Wow 21 rules.. lol.. First time here.. This guy is saying the truth. Most of you are just scared cause he is really saying the truth..
Lets face most Naija programmer don't wanna go deeper.. or Read more.. They just love the basic stuffs.. I believe if you wanna create an app pls take your time instead of creating something sub standard and begging us to download and manage it..
Think Global!! Ask yourself this question : Would my application be appreciated worldwide ? Is it a world class standard..
If we all had this mentality then by now we should be seeing Nigerian Zuckerbergs emerge.
We are all in this together.. Lets think GLOBAL and put Nigeria on the programming map. smiley .. Thanks

Lol, my problem with you guys is that you fail to factor in the environment in Nigeria.
In all indices of development, can Nigeria be compared to USA and other software giants?

The op raised pertinent issues in his write up, am a programmer and i`ll agree with the points he raised although i`v seen some guys bad mouthing the op already, the issue here is how many Nigerian made app can compete wt apps made by our counterparts in other continents? The fact is we need to face the reality, accept criticism and look for ways to improve. Although those so called "cramp" app takes lots of work, stress and headache to build, its not easy to do but then that's not an excuse not to improve or accept facts...

If you read my first reply to the op, you will see where I said it would've been understandable if he's a just a user and not an aspiring app developer.
He started by saying Nigerian programmers spend time doing rubbish. Imagine the ignorant generalization and that was what pissed me off the most.

I'm not denying the fact that most of our developers are below par, but then you have to take into consideration:
1) The standard of education in Nigeria
2) How rubost and competitive the software industry is
3)Available materials and funds.

You don't expect local softwares to measure up to international standard overnight.
Developing a good app is not a tea party and I believe they will get there with time.
Writing them off at this stage smacks of ignorance.

programmers loves "loop" (for non-
programers, loop is a name of a
programe action, used in games like
temple run and subway surfers. Which countinusly repeat a statement or lines
of actions in a program until an external
command causes it to stop.)
Lol, very obvious that your knowledge of codes is very low.
To start with, what do you mean by 'programmers loves loop' ?
Did they submit the lines of code to you? How did you know the number loop statements in the body of their codes?
FYI, loops doesn't generally depend on external input to end, the command can transfer to other lines on code depending on the parameters set by the programmer, could be internal or needing a user input tongue

I actually study
mechanical enginerring in school. The
best programmers ive met are far from
computer science class.
Oh oh.
Now I know the inspiration for your sermon has to do with age long bad belleism that some engineering students has for CS students, just because they learnt few lines of codes.
Programming / Re: My Problem With Nigeria Programers. by networkgenuis: 6:55am On Dec 08, 2014
I've read through your post the second time but yet to understand your point.
You are just being overly naïve.

Don't be too quick to pick holes in someone else's work when you haven't done something better. If you are just a user, it would've made more sense but as an aspiring developer that is just bad.
Heck! You aren't even a pro programmer and here you are badmouthing other people's sweat.

You took your naivety to an irksome height by mentioning the name of other people's work (babalawo) in your drivel.
I will be in the sidelines watching when you will release your 'superior' app. Tired of guys that runs amok, putting down others just because they learnt few lines of code.

Though the Ebola news is becoming stale lately, but I can't help but post this piece of interesting info.
Most times we Nigerians write our country off almost in all facet of human endeavor, that Nigeria as a country isn't interested in R&.D but consumption.

I was going through a thread about Iwu's research on Ebola and when I saw what some people commented there, I fought back a tear.
The painful thing is that most of the comments aren't borne out of genuine and informed reasons but of bigotry ala crab mentality.

We ridicule ourselves so much to the extent that everyone is afraid of trying anything new in order not to be a laughing stock.
When the WHO labelled our Ebola vaccine a pesticide/food supplement, many people towed the same line and discredited the same all over the web.

Thank God for Fashola, a visionary leader. I hope something good comes out of this research.

Politics / Lagos Offers To Fund Iwu’s Abandoned Ebola Research Work by networkgenuis: 6:35am On Sep 30, 2014
LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, expressed readiness of his administration to fund Prof. Maurice Iwu’s abandoned research work on infectious diseases, such as the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, if he so desired to benefit from the state’s N142,239,000 million research grant.

The governor, also tasked scientists in Africa and Nigeria in particular to get involved in ground breaking work that will contribute to the development of Africans.
Fashola made the remarks at the presentation of research grants, drawn in cheques to seven tertiary institutions, both Federal and states, including a neighbouring state at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.
The governor had constituted a 10-man Lagos State Research and Development Council which was inaugurated on November 21, 2012, towards identifying and funding research and development ideas to address the developmental challenges of Lagos State as well as to build the research capacity of the tertiary institutions in the state.

It will be recalled that Iwu who set up and headed the Bioresources Development and Conservation Programme, led a research that reportedly started 10 years ago, after researchers were led to a plant commonly eaten in West Africa, popularly known as Bitter kola by traditional native healers who said they have used the plant for the treatment of infectious diseases for centuries.
Prof. Iwu who also came from a family of traditional healers after the tour said: “This is a very exciting discovery. The same forest that yields the dreaded Ebola virus could be a source of the cure.”
Maurice Iwu, who is a Professor of Pharmacognosy, was appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in June 2005, and was later removed from office in April 2010.
According to Fashola: “I was curious about what Professor Maurice Iwu was doing with elections if he was already researching on how Bitter Kola can cure some diseases.
“He should come back and do his work because really this is his core competence and if he is listening to me, I am challenging him that he will be able to reopen the frontiers of that research and present it, this organization will fund it.”

Grant to scientists

A total research grant of N142, 239, 000 was approved for the state. The first tranche of N71, 119, 500 which is 50 percent of the total sum was presented to seven beneficiaries.
The grants were to be disbursed to10 sectors; three in agriculture, three in education, six in environmental science one in finance, eight in health, one in water, one information communication technology, one in manufacturing, three in power and energy and three in media creative art.
While stressing that the grant has no ethnic , religious nor geographical boundaries, added that government would continue to support and fund any idea, so long as it is relevant to the developmental objectives in the state. “It really does not matter it is knowledge, learning, result and advancement of development that really matter.’’

Speaking earlier, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, Chairman of the Lagos State Research and Development Council explained that the council held several meetings and consulted within and outside the government culminating in the development of 70-page research brief document containing identified research areas under the four main thematic areas of infrastructure development and management, social sciences, arts and humanity, science and technology and other areas.

According to him 30 proposals were approved for funding spread over the thematic areas with a grant of N126 million ranging from N3-N5 million per grant.
Among the institutions who received the 31 research projects grants were; University of Lagos, UNILAG, Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Caleb University, Pan African University and Yaba College of Technology.

The reason the merger of CPC and ACN was successful was because acn had no presidential aspirant and cpc under GMB want to add to his own vote.. So you can't just come from no where and steal GMB's dream. I guess at the end of the day, Mr Atiku will port to another party because that is what he does. He wants the presidential ticket by fire by force. It should have been GMB that should have announced first for his presidential ambition not Atiku. They want to have unlimited power, fame and wealth. That is the highest they can ever attain when you become the president of country. They have both tasted power and know how it feels. they want to continue the large life of lawlessness. That is all i feel about this so call people who wants to be Nigeria Top Boss. The only person i have seen who has a dream for this country is GMB. The rest are just bunch of senseless people who wants nothing but power and loot our already damaged economy dry.

Bro, there's no point getting emotional over this.
APC actually shot themselves on the foot when they courted people from the PDP, the likes of Atiku.
These set of people are overly ambitious, obviously corrupt and super rich.

We play money politics in Nigeria and believe me, Atiku will influence a lot in APC.
GMB will hardly clinch the ticket in the event of primaries as Atiku can virtually buy all the delegates.

The only person that can match Atiku money for money and wit for wit is BAT.
Interesting days ahead bro.

Politics / 2015: Buhari, Atiku Clash Over Procedure For Presidential Primaries by networkgenuis: 3:55am On Sep 29, 2014
The All Progressives Congress, APC was at the weekend headed for a serious crisis following strong reservations among its major presidential candidates over the procedure for adopting the 2015 presidential candidate for the party.

At the end of a National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party last weekend, the party was unable to forge a consensus on the issue with associates of the major aspirants reportedly holding on to their positions.
Two of the major presidential aspirants, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former vice-president Atiku Abubakar,
Vanguard learnt were at the head of the major divisions over the adoption of a consensus or the conduct of primaries for the adoption of the presidential candidate. The other major aspirants, notably, Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano State and Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah are reportedly indifferent.

Yesterday, aides of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, who is also set to enter the fray were largely mute on the issue, as one said it was too premature to express a position given the fact the governor is yet to formally declare his intention.

Buhari wants consensus candidacy.
Party sources disclosed that Buhari’s associates in the party were pushing for consensus on the fact that majority of the party positions across board were filled with consensus. On the other hand, the Buhari supporters are praying that if the consensus arrangement is jettisoned for any reason that a direct primary involving all 18 million registered members of the party be held.

Their point is being strongly opposed by Atiku’s growing supporters within the party hierarchy who say that a direct primary would be unwieldy, costly. Rather, the Atiku camp has proposed what it called a Modified Direct Primary that would involve about 20,000 delegates choosing the party candidate. That prospect is feared by the Buhari camp who claimed that it would offer opportunity to easily woo or take over delegates hitherto pledged to other aspirants.

According to the Buhari supporters, the introduction of full direct primary would limit the prospect of Atiku wooing the delegates unlike a modified primary that could see Atiku and his agents now in the field winning the number of delegates.
“Having carefully examined our great party” the APC constitution, especially Article 20 and the Electoral Act 2010, one comes to the inevitable conclusion that it is better to adopt consensus in electing our candidates for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governor and presidential candidates and where it fails to adopt direct primary,” a major Buhari supporter in the NEC told selected newsmen last weekend.

“It is on record that more than 80% of the ward, local government area and state congresses which produced the current executives of our great party were conducted through consensual arrangement. And more than 95% of the current National Executive Committee were elected via consensus,” he said
“When one considers the bitterness, rancour and bad blood indirect primary will most likely generate, it becomes safer to work towards a consensual agreement. We must at all times bear in mind that we are being hunted and that those who boasted to rule Nigeria for 60 years uninterrupted, are still hell bent to scuttle the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians for genuine ideological regime change.
“We must take note that our challenger, the ruling party has just announced the nomination of the incumbent President as its candidate by consensus means and they had commenced presidential campaign with vigour and dexterity”.

Atiku at the weekend, however, pledged his determination to abide by any democratic procedure adopted by the party even as he canvassed the advantages of the Modified Direct Primaries.
In an email statement issued to correspondents on the issue by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Atiku camp said:

“Our candidate is a democrat. What he is opposed to is any undemocratic process going by the name of consensus, imposition or anointment. Back in the PDP, if you remember, he dragged the party to court and won on these issues with a resounding victory.
Atiku’s camp proposes Modified Direct Primary
“The decision of our campaign to support the Modified Direct Primary is not because of anything but for its practical applicability.
“If you say you want direct primary, how can you get all 18 million registered APC voters to take part?
“That would mean you will be setting up a vote in every polling booth, doing the same thing as INEC is doing. It will be the same thing as a general election.Where do you have the resources, the manpower, the time and the security support for this?”
“Secondly, don’t forget that the figure of the registered members is not a settled issue in many states. There are many places in which it is being disputed. Besides, it keeps changing everyday. New members are coming in and some are also leaving us. How do you deal with this?”

“Those who argue for direct primaries also need to factor in the fact that there is no way you take the process from the hands of governors if you allow it to take place in the states. Genuine fears on the part of some people is that in nearly each state, they may just end up writing the results or where this is not possible, breathe down on the necks of local officials to do as they wish.”
“The Modified Direct Primary cannot on the other hand be faulted as being undemocratic because the delegates coming forward, as proposed, are all elected officials. There is no dispute concerning their status as elected officials. For this reason alone, they are credible because they are representative of their wards. We support it because we believe it is broad enough to make for popular representation.”
“Even at this, 20,000 delegates is still a large number to bring under one roof, considering that even the PDP brings together between four to five thousands delegates only for the their presidential primaries.”
