Romance / This Woman Wants To Be Remembered For Having World’s Biggest Hips (photos) by nigeriapenInfo: 10:36pm On Nov 05, 2019
A woman who is obsessed with acquiring really large hips, has decided to have the world’s biggest hips even though it may kill her.

Bobbi-Jo Westley Bobbi-Jo Westley is a woman who is on a mission to have the world’s biggest hips. Currently measuring 95 inches, she’s just four inches off Mikel Ruffinelli’s – the current record holder – assets. According to Metro UK, although she isn’t quite there yet, Bobbi-Jo has legions of followers around the globe who trade her pictures online.

And for her biggest fans, she arranges special ‘crushing’ sessions where they pay to have her sit on them. ‘My hips are what make me unique,’ she says. ‘They’re what makes me “me”‘.

Bobbi-Jo was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid six years ago and she puts her weight gain down to that. But when nutritionist Nadia Sharifi visited Bobbi-Jo recently, she wasn’t convinced that that was the explanation.

She says that Bobbi-Jo is a ‘ticking time bomb’ and that her current lifestyle could result in an early death. ‘It’s literally a life or death choice at this point,’ she says.

‘Hormones, or thyroid issues, or blood type or ancestry might play a little part, but ultimately it’s down to what we put into our mouth.‘When we’re talking about her veins, she can have a block very easily. She is really, truly a ticking time bomb.’

Politics / CBN Directs Banks To Shun Telcos That Increase USSD Charge by nigeriapenInfo: 6:24pm On Oct 20, 2019

The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele

Following a new notice to subscribers by telco companies concerning new charges, the CBN has intervened.

The Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN) has directed banks to shun telecommunication providers that increase USSD charge.

The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, said since the Telcos are adamant about increasing the charge, banks should move their business to any Telco that is ready to offer the service at a lower cost.

It was earlier reported that customers who use unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) channels to access banking services would have to pay new charges from October 21.

Some telecommunications network service providers have sent notices to their customers of the new charge.

Politics / More Worries For Gov Dickson As Five More Aides, Sanitation Boss Quit by nigeriapenInfo: 4:56pm On Oct 20, 2019

Five more aides to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State have resigned their positions in his administration few weeks to the forthcoming governorship election.

They include B. N Erewari-Igbeta, Special Adviser on Environment; Benjamin Ogbara, Director, Ethics and Compliance, Due Process Bureau; Lawrence Ebede, Special Adviser; Natus Zebakame, Special Adviser on ICT Development and Iniruo Ipogi, Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs.

Also, the Chairman, Bayelsa State Sanitation Authority, Robert Enogha, has withdrawn his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party while the party’s legal adviser in Ekeremor Local Government Area, Omoro Ogei, has quit his position.

They made their resignations and PDP membership withdrawal known in separate letters addressed to the governor and the state chairman of the party.

Erewari-Igbeta, Ogei, Ipogi and Zebakame said in their letters, copies of which were sighted by our correspondent, that they resigned on “personal grounds” while Ogbara said he was quitting “to go back into private legal practice.”

However, Ebede said his reason for resigning was “mostly ideological”, stressing that he could no longer continue “aiding and supporting the emperorship of the restoration party.”

Enogha, in his resignation letter dated October 18, 2019, said he was withdrawing his membership of the PDP “with so much pain as a foundation member of the PDP which was truly democratic then.”

He added that he had lost confidence in the party’s ability to uphold the tenets of democracy hence the withdrawal of his membership.

However, none of the appointees indicated that they were defecting from the PDP to the opposition All Progressives Congress.

Sports / Sunday Mba,nigerian International, Eyes Return To Football After 2 Years Absence by nigeriapenInfo: 2:51pm On Oct 17, 2019

Sunday Mba is determined to return to topflight action after being out of action for the last two years.

The AFCON 2013 winner who last played for Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor in September 2017 is not giving up about making a comeback. Mba, now 30, scored Super Eagles winning goal in the quarter final against Cote D’Ivoire and the match-winner against Burkina Faso in the final.

“As a free agent things are not really that easy, but you can only be hopeful. ‪”My desire is to get back into club football and I am working hard to start playing again.

‪”Football is everything I have and I cannot just give up. I believe there’s something out there for me,” he told BBC Sport.‬ The former Warri Wolves midfielder progressed with the Nigerian team to the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil after which he joined French club Bastia.

But his relationship with late Stephen Keshi went sour as he was dropped from final 23-man squad that played in the World Cup in 2014. And after two years of active football Mba is aware of the challenges of playing at the highest level again. ‪”First you’d need the luck to find someone that believes in you and ready to give you a chance,” he said.‬

‪”I’ve continued to stay in shape, train daily and be physically ready for any opportunity.‬ ‪”I still have something to give and will continue to stay mentally and physically ready.

“‬ Mba scored three goals in 16 appearances for the three time African champions and managed eight goals in 55 appearances for his Turkish club.‬‬

Recently it was reported that Super Eagles proposed friendly against the four-time world champions Germany was not granted by the European side. According to Sporting Life, the football agent attached to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), requested for an international meeting between both nations.

Politics / Sexual Misconduct: UI Inaugurates Ad-hoc Committee (photos) by nigeriapenInfo: 1:54pm On Oct 17, 2019

Sequel to the recent exposition on the sex- for-grades scandal affecting a lecturer of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the University of Ibadan has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate claims of sexual misconducts in the institution.

This development was contained in a release by Professor Idowu Olayinka, the Vice-Chancellor of the university as seen on his face book account Wednesday evening.

According to him: “The recent exposé of sexual misconduct in Nigerian universities is deeply disturbing and necessitates a reminder that the University of Ibadan maintains the tradition and standard of zero tolerance for sexual harassment and misconducts as contained in our Staff and Student Information Handbooks, the recently revised Gender Policy and Sexual Harassment Policy, and other allied documents as earlier approved by both the Senate and Council.

“Consequently, in order to ensure that the university is proactive in preventing incidences of sexual misconducts and be assured that the University of Ibadan is a safe space for staff and students, members of the university community are hereby notified that an ad-hoc committee has just been inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor to among others, investigate claims of sexual misconducts.

“To assist with their task, kindly communicate all relevant information on the subject matter to e-mail: wourlus@gmail.com; and phone number 07033281680.”

Foreign Affairs / UN Ends 15-year Peacekeeping Operations In Haiti (photo) by nigeriapenInfo: 10:15pm On Oct 16, 2019

The UN Security Council ended 15 years of peacekeeping operations in Haiti on Tuesday, voicing regret that the country is still saddled with huge economic, political and social woes.

The United Nations first sent peacekeepers to Haiti after then-president Jean-Bertrand Aristide was overthrown by the army in 2004 under the pressure of a popular uprising.

In 2017 those soldiers were replaced by a UN police mission whose numbers dropped gradually from 1,300 to 600 and are now to be replaced by a scaled-down political mission.

Haiti today remains the poorest country in the Americas, plagued by political instability.

Over the past year, it has sunk deeper into political crisis amid anti-corruption protests demanding President Jovenel Moise’s resignation — which he said on Tuesday he would not do.

“It would be irresponsible of me if today I got up, took out a letter of resignation, signed it and left, leaving the country like that,” he said at a press conference.

On Tuesday the US ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, described Haiti as at a crossroads.

“We urge Haiti’s political, economic, and civil society stakeholders to work peacefully to address the most pressing economic and social challenges facing the country,” she said.

Craft recalled that the United States is Haiti’s main bilateral benefactor, providing $5.2 billion in aid since a devastating earthquake hit the country in 2010.

Since coming to power in February 2017, Moise has faced the anger of an opposition movement that refuses to recognize his victory in an election widely seen as dubious.

Anger mounted in late August due to a national fuel shortage, and protests turned violent.

Haiti has just a caretaker government, and legislative elections that were supposed to be held this month have been postponed indefinitely.

Moise is seeking dialogue with the opposition but the latter has refused so far.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sounded pessimistic about Haiti in a report released Tuesday.

“The protracted multidimensional crisis with which it has been contending since July 2018 shows little sign of abatement or resolution,” Guterres wrote.

“I urge all actors to set aside their differences and particular interests to work together to overcome the increasingly preoccupying situation,” he added.

Art, Graphics & Video / Nigerian Painting Fetches £1.1m After Google Search (photo) by nigeriapenInfo: 11:09pm On Oct 15, 2019
News By NIGERIAPEN.COM.NG

A painting by the Nigerian artist responsible for the “African Mona Lisa” sold at auction in London on Tuesday for £1.1 million after the family who owned it googled the signature and realised its importance.

“Christine”, by 20th century master of African modernism Ben Enwonwu, had been in the sitter’s family home ever since it was painted in Lagos in 1971.

“The family were unaware of the significance of the painting or the importance of the artist, until a chance “googling” of the signature led them to Sotheby’s free Online Estimate Platform,” said the London auction house.

The painting fetched over seven times the pre-auction estimate, finally going under the hammer for £1.1 million (1.3 million euros, $1.4 million).

The work precedes the artist’s 1974 painting of Ife royal princess Adetutu “Tutu” Ademiluyi, which recently turned up in a London flat after not being seen in decades.

The portrait is a national icon in Nigeria, with Booker Prize-winning novelist Ben Okri telling AFP that it was thought of as “the African Mona Lisa”.

Enwonwu, who died in 1994, is considered the father of Nigerian modernism.

He made three paintings of “Tutu”, the locations of all of which had been a mystery until the recent discovery.

The works became symbols of peace following the clash of ethnic groups in the Nigerian–Biafran conflict of the late 1960s.

Iwerinma expressed his optimism after Nigeria lost to Canada 2-0 (21-11, 22-20) at the ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar.

He said the players played with a high level of dedication, selflessness and determination but were beaten by the best players in the world.

According to the coach, “Nigeria can qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics; the world beach games has re-affirmed my hope and confidence in the nation’s beach volleyball team. We played against the best teams in the world (Brazil, USA and Czech) and the girls were able to get 10 points from them. This shows we have improved drastically.

“The girls never showed any sign of complacency during and after the matches; their heads were up high after playing against Canada in the quarterfinals despite the loss”.

He further said, “The ANOC World beach games have confirmed that the players that we can stand against the best in the world and going by recent antecedent we are a world-class beach volleyball playing nation”.

He commended the leadership of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation for believing in the team that went to Doha.

“The President of the Federation has been supportive and has supported the beach volleyball teams during every of their programs. Some of the players participated at the World Championship and featured at the snow volleyball championship too”.

He concluded that Africa is blessed with talented players that can challenge European players but identified funding as a major problem that has hampered the growth of the game.

Business / Google Ban Payday Loan Apps From Its Play Store (photos) by nigeriapenInfo: 2:10pm On Oct 14, 2019
TechNews By TOPMAG.PW

Google has fought predatory loans for a while, but now it’s taking that fight to its app store. The Wall Street Journal has learned that Google recently banned Play Store apps with “deceptive or harmful” personal loans where the annual percentage rate is 36 percent or higher, such as many payday loans. A spokesman said the expanded financial policy, implemented in August, was meant to “protect users” against “exploitative” terms.

Apple doesn’t have a similar ban, but told the WSJ that it routinely reviews its App Store rules to “address new or emerging issues.”

Payday loanTo no one’s surprise, affected lenders aren’t happy — this forces them to either offer lower rates or bow out entirely. Online Lenders Alliance CEO Mary Jackson repeatedly maintained that the companies’ practices were allowed, arguing that the ban hurts “legitimate operators” as well as customers looking for “legal loans.”

Google did same to Aptoide apps, While there won’t be too many people mourning the absence of these loans, Google’s decision does raise the question of whether store operators should ban apps whose business models are ethically shaky, but still legal. Much like retailers’ approaches to e-cigarettes, tech giants may have enough power to decide whether or not entire business categories can succeed.

Business / Facebook Sues By Mobile Banking Firm Over Calibra’s Logo (photos) by nigeriapenInfo: 12:30pm On Oct 14, 2019
TechNews By TOPMAG.PW

Again,Facebook’s Libra project has been hit with another issue to deal with: a mobile banking app has sued the social network’s Calibra subsidiary over their very similar logos.

The tech giant introduced Calibra as the division that will oversee its cryptocurrency plans, including the development of a digital wallet.

According to the lawsuit filed by a mobile banking company called Current, Calibra’s logo “is not only confusingly similar to, but virtually identical to the Current Marks.”

As you can see in the image Current posted on Twitter, their logos do look very similar:

Now here’s where it gets a lot more interesting: both logos were reportedly designed by San Francisco branding firm Character, which was also named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

It’s still unclear how that happened, but CoinDesk notes that Current filed an application for its logo on June 26th, a few days after Calibra was unveiled.

Current’s CEO Stuart Sopp called out the similarities in their logos almost as soon as Calibra was introduced, though. Sopp told CNBC that time that his company worked with Character for 6 months to come up with the logo.

“Facebook has all the money and resources in the world. If they truly wanted to make banking more inclusive and fair, they should’ve come up with their own ideas and branding, like we have,” he said.

In related news, Facebook’s Libra Association — the non-profit created to oversee the cryptocurrency — has been losing founding members left and right.

PayPal’s exit earlier this month, Stripe and eBay followed suit and chose not to back the project anymore. Mastercard and Visa have also pulled their support before the group’s first board meeting on Monday.

Facebook’s effort to create a cryptocurrency was dealt a blow on Friday after several key partners, including MasterCard, Visa, eBay, paypal,Stripe and Mercado Pago, abandoned the project, the first company to abandon the project was paypal. The defections followed fierce criticism from global regulators and lawmakers, and have prompted some industry-watchers to question whether the Libra programme can survive.

The news comes days before the Libra Association, the group that will oversee the digital currency, prepares to convene its members and ask them to sign a charter agreement. The meeting is slated to take place on Monday in Geneva. A Libra Association spokeswoman said on Friday that the gathering will proceed as planned, and that it would announce the first list of official partners once a formal charter is signed.

Facebook Libra ExitIn a statement, the spokeswoman said the group was “focused on moving forward and continuing to build a strong association” as it worked to create “a safe, transparent, and consumer-friendly implementation of a global payment system that breaks down financial barriers for billions of people”.

When Facebook launched plans for Libra in June, a critical part of its pitch was that major players in the payments and tech industry were supporting it. The cryptocurrency would be run out of Geneva by the organisations that comprised the Libra Association, not solely by Facebook. But now that that alliance appears to be eroding, the project’s future is uncertain.

“I don’t think Facebook can do this by itself,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Securities told Bloomberg TV. “Short of a big bank stepping in like JP Morgan, I don’t think this could ever happen.”

In a tweet on Friday, David Marcus, the Facebook executive spearheading the effort, said that the exit of six partners would not derail the effort. “I would caution against reading the fate of Libra into this update,” he wrote. “Change of this magnitude is hard. You know you’re on to something when this much pressure builds up.”

Whether or not Libra implodes, the exits highlight the extreme challenges that lie ahead for the project, which if successful could have a sweeping impact on the global financial system. “It may very well fail completely,” said Lisa Ellis, an analyst at MoffettNathanson. Even if it survives, progress will take much longer and “it’s likely to fall into some level of obscurity”, she added.

Facebook has faced fierce backlash since the company announced plans for Libra. Politicians and regulators around the world have called on Facebook to halt its progress, and some have suggested Libra could be used for illegal money laundering or trafficking schemes.

Despite the scrutiny from public officials and the exodus of partners, Facebook remains committed to Libra, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified because they were not authorised to speak publicly. Some people inside the company think the defections are partly driven by established payments providers worrying about a new entrant encroaching on their turf, the person said.

In the months since its announcement, Facebook has frequently found itself in the spotlight over the cryptocurrency. Mr Marcus went to Washington in July to testify before Congress about Facebook’s plans. Later this month, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to appear before the House Financial Services Committee to answer even more questions about Libra.
