Computers / Re: Apple Final Cut Pro by ogbotobo(m): 3:22pm On Apr 28, 2008
gabak,
Just bought the SONY EX1, which is only compatible with FCP (so I was told). Didn't realize that Nigeria is predominantely Adobe orientated. Looks like I'm on my own, then.
Computers / Apple Final Cut Pro by ogbotobo(m): 11:57am On Apr 28, 2008
Anyone out there who is into Apple Final Cut Pro and willing to teach a small group of newbies how to work with it? Just bought myself a Macbook Pro complete with Final Cut Studio 2 and realized that without tutorials there will be a steep and long learning curve. The object is to edit/work with Full HD video files. Email please to: info@Mediapro-Nigeria.com

Cheap Fares to and from Europe? Turkish Airlines: Frankfurt-Lagos return for €615. Since March this year they are part of the Star Alliance, so I would imagine their safety and service standards have to be up to a certain level along with the other member airlines. Lay over time at Istanbul is acceptable.

It looks like OKADA is rolling out its fleet of Dreamliners, soon to be gracing the international skies again. Not too sure about their inflight services, though.

Travel / Re: Possible Location On Missing Tradewing Beechcraft 1900d Airplane by ogbotobo(m): 12:43pm On Apr 10, 2008
This is a simple case of the crew (there were no passengers on board) taking that plane to a new destination without telling anybody. After all it was a fairly new aircraft in good condition. So one should probably look beyond the borders of Nigeria trying to locate it.  I am sure it will re-emerge sooner or later with a new registration and different colour scheme.  And as to "evade local radar":  Are you kidding? There ain't such a thing anywhere near that area!
Travel / Re: Visa To Nigeria Approved ! by ogbotobo(m): 11:30pm On Dec 05, 2007
@ poster,
You actually paid an application fee? And who needs a middle man or agent to help him/her to get a visa? Are you sure you haven't been 419d? If I had to commend the Nigerian government on their efforts, then it would be for their very latest "Come and visit Nigeria" campaign as published on their official website in Germany:
Simplified issuance of visas/entry permit to intending visitors, such that they can get it immediately on application. Tourists arriving our ports with return tickets, are also issued with visas on the spot.
Security agencies, including customs and immigration have been oriented to discharge their duties promptly to eliminate inconveniences by visitors at entry points.

Now, THEY wouldn't lie to us, would they?
Travel / Re: Nairalander Based In Germany? Host Needed. by ogbotobo(m): 10:07pm On Nov 16, 2007
Her visa is for France, which means she can also travel to other Schengen states. This being her first journey outside Nigeria, I thought it might be a good idea to have one of her own country men - maybe better: women - to look after her as kind of tourist guide. It's certainly an advantage to have someone on site who's got a bit of local knowledge and most likely speaks the language. There are surely Naija students in Germany who could help out, and make a few extra €uro at the same time. You can also email me at: whatarefriendsfor@gmx.eu
Travel / Nairalander Based In Germany? Host Needed. by ogbotobo(m): 4:42pm On Nov 16, 2007
A good friend of mine (female/28 yrs) is travelling to Europe, soon. I would like her to spend a week or 2 in Germany. Is there anybody on Nairaland, who is based there and willing to be her host? It's her first trip abroad. Expenses for accommodation, food and possible excursions etc. will be covered, of course.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Build's His Helicopter! by ogbotobo(m): 12:23pm On Oct 23, 2007
That "Helicopter" will fly as far and as high as a fat pig can jump. Let him add some windows and it would qualify as a submarine, ready to go on a mission in the Niger Delta, for a one way dive.
Travel / Re: Investment Goldmine In Tourism by ogbotobo(m): 8:07am On May 22, 2007
Tourism in Nigeria? Why don't you invite a tour manager from abroad, who's never been to this country, for a trial run. Pick him up at MM International and send him on a limousine trip (maybe at night) down to Port Harcourt. Let him experience the hospitality of your highway guest houses, the feeling of security when being stopped by uncountable police check points, the welcome-to-my-country treat when encountering the community nailboard brigades. I'm not even mentioning the overall lack of basic infrastructure. I do agree though, that tourism has a great potential for making you lots of money, but you have to do your home work first. South Africa, Namibia, Botsuana, Kenia are good examples, one day it may work for Nigeria as well.

@kachi Face,

I just felt like spending a bundle of money to buy some cute clothing and lingerie for my baby, now that you told me where to find it. Unfortunately, all I'm getting from your website is: No results for "Women's Clothing"!
Maybe you should try a little bit harder before rattling the cage.
Technology Market / Re: Digital Camera Wanted! by ogbotobo(m): 2:55pm On Apr 15, 2007
Oh,oh!  There's only one camera then (short of going into Digital Hasselblad) that springs to mind which fits your high spec demands: Canon D1s Mk2. It sports 16 Mega pixels and obviously offers a whole lot of lenses and accessories that you'd expect. Wish you best of luck in your new business.
Technology Market / Wanted: Home Cinema System by ogbotobo(m): 12:08pm On Apr 13, 2007
Since the Denon S 301 doesn't seem to be available over here, who can sell me (or help me to find) a decent quality surround sound system. Price range up to  Naira 300k. I also need a screen, approx. 2,5 x 2,5m.
Projector I have.
Technology Market / Denon S-301 Surround by ogbotobo(m): 6:36pm On Apr 11, 2007
DENON S-301
Can anybody tell me, if the Denon S-301 Pseudo Surround System is available here in Nigeria? Sells for €1500 in Europe. It's only 2 speakers plus woofer, but still a bit too bulky/heavy to bring in on a flight.
Any info is much appreciated.

Isn't that a bit over the top? A lot of households don't even have electrical power supply reliable enough to produce ice cubes in their fridge.

Hi Kenny and Crux,

This is what I bought 9 month ago:

Fujitsu Siemens PC Celsius M440 P4-660 3.6G
Win XP Prof
Intel Pentium 4 (660)/ 3600 MHz
2048 (2x1024) MB RAM
500 (2x250) GB HDD
Double Layer DVD+/-RW
ATI Fire GL V3250/256 MB

My video editing software is Pinnacle Liquid 6 Pro (Pinnacle has been bought out by AVID now)

Whenever I'm in a hurry, I still use Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus, because it so easy to put things together, and I'm used to the various editions from Studio 6 onwards for a long time.

You should realize that when you get into the more sophisticated video editing softwares, it does take quite some time to get to know how it works.

There is no ultimate answer to what to buy, so please see this posting as a mere account of equipment I've been using for some time now and being happy with.

I wish you fun and success with your editing.

Jobs/Vacancies / Narrator (f) Needed For Video Voice Overs by ogbotobo(m): 6:42pm On Oct 02, 2006
Ladies of the Nairaland,
We are based in Warri and producing corporate and industrial videos. The weak link in our chain is the voice over, hence we are looking for a female (any age) narrator with a pleasant voice. Clear pronunciation of the English language is a must. This would be on freelance basis (we call you when we need you), so anyone -even otherwise employed already- could apply.  Naira 15.000/day.

You would have to spend around 200.000 Naira to get yourself the right PC with all the right stuff for video editing in it.  A popular editing software like Pinnacle Studio 10 Plus will cost you 25000 Naira. It has a lot of excellent features, including DVD authoring, and it doesn't take much to understand how it works. There are various DVD tutorials available to teach you how to make the most out of it.  If you are interested, I could give you the configurations of the PC I am using, as a guide line as to what to look for should you want to get one for yourself.

Business / Re: I Want To Start A Travel Agency by ogbotobo(m): 11:47pm On Sep 23, 2006
Liz,
As long as most Airlines have no problems filling their seats with full fare paying (business-)customers on the Lagos international flights, I think you'll find it difficult to come up with substantial discounts on these routes. The same goes for domestic flights: AERO can easily charge 19.000 Naira for a one way ticket from Lagos to Warri, because they are the only ones flying this route, whereas the same airline charges you 10.000 for the much longer PHC to Lagos flight, where they are in competition with other airlines.
Anyhow, I wish you luck, and if you are successful, let me know: I'll be one of your clients.
