Career / Re: Doing A Phd Is Often A Waste Of Time, Says The Economist by natialo(m): 7:45pm On Sep 22, 2012 |
Nice topic. Now rounding up my MS and deciding whether to fulfill the PhD part(2-3 years of no sleep). I have always believed (and still do) PhD is not worth the stress (financially or socially). But sometimes, seeking knowledge is a goal of its own, you can't really help it. That said, if your goal is the least path to financial freedom, then a top rank MBA will be your best bet. It's funny now that in the US, academic positions (Assistant Profs) are the most competitive to get into rather than R&D posts in company or other regular jobs. But i think this is different in Naija as we do not really do any R&D. There are different ways to contribute you own quota towards your community, if you think a PhD will give you the best opportunity then go for it, if not, get your BS or MS and run with it. |
Politics / Re: Do You Want The Fuel Subsidy Back? Please Vote Here: by natialo(m): 4:04pm On Jan 13, 2012 |
"Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results." - Albert Einstein It's the simple problem with Nigeria. You don't want to deregulate yet u want refineries "dream on" You can't unbundle Nepa and pay higher tariffs yet you want constant power supply "wishful thinking" You should realize by now that it's the entire naija system thats corrupt. You should know now that gov't can not run any business. We had a chance and as usual, we blew it. Good news is that we will be importing from Ghana and Niger in the nearest future. You can't eat your cake and have it. Simple |
Politics / Re: El-rufai Live On Channels Tv by natialo(m): 7:44pm On Jan 12, 2012 |
Can I ask some questions and point out some things. Why should El-Rufai who was one of the first people to call for removal of petrol subsidy and increase in Nepa tariff as head of BPE be the one most vicious about the removal now http://businessnews.com.ng/2011/08/14/bpe-probe-world-bank-report-is-nonsense-el-rufai/ Why should el-rufai who was probed for paying BPE workers (even a corper) millions of dollars be complaining about waste in govt now. Why should someone who was head of a Privatization board be complaining against privatization. IS IT NOT JUST SHEER PARTISANSHIP?? Lets remember that we all have a duty to Nigeria |
Politics / Re: Three New Refineries Coming Says Works Minister by natialo(m): 12:52am On Jan 09, 2012 |
I tired of this country oo, how do help a country that will not even reason at all. Every medicine is bitter. Gov't cannot sustain refineries, we have done this for over 50 years, let them hands off. Who no dey suffer?? There will never be a perfect time for any policy. People should know when they r been used for selfish gains. How can we compare how-selves to developed countries and don't want to implement such policies to take us there. I weep for this country, u want refineries but not liberalization, u want power but not privatization, u good education but it must be free, u don't want corruption in gov't but u are all corrupt, u want jobs but no sacrifice. Other countries are investing in IT we are still struggling with this resource curse. |
Politics / Re: GEJ's State Of Emergency & Fuel Subsidy Removal Affects Cameroun Prices by natialo(m): 7:10am On Jan 06, 2012 |
Read some people's post like @faithin9ja @na_so @bombay and of cos , and believe there's still hope for Naija. The problem is that we think like idealist, my questions r 1: Why should u keep implementing a policy that has been failing for decades; then tmoro the same protesters will be comparing Nigeria to Ghana 2, Nigerians know now that the choice now is either between increasing price marginally or removing deregulation totally. Why not remove it and give this country a chance (everybody will suffer). A free market is always the cheapest way to fight corruption. Thats why we should fight for govt to hands-off none critical aspects of our economy. 3. Unless we are fooling ourselves, we should know now that no govt will come and totally eradicate corruption in nigeria (unless s/he will kill 160 million people). Even if the person tried we will say /he is either loopsided or anti his hometown 4. Why manage border when US can't even effectively police theirs. Even with all the drones and tech. 5. Is it not folly that petrol prices will be same in lagos and zamfara. Any logical explanation, that whyy Kano is loudest cos they know they might be a little worse off Comments Even if govt spends all the proceeds, they can't stop foreign coys from investing in refineries (i.e if we have stable govt and Buhari no overthrow ) Why would nigeria develop when we strike when they want to deregulate Nepa but buy fuel for 500 a day for gen set My 2 cents: I will say it to my brother (do not expect govt to do something for you, instead think of ways u can make it on ur own as no govt will ever immediately transform citizens) development is a slow and hardous process of doing the write thing. My conclusion is that while Subsidy Removal was an ill timed solution, it is still a solution. Arguments should be for spending and salary cuts by govt and political office holders not reintroduction of subsidy. My opinion, feel free to refute. God Bless Naija |
Politics / Re: Sahara Reporters? Biased Reporting? by natialo(m): 5:48pm On Apr 17, 2011 |
Yes, @dapachez and 13volts, I agree that all/most media houses have a little affiliation or bias, but I think they should still try a little to verify stories before printing, I stopped reading Nigerian Tribune for the same reason, I just think if people keep reading that kind of news, they will only come up with a certain kind of mindset. Journalism should be about fair reporting and I think Channels and Guardian are doing a good job |

Please is it only me or does anyone else think sahara reporters is overtly biased in its reporting. I think media houses/websites should try to exhibit a little objectivity>> Just checking or maybe its just me |
Politics / Re: Ribadu Was Obj’s Political Weapon - Waziri by natialo(m): 8:55pm On Jul 29, 2009 |
I guess its a pity for Nigeria, from the comments here where people base their opinions on tribal and partisan lines. The fact is that ribadu's efcc is the only one to have actually convicted serving politicians and civil servants in the history of this country. Whether the convicted fellow is an ally or not does not change the fact that the fellow is corrupt. It was only during Obj tenure that the international community viewed Nigeria as progressing in the fight against corruption, I am not saying that any1 is a saint but we must be seen to be fighting corruption and actually doing something against it. Untill we fight corruption, everything else will continue failing whether there is Due process(with corruption) or not. Today the nation is in a state of comatose, nothing simple works. My humble opinion, no hard feelings. |

Career / Advice A Corper by natialo(m): 8:36am On May 04, 2008 |
PLS, I need ur advice, am an engineering graduate currently serving in a North central state, i just got an offer to serve with a bank there, but the problem is that i have an offer (nysc too but i dont need to redeploy) from a telecomms firm in lagos, the pay isnt significantly different so it isnt a matter of greed, its just that of career projection, so i'm stuck whether to abandon the bank job (and the concept of nysc) or to forgo the telecomms jobs (am scared of how redundant i might be compared to my peers who served in those companies after the service year). lest i forget to add, the bank job is very time consuming and i hardly have time to read. i know some people might have faced this before, so please i need ur advice thanks for the response |
