Personally, those involved in this plan(father, mother, daughter, husband etc) would have considered these consequences and in my opinion does not have lasting implications. I don't recall the need to give details of my divorces etc to anybody else. Since her husband knows the deal then nobody else needs to know or matters.(well now the whole world knows, but so what?)

About him not doing something 30 years ago, foresight is an amazing gift that most mere mortals do not possess. Maybe as someone on the thread suggested, he needed to sort his papers out first or just did not get the correct legal advice or plain and simple did not know.

About the psychological implications for the children, I went to boarding school in Nigeria and was beaten well by teachers, I carried water on my head for miles on end, domestic violence is not new, my dad beat me with koboko if I did something wrong etc, (in modern UK world, I should be psychologically scarred but no , I am riding high and still love, respect and take care of my parents).Whatever the case maybe we are only speculating and should not judge.

In Nigeria. your wife can be given a special immigrant status as a Naija wife. Ask any Naija wives association in Nigeria. After a period she can then get full citizenship, BUT your file go take years to go through the process unless you know the right people!!

At the end of the day they will pass the "settlement" in the form of higher prices to the Nigerian public!! As long as they do not outsell Dangote they will be fine!!

The best advice is to read and graduate quickly from your institution.

Offer tution/coaching to younger students in any subject you feel comfortable and at any level below your present level!!

You can always try starting a laundry service--collect clothes and deliver them washed and ironed. As long as you are cheaper than any local service you are bound to get customers.

Start a hand down book service---where students sell their used books to you and you sell em on to others.  You make a very small commission to arrange this deal and you are sure to succeed if you are not greedy.

Offer to clean other lazy students rooms or digs for a price. You will find a lot of filthy rich spoilt brats willing to use your services. I know of a chap who used to do this till he graduated and bbecamea lecturer in the university. He then used to lecture some of the same lazy brats since they were professional students!!

Should free health care in Government hospitals remain free? 

In the present state where care is free only in name and so much is spent on these Hospitals from our tax, will it not be better to reduce tax for the population and privatise health care ? Privatised healthcare will produce results since the salaries and facilities will be funded from the finances raised by hospitals directly from services provided. They will have to compete with other hospitals to be seen as providing value for service.  If the Hospitals do not make money or provide quality treatment then they will fail and so they will strive to make sure that they provide quality care.

Emergency services should be provided by the hospitals for which the government should give contracts to Hospitals to provide the same. Government will be billed directly by these hospitals and if the Government fails to pay then obviously the Hospitals will stop providing the service. This will ensure that the government will always cough up for the services otherwise they can be held liable by the voters.

Well to start with I think all government cars should be Nigerian made and all government officials including governors and the President with his ministers should use an official car that is Nigerian made. This will ensure that the market is there for the new brand in the country and also the quality will be encouraged as politicians will be using them.

If the price is reasonable compared to the imported brands then this will encourage us all to use the same. Imported cars can be taxed at a higher rate to encourage us to buy Nigerian.

How about a mobile gents hair dressing ( barbers) business?

Get 2 barbers who are good and all you have to do is have fixed days or sessions in government offices and companies and Give workers a haircut at workplace during lunch breaks or if private companies during their free time betwen work?? Investment required is zero!! You only make contacts at the venues and take your barbers who get 50% of wat they charge and u get the rest!! the barbers use their own equipment. if you buy the clippers etc then negotiate to pay them lower percentage and you take a bit more!!

Five days a week means 10 sessions ( a session is morning or afternoon) and that means you can book 10 venues or companies a week. In a month it will be about 40 venues. In each session a barber can attend to about 10 people or more and with two you have 20 plus people being sorted!! Rest of the maths is up to you!!

Should Nigeria not have a car designed and made in Nigeria by Nigerians for NIGERIANS by now? Why can't the government encourage such a venture instead of encouraging importation of cars or assembly lines only!!

My friend, after doing more research, i would have to admit that Western education is waaaaaaay ahead of Asian education, its not even close. Asian schools are only good for just a bachelors. The bachelors program at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or China's Tsinghua University is brutal compared to even MIT or Caltech. But where the drop off starts of is at the graduate level (masters and PhD level) because the Asians are still far behind in the level of research that western schools do. The only research institutes/universities that can compete with western schools are the Israeli schools i listed like the Technion Institute or Weizermann Institute. Sorry for misleading anyone sha, the reason i started it was partly to educate our people that if they couldn't afford to go to the west, instead of going to Ghana why not go to malaysia, singapore or India where you can get a much MUCH MUCH BETTER education.

David, I agree with what you say regarding education at research level--Masters and Doctorate etc. That is why I said  the reason why Asians and Africans come to the west is Research and Financial !! As for professors in both Asia and Nigeria, I have great respect for them as they work with limited resources and facilities. Give them the same as in the west and see what they can do. That is why quite a few top researchers in the west are from Asia and Africa. The government in Ghana funds its universities better but then they have much fewer than Nigeria.Private universities or corporate universities are the answer to funding in Africa and Asia.

Language as a unifying force is quite effective. Should a language be used as the Nigerian National Language/Official Language?? What do you think of PIDGIN ENGLISH as Nigeria's National Language?

I agree Asian Education is better than western --the only reason Asians come to the West is to use their education to earn more rewards--financial and research facilities. Africans do for the same reasons!!

Nigerian education is also very good and you can see the results in the high number of qualified Naija people making it in all subjects in the west. The only problem is the fairly recent downturn of Nigerian Universities ( in the last 12-15 years) due to underfunding by Government. This is however being offset by the private universities coming up in Naija!! They are the future of good quality education in Nigeria. Why spend so much to study in the west when private Universities in Naija are much cheaper and even better!! Asian IT colleges are now opening campuses in Ghana.

Education in Asia and Africa (especially Nigeria and Ghana) is very important to us.

Most western companies even prefer to employ graduates from outside western Universities if they want hardworking researchers.
