Education / Re: should i study agric? by noso2004: 9:27pm On Jan 04, 2014
I have last posted on this forum since July, I am compelled to drop my cent here, given the circumstances I would opt for the Agri course, whilst MBBS is almost an ambition for most Nigerian teens, I would not think it twice before accepting the offer for the Agri course, a previous poster claimed "3 farmers in America would feed Nigeria" that's such a childish drivel coming from someone who claimed they studied Bsc Agriculture, 3 American farmers would not feed Lagos state alone how much more the Federation.

If you have done JAMB twice, and have not achieved your aim, why waste further time? Agri course is good because most Nigerians are too naive to see how successful farmers can become, there is less competition in the field, if you have money you could go self employed, if not, you can seek employment.

In New Zealand, and Australia, farming degree and related careers are in the long term skilled shortage list, I do not know about Canada, but I suspect it would be the same, even US, shortage in farming careers is increasingly becoming a global concern, people think it's low paid and career prospect are low etc etc, this give every potential farmer far more opportunities to grow. If I wanted to become a billionaire and I had to to choose between those 2 careers, I would be more inclined to study Agriculture, there is a global shortage in Agriculture. You will be the one to live with whatever decision you make, everything I said is, if I was in similar position of which I'm not. Good luck with decisions, I hope you do what's best for you and your future, and whatever you choose to do I wish you success.

The Spanish government has not just annoyed Morales and Bolivia with its refusal to allow his plane through its airspace. Austrian foreign minister Michael Spindelegger is also annoyed. He reportedly said:

We don´t understand, why Spain is acting like that.

He also maintained that Austrian officials had been on the plane and Snowden was not there. Journalists at the airport had earlier suggested that Austrian authorities could not conclusively attest to Snowden not being on board as the jet's crew were saying no-one had been allowed on to the plane.

Morales said he refused a request by the Spanish authorities' to inspect his plane in Vienna and has not been granted permission to use Spanish airspace, according to Reuters.

12m ago

It appears that Morales's path may not have been cleared after all. Austrian reporter Tanja Malle tweets that at another press conference, this time with Morales and ambassadors from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (Alba), it was said that Spain is still not opening its airspace to his flight.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Bolivian President's Jet Rerouted Amid Suspicions Edward Snowden On Board by noso2004: 9:23am On Jul 03, 2013
Best option would be to refuel in VIE, fly over the Balkans to the mediterranean sea, west over international airspace as much as possible to Africa's west coast, refuel (declaring emergency if needed) in Sénegal, Mauritania, Guinea or Sierra Leone, and then fly accross the stormy Atlantic straight to South America, ideally to Brasil and then Bolivia. Should Brasil and Colombia deny overfly, Venezuela - international airspace - Nicaragua - international airspace - Ecuador - Peru would provide safe passage and refueling. Good thing a Falcon 900 has the legs to do just that.

Amazing this is going on... Let's see if the "leader of the free world" (haha) does not end indeed "scrambling jets" to catch a sovereign nation's presidential plane. We shall see.

Morales ready to leave Austria

Austrian President Heinz Fischer said at a press conference at Vienna airport:

The flight route is normal, as far as I am informed. Spain's airspace is also open for him. (Morales) will resume his trip shortly,

#Morales and everyone ready for takeoff, will leave #Vienna soon - stated in press conference right now

Audio has been posted purporting to be of the conversation between a pilot aboard Morales's flight and the control room at Vienna airport.

Although the Guardian cannot 100% verify the audio, it comes from a source who has a track record of monitoring aviation communications. (In this 2011 article, Huub, also known online as “BlackBox” and @FMCNL, is described as a former member of the Dutch military who has been monitoring radio frequency scanners, amplifiers, and antennas for more than 25 years.)

Part of the conversation goes:

“Do you need any assistance?”

“Not at this moment. We need to land because we cannot get a correct indication of the fuel indication...we need to land.”

This problem might indicate why Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca accused France and Portugal of putting the president's life at risk by cancelling authorisation for the plane. But it is hard to believe that those countries would have refused permission to land if a problem was reported.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Bolivian President's Jet Rerouted Amid Suspicions Edward Snowden On Board by noso2004: 8:44am On Jul 03, 2013
Austria allowed Morales's plane to land because it had no fear that that Snowden might be on board, an Austrian foreign ministry spokesman told ORF radio. He said:

Austria did not close its airspace and the plane could of course land although many other countries apparently feared that Snowden was on board too. Austria did not do that, which means there is no fear here.

Austrian officials have said that Snowden is not on board. But a journalist on the ground said that it was impossible for them to ascertain this, as, according to the plane crew, they were not allowed to enter the jet (as a presidential plane they can restrict access).

Rafael Correa, the president of Ecuador, has also railed against what he called an "affront to our America," and called on his fellow South American presidents to "take action".

Posting on Twitter, Correa wrote: “Decisive hours for UNASUR! Either we graduated from the colonies, or we claim our independence, sovereignty and dignity. We are all Bolivia!”

Correa said he was trying to convene a UNASUR meeting with other South American leaders.

True, but the Yanks wouldn't have dared pulled this stunt had it been the Chinese President on the place.

Hell, they wouldn't have even tried this on with Putin. They probably just thought the Bolivian President was a bit of a pushover and not particularly important.

I hope they are proved wrong

Don't get side tracked by weak European governments that submit to pressure, the real villain in this is the US Government that has been spying on its own citizens and that of the world under the guise of securing the country against terrorism . IMHO the US Government brought 9/11 on themselves due primarily to their disastrous foreign policy. John Kerry's recent remarks that Snowden's disclosures could result in someone being killed are ridiculous - just like they tried to blame Julian Assange. If someone gets killed, its not because of either Snowden or Assange but because of the US Government. I used to think quite highly of the US but not any more. I think that I will now try to avoid buying US products as much as possible.

Disgraceful actions from an ever desperate and embarassed US government. Not surprised at the spineless French chipping in too.

If the US catches Snowden, that might be the final blow to any semblance of democracy anywhere in the world. Everyone needs to boycott the companies and countries collaborating to the fullest extent possible. One place to start is to give up on the USD
Foreign Affairs / Re: Bolivian President's Jet Rerouted Amid Suspicions Edward Snowden On Board by noso2004: 7:15am On Jul 03, 2013
Our Washington bureau chief, Dan Roberts, has been assessing the potential fallout from the diplomatic row over the diversion of Morales's flight to Vienna. He writes:

Though the White House declined to confirm whether it ordered Western European allies to block the diplomatic flight containing Bolivia's president, the affair casts further doubt on promises made by Barack Obama that the US would "not scramble jets" to retrieve the whistleblower who has brought so much embarrassment upon his administration.

When the issue first threatened to overshadow delicate relations with major powers such as China and Russia, the US president went out of his way to stress that he would not expend political capital on "wheeling and dealing" just to bring a 29-year-old hacker to justice. Whether he was setting expectations low for the likelihood of Snowden's capture, or genuinely trying to put the issue in proportion remains unclear, but events since have shown the White House is willing to act far tougher with smaller nations who might contemplate rebellion.

First, Washington successfully leant on Ecuador to reverse it's support for Snowden's asylum claim. Congressional leaders threatened to revoke valuable trade agreements and then vice president Joe Biden followed up with a more diplomatic phone call that led to a marked change in tone from Ecuador's president.

My colleague Helen Davidson has spoken to Tanja Malle, an Austrian broadcast journalist who is at Vienna international airport and who tweeted photos of president Morales there earlier.

She says that Morales, the defence minister and the rest of the plane's crew have gone into the VIP area of the airport.

Here are Tanja's updates:

Most of the crew are now inside a [separate] room with Morales...

The crew said the are looking forward to leaving. They were told... hours ago that it would only take minutes.

Morales didn't say anything. He was sitting on the couch next to the defence secretary, who was very angry. The rest of the Bolivians are just tired. They do not seem to be in a bad mood or anything.

Here is the full audio:

We have translated more tweets from Argentinian president, Cristina Kirchner. She says she is in regular contact with Morales and has expressed outrage at the ongoing diplomatic incident.

The president said she had spoken to Morales on the phone, and offered legal assistance.

According to the Guardian’s translations, Kirchner said “if Austria does not let them out or wants to check the plane, he can present to the International Court of Justice to ask for a preliminary injunction.”

“I don’t know whether to laugh or cry,” she continued, adding that they can send a judge to Austria.

“Mother of God! What a world!” she exclaimed.

Kirchner said she had spoken to Uruguay president José Mujica who was “indignant” at the “humiliating situation”, and she agreed.

Kirchner said she will also speak again with president Rafael Correa of Ecuador.

Politics / Nigerian Diplomats Rack Up £70MIL Bill After Refusing To Pay Congestion Charge by noso2004: 9:32pm On May 16, 2013
Making up the top five are the Nigerian high commission on £4 million and the German embassy, which owes £3.8 million.

The congestion charge, which brings in around £110 million a year, currently costs £10 and is active in certain areas of London from 7am to 6pm on weekdays.

For the £70 million owed by embassies, TfL could employ 3,000 bus drivers for a year or pay for 368 double-decker buses.

Go to Germany and see Frankfurt and Cologne, you will like the Cologne cathedral (Dom), beautiful view from the cathedral (Dom) downwards the station and also the river Rhine, very beautiful city.

Please don't spend much time in Parish or London, very drab and ugly scenes await you in those places. You should also see Zurich lovely city, Barcelona Central top place, I like the Spanish Metro.

Go to Sweden, take a train journey via the Scania strait Amager to Denmark (Oresung Bridge). Good value for money, I haven't been there my friends that went is planning another trip.

France has some very lovely cities too, what seems attractive to me might not be to you, you should check google pictures in advance. Have a good trip

Litmus:

Oh then, it must be my misunderstanding. I thought your argument was one based on the simplistic notion that corruption is the cause of the relative poverty of Nigerians.

BTW

Please, for all you who believe that corruption is the root cause of every ill in Nigeria, note that the cause of my poor education in Nigeria was not due to anyone's corruption, the fault lies primarily with me and those immediately around me.

Don't erroneously accept responsibility for something you haven't done simply because you are trying to change the perspective of a country's people and or make a point.

The fact is that, corruption, substandard education, greed, and so many things is associated to Nigeria's failure, of which corruption is the bedrock of these calamities either you accept it or not is entirely up to you. They have just had election in Malta in which a party that has not been in power for more than a decade has just been re-elected back into power, The elected prime minister during the campaign promised to abolished immunity for anyone in government as it's presence does nothing other than encourage everyone and anyone to be involved with corruption.

Do you know of any major country and or democratic one for that matter, that has immunity for anyone in government? It is shocking however, that you know so much than the average Nigerians who understand their suffering and know corruption is a major problem standing in the way of developing Nigeria.

I am not emotionally affected perhaps one could say in the past I have been, it's got absolutely nothing to do with me the state of the country, one thing for sure though; we will only experience change when people of your thinking are at a record low in the community.
Politics / Re: Abuja - The City Beautiful (Pictures) by noso2004: 11:10am On Apr 17, 2013
@ Litmus. Could you point out where in my post I assumed infrastructure to be the bedrock of honesty and transparency? North Korea as expected would be below in Nigeria in the league table of corrupt countries of course why is that surprising to you?
A quick google research will educate you of the suffering of the people of North Korea.

I am not surprised by you, it seems you have only learned about North Korea simply because the threat of them starting a nuclear war with the south has been popping up on your television screen recently, for someone as knowledgeable as you claimed, to use North Korea as yardstick with Nigeria is quite alarming; I will not go on to educate you as to why we should have never been put on the same standard of measurement with this poverty riddled country, if you are so interested as to why you should look it up yourself.

How could anything be fascinating about North Korea to a Nigerian? You have lost track not just now but long before now, and there we go, using Zimbabwe as a bedrock of infrastructure which equate to honesty and transparency.

You have so been brainwashed to even understand what happens right in front of your nose is a major difficulty, I am not surprised by that, you seems like someone have been educated with the less priviledge and you have never been taught how to reason and research for things independently.

I have visited countries with almost no infrastructures and with a very high standard of living, that is what am talking about, that is what matters to an average Nigerian. You are a waste of my time to be honest
