This is definitely not one of the records to be proud of. In fact, this is one of those issues that might prompt some to jettison their love for the fatherland. At a time that the dreaded disease, poliomyelitis, has been eradicated in all but three countries of the world, the disease is flourishing in some partsof Nigeria. In fact, right now, Nigeria has 94 per cent of polio cases in the entire world. The remaining six per cent is shared by Pakistan and Afghanistan. And efforts of the present Goodluck Jonathan administration to ensure the eradication of polio by end of 2015 might have suffered a major blow, as new cases are being recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and in read full story @ http://newsinnigeria..com/2012/12/nigeria-takes-lead-with-94-of-worlds.html |

President Yar’Adua is alive and still receiving treatment in the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. President Umaru Yar'Adua told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, in a telephone interview, his first since he was admitted in to the hospital in November said he is recovering. President Yar’Adua said he hope to make a “tremendous progress" and return home to resume his duties. There were newspapers and online reports that the Nigerian president died days ago. There have been speculations that the ailing president has passed on. His long absence and speculation over his health has led to calls for him to hand over power to his vice-president. Doctors said in December that President Yar'Adua was suffering from acute pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining of the heart. He is also known to have kidney problems. The Country had been awash with the news of the president's death following a report to that effect published on the online edition of one American Chronicle, with concerned Nigerians making enquiries as to its veracity. Many local newspapers have published different stories about the state of the President's health. Also a local newspaper had last Sunday reported that the President who left the country on November 23 to seek treatment in Saudi Arabia for an ailment medically called acute pericarditis was brain-damaged and not recognizing anyone, including his wife, Turai. Even as the news about President Yar'Adua's death was all over the country since yesterday, the Presidential villa has been calm with no one, including the Vice President, his key aides as well as some ministers betraying any form of anxiety. A further investigation into the matter has shown that only American Chronicle had this news article and the story in question has been pulled out from the site. President Yar'Adua's silence until now and the fact he did not appoint Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to serve in his absence has led to fears of a constitutional crisis. The senate will on Tuesday January 12th take a decision on the continuous absence of the READ MORE AT: http://www.newsinnigeria..com |

As the National Assembly resumes on Tuesday January 12, 2010 after the Christmas and New Year break, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka will be leading a protest rally same day in Abuja to force the National Assembly to resolve the problem of vacuum created by the absence of President Umaru Yar’Adua since November 23, 2009 for medical reasons. Soyinka, Bakare, Ojukwu, Buhari And others The protests, which are called by the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), will also hold in London, where the Metropolitan Police have agreed to shift the date to Friday in a meeting with the Nigeria Liberty Forum (NLF) because of expectation that Nigerians in London will turn out en masse. Speakers expected at the Abuja rally include Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Pat Utomi, Uche Onyeagocha, Kayode Ajulo, Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana, Najatu Mohammed, Yinka Odumakin, Sani Uba, among others. In an interview with pressmen, Balarabe Musa, Chairman, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), said the present situation would have been avoided if Yar’Adua had handed over to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. If that was done, he said, Nigerians would not have bothered because there would be no vacuum in the presidency. On the unconfirmed reports that Yar’Adua’s brain is damaged, Musa said in the present situation, every rumour is possible and every rumour is justified because the government has failed to supply Nigerians with information concerning the President’s health. He said if the president is in coma and therefore cannot make Jonathan acting president, the best thing to do is READ MORE AT: http://www.newsinnigeria..com |

Reports reaching us mention that 42 bodies were seen on the floor of the morgue in the city of Bauchi, all with bullet or machete wounds. Another 25 bodies, mostly young people including minors, had been placed in cold storage rooms.
