Travel / Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Nyenyenwq(m): 11:10pm On Jan 30, 2022
I tap from this testimony for my husband's own. The wait is killing God should show us mercy oh, we are students and need maximum support we could get from our spouses
Kenon1:
PPR Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SOWP and daughter’s study permit application approved in 65 days!
It can only be God!!!
It has finally ended in praise o!
Come and join me sing hallelujah, Jehovah Jireh has done me well.
I am super-duper excited to drop my story here because it is a dream come through against so many odds after about 11 years. At some point, I only come to Nairaland to read other people’s testimonies and after reading, I will share with my wife believing that one day we will share ours to the glory of the awesomely awesome great God with whom nothing is impossible.
When it appeared that the door of express entry was shut at us due to age consideration and our SINP application came back to us ineligible after about 9 months of waiting, it was as if we had come to the end of the road and it was very painful. We had a choice to throw in the towel and quit (…but we realized that winners never quit). Then we decided to reconsider the study route which we never thought as an option because of its huge cost implications.
As God would help us, my wife got an admission into MSVU on 14th December, 2020 and her study permit was approved on 10th September, 2021. She couldn’t travel until 29th December, 2021 because of Omicron with its attendant unexpected “apartheid” travel ban.
Now, as the SOWP & study permit application journey started, the burning question was whether we should submit my SOWP & daughter’s study permit application without my wife’s study permit and SIN while she had not started lectures and was still in Nigeria and send them later via webform when she lands in Canada or wait until she lands in Canada and gets her study permit and SIN before my SOWP and daughter’s study permit application will be submitted. There were varied answers to the question above. But we prayerfully submitted our application on 18/11/2021 with wife’s study permit approval letter and without her study permit and SIN.
My wife travelled to Canada on 29/12/2021, and her study permit and SIN with Student ID card, school fees receipt and updated enrolment letter showing full time student (because the one we submitted application with had “part time” student) were sent to IRCC via webform & e-mail on 20/01/2022. Thereafter, I sent an enquiry on the status of my medical examination to IRCC via webform & e-mail on 21/01/2022. There was not specific reply from them except the generic auto response emails.
To my greatest wonderment and pleasant shock, when I logged in to check my e-mail on Saturday (afternoon), 22/01/2022, I saw three donotreply@cic.gc.ca messages from IRCC (one with my daughter’s application number and two with my application number). I was apprehensive (should I open it or not). Torrent of messages flooded my mind. But when I finally mustered courage to it, lo and behold, God has given us “an earlier than expected miracle” of the beautiful golden PPR emails for my daughter and I.
In view of the crazy SOWP current processing time of 61 weeks, my heart “cut” and I was tempted to apply for visitor visa via the new IRCC portal. In fact, I started the visitor visa application and everything was almost ready for submission. But I said to myself, since my wife travelled to Canada on 29/01/2021 that I would wait till 31/01/2022 by then she would have been one month in Canada and if there’s no tangible update on the SOWP application, I would hit the ‘’SUBMIT’’ button for the visitor visa application. But God is bigger than my doubts and worries.

Sure, you can travel with the condition
shams040:
Please those that have traveled ooo. I need your assistance. My school gave me a conditional offer upon sending my transcript both MSC and Bsc. I have sent that of MSC but Bsc is yet to get to them. The condition is that if I don't send the all these documents I will not be able to register.

However, I told them about the difficulties I'm facing with OAU sending transcript and the my adviser said they should allow me register for fall but I need to get it to them before winter. Now my questions is will the immigration allow me to fly to Canada with this condition?

I know I need to show an enrollment letter which I am yet to get, so I want to know you guys advise. Most especially those that have traveled or know more about it.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Finally I got back my passport yesterday after over a month. Vfs office Lagos dealt with me in particular that at a point I started calling village people. I didn't get any tracking ID neither did I get any mail from VfS. Also, I was unable to speak with their customer care rep. It ended in praise after all the stress. Please who knows if one can quarantine in an airbnb and if yes, please how can one pay from Nigeria. Anyone going to or already in Usask, please where did you quarantine? I have less than 3 days to plan for this. Thank you all. For the hopefuls, I pray that all your wishes be fulfilled. Amen

Please someone is tensed already oh. I submitted my passport to vfs via DHL on the 10th of November and up till now I have not gotten any tracking ID number. On the 28th November, I got my counterfoil and LOI in my GC key. I have been wondering why vfs would have only one contact number cos you hardly reach them in phone, same with their web chat. Please oh who else is in my shoe?. What other option do I check or what line of action do I take abeg?

Please how did you get these people on phone? It keeps saying the number is not available or busy. Finally I got them but entered automatic reply and after the whole pressing of numbers to direct me to a representative the call just ended on its own. I submitted mine since first week of November, no mail at all. I'm tired oh

Thanks. I called again this morning and finally got a tracking ID. Passport still at embassy.

Yes, I have also seen people who got their study permit approved with no extra statement of account submitted asides the full funding letters. Someone even with less than 300k SOA got medical request and AIP. Everyone's case can't be the same. All you need to do is pray and do the best you can.
fratermathy:

I am talking as a fully funded PhD student who is acquainted with the PhD funding dynamics of the Humanities and Social Sciences in North America. Guaranteed funding offers are binding till the end of the offer duration, hence the word "guaranteed". They will not be rescinded or reduced except the student loses studentship or some serious economic catastrophe happens. So what you're saying is that funding is rescinded on account of lack of progress with research and my counter argument is that funding is not actually rescinded for that but rather, studentship is lost and with it, the funding. Failure to thrive in graduate school doesn't implicate only funding but studentship and one cannot leave while the other remains.

No one will take away guaranteed funding offered except the condition for that offer is no more and in almost all instances, the condition for that offer is to maintain active full-time student status. To maintain active student status means to work towards your degree. In essence, they won't rescind funding just because you have a little setback for a semester, for instance. However, if the setback progresses into stagnation and failure to meet the necessary degree milestones, the person loses studentship entirely and with it, the funding offer.

On the issue of study permit refusal with funding, it is quite rare for that to happen but even when it does happens, the reason is not because of financial capacity but more like home ties, academic progression, and other allied reasons. When it is because of finance, then it may be tied to insufficient funds, especially if the tuition is so high that the balance drops to less than C$10,000 per year. I've seen people get visas with full funding and a personal account balance of just N100,000. No kidding.

Since it appears we are both talking from experience, let's not argue over this. Experiences can indeed change the way we see things. All experiences are not the same and the essence of exchanges like this is for others to see the broader picture and adapt accordingly despite the diversity of experiences.

Hello everyone, please is their any need for someone to upload a document or letter of support from one's spouse (Husband) showing that he is in full support of the wife's schooling, program and travelling. Someone told me about it and would like the gurus to help me out with it. I have no idea how it will be written if that is necessary.

[i fall in that category of people that didn't really submit a fat bank statement cos I already got full funding from my supervisor via his grant plus extra full funded scholarship from my school for my PhD. Yes, I did my best and I pray for the best outcome. quote author=ndoeyopbennet post=90804531]

Thank you. This was the point I was making. If you have the money to fatten you account, please, by all means, do so. If you don't, you shouldn't worry. You'll be fine. As long as the funding is genuine and from within Canada, you'll get approved. Just focus on other things that can cause rejection such as home ties or prospects. You are always expected to convince the VO that you are a genuine student, with or without funding.
Considering submitting extra documents as proof of funding for students already got full funding either from his or her supervisor's grant of scholarships, I don't think you need to submit a fat bank account. Someone I know didn't even bother submitting any bank statement, she only submitted the funding letters she got and she got approved. People are actually saying that you must submit your personal bank account to show you have no ey for flight and itinerary, mind you there are some that even the flight ticket, airport pickup and accommodation is already taken care of by your supervisor from the grant. Just do your best, pray and keep believing for the best outcome!... People from very poor background and who has nobody to even beg for money to supplement the little they have can't kill themselves over showing proof of funds when they already have full funding

Hello house, I have a friend who has been worried about how to provide his proof of fund documents. He's 28 years, married and due to financial constraints was keen to source for funds. He was able to secure admission for PhD with funding from his supervisor that covers all his expenses including tuition and still has change. He also got another scholarship from faculty and this equally covers all expenses and tuition so he's left with enough money after offsetting all bills.
Note: the funding letter issued to him by the supervisor came from a well known Research Lab and was told to apply for study permit with the letter.

Question: He doesn't have another proof of fund. Can the two documents serve as his proof of funding. Please he needs a reply. Thank you very much all

You can Google it. I did my school search first by finding the names of universities in canada, I found out the affordable schools too and separated them (yes I was meticulous enough cos I was targeting full funding and scholarships, I got an 80 leaves for my school and supervisor search). When I got the schools listed out, I started the course /school search proper by making use of this for e.g University of Manitoba/estate management /Master of Science. Even if they offer the course but has a different name for it, it will be shown. I did this school/supervisor search for close to 6 months and finally it paid off. I got a full funded admission plus scholarship that covers all my expenses and tuition fee
Good day guys, please can any one recommend a canadian university that offere msc in estate managent or any related course?
Hello gurus in the house, Please I am a little bit confused. I applied for a PhD program in U of S in Canada, got my official offer letter with scholarship (Covers my living expenses and tuition) and in addition I got a full funding from my supervisor's grant (also covers my living expenses and tuition fee). Please can i attach just the two documents as my proof for funding since they both cover my living expenses, tuition fee and every other need for money. Thank you all
NB: I dont have any sponsor and that was why i sourced for scholarships and full funding. I have about 300k in my personal account and that is all I have.
