Politics / Re: National Theatre To Spend N22m On Typewriters -LMAO by odim123(m): 7:06pm On Sep 25, 2012
allahisevil:

http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/35599/2012/09/25/national_theatre_spend_n22m_typewriters.html

In the 21st century when most of the world’s typewriter manufacturing companies have long closed shops, the National Theatre is spending a whopping sum of N22.8 million to purchase the few remaining ones.

Demand for the machines has sunk in the last 10 years as consumers switch to computers.

LEADERSHIP checks showed that typewriters are at the end of their line as most of the world’s typewriter manufacturers have closed down their plants or converted to other lines of productions.

The last standing typewriter factory in the world, Godrej and Boyce, is closing its plant in Mumbai, India. What remains are just several hundred typewriters, most of which are Arabic language models.

Although typewriters became obsolete years ago in the west, they were still common in India - until recently, reported the Daily Mail.

Typewriter sales have plummeted in the past several years: the company sold fewer than 800 machines in 2010, down from the 50,000 it produced every year in the 1990s.

“From the early 2000s onwards, computers started dominating. All the manufacturers of office typewriters stopped production, except us,” general manager Millind Dukle told the Business Standard. “We are not getting many orders now. But this might be the last chance for typewriter lovers. Now, our primary market is among the defence agencies, courts and government offices.”

Another one of Godrej and Boyce’s typewriter plants in Shirwal was shut down recently and is now used as a refrigerator manufacturing unit.

In the face of this development, the National Theatre provided for N22.8 million in its 2012 budget for the purchase of typewriters.

The item, which comes under the heading “Purchase of fixed assets – general” has other items as purchase of office furniture and fittings, purchase of photocopying machines, purchase of fire-fighting equipment as well as purchase of recreational facilities.

Kabir Yusuf, general manager, National Theatre, when asked about the item exclaimed, “Who uses typewriters these days?” He however said the money was for writing equipment.

When asked to shed more light on what he meant, he said the sub-head typewriter is the budget template under which there are other items, which he would not mention.

if islam stands for peace, then whats all these verses doing in your quran, why did allah command you to kill infidels:

Quran (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]... but if they desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Quran (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things."

Quran (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not."

Quran (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help."

Quran (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority". This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be 'joining companions to Allah').

Quran (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward." The martyrs of Islam are unlike the early Christians, led meekly to the slaughter. These Muslims are killed in battle, as they attempt to inflict death and destruction for the cause of Allah. Here is the theological basis for today's suicide bombers.

Quran (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"

Quran (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks."

Quran (4:95) - "Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-"

Quran (4:104) - "And be not weak hearted in pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer pain, then surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain..." Is pursuing an injured and retreating enemy really an act of self-defense?

Quran (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.

Quran (8:15) - "O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them. (16)Whoso on that day turneth his back to them, unless maneuvering for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's end."

Quran (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah"

Quran (8:57) - "If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember."

Quran (8:59-60) - "And let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can outstrip (Allah's Purpose). Lo! they cannot escape. Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy."

Quran (8:65) - "O Prophet, exhort the believers to fight..."

Quran (9:5) - "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them."

Quran (9:14) - "Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace..."

Quran (9:20) - "Those who believe, and have left their homes and striven with their wealth and their lives in Allah's way are of much greater worth in Allah's sight. These are they who are triumphant." The "striving" spoken of here is Jihad (Arabic).

Quran (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

Quran (9:30) - "And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!"

Quran (9:38-39) - "O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter. Unless ye go forth, He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place." This is a warning to those who refuse to fight, that they will be punished with Hell.

Quran (9:41) - "Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if yed

But I heard they kill both Muslims and Christians from other tribes... And Northern Muslims don't like their Southern counterparts - so the issue in Northern Nigeria is more than just a religious thing...[/quote

no,that not true;i served in the north. I am not painting the north black, not at all. Infact,it is a place to be,but the problem is their religion crisis. U know it is very difficult to separate their politics from there religion. So,whenever there crisis begins, political or religious, the christians suffer. U can see that in the last general election when all the churches were burnt just becoz pdp won.

I'm not taking sides - I'm speaking the truth!!

I know I might be beheaded in the North for being Yoruba and a free thinker, just as they behead Muslims from other tribes... grin The madness in Northern Nigeria isn't about religion, but their hatred for other tribes... However, I'll never step a foot in Northern Nigeria - just as I won't go near any part of the world where they don't like black people... grin

Your rant just shows how ignorant you're!!

guy, nobody will behead u in the north for being a yoruba or an ibo, especilly if u are a muslim,u will even be liken the more .i ve bin there and i lived there for a while. But as a christian or a free thinker as u claim to be,abeg just dey enjoy ur freedom here. Nothing,of course, will happen to u on a good day,but when their religiouz madness starts,ur best friend will the first to call for ur head

If I were a Muslim - I would've said that long time ago... I'm not ashamed of anything, and you can see from my signature and profile info. that I flaunt everything about me with pride, despite the negativity attached to them...

I can't deny Muslims and their belief system, just as I can't deny Christians and their belief system... I've got people in my family who practice both belief systems - and taking sides isn't something I'm interested in, it's foreign to me...

If the topic were to be about how "Islam is the only religion that would save the world, or Islam is the best religion/belief system." Best believe I would be the first to talk about all the ills in Islam and show Muslims that their belief system is fundamental flawed, just as other Abrahamic faiths(I've done that in the past on NL and would do it again)...

But this topic isn't about that, it's about the malicious covert war waged against Islam and its followers by the West, on the premise of cultural superiority.... I'm a pseudo-liberal/Africanist/agnost/Ancient cosmology guy but still a Christian(I was born a Christian and my family is a devoted one) - and I believe people should be allowed to practice whatever belief system they want to practice.... No culture/belief system is superior, period...

It's a free world!!

nice and intelligent post;i will quickly nail u to the cross with ur last statement-its a free world.if truely it is,why then is som1 seeking for the head of the producer? Why was the us ambasador murdered, when they know he knew nothing about the production of the film. I dont supot d production of the film, neither will any christian doz,but what we are condemin is their uncivilizd reaction to the film.

Jamilu1984: When ever u see a movie insultn prophet isah alaihissalam, it is the work of jews or infidels like u. coz u dnt respect ur religion, u dnt respect jesus either. muslim will never insult prophet isah bcoz we knw who he is, we love him as we love prophet muhammad. let assume ur parents are dead long ago and u love them so much. how will u feel if i insult them in ur present, how will u act? i knw u'll feel like punchn ma face. so, for ur information, loving Allah, loving our prophets, loving our parents, protectn there dignity is part of our religion. islam is a religion of peace we respect our religion more than our lives. shame on the soul that dnt respect its religion.

[quote author=mrrock]This is simple English.
By saying South Africa is our big brother the minister is not implying South Africa is our senior. This is just a diplomatic gesture meaning more like saying a partner. If Ghana delegation arrive Nigeria today he can also say Ghana is our big brother. And if he travels to South Africa the same may be said of Nigeria over there. It's no big deal.[/quote

ok,in other words, one needs to call a cow uncle because they need to chew some beef. I see your point.

dedeike: Mr president, I believe you. And I have never been ashamed nor afraid to say it.
You are bringing something new and refreshing to governance. Under your watch, we are beginning to experience new frontiers in the art of governance.

We are beginning to see openness and transparency at its peak. Before you came, NNPC and allied oil agencies were ran like secret cults. No body knew how much was paid as subsidy or the faces behind importation. Subsidy payments were drawn as first line charge, no appriopration whatsoever. Today, we have not only seen the faces of the cabal but we have seen them being dragged to court. Your govt has given us the first comprehensive legislation on Energy sector as PIB. Your govt is repairing our refineries and executed PPP with Vulcan for 6 new ones.

You are reforming poower. Refurbishing power plants and pursuing privatisation of PHCN. In one year, you have recorded an all time high generation of 4,477 megawatts as evidenced in the links below

You are renovating all our major international airports with Enugu shut down completely for overhaul, domestic wing of Abuja airports too. The works include massive upgrade of runways and all airport facilities.

You are sanitizing our ports, withdrawing 9 parasitic agencies from the wharfs thereby easing the clearing of goods
You are starting 9 new federal universities in one year, 2 law school campuses in Yola and Yenogoa, increased funding to 400 billion, setting up Almajiri school systems, settled all outstanding issues with ASUU thereby reducing strikes. Upgrade of lectures retirement age from 65 to 70.
Minimum wage increment for workers and corpers.

Spearheading Agricultural reforms and fertilizer redistribution and the cassava initiative which is largely misunderstood by the unintelligent.
reviving our railways. Commenced phase II of the Lagos- Kano. With Abuja-Kaduna at 30% ongoing.

Through your minister of finance, you re entrenching fiscal discipline and insisting that all projects must pass through due process causing corrupt politicians to threaten impeachment.
They say you should have implemented 100% a budget that was only passed in April all because you insist that the era of racketeering with constituency projects are gone.
