Abagworo: I hate everything cart on the roads including barrow pushers. The ban should be extended to Port Harcourt ASAP. Nigeria is gradually changing. The use of Okada is now history in most major cities, next is cart pushing before hawking.
As they are being banned, so is the crime rate of armed robbery and kidnapping rising as well. You ban okada rider and stop him from making a living without providing alternative platform for him to sustain his life, he turns to armed robber at night, surely he must survive by hook or crook !!! See no nation rises faster than the level of development and economic empowerment of the masses. An adage says until the poor man is kept out of hunger, the rich man will never sleep peacefully. So Lagos can ban all the" bannables" for all I care, but it doesn't change our shocking statistics that more than 70 % of Nigerians live below poverty line.

The heart of man indeed is desperately evil, this finds expression in the heart of an average Nigerian of today. I see comments by leaders of tomorrow justifying kidnap of an 82 year old woman that had laboured for Nigeria as a teacher/ professor. Is kidnap not a vice anymore? Why do we ve many pple with double standards here? Kidnapin is only a crime depending on the victim, not so Wicked and heartless generation. Generation groping in darkness, I bet you the corruption we accuse this generation of leaders of will be childs play compared to what will happen when this generation of men and women in the 20s and 30s take over leadership, I swear going by what I see and read daily , they will sell for the price of chewing gum. A generstion that justifies murder depending on who the victim is. I saw pple on social network on the day of Dana crash jubilating that some pple from a particular part of Nigeria where majority of the victims, honestly I wept for Nigeria, I ve never visited that social site again. Today its jubilation that an 82 year old is in the trunk of a car, forced there by generation she had probably thought in school to be decent and build Nigeria. What is there to celebrate that an 82 year old may be made to sleep on a bare floor in a thick forest in cold december night? This is what demonised hearts are rationalising here on nairaland because she is Ngozi's mum. I weep for the destiny of this nation, tearing up........

Francuiz: Injustice at its peak. God help 9ja
Injustice to who? It worries me to hear Nigerians talk this way!!! It is wicked, insensitive to the families of scores of lives that were brutally cut short by the bombing of October 10 2010. The purported letter, which I have sieved and found to be a fifth columnist write up using psuedo name of Charles has not denied their participation in the bombing that took lives of poor Nigerians, it letter was only stating the motives behind the bombing, how they re being prosecuted for refusing to rope in some people in Nigeria and the demand that all terrorists like him in Kuje should be treated alike !!! We should allow the dead to negotiate with the dead. Charles' hands are dripping in blood of innocent people he murdered with his brother, and I can't find any excuse to justify that.
Politics / Re: Charles Okah Prison Letters. by odumdesmond: 1:54pm On Dec 09, 2012
If you are intelligent enough, you would discover that that purported letter could not have emanated from a man in solitary confinement that claims he has been confined to darkness and no form of contact to the world outside his prison cell. How did he know what transpires outside, how come he was even quoting people verbatim? Did you not notice he was distorting facts?did you also notice has was stating events a man in solitary confinements couldn't ve been aware of, giving accurate names, time, date and events. Who told him Dasuki is now NSA? Did he attend same secondary school with Cardinal John Onayikan? Where? I know whereas Onayikan schooled at Kabba in Kogi state, Charles and Henry his brother couldn't have also schooled there, between him and Henry who is older? The letter claims Henry is his younger brother, but we all know that is white lie. Its only a low brain that will accept that crap of a letter hook line n sinker!

I don't knwo what forms the basis of the plea by Mr Olusanya, I also know that like the op said, ecclestiastcal institutions, Corporative societies, Educational institutions (not set up as business ventures) are exempted from tax. Perhaps FIRS had accessed the school and found out they were huge profit making ventures. If Covenant university was to tasked, the question will be , what profit does it make, because u only pay tax on profit made, if u didn't make profit, you are not bound to pay tax. An institution that is being run with subvention from the church cannot be made to pay tax.
Religion / Re: You Are In A Wrong Church If You Notice These Signs by odumdesmond: 5:12pm On Dec 08, 2012
Continuation. 6. When the church does not believe in speaking in tongues or prophecy, miracles, signs and wonders: Jesus said these signs shall follow them tha know me, in my name shall heal the sick, raise the dead, cast ou demons etc. When God's people praise God well, naturally people must speak in tongue when the holy spirit moves in their midst. Tongue speakin and prophecy manifests the working of the spirit of God, if ur church does not believe or encourage it, please flee. 7. Where the message is not soul searching or inspiring: when you hear the raw word of God, your soul is deeply touched. If you don't, u re starved, your soul is seeking for deeper revealations and truth from its creator and its only in genuine church you can get that. 8. Where the church does not believe in nor administer holy communion regularly : communion is made up of the blood and body of christ. Jesus said that he who does not eat of or drink of his body and blood has no life in him and is not part of him. If your church does not recognise this please run for your life. 9. Where the church does not believe in Baptism by immersion. John baptised by immersion(total dipping into water as opposed to pouring water on the head of a baby) Jesus was baptised by immersion when he was around 30yrs. Water baptism is not for kids, its a formal initiation into christainty and must be done with full informed consent which a baby cannot give. If your church does not baptise believer by immersion or baptise kids, please flee. 10. When the lifestyle of your pastor / priest is contrary to biblical standards: Why allow a priest or pastor that is alcoholic, drug addict, fornicator , womaniser etc to be spiritual head over you. Flee or he will pollute your destiny with his dirty lifestyle. Also when a priest is livin in abject poverty flee, otherwise who does he prove his God is better than a juju priest. Its a case of physician heal thyself. If he is genuinely serving God that blessed, why is he living in penury like a witch doctor ?
Religion / You Are In A Wrong Church If You Notice These Signs by odumdesmond: 4:35pm On Dec 08, 2012
1. Where the church does not teach nor believe in Jesus name, holy spirit, blood of Jesus. 2. Where the Church does not believe in the principle of tithing: God in Malachi 3:10 said, shall a man rob God? You rob Me in tithes and you are cursed with a curse. Therefore a genuine church will not allow her members to be cursed by God for refusing to pay their tithe. If you are in such place, please flee otherwise you are in the congregation of the accursed. 3. Where the church does not teach holiness and salvation at every gathering/meeting: holiness is the foundation of Christain heavenly race. 4. Where the pastor/ priest or Bishop or Overseer is single: except in a case of a widower one qualification to mount pulpit to preach as a priest is that you must be married. Priesthood is not for single men or celibates, otherwise if you choose celibacy, then evangelist like apostle Paul , Timothy etc not priesthood suits you. It was recommended in the bible that a Bishop/ priest shall be a husband of one wife so he can use his family as an example of godly living. How can a single man teach married couples about marriage( a sacred and delicate institution by God) what doe he know about family life and upbringing of kids, the vicissitudes and highs and lows of marriage and several other issues his flock will bring to him for spiritual advice?. 5. . Where the church was founded by( disobedient) breakaway from another church.: Study the origin of your church or founder to know how the church came about. Was your pastor called by God or did he breakaway from another church due to disobedience or inability to subject himself to validly godly authority. Many churches today sadly came as a result of some squabbles in a church leading to breakaway by a priest to found his own church. Close example is Pastor Itua Ighodalo former Redeemed Church pastor that refused the instruction of his spiritual father Adeboye regarding not getting married to a second wife while his first is stil alive. He was derobed as a pastor by Adeboye and rather than obeying discipline, he brokeaway with members to open a new church. I don't want to jusge but from scriptural standards he is a disobedient man as long as he continues to live under the disobedience to authority of his spiritual father, he is accursed man and his followers may join him in sharing his curse. To be Continued.

striktlymi:

Good morning,
I really do think he has a right to his own opinion but the question still remains:

1) In the year he mentioned was the church as affluent as it is today?

2) When he gave all his salary to God, how did he feed and if he was fed by the members is it not the same as collecting salary; afterall the salary comes from the members contributions?

3) If the University was not built with the money of his church members, where did the money come from. We know certainly that God did not come down from heaven to build the school.

4) Even if the school was built using money from God knows where, is this a justification for some of the members not to be able to afford the tuition?

Please, I am not trying to discredit him but since he has decided to speak up, it's about time I asked the questions too. There are more questions but they would be too controversial. Let's make do with the ones above.

Thank you!
Is Covenant University really expensive compared to quality of facilities and teaching going on there? Baze University , Abti American Uni Yola, etc charge excess of N1.5 million yet cannot compete with Covenant. Igbinedion University, Afe Babalola Uni etc charge way above btw 450-600k that Covenant charges, why are they not dishing similar quality as Covenant? See, University education is expensive, all Federal University students are subsidized annually by Fed Govt to the tune of about 300-400k in form grants and hundreds of millions of monthly subventions, they also get research grants, get ETF /TET fund interventions . Private unis get no dime, so how do they survive? Covenant is charging that low fee because according to Prof Obayan, the church stil gives it subvention for running. People shud stop complaining, how much does school fees even by local student in Ghana universities cost? What of Europe and America? Is Covenanat supposed to be because church has poor members? Well let them take opportunity of their brains and get scholarship, the school offers that too.

I heard him say exactly those words and even more. He has said it times without number that he has never begged for anything since he became a MOG. He obviously has interest in so many thriving businesses, remember he is a prolific writer whose books sells in millions of copies. I heard him also talk about the private jets. He said that he has become blessed so much that he could afford jet at a click of fingers. How he bought them, how he maintains it, the Church does not know, no dime of church fund goes to his upkeep and maintenance.

Mr balance the equilibrium, do tell us what is the current percentage of christians in relation to Muslims heading the security organizations in the country. You the analysis expert.
Chief of Defence (highest ranking service chief) is North, Chief of Army staff is South East, Chief of Naval force is South south, Chief of Airforce is South west, IGP is North. So how is there disequilibrium? Who has benefitted more? Or is North no longer one? Whereas for us in South, there is nothing like one south, south is divided into 3,whereas North often says "One North" so is there any point splitting positions in the North like South?

kabba7: I think I wii rather back the JNI on this if they kept quiet we could be heading towards the Aguiyi Ironsi era again . If those officers were backers of BH tell the nation to know if the military is being 'easthernalise' U̶̲̥̅̊ must not expect the notherners to mute because Their people will ask .the posting werer too close for comfort as a matter of fact.
I have asked this question before and pple like u ll shy away from talking; it goes like this! If two Northern Muslim officers who were occupying same position were removed and replaced by two southern christain officer, doesn't it also balance the equilibrium? Yea, two northern muslims were there, south and christains did not protest, now two southern christains are there, North and Muslims are protesting, who is fooling who? Is it the armed forces of Northern Nigeria?
Politics / Re: JNI, CAN Clash On Removal Of Army Commandants by odumdesmond: 12:02am On Dec 06, 2012
cjrane:

They should watch some of those commandants. This type of strange reaction from JNI shows you some people are having nocturnal meetings with such men for some reasons.Nobody should think this type of agitation is for fun. I would not be surprised if a coup is being quietly planned with such men as potential facilitators. The Federal Government must set us an independent security outfit to monitor these men in sensitive military positions and report their activities.
The days of military coup are over, any attempt to foist military regime in Nigeria by any group will lead to blood bath that will quicken Nigeria's disintegration. It is happening elsewhere in Africa and Nigeria cannot be left out. Military coup will be viewed as attempt by a group of coupist to impose their religion or ethnic affliation on other tribes and religion whose foundation is already weaken. Gone are those days when a military man would announce to us that he has single handedly taken over government. Nigeria is now structured in a way that you reign on the basis of what you have whether population or reource base. This is what is keeping GEJ , a minority as president of Nigeria; his region has got the oil, remove him unceremoniously and the boys retreat to the creeks and cripple the entire oil platform in Nigeria, and which Nigerian government can survive a month without oil export? So there is no possibility of coup again here, the casualty will be high, even the military knows that, there is no more unity in the armed forces, if say Yoruba man emerges president by coup, do you think that Hausa or Ibo or South south military officer wouldn't wage war against him like it happened during Gideon Orkar's coup?
Politics / Re: JNI, CAN Clash On Removal Of Army Commandants by odumdesmond: 4:28pm On Dec 05, 2012
dick hardener: The views of JNI is rather myopic.
On point, it pains me more that JNI that could not sympathise with the bereaved will come out to question the removal of two muslim brothers and their replacement with christain southern Ibo officers. If I may ask, were the two officer that were removed not northerners and muslims? If they are replace by two southerners and christains, doesn't it balance the equilibrium? Why didn't JNI complain of the loopsided appointment of two muslim northern officers at that strategic posts if they abhor two persons from same region and religion occupying that position? If the redeployment was ordered by chief of defence staff Ola Saad Ibrahim, a northern muslim from Kwara state, why is JNI making all these noise. North will always prove itself to be the major problem of Nigeria. I guess that since Abacha's death, North has not woken up from the hard reality that it must share power with its Southern counterpart if Nigeria must move ahead. Somebody should tell North that military regime under which they exclusively controlled both fed and state govt in Nigeria ended with Abacha's death, now power must be negotiated or they loose out irrespective of their number or land mass, after all, all the actions are in the south now.

Romance / Re: Barrister Fred Agabje Bombshell! Only 25% Of Nigerian Women Are Wife Materials! by odumdesmond: 2:34pm On Dec 04, 2012
ypzilanti: Why una dey vex like this? The man gave his personal opinion, which a lot of Nigerian guys agree with.

Most Nigerian women are looking for already made men. Unfortunately for them most men to not hit the big time until about the age of forty in Nigeria.

Now, considering that by the age of forty, most men have already married 'sensible' cool headed babes, the 'big eyed' girls have to screeeeew them as side hoes...hoping they will leave their wives. Most men do not...who wan leave correct dependable woman for side hoe?

By the time the greedy girls realise the mistake, the successful men in their age range are no longer available. Then they start looking for unemployed prospective guys who are graduates to 'train'. grin
Gbam!!!! That is why there is a glut of single ladies aged between 35- to 45, some praying that menopause doesn't catch up with them before perhaps a widower comes their way for marriage. The issue is that most lady while chasing shadow allow men of their generation from whom they were naturally ment to get a husband, to get married to younger ladies in the age bracket of say 20-25. I graduated from university some 4 years back, what I have observed is that whereas many of my male collegues are fast getting married and settling down, our female counterparts are not, perhaps they re stil waiting for Dangotes, Otedolas, Ubas, Adenugas etc to come and marry them. Now when your mates that are men begin to settle down, your clock has ticked away, you are now Tokunbo, and you can't compete with younger girls between age bracket 20-25 who are stil hot. That is basically the problem. I know how my mum had to battle to stop my elder brother from marrying until my sisters were married, because she realised that eventhough the age bracket is just one year, immediately a younger brother marries before his elder sister, he automatically devalues the worth of his sister who will be viewed as rather old, God save you if the small girl he marries doesn't come to the house and insult her for flirtin while her age mates were getting. Its complex issue.

Its an error of fundaamenal nature, borne out of misconception and all forms of perorations and platitudinal outbursts bypeople who know more of sentiments that real facts and law that led to the Bakassi cession. Yes, politically, Gowon signed various agreements with Cameroon prior to and after the war, but did any of them cause the cession of Bakassi to Camerroon? Hell no!!! I was opportuned to do a 140 page research on the Bakassi imbroglio and came to the inexorable conclusion that Bakassi Peninsula was never a Nigerian territory. It is a complex web of rules of international law and colonial alienation following the Berlin conference of 1884-5 where African territory was divided between colonial powers, Germany got Cameroon while Britain got Nigeria. But around 1913, in a bid to define the boundaries of both nation,Germany and Britain decided that the boundary should follow a particular thalweg and measured using some cordinates which effectively put Bakassi into Cameroon. In fact a clause in the Anglo German treaty said that despite the vagaries of River Akpayafe/ Akwayafe water, "......it is hereby agreed that the territory now known as Bakassi peninsula shall be a German territory". Was Gowon born by then. He just politically signed/ executed an agreement that was made even before he was born which effect led to Biafran surrender!!!

I think that Fed govt has seen wisdom in this ur opinion when the president commenced the signing of Performance Contract with Ministers and the ministers in turn had their DG's sign theirs. It is very crucial that it tricles down to the lowest ranking civil servant at both Fed, state and LGA. Performance Contract simply stipulates terms and conditions for continued retention of job whether as a political appointee or as carrer civil servant, and further states the quantity and quality of jobs to be delivered within a specific period- a sort of target. With this being basis of promotion, increment etc, then civil servants will sit up and laziness, gossips etc will stop
