The only aspect of the code that seems not proper is the time limit to when a general overseer can stay. To me that's not too proper bcs nobody appoints most general oversser in the first place. I'm totally in support of almost every other aspects. Most religion organization lack accountability. And the so called Bokoharam got most of their funding from religious body
Investment / After Two-week Losing Streak, Naira Gains Against The Dollar by newsafrikturke: 1:07pm On Jan 11, 2017
After two-week losing streak, naira gains against the dollar. The naira on Monday appreciated at the parallel market after two weeks of posting losses.

The currency gained three points to exchange at N490, from N493 it posted last Friday, while the pound sterling and the euro traded at N600 and N506, respectively.

At the bureau de change window, the naira closed at N399, the CBN rate, while the pound sterling and the euro traded at N599 and N510, respectively.

Trading on the floor of the inter-bank market saw the naira stable at N305.00.

Traders at the market linked the appreciation of the naira to slow activities at the market.

The naira had exchanged around N490 in spite of speculations that it would hit the N500 to a dollar mark.

Investors are asking the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to devalue the local currency, despite a rise in the country’s dollar reserves.

Sports / FIFA To Expand World Cup To 48 Teams In 2026 by newsafrikturke: 12:57pm On Jan 11, 2017
ZURICH — The World Cup will grow to 48 teams within a decade under a plan approved unanimously on Tuesday by FIFA’s governing council, an enormous expansion of soccer’s showpiece tournament that was hailed by supporters as a victory for inclusion but that was derided by critics as the latest money grab by an organization still emerging from a series of financial scandals.

The larger field, which will be put in effect for the 2026 event, was ratified on Tuesday in a vote by the governing council of FIFA, the sport’s governing body. The move was the largest expansion, in percentage terms, for the World Cup since it went to 24 teams from 16 in 1982, and the first since it moved to the current 32 nations in 1998.

The decision to expand was both political and financial. FIFA’s new president, Gianni Infantino, had pressed for the change when he ran for the presidency last year, as a way to invigorate the event and to include more countries, and expansion is sure to be popular in the vote-rich confederations of Africa and Asia that serve as any FIFA president’s power base.

And few dispute that a 48-team World Cup would be a bigger, richer tournament, producing, by FIFA’s estimates, an additional $1billion in television, sponsorship and ticketing revenue in the first cycle alone.

But critics of the plan argue it will be a diminished tournament, with nearly a quarter of FIFA’s 211 member associations earning a place every four years, and one that, at 80 games over nearly five weeks, will exhaust the players and lead to middling performances in the later stages.

Politics / Adeboye: God Used Buhari To Punish FRC Boss – CAN by newsafrikturke: 12:49pm On Jan 11, 2017
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has welcomed the removal of Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Executive Secretary, Mr Jim Obazee.

FRC is the body whose law led to the retirement of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as General Overseer of Nigerian arm of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

Reacting, CAN General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake said the sack of Obazee by President Muhammadu Buhari was divine.

He said God used authorities to punish the official for daring to interfere with the work of the church.

“The sack of Jim (Obazee) is good riddance to bad rubbish. Anybody that wants to fight the church will find himself where he does not want,” he told The Nation.

“Jim got to the position by the grace of God but set out to probe and destroy the church of God. I spoke with him several times on this issue but he wouldn’t listen.

“He was going to take the church to what is worse than Armageddon. Thank God the authorities have stepped in to rewrite the wrong.

“He should have been fired a long time ago and we don’t know why he was left alone, but God’s time is always the best.

“That code should be thrown out completely because the government should not interfere with the church.

“The church is a no-go zone for the government. Doing that has serious implications. If they attempt it, it will lead to confusion in the nation”, he added.

Similarly, Senior Pastor, Living Spring Chapel International, Lagos, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, has condemned the controversial law.

He said the sack “is a right step in the right direction. The government has no business meddling in the internal structure and governance of the church.

“There is no government in the world that does that. Anyone who does that is incurring the wrath of God. Yes, there could be financial regulation of churches but never in the internal structure of the church.

“Everything that has to do with the internal structure and governance of the church must be expunged from the code.”

Obazee, a former pastor of the RCCG, had said only 89 of the 23,216 registered churches in the country had complied with FRC provisions.

Meanwhile, the leadership of CAN is set to hold an emergency meeting on the FRC code and other related matters.

CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle said the organisation’s lawyers would review the issues and make their position known to the public.

Foreign Affairs / Re: What Sick ISIS Savages Did To Two Turkish Soldiers In Aleppo.. Wicked World! by newsafrikturke: 12:46pm On Jan 11, 2017
newsafrikturke:
Sick ISIS savages have filmed themselves burning two Turkish soldiers alive having captured them in Aleppo.

A disturbing video shows two men with freshly-shaved heads dressed in seemingly fuel-doused camouflage army gear taken out of a cage and walked like dogs to their death by Islamic State thugs.

Standing barefoot in the middle of a desert, they are connected by the neck to a torched fuse which eventually engulfs their bodies in flames.
As news of the video reached Turkey, the government shut down social media outlets to stop the victims’ countrymen seeing the execution.

The 19-minute video released by ISIS in the Aleppo Province starts with footage of terrorists fighting on the ground.

At the end of the clip, two men are taken from a cage in the middle of the desert.

They are walked like dogs by two ISIS militants, who appear unmasked and wearing black clothing, brown suicide belts and carrying assault rifles.

The two men are made to stand a few feet from each other with their backs to a long fuse attached to their necks with a chain, which is ignited by one of the ISIS militants with the push of a button.

Foreign Affairs / Obama Cried At Send-off, Says He Could Have Been Re-elected by newsafrikturke: 2:23pm On Dec 29, 2016
President Obama admitted he cried at a recent senior staff send-off dinner and is now claiming that he’d be able to get re-elected if he had run for president again.

“I am confident in this vision because I’m confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it,” Obama said in a “The Axe Files” podcast interview by former aide David Axelrod.

“I know that in conversations that I’ve had with people around the country, even some people who disagreed with me, they would say, ‘The vision, the direction that you point towards is the right one,’” the outgoing president said.

The Constitution limits a president to serving only two terms.

Reflecting on his presidency, Obama said he’s been inspired by the “heart” and “idealism” of his staff.

“We had our senior staff dinner … I got through about four minutes of the thing and started getting the hanky out,” he admitted.

Obama said it feels like the “band” is breaking up, but that he wants to devote his post-presidency to growing the “talent” and vision that began in his two terms as president of the United States.

“Overall, this place never got cynical,” he said, praising the many aides he’s had over the years.
