President of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump, has told President Muhammau Buhari that his country will not accept the killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Trump made this clear while playing host to Buhari at the White House on Monday.

“We have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria, we are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen,” Trump said.

Buhari promised that his administration was working hard to address the menace, especially in the North West of the country.

Barcelona midfielder, Andres Iniesta, has confirmed his departure from Spanish club, Barcelona at the end of the current season.

Speaking during a farewell press conference on Friday, the 33-year-old, reaffirmed the fact that he won’t play in Europe.

The Barcelona legend, however, did not reveal where he will play next season.

The House of Representatives has resolved to temporarily back down on the move to commence impeachment proceedings against President Muhammadu Buhari.

SOURCE recalls that some of the lawmakers had earlier called for the impeachment of the president for approving the release of $496 million for the purchase of some fighter jets without consulting the national assembly.

At plenary on Thursday, the lawmakers reached a compromise and decided that rather than initiating impeachment proceedings against the president, the Committee on Rules and Business should look for a way to resolve the matter.


At first, the house was divided along party lines, as most members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the spending was illegal and unconstitutional.


A letter from Buhari seeking the approval of the lawmakers to the expenditure after it had been made was introduced on Thursday.

Muhammed Monguno from Borno State then moved a motion entitled: ‘Request to include the sum of US$496 in the 2018 Appropriation Bill for the purchase of Super Tucano Aircraft from the US government’.

Monguno urged the house to include the money in the 2018 budget as “the president’s anticipatory approval was granted based on the critical importance of the aircraft to national security”.
The motion was immediately countered by Nicholas Ossai, a PDP lawmaker from Delta State. Raising a point of order, Ossai argued that the request ought to come in form of a bill, not a motion.

Supporting Ossai’s claim, Lovett Idisi, another PDP lawmaker from Delta, said: “What we are being asked is to indict the house, if there is an illegal process, we can not correct it with illegality. This process goes against everything we stand for.”

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has denied media report that it introduced Sharia practices in the administration of the FCT orientation camp.

This was made known via a statement issued by the scheme’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Aderemi Adenike, on Wednesday.


According to her, it was necessary to swiftly dismiss the reports by a national daily, which claimed that the newly-appointed FCT Coordinator, Mallam Bello Balama, introduced Sharia practice in the camp because he said that “it is sinful for him as Muslim to head a camp where alcohol is sold.”

She maintained that the report was false, adding that the scheme runs a prototype policy in all NYSC orientation camps nationwide.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Management of National Youth Service Corps has been drawn to a publication of the Authority Newspaper of Tuesday, 24th April, 2018 captioned, ‘NYSC Introduces Sharia in FCT Camp’.

“The writer in the publication claimed that the NYSC scheme in FCT camp Kubwa has introduced Sharia practices including the banning of sales of alcoholic drinks and non-socialization of male and female corps members.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday inaugurated the Party’s screening and appeal committees for aspirants contesting the May 5 primary election to elect the Party’s flagbearer for the 2018 Ekiti governorship election.

The Party’s National Organising Secretary, Sen. Osita Izunaso, who inaugurated the committees, said the screenings were mandatory for all aspirants.


He charged the committee members to continue in the APC’s tradition of adhering to due process and ensure fairness during the exercise.

Izunaso said the committees would rely on the Party’s 2014 guidelines for the nomination of candidates for public office, the Party’s constitution and the 1999 Nigerian constitution (as amended) in carrying out the assignment.

He disclosed that 33 aspirants picked expression of interest and nomination forms, the highest recorded by the Party.

Members of the screening committee are: Former governor of Bayelsa State, H.E. Timipre Sylva (Chairman); Barr. Denton Ogbuehi (Secretary); Samaila Hassan Yusuf (member); Hajia Amina Gamawa (member); Ayo Afolabi (member); Hon. Bilyamin Shinkafi (member) and Barr. Mohammed Mustapha (member).

A Liverpool fan was taken to hospital for treatment after being attacked by a group of Roma supporters outside Anfield.
The Champions League clash between Liverpool and Roma ended 5-2 in favour of the home side.

A group of hooded supporters isolated the Liverpool fan and he was left needing treatment on the road outside of the stadium.

BBC captured a group of approximately 20 supporters standing yards away from one fan, who was receiving treatment on the floor.

The supporters appeared to be holding belts and charged at another fan in ugly scenes on Merseyside.

ITV correspondent Gabriel Clarke uploaded a video on Twitter that showed a group of Roma fans charging down Anfield road.

There was a large police presence outside Anfield before the game on Tuesday night.

SOURCE learnt on Tuesday that the Senate of the University ratified the withdrawal at its meeting where results of graduating and non-graduating students were considered and approved.

It was gathered that majority of those asked to leave the university were those in 100 level, who were admitted into the university without writing the Post-UTME screening examinations.

The institution, it was also learnt admitted a total of 3,483 for the 2016/2017 session when there was opposition to the conduct of post-UTME screening.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Adeyinka Aderinto, who confirmed the development in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Ibadan, stated that the university would continue to uphold its standards despite dwindling funding to the university.

He, however, asked parents of the expelled students to ensure that they would not lie and continue to extort money in the name of being students of the University.

Aderinto said that the conduct of UI Model of Post-UTME screening has helped to separate ‘men from boys’ and helped the institution in maintaining its historical standard as a global brand.

He said, “The University is determined to uphold standards. We are saying that being admitted to the University of Ibadan is a rarely privilege that require students to be up and doing in their studies.

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Thursday said 21 out of the 42 political parties existing in Ekiti State are qualified to participate in the July 14 governorship poll.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced special promotions for 45 officers who participated in the successful arrest of notorious kidnap kingpin, Evans.

The development came barely a year after Evans was arrested in Lagos alongside over 20 suspected members of his gang.

A statement by Ikechukwu Ani, a spokesperson for the PSC, said the promotions were ratified today at a plenary presided over by Mike Okiro, chairman of the commission. Thirteen of the officers were promoted in acting capacity because they weren’t eligible for substantive promotion, the PSC said.
