Romance / Re: Man Marries Man In Ghana by nigerisgreat: 4:18am On Apr 17, 2012 |
This is why Africans will never have democracy. Are there lawyers among you? One the first things I was taught in Law at Legon was the the Wolfenden Report. Rights should be enshrined and protected even if it is against the core of ones beliefs. What is wrong with consenting adults, whose actions never negatively affect any material well being or security of the larger population. Gays don't kill me, gays don't rub citizens of any social contract to the state, gays don't violate young women and other vulnerable members of the society. I just met Kwame Appiah at Princeton, a gay intellectual from Africa, who received the National Humanities Award, the highest civilian intellectual and artistic award, from Obama. I guess we will rather dwell on our prejudices, homophobia, and masculinity to bash Africans who choose to be different. What has getting in line help us as a nation. Go ahead, banish homosexuality, and our problems (corruption, poverty, tribalism, ethnic conflicts, etc) will disappear. Majority of Nigerians are not going celebrate their 50th birthday, and we are thinking about gays? Now, I know why some people will do anything to have 70 virgins in heaven after life. Just tired to edit!!!! 1 Like |

Africans from Nigeria (89.1 percent), Ghana (85.9 percent), Botswana (84.7 percent), and Malawi (83 percent) were the most likely to report having a high school degree or higher. Those born in Cape Verde (44.8 percent) and Mauritania (60.8 percent) were the least likely to report having completed a high school education. Nobody should gloat about it. Firstly, they constitute a very small segment of the population making it statistically insignificant. Secondly, most Africans here are children of elites who can afford to send their wards abroad while they close their eyes to the chronic educational problems at home. Still, I want to say, BRAVO Nigeria!!!!!!! Yes, you are far better than the perception accorded to you. |
Nairaland / General / Re: I Hate The Arrogance Of Nigerians!!! by nigerisgreat: 4:22am On Apr 06, 2012 |
What is wrong with Africans? STOP COMPARING!!!! It is about how rich a country is, or how big it is, or how much resources it has. It is how the nation keeps it social contract. What should citizens expect from their country? Here are my some of tentative points. Is the country able to deliver to its population aspirations such as: Reduction of poverty Access to basic health care Access to education Protection of the most vulnerable-women and children Basic infrastructure for comfort and critical situations Freedom from fear Security Minority protection Civil liberties Responsive elected officials Fair share of distribution of resources with sensitivity to the most vulnerable Efficient public official Progressive attainment to an equitable society where the rich is adjusted and the poor secured Ethnic harmony If any country, be it Ghana or Nigeria, want to win the bragging rights, so be it, but show me the money. Yes US is a great nation, I live here. Personally, I will bat for Norway anytime "t" for putting its citizens first. It is not about Ghana or Nigeria!!! We being pissed on by a few elites who taking billions of dollars of our money, and we fighting about which country is better. I don't which is is sad: any attempt to jump at criticisms or our moral blindness about what is going on. Perhaps, nationality overrides anything. HOW SAD |

Come on guys, Do you really know about IMF and World Bank protocol? It is always a forgone conclusion that a European will head IMF, and an American will head World Bank. What is wrong in campaigning for Sachs, who is the most popular American advocate for Africa among the economists in world? No matter how much we want Ngozi to win, it will not happen: it is such an important position for America to give up that informal right. You guys should be realistic. Has anybody checked on Sachs resume? |

I do not have any problem supporting Ms Ngozi for World Bank. I believe she MAY turn out to be a great advocate. Sachs, in my opinion, is a better choice because of what he has done on the ground and his academic work (Check his writings)on how to solve poverty in Africa. He really has a grasp on issues on development in Africa. Yes, I from Ghana, and yes, I choose Sachs over any developmental economist from Ghana. Wake up guys. this is not about pride, nationality,or ego. We have pressing problems in Africa, and I am willing to support someone from Jupiter, if that person is the best choice. What has any elite from Africa done for us lately. WAKE UP |

Londoner, Don't quit. It is always frustrating, especially from someone from Ghana who does not see eye to eye with you. The bulletin board needs you. I only critize those that I really respect. |

Please don't quite. We need your calming, some times not what someone from Ghana will agree. We need your voice |
Education / Re: Is Unilag Any Better Than Covenant University? by nigerisgreat: 7:59pm On Feb 17, 2012 |
It does not matter how many students get first class. In US, most universities use what is called a straight line formula: 25 percent of the class is given a grade of A. So, twenty five percent of students from an Ivy League university and a very low class college will be the same. A college is rather judge by the quality of students admitted, prestige of faculty members, and the rigor of courses offered. Professors in Africa are very stiff on grades. Anytime I write a recommendation for a student, I make sure to include note stated that the grading system in Africa is very different. I have seen a lot of students with a second lower from Africa who really do very well in America. |
