Politics / Re: Suswam Present 8 SUV To Ortom, Benue Governor Elect by munasami: 11:40pm On Apr 23, 2015
Please dont tell me Ortom collected them, 'cos if he does, then he is also going to loot even more than Suswam and owe salaries for more than 12 months. Benue is now the 'animal farm' yeye people, yeye govt.

kaywizee:
Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, on Thursday said he was fully in support of the Senate Minority Leader, George Akume’s bid to lead the 8th National Assembly when inaugurated in June.

Suswam reasoned that since there was nobody from the state vying for the position, he was supporting Akume, his predecessor as state governor, to emerge victorious.

He stated this at the State House, Makurdi, on Thursday, while donating eight brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to the Governor-Elect, Chief Samuel Ortom; his wife; the Deputy Governor-Elect, Benson Abounu, and his wife, as part of the peaceful transition arrangement.

He said, “My way of playing politics is all encompassing and I am fully in support of Akume to emerge as the Senate President for the 8th Assembly since he is the only person from Benue vying for that position, which we understand has been zoned to the North Central.”

The governor called on the media to continue to encourage peace and issue-based understanding among different political parties in the country.

He urged media practitioners to extend the same support and cooperation the Peoples Democratic Party enjoyed to the All Progressives Congress in the interest of peaceful existence of Nigeria.

He said, “I want you people (the media) to extend the same support and cooperation our government enjoyed to the incoming administration of APC in the interest of the nation"

What of Nokia 3310? I still remember it was used 10years ago.
That was the common phone ke!.
runzlord:
Ask teens these days what phones people used just 10 years ago, and you might find the answers are far from reality. Indeed, there’s been a profound change in technology, a gigantic leap forward that has completely overhauled the mobile phone land
In this article, we go back 10 years in time to 2005, the dark ages of phones. No, not even smartphones: there were none of those (by today's definition with a fully developed app store and an ecosystem), instead people talked about PDAs and communicators. Hilarious from the point of view of today, isn't it?

Clamshell phones? You rarely see them today, but they were all the rage back in 2005. Push-to-talk? Revolutionary 10 years ago. 4G LTE? Forget about it, people were happy if they had connectivity to the Internet at all, and have EDGE was considered great (3G was a luxury).

So what were the hot phones in 2005? Let’s waste no time and go back in history.

Motorola Moto RAZR V3 (Matte Black)
The Moto Razr took the phone world by surprise in 2004 when the V3 version was selling like hotcakes, and in 2005, Motorola followed up on the success with a matte black edition of the likable thin clamshell phone. Tiny screen, all buttons, no real smarts, but sleek and good looking.

Sony Ericsson K750
The Sony Ericsson K750 was a little wonder in 2005 that hinted for a great future for camera phones. What was the excitement all about? A 2-megapixel camera! Don’t laugh, it was all the rage, spurring a bunch of camera comparisons, tests, and thoughts whether the days of point-and-shoots are numbered. We all know how that turned out, don’t we?

Nokia N70
Call it a communicator, call it a PDA, the Nokia N70 was the great-great-great grandfather of the modern smartphone. Boy did it have a huge (2.1 inches!) display, running the super advanced Series 60 UI on a whopping 220MHz TI OMAP 1710 system chip. Don’t ask how many cores were in it.

BlackBerry 7100
2005 was right in the midst of the golden age for BlackBerry. Everyone was on the Crackberry, and despite this little 7100 series wonder having merely 65K colors (less than the 256K others flagship of the time sported), its advanced BlackBerry OS with support for email was the real hit.

Nokia 8800
A stainless steel piece of beauty that draws inspiration from the very successful slide-phones of days past 2005, the Nokia 8800 features a 1.7” display and an SVGA camera. Its color display also sports 256K colors, plenty for the time, but a far cry from today’s 16 million standard on phones.

Motorola Q8
Motorola was also playing in the game of communicators/PDAs, and the Q8 was its most advanced model for the time with a 5-way navigation button and a full physical QWERTY keyboard that business users could not live without. The star of the show, however, was the advanced Windows Mobile version 6.0.

Nokia 1100
Finally, the Nokia 1100 might not have been among the most advanced phones of the time, but when people were conisdered priviliged to even have a cell phone, the 1100 was a blessing. As such, it was the best selling phone of the year with sales of 150 million units, far above all other technological wonders of 2005.

Sports / Re: Emmanuel Emenike Performs Ritual To Lift Curse by munasami: 4:00pm On Feb 03, 2015
Emmysteve:
Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike underwent a Turkish spiritual cleansing ritual to lift a curse that he believes has been placed on him.

Emenike is reported to have complained that his energy is out of sync after being cursed in Nigeria and that it has had a detrimental effect on his performances on the field.

“My energy is not right, something is wrong, I just need a goal to get back to form,” Emenike was quoted as saying by Milliyet.

The 27-year-old striker underwent a ritual called ‘Kur_un Dökme’ which is carried out when it is believed that an evil eye is upon you. The evil eye is the name for a curse or sickness transmitted by someone who is envious, jealous or wishes harm on someone.

The evil eye belief is that a person can harm you and your property by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware.

Age is catching up on him. He should be 40plus

There are a number of precautions that can be taken to prevent evil eye. The blue Nazar Boncuk popular across Turkey is an amulet believed to protect against the evil eye. The practice of using a crystal blue eye dates back to Central Asia, during the ages of the shamanic Tengrism era.

If it believed that you have been cursed by evil eye one method that can be used to rid oneself on the effects of it is a ritual called ‘Kur_un Dökme’.

The ritual involves a kur_uncu (the person taking the nazar off you) who heats up the kur_un (lead) over the stove. The kur_uncu then sits you down, covers you up with a blanket, and pours the lead in a bowl of water, causing the water to splatter and the lead to take various shapes and forms.

The process is believed to get rid of negative energy and lift the curse.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Already Frustrated With My New Job by munasami: 12:47am On Nov 08, 2014
Hhmmmm, but in the first place, you should have asked what they intend employing you as. Secondly, you are in, and seems your pay is less what you earn in your previous place. Just consider yourself a job seeker while you carry the cross in the mean time. And ensure be agressive in applying to other places for jobs with clearly stated description. Above all, frequently pray to God to lead you out of the place. It is well with you.

dvdon:
Please my people of nairaland, I need your advice on what step to take on this situation.

Please no insults, I just need an advice.
I am an engineer by profession, I worked as a consultant in a company some years back until I got this present job. Truth be told I was happy when I was called for an interview in a much bigger company where I presumed I will make a career. First I remember I submitted my CV to a friend who promised to hook me up with a better job, and sometime this year he called to advice I study for a test but refused to tell me the company n type of test I should prepare for. To cut off the long story, sometime last month, I was called in for an interview for the proposed job, I was elated and took an undermined risk of travelling for the interview. On reaching the office the next day, I was impressed at the company and the level of organisation in the company. I was interviewed, I performed and I was told that I will be briefed when I resume. Waow I already got the job which was what I told myself because of the way I saw how impressed the interviewers looked. Finally I got the job with an offer of below a hundred and forty thousand as gross salary, I later realized that I was employed as an office assistant, me an engineer a formal manager and to grease the elbow, it was stated in my offer letter and I was to serve a dozen of young engineers in my office. I resumed with total equality but realised that I was way below the food chain and the young stars didn't waste time to clear me on that. One of them yesterday even told me I would help him make some deposit at d bank and all that, and even went on to say that it was part of my job description. Now I know I don't have to envy which is non of my business, it's already 14 days into the job and I feel my dignity has been tramped and I may not have a quick rise here. Let me halt here but will share more ordeal I have passed through in this few days if you care.

Please I just need to know what you people think and what you have to advice either for me to get out of this situation or another.

Religion / Re: FG not doing enough to prevent anarchy -Catholic bishops by munasami: 8:54am On Sep 20, 2014
Danmas: The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has said the Federal Government has not done enough to stop the rising insecurity and the unending killings in the country.
The Bishops, which issued a statement during their Second Annual Plenary in Warri, Delta State, said the meeting has daily been inundated with “first-hand and horrifying reports reaching from Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano and Kaduna states about the mass slaughter of fellow Nigerians; the burning and sacking of whole villages and churches and rectories.”
In the statement titled ‘While Nigeria bleeds and burns’, the CBCN lamented the precarious situation in the North-East, where it lamented that reports “only confirm further killings, burnings and fleeing of defenseless Nigerians creating a heightened sense of unrest and siege to the whole nation.”
Signed by the President, CBCN, Most Revd Ignatius Kaigama, and Secretary, Most Revd William Avenya, the conference called on the all tiers of government to do more than they were doing to preserve unity of the nation.
CBCN said, “In the face of this Boko Haram group and other criminal militias arming themselves beyond our legitimate government and brazenly killing innocent, defenseless citizens, our government must do more than it is currently doing to safeguard our lives and defend our nation.
“It must do more than it is currently doing to fight off and disarm these actual destroyers of Nigerians and Nigeria. It must do more than it is currently doing to prevent segments of our nation from drifting, anarchy and mutual self-destruction and bring criminals to justice.”
The Bishops warned that what should be uppermost in the programme of government should not be the fight for positions in the 2015 elections but how to guarantee the lives of Nigerians.
The clerics added, “We warn every Nigerian community at local and state levels to be alert to the grave danger facing all of us and our nation from within and from without.
“The issue is not about who becomes president or governor or senator after the 2015 general elections. The issue is about the life and security of every one of us who loves his or her life and really cares about our living together in peace as noble Nigerians.
“We urge therefore that we all support and encourage every positive effort by the current government to protect every Nigerian and defend the integrity and unity of Nigeria. Let us equally take lawful measures locally to prevent the destruction of fellow Nigerians and to ward off Nigeria’s destroyers.”
