hi guys, i have a strong 4663x and i have been trying to use the tv/sat button on the remote control and it seems not to be working. all i see on the display is tv when pressed and the channel numbers when pressed the second time. i have set the rf channel number, connected the tv antena to the receiver and the tv rf input to rf out put of the receiver as stated in the manual, but nothing seems to be working. i understand it is supposed to output the local tv channel when you press tv and output the satellite channels when you press sat. somebody help me. thanks

My decoders (4653X & 4663X) are yet to accept the patch softwares. During upgradings, I got these two messages: DONT POWER-OFF THE STB. Later, INVALID FIRMWARE!. For 4663X,I got the software from your post. In the case of 4653X, I was told that the software was corrupt so I had to visit www.persiangig.com for its download. Please, can you tell me the reasons for these or the normal step-by-step software loading on strong decoders? Thanks.

I had similar experience with a friend decoder recently. The firmware I used for my 4653x could not be loaded his own from his Laptop, always complaining of INVALID FIRMWARE, I took the said decoder to my office, then transfered the same firmware using a desktop system, and it worked without any problem. alternatively use a simple flash to upload the firmware. I said simple b/c there are some Flash drisk that require software installation b/4 they initialize.

I am very sorry for the long silence.I was damn too tired after the highly successful operation ooops, installation.I had to shuttle between Lagos and Abeokuta 100km thrice at the weekend getting Adewest and the equipment.I dozed off thrice while driving alone on Saturday.I had to rush back to Lagos the following morning inspite of the fact that I was on the radio overnight.This is the installation diary.
SUNDAY-Adewest and I got to Abeokuta on Sunday afternoon.we proceeded to site and discovered to our chagrin that the pole which had been mounted for over a month had a very weak concrete base.we spent the whole of the evening getting the pole in place,buying half a bag of cement and I personally dug the ground deeper.I almost quenched,with my palm bleeding.Adewest was annoyed and was almost leaving for Lagos.It was not my fault that the bricklayer didnt do a good job.I eventually used juju to hook Adewest for 3days.we went to bed at about 11pm completely exhausted.
MONDAY-We woke up at exactly 6am to freshen up and to start coupling the Strong 2.4m pan which is damn too heavy.Adewest must be an incredible hulk to have been able to transport about 4 of it to Lagos from Bauchi! I nearly collapsed when I carried the package out for assembling.we finished the task of coupling by 7.30am.By then,the pole's concrete base was fairly dry.With the help of my brothers,we got the dish on the pole.then,the allignment task started.we tried StarGold lnb and later used Digisat.We eventually settled for Digisat.Sincerely,Adewest is a genius.He took his time to get the very best of allignment and signal.We got all the birds from Thaicom on the extreme East  to MetrotvGhana on the extreme West.I found it unbelievable when we got Astra1H on 19 East but all the Sky channels are scrambled.Hotbird,Nilesat(without Showsports) and Orbit(Eurobird2)were also picked easily.the new jack he brought from Bauchi had a problem while we were tracking.It delayed us for about an hour but luckily I had a spare which we eventually used.We later moved to rectify the fault on the 3m fibre.the welder had already adjusted the scaller.Adewest brought another Fuji lnb to replace the old Fuji.In the past,I used to pick Showsports  between 4pm and 6am,CNN 10pm to 6am.With Adewest's magical touch on Monday night,I now pick everything 24hrs no freezing at 56/58% and 54/56% respectively at the peak period,52/50% and 50/48% at the weak period.He said the reason for the initial fault was the focal length which was too long,and the old Fuji lnb on it is not as strong as the new Fuji.I think folo28 has the same challenge with his 3m fibre in Abule-Egba,Lagos.We went to bed the following day at about 2am after talking to mide2008 on the phone.
TUESDAY-We left for Lagos at 9am feeling really exhausted.I am going back to Abeokuta on Saturday to connect as many neighbours to the receivers.
Many thanks to PHCN for ensuring that we had electricity for about 70% of our installation time.My neighbours thought I bribed PHCN for the steady power supply we had.the situation improved the moment we got all equipment on site so it was hard to believe that I didnt talk to PHCN/NEPA.the only casuality we had was the new jack and Thaicom.we had to change the direction of the lnb holder which has 3 lnbs(1 ku-band,1 c-band dielectric,1 c-band non dielectric) to improve on the Nilesat Horizontal signal,so we had to sacrifice Thaicom which was worth it.I suggest that anybody in the Lagos area looking for Showsports should get a motorised 3m or 4m motorised fibre or pan.Olofofo and Adewest just informed me that 3m is scarce now at the moulder's workshop at Ladipo,Lagos.4m fibre is available for N58000,AND YOU ARE SURE OF PICKING EVERY GADDEM  THING.2.4m pan can pick Showsports only from Ibadan/Osogbo upward,even Abeokuta latitude could not reach the weak signal on 2.4m not to talk of Lagos.I use the 3m fibre for it.the mesh and 1.8m pan have been brought down for keeps or sale if you can pick them in Abeokuta.they are still good and going out at a cheap price for serious bidders.no long distance courier transaction please.I am just too busy and weak to do it.
Olofofo is next on the installation itinerary.I just spoke to ADEWEST at Olofofo's end.That was the installation diary.All enquiries to Adewest please.I AM STILL FAGGED OUT! Thanks to every member.

thanks for the call.on the new jsc+ patch,it disables disney and bloomberg even if you put the keys manually.wetin u dey do with them when you can pick everything on echolink.the January 2009 software takes time to open ART but the December 23,2008 is very fast.So upgrade echolink with the December 23,2008 software.ADEWEST brought some echolink receivers.I heard it is getting scarce in the North.

without wasting words,a lot of us here have engaged several installers in the past without getting results.I had the services of about 4 in the past without any great result except the last one who was the best.it was Adewest that made a lot of us in Lagos area to realise that we could pick Nilesat,orbit and hotbird on 1.8m.we thought it was impossible.he also discovered astra here.so,why do you have to pour cold water on his highly commendable efforts?Installers here believe that showtime sports cant be picked even with 4m,but we proved them wrong.please go back and read how he was chased away by some members when he dropped some valuable info which everybody is now enjoying.adrusa,if you no fear man please fear God oooo.Yorubas would say- orisa ti o ba le gbe mi,se mi bi o se ba mi-god/diety if you cant improve my condition please dont make it worse.if you cant commend him,please it is better to keep mute than make us feel bad.why didnt my installers rectify the 3m problems for about 4years,yet Adewest performed the magic in minutes?Installers here are shocked about his feat.so what are you talking about,or you be installer?or could it be that you are in the North?if you are,then i will understand why you thought that it was no big deal.if you see the way guys here are talking about getting 4m fibre for showsports/art,then you will understand why Adewest is being reverred.regards.

Thanks for your long explanation. I'm not an installer and I'm not trying to badmouth adewest. I dont know him and I certainly can have nothing against him. I'm a sat enthusiast like many people here. I started long time ago in the days of analog CNN on arabsat. Being a guy who doesn't mind a dirty hand once in a while, having engaged not less than ten different installers at different times, I have picked the skill and I have come to appreciate that tracking birds is not a very hard task, all that is required is get your parameters right.

My science background might have helped. I get the best on my installations after the installer has done his job and gone home. Being a big man  , actually I'm a senior doctor and university lecturer, I allow the installer to do the hard work, I then come out in the night or weekends to refine the work and get the best.

So, when you talk so highly of Adewest and your three days of hardwork to track those birds, I started wondering.

I know there are many installers here, so I will say why I think many of them are not good.

1. Many of them do not know that there is nothing about tracking a satellite that is not laid down. To track a bird you need to know where you are on the earth (your gps co-ordinate), the azimuth and the elevation of the bird at that point (an inclinometer), your true east and west (A compass), the focal lenght of the dish you are using (a measuring tape), a good (perfect parabolic dish), good LNB (0.5db and below) and good cable. With these you will track a trackable bird in minutes. You may then need to "fine tune" your installation to correct for inperfection in your dish, your pole and your lnb holder.

2. Many dont have the right tools. I have only seen one with an inclinometer and about 2 with a compass. None with a gps.

3. Many like some here feels that with experience you dont need these equipments. I tell them, I have been a doctor for about fifteen years, after 6 years of training, I still use my stethoscope and do lab tests. You may know your way in darkness, but it will never be as smooth and as painless as when you are holding a tourch.

4. To cut costs many buy substandard equipments; bad receiver, bad lnb, bad dish.

5. Many put money above integrity. One ran away with the money I gave him for a reciever about 7 years ago. That is when digital recievers cost more than 20k

6. Many thinks that they are too smart to listen to people like us.

There is no need to disparage the achievement of adewest-the FTA guru. However, my advice is that we should not be too carried away with the euphoria of the moment. Let us not forget the main purpose of this thread - which is to learn from one another. My expectation is that if one man in a group has a particular skill or knowledge, such skill or knowledge should be transferable to others such that other interested members can learn and stand on their own. For instance, I expect toxnaija, after witnessing adewest's installation first hand, to be able to replicate same for people like olofofo. And olofofo, having been taught by toxnaija, he should be able to perform something similar for another member like folo28 and folo28 performs for another member and so on and on. That way we can spread the knowledge. My worry in this present scenario is that nothing like that seems to be happening. Rather, what we have is only one man going round from one member to the next. The question is: what if something happens to all these installations tomorrow? I'm not wishing ill for any one but we still cannot rule out force of nature-wind, rain storm, etc. If or when this happens, will adewest start going round all over again from house to house to re-do the magic? I think it's time we wake up and be wise. Let's not be too lazy to learn. Observe what adewest is doing and be ready to replicate such on your own (and possibly teach others)-that way you wouldn't be caught napping when the chips are down

with all respect sir,i dont think u understand what we guys in the south re going through in terms of signal reception,maybe one of this days u ll come to ph to help a friend in dish installation,maybe then u ll understand.Adewest gave us hope and courage.very soon u ll start hearing testimony from we southern guys.Satellite installation or dish alignment depend on the level of signal in a particular location,so i dont think adewest spend much time at all in tox installation.

Good job Adewest and tox9ja.,but i said something in the past that i still believe so much in strong dish .if you have good lnb ,good cable and good receiver you are always at the top of your professional career as far as installation and tracking is concerned.if you purchase the right equipment ,to track those bird it will not take time.the problem with us is that we want people to feed us with information and after getting the information we hardly work on it for better result.
George D ,i think people stop sharing ideas because most installers who have access to this thread ,read and use ideas to make money.I know like four of them where i stay.
I think people in this forum now share ideas by PM on phone calls and sms.if you are not among you cant be among.old members share and pass great ideas and experiences on the forum.(both publicly and privately).

i think adewest has reveled enough of his magical powers; good lnb,good dish,scalar,pics in page #45,my brother if u follow allthis things and with the help of gsm phone u ll achieve almost the same thing but with a longer period of time.tox and olofofo re the sacrifed and more kudos to them.

Thanks for giving that exciting report and well done to you and Adewest on the achievements.

I noticed one thing: you mention that Sky channels on Astra 1H were scrambled -- first the Sky channels are actually not on Astra 1H which is at 19e but on Astra 2 which is at 28e. It may be that your receiver's information is not up to date or something; please check again and confirm whether it is indeed 19e that you receive or 28e. As an aside, I would say that when giving reception reports it is helpful to give the orbital position of the particular satellite you are referring to: for instance, you mention Thaicom whereas there are in fact a number of Thaicom satellites at different orbital positions such as 50e & 78e; also when you say Metro TV in extreme West, I had to do a quick check to find out that you are probably talking about 37w.

Well done again, now you have plenty enough to watch?

I agree with some of the points you make (incidentally we have a similar profile somewhat except my field is law). It is indeed true that the more one is aware of the underlying theories, the better one's installation skills are likely to be and one will not be amazed at, though respectful of, installation/reception reports such as that given by toxnaija. However, there is an important point to draw from the expertise of people like badaru & Adewest which is this: in West Africa in particular we are relatively behind in FTA satellite awareness whether as a hobby, from a professional standpoint or even in terms of advancement of collective global human knowledge. Specifically, we didn't have much, if any, information as to the 'out of footprint' satellites that can be received in our region; with what badaru and Adewest have achieved, we and indeed the world begin to realise what is possible. Let me put it in a different way as if this is a matter of academic/professional research: as far as practical knowledge of FTA satellite reception in Nigeria/West Africa specifically are concerned, people like badaru and Adewest can be referred to legitimately as world leading experts. In fact, once I've got more information I shall be notifying the reception reports at a couple of forum of experts here in the UK.

Concerning tox climbing and doing installation, i think that will happen in his next life but not in this one, the guy lazy no be small. Na only bag of cement ihn carry, wey ihn dey complain.
You cant compare tracking with medical profession, kindly ask adewest if he works with GPS, Compass e.t.c, those ones even slow down the work of the experts. There're so many of us here who are ready to help eachother out, badaru,ola(90cm expert only), olofofo, obnelly e.t.c
I know adewest is good, but i am better, just that i've not really discover myself and due to so many factors hindering me right now.

I was laughing out loud after reading your post of being better than Adewest and I immediately recalled what we experienced at my place during the 3m installation, hope say you no dey look for Adewest trouble O!.
Well, my setup is still same since Badaru's visit and the incident, though I have gotten an imported scalar and a Digisat LNB (both bought in KD), but time constraints has kept me away from touching the setup, besides Badaru's touch is still doing very well as per reception quality. I will talk to Tox to get an update on how to amend the scalar to try it out myself in due course. The stations I pick are as available with Echolink and the patch of 4653X which I was able to update with the assistance of Badaru & Olofofo.
My assignment now is to work on the scalar and try to come up with showsports signal by myself with the consultation of nairalanders if need be.
