Henry240: Yes, they were a lot of black solders fighting for white rule. In a society where blacks had few prospects besides being teachers and nurses, the security force was another option. I believe the system subverted the population big time, i.e. serving the Rhodesian government gave you a job and comfort, or you oppose and you and your family you struggle in the bush. Worse is that sometimes any employment by the government got you killed by the guerrillas. As an example, my uncle got killed for working for the registry where is was a photographer (photo IDs). However, by far most of my relations were guerrillas, and my own mother was an informant (chibwido). While she mourns the killing of her brother by her own side, she does not demonize ZANLA. Hard hitting pseudo operations by the Selous Scouts needed black people to work. It needed and relied mostly on captured (and turned) guerrillas. Subversion was a major factor with both cohesive and persuasive means applied. 1 Like |

Henry240: I thought the same. Just that the Pakistan article has $183m fand saying 3 planes. But them it is saying "singed recently" so maybe the additional 3 is what has been signed recently. |

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the issuance of a certificate of sovereign guarantee for the sale of three JF-17 aircraft to Nigerian Air Force against a sum of $184.3 million, to support the declining foreign exchange reserves. The Ministry of Defence Production had tabled a summary before the ECC which approved the issuance of a certificate of sovereign guarantee to show commitment for the provision of the aforementioned aircraft to Nigerian Air Force, in line with a contract signed between the two sides recently. Officials familiar with the development told The Express Tribune that the Ministry of Defence Production informed the ECC that the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) was continuing its role as Repair Overhaul Organisation (ROO) for technical operation support of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). The ministry further informed the economic decision-making committee that the PAC Kamra had signed a contract for the sale of three JF-17 aircraft and associated package to Nigerian Air Force. According to Article 6.1 of the contract, PAC Kamra shall present the sovereign bank guarantee from the Government of Pakistan prior to the release of payment by Nigeria. No bank loan or credit financing is involved in this case, the ECC was told. The ministry told the ECC that the Nigerian authorities had been informed that the Government of Pakistan would issue a certificate of sovereign guarantee rather than a certificate of sovereign bank guarantee, and the Nigerians had agreed to it. The guarantee referred here is the surety from the Government of Pakistan that contracted products and related equipment would be provided to the purchaser by the PAC Kamra. A draft of the requisite guarantee acceptable to the purchaser is also required concurrently. https://tribune.com.pk/story/1832482/2-ecc-okays-sale-jf-17-nigeria-184-3m/ 5 Likes |

It has been installed on governmental or VIP aircraft thus providing protection against MANPADS, including the most recent ones, some of which were simulated during EMBOW XIII, always in combination with droppable IR flares for improved all-aspect protection. |

ViceAdmiral: In the images the F-7s have not missiles. I however suspect PL-5s and/or PL-9s. SIPRI alledged Namibia imported Grifo-MG radars. Considering the KLJ-6F (SD-10 capable) was already available, it would be interesting why they would have gone for the Grifo unless it was at least equivalent.

Henry240: Could be the 4 tonne capacity of the Mil-17 and/or the physical dimensions. They may have found themselves needing to drop a few heavy loads. For high value targets like that I am assuming they needed instant devastation. The 300 figures, quick high and unusual, should support the unusual method of delivery too 1 Like |
