What difference does it make? Sure it shows lots of Nigerians are book-smart. We might have the mightiest of degrees in the world, but we can't fix Nigeria.  We need more leaders.  More big name Nigerians, more voices of authority(non-politicians), those who immerse their efforts into adressing the problems we're facing in Nigeria.  I'll take 1% of those people over the 35% phd holders we have residing in houston or whatever.
Politics / Re: What Do You Think Is The Main Problem In Nigeria, And How Can It Be Tackled. by MyTempID: 6:40am On May 26, 2008
There isn't a 'main' problem in Nigeria, there are, however, problems that should be of concern to every Nigerian (at home or abroad).  The problems will not subside until efforts are made to minimize the power of the government of Nigeria over the people. Change tends to occur over time, not instantaneously.

One might think our problem is poverty, but our problem is also corruption and religious warfare, wife abuse and child abuse, inadequate health care systems, malfunctioning board of education, accident-prone roads, etc.

When you solved that equation for x, you pretty much found the critical values of the function. In short, you needed to test your solutions to see which ones are valid for x >0 or x < 0.

The solution you posted above is by no means Q.E.D my friend, please rethink your solution, or at least your presentation of it.
TempleID: The above statement insults my little mathematical acumen! I tried rethinking and resolvine and got the solution to the LHS as still x = 2.2638 or 0.73634 . If we substitute into the problem we have:

(x-2.2638)(x-0.73634)<0

N/D. All terms in the question is reduced by 5
I stop there in order not to repear myselfe. Could you please profer solution or atleast an hint to the solution?

Thank you.
Oh! Don't get me wrong, it's not a calculatory error.  The error is just in your presentation of the answers.
You posted x<2.26 and x <0.736

The solution is {x| 0.736 <x<2.264)

Solve:

f(x) = (x-1) / (x2-1)
find f(1)
chiogo,
f(x) = (x-1) / (x2-1) = (x-1)/(x+1)(x-1) = 1/(x+1)
f(1) = 1/(1+1) = 1/2

In fact an expression of the form 0 / 0 is said to be indeterminate. 0 / 0 is != 0.

simplify the following expressions:

a. a2/b1/3 . b/a1/2

Ps: (.) means product

b.81-1/4
Solution:

a:
a2/a1/2 =a3/2
b/b1/3 = b2/3

multiplying the two, you get: a3/2 .b2/3

b:
81-1/4 = 1/811/4 = 1/3

Two down, two to go.  The circus surrounding the lakers comeback in game one was 'krazy' I tell you.  Aww, the spurs. The apocalypse of squandering a 20-point lead, especially late in the third quarter.  Almost everybody and their grandmother was digging up excuses to defend the Duncan brigades -- oh they were tired, the plane ride was exhausting, they had to sleep on the plane, they had little energy.  What nonsense! There was no denying the lakers.  Derek Fisher, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and the rest of the mamba-mafia, including the mamba himself sucked out the limited juice of life left in the spurs in game two.  Following the classic comeback that was game 1, the lakers managed to juggle up an encore.  This time, not even the most ardent Spurs fan could down play the most emphatic of all victories.  The lakers owned game two.  The bells of victory rang  heavily through the city of Los-Angeles.  They can feel it running through their veins.  This is what they have played for all year long. . . a chance, just a chance to stamp their names among the game's greatest, a chance for Kobe8 the great to solidify his legacy as an icon, a legend, a force on par with Michael Jordan.  This team of spartans is on a mission, and right now there's a tiny obstacle in the way.  A tiny obstacle stands in the way and we must destroy it.  We can smell the roses of triumph! Victory! We march on in our quest to become NBA Champions 2008! Go Lakers, go go go go go!!!

Dear Friends,
Please, help solve this maths for me:

1. Show that (1 + sin x )(1 + secant x) = Tan x
(1 + cosine x)(1 + cosecant x)

(please, note: it is numerators (1 + sin x)(1 + secant x) over denominators 1 + cosine x) (1 + cosecant x) = Tan x)

2. Express the following angles in degrees
(i) 370 (ii) -430 10' (i.e. 10' is 10 seconds)

3. Express the following angle sin radiant
(i) 21 radiant (ii) п radiant (i.e. pie over 12)
12

Please, give details so I can learn, if possible send to my email: challomkindy@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks.

I think you meant

2. Express the following angles in radians
(i) 370 (ii) -430 10' (i.e. 10' is 10 seconds)

3. Express the following angles in degrees
(i) 21 radiant (ii) п radiant (i.e. pie over 12)

I'll provide solutions soon enough.

where they await the winner of the match-up between the spurs and hornets. i can't wait to see if the hornets will supercede the expectation i have of them beating the spurs in game 7.
Sports / Re: Nba Starts For Heat Haters Only by MyTempID: 4:55pm On May 15, 2008
Did you watch the same game I watched? Boozer and Williams almost caused a problem for them. I didn't even think that Jazz would defeat Lakers at home twice. They step up when they really need to and if Kobe ain't better by tomorrow, there's going to be a bigger surprise in store for us.
My observation from games 1 and 2 led me to that statement.  The jazz were either too slow, not ready, bothered by the lakers' crowd, or just not as effective down the stretch.  In the first two games I thought the lakers would sweep the jazz, but i thought wrong.  The games have been very exciting, close, and entirely unpredictable.  Although, last night, it never crossed my mind that there was a possibility of the jazz winning because the lakers kept their composure.  If I had told you yesterday that the lakers would beat the jazz and kobe wouldn't shoot in the 4th quarter, I'm sure you would have asked if I was on crack.

If Kobe's back holds up (or he gets hot), then you never know what will happen in game 6, much less game 7.

Celts do not deserve to win. Their behavior in the regular season saved them from being disgraced by ATL in the first round. Now they are constantly being hassled by LeBron and his boys. It's just pathetic for a number 1 team in any conference to get by just on home court advantage.
Celts do deserve the win.  Everything is chieftained by our thoughts.  It's funny how we forget that these are nba teams.  They are all extremely good.  The records might say otherwise, but on any given night, in any given city, the dice may roll in one direction as opposed to the more-logical other. You play the games to ensure the outcome.  Once we get into that natural mode of mind-simulated outcomes where we expect one team to win because they have x-wins and y-losses, it's hard to snap out of it.
You could also argue that it is pathetic for the media-enshrined king James to have disappeared for the first two games in the series.  Definitely, the celtics do need to win on the road somewhere down the line in the playoffs (probably against the pistions), if they want to realize their hopes of winning the championship; however, there's always the possibility that they could swim throught the playoffs by winning only at home and still win the NBA championship.
Sports / Re: Nba Starts For Heat Haters Only by MyTempID: 6:30am On May 14, 2008
I don 't think the jazz are a threat to the lake show; moderately, maybe. they play very well at home, but when they hit the road, they turn into a slightly better version of the boston celtics. I look for the lakers to do to the jazz what the hornets did to the spurs today. the lakers will win at home. if Kb24 is able to play his way through the back-pain the lakers will prevail. GL1!
