FIFA angry with Cristiano Ronaldo for snubbing The Best Awards...

FIFA is furious with Cristiano Ronaldo, over his failure to turn up at The Best awards gala in Milan on Monday night, Marca reports.



Ronaldo had been on a three-man shortlist for the award, along with Messi and Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Portugal captain was also in the running to be named in this year’s World XI.

It is understood that FIFA staff had expected Ronaldo to be present at the awards. They thought he was coming along with teammate Matthijs de Ligt as late as Monday afternoon.

The world football governing body is now disappointed with Ronaldo for the no-show, especially as he is now based in Turin, which is 150km from Milan.

It is believed that Ronaldo’s decision not to attend, pointed to him knowing that it was Messi who had won the award, although his camp claims it was purely to do with the injury.

FIFA Best Player: Samuel Eto’o snubs Messi, names two players that deserve award..

African legend, Samuel Eto’o has named Liverpool forwards, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as the two players that deserve to win the FIFA Men’s Best Player award ahead of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.



Samuel Eto’o believes Salah and Mane deserves the world top prize ahead of Messi, Ronaldo and Van Dijk after leading Liverpool to win last season’s UEFA Champions League title.

“The best one for me is Mohammed Salah or Sadio Mane,” Eto’o was quoted by Metro UK as telling reporters prior to the result when asked to pick between Messi, Ronaldo and Van Dijk.

“But they’re not here,” he added before walking away from the interview.

The Argentine captain took the top honour with 46 per cent of scoring points, with Van Dijk receiving 38 per cent and Ronaldo 36 per cent.

Speaking after receiving the award, the 32-year-old told reporters: “It has been a long time without winning an individual prize.
“It is an award that I have for the first time and it is good to have it.”

No need to apologize to Nigeria over xenophobia – Mayor of Johannesburg (video)



Mayor of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba has revealed that he feels that apologizing to Nigeria over the xenopobic attacks was unnecessary.

Speaking on CNBC Africa’s Political Capital on Tuesday September 17, the South African Mayor said he doesn’t see the xenophobic attack as an “incident” as it was bound to happen.

“No, there is nothing for me to apologise about,” Mashaba said while reacting to the letter of apology from President Cyril Ramaphosa to the Nigerian government

“What do you expect me to really apologise for?

“We are not going to turn a blind eye on such evil crime happening under our watch,” Mashaba said, adding that “the country [South Africa] also owes an official apology to the 10.2 million unemployed South Africans who are today without jobs as a result of billions of counterfeit goods being brought illegally into the country, killing local manufacturing.”

IPOB can’t attack me outside Nigeria, says Chris Ngige



Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, has said members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB cannot attack him outside Nigeria. The Minister said this while reacting to the attack members of the group meted on former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in Germany in August.

Speaking at a function in Obosi, Anambra State, Ngige stated that the recent threat issued by IPOB members to attack politicians of the South-East geopolitical zone if they were sighted anywhere outside the country, is not in anyway directed to him. According to him, he protected IPOB members and their interests when he was the governor of Anambra State.

“IPOB was registered by the late President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife and other Igbos as a non-violent group. What is going on now in the group is not part of the work plan . I visited the United States of America recently, and I was welcomed by IPOB members.

“They knew I fed and protected them when I was in office as governor. I have said it several times that Biafra cannot be achieved the IPOB way. The Igbo should stop shouting marginalisation. They should stand up and assert themselves to be counted. Nigeria belongs to all of us. Equity favours the Igbo to produce the next president of the country, but they must work hard and position themselves for it.

“We should stop political sentiments. Politicians don’t give power based on sentiment and emotion. President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is favourable to an Igbo president. We must support him and associate with the APC. Nobody will give you president of Nigeria in your bedroom.” he said

Tech company, Andela sacks 250 junior developers in Nigeria

Tech company, Andela, has sacked over 400 of its employees. 250 are from Nigeria and Uganda, with an additional 170 potentially impacted in Kenya. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Jeremy Johnson, announced this today saying the move was neccessary for restructuring of the company’s talent pool in line with global market demands.



The company said, “Today, we are announcing that we are closing the D0 program in Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. Moving forward, we will be focusing D0 training efforts on our pan-African hub in Rwanda. In addition, we will be letting go of approximately 250 Andelans in Nigeria and Uganda, with an additional 170 potentially impacted in Kenya, who we don’t believe we’ll be able to find meaningful work for over the next year”.

The tech company however revealed plans to hire an additional 700 experienced engineers by the end of 2020.

Going forward, we will hire another 700 experienced engineers by the end of 2020 in order to keep up with demand from our partners. To continue creating junior engineering talent at scale, we will invest in the Andela Learning Community, through which we’ve already trained more than 30,000 learners in software engineering fundamentals.

Over the next three years, we plan to cultivate more than 100,000 engineers across the continent who will, in time, contribute to the growth of their local tech ecosystems as well as the broader technology community.

South Africa grants landing permit to airline evacuating Nigerians



South African authorities have granted landing permit to Air Peace Flight B777 to enable it to evacuate some 320 Nigerians fleeing from xenophobia in the country. Nigeria’s Consul- General in Johannesburg, Godwin Adama, made the confirmation when he spoke against the background of a complaint by the Managing Director of Air Peace, Chief Allen Onyema.

Onyema had said that the refusal of South Africa to grant the permit made it impossible for the flight to leave Lagos at 1a.m. for Johannesburg to convey the second batch of returnees. Adama however said the permit had been granted the airline and that the flight would be late in the night of Tuesday.

Adama said, “they want Nigerians to arrive during the week, they are taking-off from here midnight. I do not know the exact time but they will be leaving (South Africa) midnight.

I do not know why they were denied the landing permit. I think it is an airline operational issue. They did not get it yesterday but they told me that it came late yesterday (Monday).



“It was weekend and they were going to get it this morning; the airline did not tell me it was deliberate, but they explained to me that they have gotten it. Our manifest arrived last night towards the close of work and they were to take-off 1a.m.

Nigerian time yesterday (Monday) but they did not because it was late. I have gotten it now so they will be able to make me know the time of their arrival here so that we can know when to take-off.”

Adama said buses provided to convey Nigerians wanting to return home were still at the mission premises and everyone was there.

“We are still really working on the number (320) to see how we can fill up the airline capacity with anyone that is readily available. We have more than enough, we are even trying to ensure that the aircraft is filled up that is why we are readily taking people who are on ground now.

“We have more than enough to fill the aircraft, the delay has also helped us because as we call names to board we see some people cleared at the last minute.

The truth is they are people who have not been cleared, those who are ready to go are all here and we are trying to queue them up. We may not even be able to take all of them who are hopeful,” he added.

Adama said that the next batch of evacuation would be based on the Federal Government’s directives.

Rare Zebra spotted in Kenya (photos)



Photos of a young Rare Zebra at the Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya has gone viral following its unique stripes which is different from the wild life’s distinctive black-and-white striped coats. Antony Tira, the renowned guide who shared photos of the young Rare Zebra named ‘Tira’ said he thought it was deliberately painted for purposes of migration.

“At first I thought it was a zebra that had been captured and painted or marked for purposes of migration. I was confused when I first saw it,” he told Nation.

However Zoologists have revealed that the Zebra which was one week old when the photos were taken has a rare melanin disorder. Zebras are orgininally not black and white animals, their stripes are simply an adaptation of nature.

The default colour of a zebra is black but the white stripes are formed from the inhibition of melanin. It is an adaptation of nature which scientists believe is meant to keep insects at bay, as the monochrome pattern seems to throw off the visual systems of flies.

Dino Melaye speaks on dumping PDP, returning to APC

Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has denied allegation that he was planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).



Melaye made the denial on Monday via his official twitter handle.

According to him, only ‘foolish and stupid’ people will decamp from PDP to APC.

The Senator also stated that APC will be defeated in forthcoming Kogi governorship election.

“Only compound fools and people with degree in stupidity will leave PDP for APC. APC will be defeated in Kogi State,” Melaye tweeted.

Recall that the Senator rejected the party’s appointment as the Director-General of the Kogi State PDP Governorship Campaign Council.

Two Nigerian men die after drug they swallowed burst open in their stomach during a flight (video)



Two Nigerian men identified as Chigozie Pascal Aniagbado and Chijioke Chidioka Ogbuefi, met their untimely death after the drug they swallowed burst open in their stomach during a flight from Brazil to Ethiopia.

Despite being placed on oxygen during the 12-hour flight, the drug mules died before an emergency landing could be conducted. According to an eyewitness, they couldn’t land in the nearest country because it had ebola.

An eyewitness wrote;

Just IN:: At this moment am in ethopian Airline from Brazil to Ethiopia my sit number is 30D which falls at the middle in between two men ,they are all black skin like me ……,The flight was 12hrs journey ,the young man at my right ask me to check the flight map to know how far we have gone which I did we already half the journey ……

Then he said to me do you speak Igbo I said yes ,he said he doesn’t know if he will make this journey that it seems the drugs he swallowed must have expired its stay in his system ,then my mind sink right inside my stomach ,I began to shiver ,he said don’t be scared it’s not in the bag is inside my body ….he said I should stand and get him drinking water


I refuse standing cos I was scared he may insert something in my bag ,I have to wave for the air hostess to come ,she came and serve him water ,he demands for food ,he was given …..he became calm ,few minutes later he brought an olive oil from his bag and drink ………

This moment I was confused I don’t know what to do ,then he started shivering /panicked & fell down that was when all the doctors in the plane assembled,questioning ,asking his country & tribe ,his blood was tested for sugar samples & high blood pressure…..he was able to open that he swallowed drugs.

As I speak his vomiting blood ,my God I don’t know what will lead a young strong man to this ,as I type now his gasping out the doctors has to put him on oxygen ,his progress is slow ,

Xenophobia: South Africa speaks on ‘cutting’ bilateral ties with Nigeria



The South African Acting High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb Bobby Moroe, on Sunday said his country will not cut bilateral ties with Nigeria.

He said his country remained committed to strengthening bilateral ties with Nigeria.

Moroe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja that the relationship between Nigeria and South Africa would remain strong and on course.

The envoy said President Muhammadu Buhari and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, were expected to meet in October to discuss modalities to address attacks on Nigerians living in that country.

Meanwhile, in a statement by Khusela Diko, spokesperson to the President, the South African Government said President Buhari’s state visit would reinforce the bond between both countries.

Diko stated that the visit, next month, would further strengthen their bond and jointly develop responses to challenges affecting people and businesses in South Africa and Nigeria.


According to him, President Cyril Ramaphosa held discussions, on Sept. 6, with Nigeria’s Special Envoy, Amb. Ahmed Abubakar, on violence in South Africa and developments in Nigeria around South African businesses.
