By law, Jonathan cannot be president again in Nigeria having been previously sworn in twice as president.

Section 137 says the president cannot be elected more than twice. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has only been elected once. He is legally fit to become president in 2023 cool

The King is back!!!

After suffering for 6 years the masses now know he was a fantastic president, the "owners" of Nigeria know he is the only person with the mass appeal and personality to keep Nigeria one country after Buhari has almost finished it. The international community wants him and would be very supportive of his candidacy.

When I saw the way the crowd cheered and clapped for him when Obasanjo introduced him at Christ Embassy awards I knew that something was up.

Typical ignorant and unintelligent ipob troll.

Who collected N51 Trillion and who spent it? Me or Jona as head of government?

If crooked and corrupt Jona did not collect and spent our oil earnings, doesn't it also means that Buhari is not the one collecting loans?

You see how lame elementary, kindergarten and ignorant you really sound?

There's more to life than trolling at your old ass age.

Once a person enters APC I am sure they collect their brains first...

We don hear, Jonathan collected N51 Trillion and put inside his fedora hat. The Lagos-Ibadan railway line we are seeing and all the other things were paid for with amala and ewa agoyin oil grin grin grin

Deadlytruth:

Southerners were being killed in the North by civilian mobs before independence and not by army officers. So your question doesn't really address mine which is about why Northern army officers killed Ironsi.

Unfortunately, I have opened your link and saw nothing on revenues in any of the schedules. Would you mind being specific about the page it is located? I searched the entire 14 pages line by line and found nothing on your claim that revenue sharing formula was left intact. Please be reminded that we were practising federalism and resource control hence we can't be talking of sharing formula in respect to that period. If sharing formula later came into the picture through Ironsi's decree, then it is a proof that he introduced unitary system that goes with sharing as we currently have it in Nigeria today.
Still expecting the specific mention of the page in question anyway.

Go and read the correct document. The 14 page one is Ironsi's Decree and I'm glad you have admitted unwittingly that there is no reference to revenue. I'm also glad you aren't disputing that Ironsi left the regions untouched. Now check Gowon's own grin abi na dodge you dey dodge as per sacred cow

I'm done tutoring you

Deadlytruth:

If Ironsi actually left the regions 100% the way he met them, i.e. without tampering with them at all? Then why did Northerners kill him only after he made the Unification Decree which was directed at the regional structure? Why didn't Northern soldiers consider toppling and killing him ever before he promulgated Decree 34?

Why have northerners been murdering southerners in the north since before independence?

You don't do research before you post and it shows. Ironsi's Decree 34 created groups of provinces from each of the regions. The decree even retained the old constitutions of each region for the group of provinces. He did not touch the sharing formula either. See a link to download the pdf and learn the truth if you are interested https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://gazettes.africa/archive/ng/1966/ng-government-gazette-supplement-dated-1966-05-24-no-51-part-a.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiC9pnXuYT1AhUB3BoKHSBhD9kQFnoECDkQAQ&usg=AOvVaw2Fb7Ajtfusl2QzqbJ_P0As

But see how your sacred cow Gowon disfigured and tore everything apart. After breaking up the regions and creating states he erased resource control and then opened an account to cater for the costs of running the state government. This is what has continued until today (feeding bottle federalism) Decree 14 & 15

The topic is never buried. That will only happen the day you Ironsi's brothers explain what exactly he meant with those expressions. It had nothing to do with electioneering season. It is all about how Nigeria was derailed into this unworkable structure which even the election of a saint into Aso Rock will not address.

This is the height of mental laziness! Some of you are pathetic beyond belief. Ironsi was in power for just 6 months! 6 months!!! Because of the tribal politics of The Sarduana and Awolowo and Akintola, he suggested centralized system of administration. The north was against that. So Ironsi decided to travel around the country to explain his position to the different regions! He was killed while still doing this. As at the time he was killed, the regions were still functioning in full force, headed ofcourse by indigenes from these areas. Revenue generation and utilization were still following the principles of regionalism... Every practice associated with regionalism was still effective! He was killed for his suggestion by those who ostensibly opposed his ideas.

How come that almost a century after his murder, the same people that killed him and took over the reigns of governance, are still blaming him for all the evil maladministrative hiccups that they have bequeathed to Nigeria? I mean how can you blame a man you killed 60 years ago for your present failures, when you killed him to stop him? Why can't you Yorubas and fulanis accept that with over a trillion dollars oil income, you guys have failed abysmally at the simple task of running a modern society? Why pass the buck? This country is the way it's today not because Ironsi suggested a unitary system that he never lived to practice, but because from the day he was killed, two tribal groups with their retrogressive cultures hyjacked officialdom but failed woefully at running a modern state. Simple.

Don't waste your time with this half baked thread. This topic is extinct and buried like Tinubu's presidential ambition grin A biased person will always see what they want to see regardless of what is in plain sight.

All these sorts of threads always start brewing in the build up to elections grin grin

Confirmed

But why did minorities in other region not have referendum? I will like an answer

You should read this two books written by him, Thoughts on the Nigerian Constitution and path to Nigerian freedom,to have an idea of his mindset. He wanted loose federation where minorities have rights to self rule

I respect your intellectual sagacity and honesty. Awo may have written about minority rights in his book but did not practice it when the chips were down in the Western region.

The north tried to put down the Tiv agitation by force and that's partly what led to the civil war. The eastern minorities too were agitating but I can't say it was so serious. Maybe you have facts to the contrary.
