Events / Pasuma Set To Perform At The Redeemed Christian Church Lagos - PHOTO OF HANDBILL by mrfree(m): 11:57am On Aug 28, 2015
Top Fuji singer, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma is the surprise special guest artiste at a three-day outdoor crusade organized by The Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 20.

The singer will mount the stage at the event scheduled for October 23 to 25 at the notorious Lagos Island neighbourhood of Martins Street around Oluwole Car Park, Lagos.

Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi is another guest artiste scheduled to perform at the three-day outdoor event.

A source revealed that the invitation of the Fuji singer is a strategy to lead the souls of area boys and touts in the notorious neighbourhood to Christ.

Conservative Christians may frown at the invitation of what they may term as a secular musician to perform on a church alter.

Some months ago, a hot debate ensued on social media when Mavin Records act, Korede Bello was invited to sing at Harvesters International Christian Church, Gbagada, Lagos.

Politics / Increase In Power Generation. True Or False? by mrfree(m): 12:01pm On Aug 20, 2015
When Abacha died in 1998, Nigeria’s power generation was about 4,000MW. Sixteen years after Abacha’s death and after the PDP governments spending over $16billion, by the time Buhari took over, the country’s power generation capacity was less than the 4,000MW. About 1,600MW by May 29 if i try to be precise. That has been the extent of the rot in this important sector.
Today, less than 100 days since Buhari’s inauguration, we are all seeing an improvement in the supply of electricity to our homes, offices and factories. Over 4,600MW was recorded last weekend as a record high for generation. The other day last week, I got a call from a relative who told me that there was no power outage in the past 72 hours in his compound. Buhari did not spend one kobo in this sector. It is just because those in charge know that it is not business as usual anymore. Everyone is suddenly ready to do the right thing. Those who were used to cutting corners in this sector know that if they don’t stop, the law will catch up with them and they do not have anyone to bribe to let them off the hook anymore.

Politics / Re: Buhari vs AIT: The Shameless Act Against Press Freedom. by mrfree(m): 7:39am On Apr 28, 2015
major466:
Pls bear with me if you find my writeup a bit disorganized. My tablet is yet to arive so am using a small phone to write this piece to express maself about recent development. Thanks for understanding.

I was thrown into a deep shock when i read in the news that President elect, M. Buhari bared media house AIT from covering his activities. Though i wasnt surprised by his action, i was surprise because he's already showing the true nature we knew he was even before swearing in. What sort of democrat bar a media house from covering public activities? Does he think the office of President is he's private property? Who does he think he is? A king? Does he know the meaning of a public servant? Maybe not. Why he's semi illitrate, if not he would have understood that in democracy, the office of the president is not only accountable to the people but also to the Press. That is why freedom of the Press is one of the shining lights of democracy as a form of govenment.

This singular act by Buhari to bar a media organization from covering his activities as president elect just comfirm that he's still the same old dictator that he was 32 years ago. A liar who lied to the world in Chatam house that he was a democrat, banning a media house from covering his activities because of a documentary? Very childish and imature indeed! Does he know what democracy is all about? If he feels pained by a documentary then he has no business in politics.

I remember vividly during the US presidential campaign of 2008 when Fox News network castigated Obama to a point of no return. They made fun of him, ridicule him, called him monkey, fueled his birth certificate issues to the extend that almost got most Americans asking questions about his true country of birth. In the end he had to surrender his birth certificate to the press (unlike Buhari and his school certificate mess). It was a scandal. Plus the many other systematic attacks against his candidacy. Fox news people are racist. Those of you who watched that channel during and after the Presidential campaigns will know what am talking about. But ever since Barack Obama won the Presidency of the United States, not ones did Obama vent out his anger to revenge against fox news. Why? Because he understood the principles of democracy. As a private individual no media house will bother you. But as soon as you become a politician, the eyes of the press makes a microscopic look at your personality. The media will not only scrutinize your past but will also go way back in time to study your childhood background. Any shocking revelation will be brought to the public front. That is the way it is in democracy especially in advance societies like USA. Even our dear GEJ was not speared from the hard scrutinizing lens of the press, sometimes personal and insulting attacks against him. Did he ever vent out his anger by baring them from covering his activities? No. Why? Because he like Obama understood the principles of Democracy. He understood that press freedom is paramount in democracy. Thats why Nigerians of all ages can express themselves freely without fear of being arrested. This is the beauty of Democracy and freedom. For Buhari to lower himself like a child who got his azz kicked by his cousin to trample upon Freedom of Press shows that he's nothing but thesame old dictator in civilian clothes.
Just like someone said, like OBJ like Buhari. Both dictators in civilian clothing.

BTW, I hear many Buhari followers giving excuses that he has the right to bar AIT citing privacy as reasons. Sure i completely agree that every individual on the planet deserves the right to privacy. That ofcouse is a fundamental human right. But they however failed to note that as soon as an individual becomes a public official in the position of a President elect, privacy becomes a secondary issue. Infact privacy is not an excuss to bar a media organization from performing its function by investigating Buhari's activites as president elect.

Rubbish!!!

After all AIT did to tarnish his image, If Na you wetin you go do? you go do pass that one

Politics / Nigerian Newspapers: 10 Things You Need To Know This Thursday Morning by mrfree(m): 10:28am On Apr 09, 2015
By Ali Adoyi

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. Despite attempts by the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy to stop the House of Assembly from impeaching them, the Federal High Court which they filed their application of an interim order has refused to grant their application and has only asked the respondents in the suit to appear in court on April 16.

2. Electricity distribution companies have been given the directive to fix their own tariffs based on the operational cost in their various locations. The tariffs will however be subject to NERC’s approval.

3. Politicians in Rivers State have been warned by the Security Chiefs in the state to avoid any form of violence. It was warned that what happened during the Presidential elections will not be tolerated during the governorship and House of Assembly elections. Personal aides to politicians were equally withdrawn ahead of the elections.

4. For the first time since her husband lost the March 28 Presidential election, Mrs Jonathan made a public appearance at Okrika, her home town on Wednesday to thank the people for their support during the presidential election.

5.The DSS has revealed that it is investigating the alleged threat on the lives of Ndigbo in Lagos by Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu. Speaking on behalf of the Service in Abuja, its Spokesperson, Marylyn Ogar said the matter was being handled very well. She however did not provide further details.

6. The IG of Police, Suleiman Abba has asked all Policemen attached to politicians to stay away from polling units in the coming governorship elections. He said any police escort seen at polling centres apart from those assigned to polling units will be arrested.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the alleged indifference shown by the president-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on burning national issues. The party through its Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said Gen. Buhari has failed to emulate the peaceful action of Pres. Jonathan, as he goes around the country preaching disunity with his team.

8. Though details on his death still remain sketchy, available report says the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Oronto Douglas is dead.

9. Igbo groups in Lagos (Ohanaeze-Ndigbo and Igbo Justice Congress) have dragged the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu before the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, over the death threat allegedly issued against them by the Oba.

10. The immediate past political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan and initiator of the GEJ campaign organisation has surprisingly dumped the PDP for the APC. Gulak and others left PDP on Wednesday (yesterday)

Thanks for Reading and have a Nice Day.

Politics / 31 Things That President Goodluck Jonathan Has Achieved So Far by mrfree(m): 11:06am On Feb 17, 2015
Great presidents are made great by horrible circumstances combined with character, temperament and intelligence. Like firemen, cops, doctors or soldiers, presidents need a crisis to shine

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan took the oath of office on 29 May, 2011 amidst thunderous expectations of a new dawn, given the mountain of problems that characterized the nation.

Jonathan is one of the most intelligent presidents to ever step forward in Nigeria’s history the second fully fit university graduate. The likes of his intellectual capabilities have not been surpassed in public life since the Founding Fathers put pen to paper. His personal character is also solid gold. Take heart, Nigeria: we have the leader for our times.

I say this as a Pan Africanist who believes totally in One Nigeria, former life-long siddon look Nigerian. I say this as a proud Nigerian . I speak as someone who knows it’s time to forget tribal loyalty, party loyalty, ideology and pride and put the country first.

Jonathan is our last best chance. He’s worth laying it all on the line for.

Where many leaders are two-faced; publicly kindly but privately feared and/or hated by people closest to them, Jonathan is consistent in the way he treats people, consistently kind and personally humble. He lives by the code that those who lead must serve. He believes that. He lives it. He lived it long before he was in the public eye.

Jonathan puts service ahead of ideology. He also knows that to succeed politically you need to be tough. He can be. He has been (Okerenkoko and Gbaramatu). This is a man who does what works, rather than scoring ideological points. In other words he is the quintessential non-ideological pragmatic Nigerian. He will (thank God!) disappoint ideologues and purists of the left and the right.

Jonathan has a reservoir of personal physical courage that is unmatched in our presidential history. Why unmatched? Because as the first monority contender for the presidency who has won, Jonathan, and all the rest of us, know that he is in great physical danger from the seemingly unlimited reserve of unhinged tribal hatred, and just plain unhinged ignorant hatred, that swirls in the bowels of our wounded and sinful country. By stepping forward to lead, Jonathan has literally put his life on the line for all of us in a way no other Nigerian ever has had to do. (And we all know how dangerous the presidency has been)

The greater point about Jonathan is that the midst of our worldwide financial meltdown, an expanding Boko Haram ,Niger Delta Militancy,Piracy,Kidnappings,Armed Robberies,Bribery and corruption etc, watching our educational levels decline to unbelievable levels of incompetence, facing a general loss of confidence in the government that has been exacerbated by the opposition doing all they can to undermine our government’s capabilities and programs… President Jonathan has taken on the leadership of our country at a make or break time of historic proportions. He faces not one but dozens of crisis, each big enough to define any presidency in better times.

As luck, fate or divine grace would have it (depending on one’s personal theology) Jonathan is blessedly, dare I say uniquely, well-suited to our dire circumstances. Jonathan is a person with hands-on experience, deep connections to top advisers from the renowned Universites in Nigeria being a former university lecturer , and a middle-class background that gives him an abiding knowledgeable empathy with the rest of us. As the son of poor parents, who has worked his way up with merit and brains, in three giant political steps to state office, national office and now the presidency, Jonathan clearly has the wit and drive to lead.

Jonathan is the sober voice of reason at a time of unreason. He is the fellow keeping his head while all around him are panicking. He is the healing presence at a time of national division and strife. He is also new enough to the political process so that he doesn’t suffer from the terminally jaded cynicism, the seen-it-all-before syndrome afflicting most politicians in Nigeria. In that regard we Nigerians lucked out. It’s as if having despaired of our political process we picked a name from the phone book to lead us and that person turned out to be a very man we needed.

Jonathan brings a healing and uplifting spiritual quality to our politics at the very time when our worst enemy is fear. Fearless Jonathan is the cure. He speaks a litany of hope rather than a litany of terror.

As we have watched Jonathan respond in a quiet reasoned manner to crisis after crisis, in both the way he has responded after being attacked and lied about , to his reasoned response to our multiplying national crises, what we see is the spirit of a trusted family doctor with a great bedside manner. Jonathan is perfectly suited to hold our hand and lead us through some very tough times. The word panic is not in the Jonathan dictionary.

Jonathan brings a moral clarity to his leadership reserved for those who have had to work for everything they’ve gotten and had to do twice as well as the person standing next to them because of the region they come from . His experience of succeeding in spite of his social background could have been embittering or one that fostered a spiritual rebirth of forgiveness and enlightenment. Jonathan radiates the calm inner peace of the spirit of forgiveness.

Speaking as a believing Nigerian I see the hand of a merciful God in Jonathans Presidency. The biblical metaphors abound. The stone the builder rejected is become the cornerstone… the last shall be first… he that would gain his life must first lose it… the meek shall inherit the earth…

For my secular friends I’ll allow that we may have just been extraordinarily lucky! Either way Nigeria wins.

Only a brilliant man, with the spirit of a preacher and the humble heart of a kindly family doctor can lead us now. We are afraid, out of ideas, and worst of all out of hope. Jonathan is the cure. And we Nigerian’s have it in us to rise to the occasion. We will. We’re in one of the most frightening periods of Nigerian history. Our country has rarely faced more uncertainty. This is the time for greatness. We have a great leader. We must be a great people backing him, fighting for him, sacrificing for a cause greater than ourselves.

A hundred years from now Jonathan’s portrait will be placed next to that of Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe,King Jaja Of Opobo,Ahmadu Bello and Nana Of Itsekiri etc. Long before that we’ll be telling our children and grandchildren that we stepped out in faith and supported a man who stood up and led our country back from the brink of an abyss. We’ll tell them about the power of love, faith and hope. We’ll tell them about the power of creativity combined with humility and intellectual brilliance. We’ll tell them that President Jonathan gave us the gift of regaining our faith in our country. We’ll tell them that we all stood up and pitched in and won the day. We’ll tell them that President Jonathan restored our standing in the world. We’ll tell them that by the time he left office our schools were on the mend, our economy booming. We’ll tell them that because of President Jonathan’s example and leadership the integrity of the family was restored, divorce rates went down, more fathers took responsibility for their children, and abortion rates fell dramatically as women, families and children were cared for through compassionate social programs that worked. We’ll tell them about how the gap closed between the middle class and the super rich, how we won health care for all, how crime rates fell, how kidnappings, militancy and terrorism were brought to an honourable conclusion.

We’ll tell them that we were part of the inexplicably blessed miracle that happened to our country those many years ago in 2011 when an Ijaw man was sent by God, fate or luck to save our country. We’ll tell them that it’s good to live in Nigeria where anything is possible.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been recording unique achievements.

1. President Goodluck Jonathan became the first Nigerian President to be WARNED PUBLICLY not to contest for elections on account of ethno-regional selfish interest, AND PROMISED MAYHEM and GRIDLOCK if he does.

2. First President to experience over 50 UNWARRANTED, UNPRECEDENTED BOMBINGS of CHURCHES, PRIMARY SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES, DRINKING PARLOURS, MATCH VIEWING CENTERS in less than 365 days after his swearing-in.

Politics / Why Nigerian Police Officers Are Are Excited About 2015 General Elections. by mrfree(m): 4:58pm On Feb 13, 2015
As the 2015 general elections approaches the Nigerian Police Officers are seriously preparing to enhance safety during the exercise and Police officers are praying so that the elections will not be postponed for the second time.

The monetary part (eguje) is not also left out but I wish they will not make money during the elections (I mean, not taking Bribe or Egunje), what do you think?

Politics / 6 Things That Are Very Likely To Happen Before March 28 Elections by mrfree(m): 3:41pm On Feb 13, 2015
Conspiracy theories are often baseless and almost certainly nonsense. But at this point where all kinds of reports are flying around and nobody’s sure what’s coming up, people are really taking some of these theories seriously.

One of the theories that was in the media before the election was postponed last week was that the government was plotting to postpone the election. And the election was eventually postponed. So it looks like the conspiracy theories aren’t so ludicrous after all if you look at the current political situation.

On that note Adedayo Ademagun, Naij correspondent and contributor on political issues, discusses five things that might happen before March 28 based on the conspiracy theories spreading right now.

1. The election will be shifted again.

INEC said it postponed the elections to avert potential insecurity, but most people think this is a ploy by the president and his team to buy themselves some more time so they can work out some strategy.

Now some people suspect the election will be shifted again because there’s been no clear assurance that the security people won’t push for another extension.

So are we going to have another extension to give the army and its foreign allies some more time to fight the insurgency in the northeast? That’s the next statement some people are expecting from the government or Jega.

2. An interim government will be set up.

There were reports online recently that the president will hand over to an interim government led by Chief of Army staff, Kenneth Minimah, if Buhari wins the coming election. The reports say the interim will govern for six months and then fresh elections will be held. The army denied this of course, but some people still think it might happen.

3. Jega will be fired.

Newspapers are saying there’s an ongoing plot to sack Jega or force him to a terminal leave. His tenure ends in June, but word in the media is that there are plans to remove him before March 28. One or two people have even been tipped to replace him. The theory is the government wants to remove him for the way he’s managed the election process so far and the way he presented the postponement, which seemed to lay the blame on the government’s table.

Femi lives in Lagos. He says, “One thing that’s clear is that Jega has compromised his reputation. He’s not as credible as he was five years ago when he first took the job. But even if they fire him now, it’s too late. They should let him finish his tenure and then we can look for someone else. Jega has smeared his name already.”

4. The army will seize government.

Babangida set off a revolt in 1993 when he annulled the election and put Ernest Shonekan in charge of an interim government. In the midst of the crisis, Abacha overthrew Shonekan and seized the government. Some people say we might be going in that direction again.

Olusegun Obasanjo said in a recent interview, “I sincerely hope that the president is not going for broke and saying ‘look dammit, it’s either I have it or nobody has it.’ I hope we will not have a coup…I hope we can avoid it.”

5. The election will be suspended.

One senator named Babafemi Ojudu alleged recently that the president intends to extend his tenure by two years on grounds that Nigeria is at war — the war against Boko Haram.

He said, “If anybody thinks there’s going to be an election on March 28, the person is deceiving himself. There are conscious attempts at lobbying some of us to work against having elections. Therefore, where they’ve got to now is the preliminary stage.”

Section 135 of the Constitution says, “If the federation is at war in which the territory of Nigeria is physically involved and the president considers that it is not practicable to hold elections, the National Assembly may by resolution extend the period of four years [of the president’s tenure]; but no such extension shall exceed a period of six months at any one time.”

What this means technically is that the president can put off this election for the next six months with the support of the National Assembly and then put it off again for another six months and so on, as long as he continues to maintain that we’re in the middle of a war. That way, the president can put off the elections for an indefinite period, essentially suspending the elections.

Some of these theories are plausible while others are just plain ridiculous — or are they ? We’ll find out in the coming weeks and months.
