How to Learn anything Fast and Easily

What really is the use of knowledge or a piece of important information that is not shared or used to make an impact in the lives of others?

These were my exact thoughts while listening to Nishant Kasibhatla, a grandmaster in memory in Singapore and one-time Guinness record breaker in memory.

But was he born like that? The answer is No. Obviously, he has made conscious effort to master the art of fast learning as well as memory techniques.

I am pretty much aware of how challenging it is to read and not being able to recall retentively.

You find yourself reading hard and doing the most but still, you entered that examination hall and went all blank, what exactly was the problem?

Is it that you didn't read?

Nah, of course, you did.

So what then went wrong?

Why do you find it difficult memorizing stuff?

It mustn't always be la cram la pour (cramming) you know.

These were some of the questions I pondered on that eventually made me go looking for answers and what did I learn?

What I realized about learning fast

If you look around and get to study persons who have reached an extraordinary level of success you would get to notice something that is common amongst them besides passion, determination and the whole lots.

Actually, What you would realize is their commitment to a life long learning.

They keep learning new things on a life long basis because

A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimension   - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Your learning ability decides your earning capacity  -Nishant Kasibhatla

When you learn faster, you would be able to stand out from everyone else.

You could go from underpaid to overpaid and you can have an unfair advantage to others.

But the question is how exactly do you learn?

And where exactly are you getting it wrong?

It actually all starts from the input.

Meaning most people when learning, tend to focus way too much on input and by input I mean;  attending seminars, reading books, watching documentaries and youtube videos, listening to podcast, following blogs etc.

It's usually all about input.

There is actually nothing wrong in learning so much but if you have too much input with absolutely no output then what you’ve succeeded in achieving is known as shallow learning.

An example of this could be seen in those moments when you are asked to read a book and then you are asked questions only to realize you can't quite answer them or deliver properly on what you might have learnt.

This is because you read it using the shallow form of learning which I also love to refer to as Passive learning.

What really is the point of learning something if you can't implement it and benefit from it?

Then it is just pure intellectual entertainment and nothing else.

So we do not exactly want shallow or passive learning if we really want to learn. Rather what we want is Deep learning otherwise known as Active learning.

Learning classifications

So with all these, we can see that learning could actually be classified into 2 major categories:

-Shallow (Passive)

-Deep (Active)

So how exactly do we engage in Deep or Active Learning?

It’s pretty simple.

You engage in deep learning when you focus more on the output rather than the input.

What do I mean?

Take for example you choose to learn to play an Instrument.

Do you only just learn by reading on it or watching them play it?

No, rather you only truly learn by actually playing it yourself.

I remember before I actually started writing, I always thought I had to learn and read a whole lot on it before actually taking the bold step.

Guess what?

I was wrong because I would have only been focused on input while ignoring output and waiting for the right time when my brain has been bombarded with all of the input.

It took some time for me to realize that you learn faster by doing.

So all I just needed to do was to go ahead and write, irrespective of whether I am good enough or not.

At the end of the day, I can only actually judge myself after I have written and that's the best way to actually learn.

So what are the memory techniques that can enable one to attain true mastery?

4 Cogent ways to Learn Anything

1. Learn

As we all know, in order to become a master at anything the first thing, of course, is learning which you are probably already doing.

The interesting thing is whatever it is you are learning, you must ensure that the quality of input is really high.

Meaning that you must be paying 100% attention but the problem these days is when people say they are learning, what they are actually doing is - Multitasking.

We often multitask with devices such as phones and this is a form of distraction that allows our mind to deviate from what it is meant to be focused on.

If you happen to be reading for example and you get a message from your phone, what do you usually do?

You leave your book and attend to your phone.

And what have you just done by doing that?

You have just killed your momentum and that means that you have messed up with the quality of input.

Your quality of input determines your quality of retention

This means, how well and how long can you remember information?

It also affects the quality of recall.

That is the reason why if you are learning anything, at least for the time you are learning you shouldn't be multitasking.

Do one thing at a time especially when it comes to learning.

So learn to stay away from distraction while learning.

2. Reflect

So many people are in a rush to learn new things.

This is good but the problem surfaces when they keep packing more knowledge without sitting for a bit to reflect on what they have previously learnt before rushing into another.

After learning something, try to pause for a while and ask yourself;

hey! What have I really learnt from this thing?

What is the take away from this chapter?

And how can I apply this information to my life, work, family, relationship etc?

Whenever you pause, reflect and ask yourself these questions, you create room for learning to solidify otherwise it’s all just waste.

3. Implement

Implementation is actually where the magic happens and unfortunately many people miss out on this.

What most people tend to do is;

after learning one thing, they get so excited, motivated, inspired and immediately go on to learn something new.

Now that's where it just gets all messed up.

If you have gotten used to the habit of learning without implementation, what do you get?

You get an illusion of competence and that means that you would then feel you have learnt it, you feel you are competent but that's not competence at all because you haven't implemented it.

So when you are learning something, stop and write down some of the things you can take action on and then take action or some of the things you have learnt and see how well you can implement it.

A lazy action is better than no action

4. Share

We would all agree that the best way to learn something is actually to teach it.

It reminds me of a male friend I had in my senior year back then in high school.

After every chemistry class, he would always come and meet me to ask if I understood what the teacher had taught.

Well, I being someone always willing to learn something new and in a different way even if I actually understood would usually say no(plus I realized it often hits differently when your mate or someone you can relate easily with is teaching you rather than your teacher).

So he would begin to explain the best way he could and to my understanding.

I always gained something new every time but then I began to wonder why he always did that.

"Could it be that he likes me? " (LOL) I thought to myself, but well "don't flatter yourself too much dee", I mumbled after

So it pretty much became a routine.

Eventually, I realized chemistry had been a little challenging for him the previous year and he had found out the secret to fast learning and retention at that time.

So it might seem like he was helping me by teaching me, well yes he was.

However,  what he was actually doing was helping himself more and of course, it was evident in his results because he became the best in chemistry.

Now, Why didn't I become the best and why did he become the best? That's the practical role of input and output.

Whenever you learn something, always inculcate the habit of sharing it, teaching it, outputting it.

If you don't want to teach, you could just share it or discuss it because when you share things to people, what you are actually doing is helping your brain pay more attention and before you realize it, you are on your way to mastery.

Summary on how to learn something fast

Basically, no one ever mastered the art of learning by just input which is to learn, rather they mastered learning by doing more of the output which is to reflect, implement and share.

When you are learning something new, how much time do you spend on learning and how much time do you spend on reflecting implementing and sharing?

If you find yourself spending more time on the input than on output then you are obviously going about it the wrong way.

As we know, all of these learning involves proper memorization.

How to memorize

So a little tip on how to memorize include:

-Visualization
you would agree with me when I say the brain happens to remember pictures and images better.

Reasons why we often hear  " Oh! Have we met before? I think I have seen you somewhere, sorry what's your name?"

But you will never hear anyone say "Oh! I know your name please what's your face?" (LOL). It doesn't happen.

So that's just how the human brain works. So when trying to memorize, learn to make use of images, pictures, videos etc.

- Association
Association is pretty easy and it involves relating what you are reading to things around you or other things which you can remember or easily relate to.

An example could be the characteristics of living things we were taught back in high school.

Many of us used the acronym "MR NIGER D" in order to remember it.

So acronyms too could be used as a form of association.

Creating acronyms you can relate to that could help you remember what you need to.

So, there are many other forms of associating whatever you are learning to anything that relates to you for better retention.

Conclusion

If you are spending X amount of time on input, then try to spend 2X amount of time on output and when you do so, you are on your way to mastering the art of learning.

Business / Secrets To Earn Massively From Whatsapp by Oghogho0(m): 2:42am On Apr 17, 2020
Hi guys. Welcome to the latest from making money online

Today, we are going to be putting our focus on making money via WhatsApp platform.

Whatsapp happens to be one of the biggest social media platforms in the world today. Though it’s not popular in Asia; nonetheless, it is well recognized.

The fact that it has so many users globally means it will definitely have so many monetary opportunities.

Whatsapp doesn’t pay directly like some other online platforms.

Nonetheless, the opportunity to make money online through WhatsApp is numerous and I’m going to expose you to but a few

Requirements to make money through WhatsApp

There are some basic requirements needed to begin the quest to make money through WhatsApp. These requirements make it easier and effective.

The list below contains the requirement. You are expected to have at least one.

Having all is the best idea though.

1. Lots of contacts
2. Belong to lots of groups
3. A blog

8 latest ways to make money through WhatsApp

1. Pay to click website

Ever heard of pay to click website?

These are websites that pay you for clicking on their ads and taking a survey.

However, most are scam i.e they end up not paying a dime.

I had to carry a lot of research to put on the genuine ones in this article.

Ysense is an online rewards website for those looking to earn extra money from all over the world.

While ysense pays you to complete surveys, watch videos and complete their task; it also pays you commissions to refer your friends {which is where lots of WhatsApp contact come in}.

You’ll be given a referral link which can be shared on WhatsApp. The more people that register with your referral link, the higher you’ll earn.

As you refer friends, it’s also good you try and complete the surveys you are qualified for.

It takes dedication and commitment to earn money from platforms like this.

Click here to join ysense and start making money

For redrawal of funds, I recommend you use skrill. The money made will be transferred to your skrill account.

It works just like PayPal and the money can be sent to banks anywhere in the world including Nigeria.

If you’re looking for how to make money from WhatsApp, sharing links from pay per click website is one of them. Give it a try.

It may not work for everyone especially those who are quick to give up or those not willing to put any effort.

 2. Sharing short links

This happens to be one of the easiest and popular ways of making money from WhatsApp.

Short links are shortened URL leading to a page.

They’re websites that shorten URL. Copy the correct URL, place it on the URL shortener and you are good to go.

Go ahead and paste this link on your WhatsApp status or send to friends that enjoy reading your articles.

Ads will always display before the page can be viewed. This is how your money is made.

Example of this site is Adfly

3. Affiliate marketing

This is the process of earning commissions based on sales made through your referral link.

You can decide to do affiliate marketing for an online fashion shop.

In order to succeed, it is paramount to join a fashion WhatsApp group.

You can go ahead to tell the group how you saw some clothes that you love and you are sure they’ll like it too. Then paste the link for them to check it out.

Remember, don’t spam the group with it or act rude.

Going about it the right way will make you some cool cash.

Examples of affiliate programs are Jumia affiliate, Amazon affiliate etc.

See the steps that must be taken to make money through affiliate marketing

4. Market your goods and services

It’s no news that buying and selling of goods online is now almost on par with buying offline.

Do you have goods to market/sell?

If yes, Whatsapp can give you such an opportunity for free.

Same rules apply to how you convince customers during affiliate marketing.

However; rather than sending links, you send them samples of the product in the form of pictures.

This can be done via WhatsApp personal messages, WhatsApp statuses or Whatsapp groups.

Similarly, you can market the services you offer by also showing pictures of you offering such services to other customers/clients and remarks of customers.

Health / 3 Unknown Health Benefits Of Guguru by Oghogho0(m): 9:38pm On Mar 15, 2020
What is guguru?

This name is popular among different Nigeria culture and unknown in most part of the world. It is often mistaken for the strong leftovers from popcorn. however, it is actually prepared separately. I often refer to it as fried corn. Although, this frying is carried out without oil. If you want to prepare it at home, go to the market and buy old raw dried corn, get a frying pan on the fire, put as much corn as u can on the frying pan, add a little salt or sugar and stir till it gets browny and a little burn.

Guguru availability

It happens that guguru is readily available in Nigeria. Hardly will you go to a place and find it difficult to get guguru. You can get it in small retail stores, during traffic jams, and you can also easily prepare it. Also, guguru is very cheap. There is no excuse whatsoever not to afford it daily.

Health benefits of guguru

1. it's a natural manpower food

For the guys who happens to have premature ejaculation, guguru will go a long way in giving a helping hand. It's best taken together with groundnut. Together, they help in making guys last longer in bed and enjoy it better.

I'll advise you to stop taking any drugs that aid you lasting in bed. Sticking with guguru happens to be one of the best options around. Start taking it daily and you'll testify on your bed performance improvement.

2. Guguru aids digestion

Aiding digestion also means it prevent constipation. Guguru happens to be made from corn which is high in dietary fibre which comprises of both soluble and insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre helps in blocking cholesterol absorption by turning into a gel-like consistency whereas insoluble fibre prevents constipation and intestinal problems. It does this by helping to flush your system thereby making stooling easier.

3. Guguru prevents hypertension and diabetes

Regular consumption of guguru helps in the management of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) which was explained in the article "diabetes mellitus classification". Also, it helps to protect against hypertension - a silent killer. These are possible due to the presence of phytochemicals which helps regulate the absorption and release of insulin in the body.

Also, it helps to Facilitates Weight gain for people with underweight due to its high-calorie density. It improves vision and treat general body weakness and Pain.

Don't abuse guguru

From experience, guguru could be addictive if large amounts are consumed daily. So, it's advisable to eat your meal first before taking guguru. Reasons being that you will certainly get filled up if you take only guguru. This will aid in reducing the hunger to eat a well-balanced meal. After your meal, feel free to consume as much guguru as possible.

Nairaland / General / 8 Wrong Philosophies You Must Resist by Oghogho0(m): 6:58pm On Mar 15, 2020
There are lots of philosophies in the world today. Many of which should be ignored. Today, we'll be looking at 8 wrong philosophies you must resist

Whatever will be, will be

Whatever will be will not be; you have to make it be. You have a part to play in what will be in your life, so don't leave it to chance.

Half bread is better than none

Why settle for half bread when a full bread is well within your reach, even a bakery. This is a limiting belief that positions you to settle for less and it is a mediocre philosophy.

A fool at forty is a fool forever

A fool at any age can be a fool forever if he refuses to let go of his foolishness. It is never too late to become wise because the day you wake up and wise up is the day you change.

All fingers are not equal

Yes! Physical fingers in your hands are not equal but that doesn't make any of them valueless financially, and you realize that they are valuable. You are not even a finger, so why look down on yourself?

Life begins at forty

If you are below forty and you believe this, I feel so sorry for you. Get this philosophy out of your head and start living.

What goes up must come down

Is your age coming down? Are your wisdom and knowledge reducing? Are the prices of goods coming down? Think my friend, think.

He who laughs last laughs best

Why laugh last when you can laugh always and why laugh best when laughter is not a competition. When we program ourselves with these strange philosophies, they limit and restrict us.

The angel you know is better than the angel you don't know

Why do you want to associate with the devil? The devil depicts evil no matter how you want to make it look. The angel you don't even know is doing his primary assignment of guarding you always. Nothing good comes from the devil. Desists from such philosophy.

Lastly, Change the way you think and talk. You will change the world around you. You have the opportunity to recreate your world

Nairaland / General / Key Ways To Embrace And Live With Imperfections by Oghogho0(m): 3:08am On Mar 04, 2020
We all at some point in our life assert to the fact that imperfection is common among us humans.

It is so difficult to prepare your heart to accept imperfect results. Yet, it is really challenging to find a perfect outcome out of circumstances and situations in life.

Haven't you wondered! yes I know no man is flawless still I can't accept deficiency from people. like what else was I expecting, when I already know imperfections is all that men are perfect about.

What you must know: To deal with imperfections, one must make deliberate, voluntary, forethought and wilful effort towards the struggle.

WHAT IS IMPERFECTION?

Imperfections speak of shortcomings, deficiency, incompleteness and even weakness. There are so many words to use in place of the word. But, I like to see it as a distortion from perfection.

What so many persons do not know about imperfections, "where there is imperfection there is an eye-opener to what is perfect".

Don't be surprised to know that there is no place, or circumstance, or person called perfect.

Perfection is not a destination it's a journey.

There isn't a perfect version of anything.

As a matter of fact, people best relate to imperfection than perfection. That is because we humans already know that we ain't perfect at all.

You can only find perfection in imperfections. As I said, it must be deliberate.

PERFECTION IS BORING!!!

Those little flaws are sometimes what makes some image standout. In music, dissonance from a chord is what gives it that attractive feeling.

Flaws can be attractive!

We usually make the mistake of procrastinating due to our hunger for perfection.

Fun Fact: "perfectionists are great procrastinators".

Embracing perfection is the key to dealing with imperfection. Those shortcomings and distortion are what makes us human.

You may be having an issue with accepting shortcomings, we will try and help you deal with that using this 4 approach. Still, they all revolve around accepting or embracing imperfections.

4 KEY WAYS TO LIVING WITH IMPERFECTION

The truth is imperfections have come to stay, you have to embrace it while trying to get good results out of life.

1.     Make Peace with Imperfection:

We have understood already that perfection does not exist. You only have goals in your mind and when you don't achieve them. You think of yourself as imperfect.

Come to think of it. Imagine if that imperfect state of yours presently was initially your goal? Does that make it perfect?

Of course not!

We really need to strive to be at peace with imperfections. It is good to have goals, not just goals but challenging ones. But when it does not happen, be at peace.

Your present state can be the goal of somebody else.

Don't beat yourself over what you could not achieve, rather ponder on what you can learn from it.

One danger of achieving your goal. Is that you may forget to make further improvement. And that is what imperfections reveal. Its shows you that there is room for more development.

2.   Accept it as natural in yourself, others and systems (govt etc):

Imperfections make us human. We can't control everything. You need to accept imperfections in yourself. Not just yourself, but in others.

One secret to friendship is not being a perfectionist. People can only relate with imperfections. When you present perfection to them. They shy away for 2 reasons.

Either, they can't believe that you are perfect. Which suggest to them that you are faking your life, or
They think that you are too good for them.

Here is the idea. Don't freak out over little imperfections from people. I know some guys who are good at that. Trust me you do not want to drive people away from yourself.

3.     Quit setting impossible standards

Yes, as awesome as it is to set high standards for one's self because it helps one aim high and works harder. It's also not advisable to set the bars so high that it begins to hit impossible standards.

What  I simply mean by this is do not set impossible standards for yourself. And there's just one word that covers these impossible standards and that word simply is "perfection"

It's better to come in terms with the fact that the person you looking at and thinking is perfect, is not actually perfect & never will no matter how perfect they might seem. Same goes to you as well, you aren't perfect and never will because you are human and so are they.

When you realize this you would be able to handle your flaws, failures as well as imperfections much better and would finally be able to understand that you can't meet up with impossible standards. So, there's no need to fight yourself over every little imperfection but rather work better each day in order to aim at becoming a better you rather than a perfect you. Don't  set impossible standards for yourself

Mind you: Perfection is just a mirage created from expectation

4.     Elimination of the need for perfection allows you to discover perfection in life itself

So after quitting impossible standards, total elimination of the need for perfection follows.

We are most times way too driven to find the perfection that we often seem blind to realize how perfect we could be still, even with our imperfections which obviously makes us humans as I've earlier mentioned.

Sometimes, you just have to completely kill the desire for perfection, in other to really see perfections in life.

Yeah! It is good because you call it good.

But on the other hand, somebody else can say it's bad.

Take the perfectionist for example who happen to be great procrastinators because they seek perfection in all they do and until something is perfect the way they want and everything is just in place, they do not exactly find it worthy.

I can testify to this because I happen to be one but I had to break out because I realized as much as perfection seems like the best thing, it obviously has its own side effect which is procrastinating and we all know what procrastination does.

At the end of the day, we fail to try out new things and miss out on a whole lot all in the search for perfection. When we can obviously go into things even while imperfect and learn as well as get better in the process which is actually the real perfection.

AGAIN, Perfection is not a destination but a journey

Romance / 7 Important Factors To Consider Before Sharing Secrets In A Relationship by Oghogho0(m): 2:32am On Mar 02, 2020
Most times, we fail to remember that there are factors to consider before sharing secrets, especially when love is involved. One really need to understand the fact that love is not just enough when it comes to revealing anything about you. I’m not trying to say that the second party is not worth it. But this is not about worth, it is more than that, there are other factors you should put into consideration before letting the cat out of the bag. Ok, I think I should be very clear here.

There are certain things that you should not hide in some relationships (like in terms of marital relationship) this is a very special case, remember there is a vow involved in this relationship (husband and wife). But for other relationships, you need to think beyond love before revealing things about yourself.

My take on sharing secrets in any other forms of relationship

Though yes I would agree that even in a very serious and promising relationship, in other words during courtship I believe there are some things your partner should actually know about you before vows are made to spend your lives together forever. Most of these things are things that could probably shape your relationship in a bad way if found out later. So the earlier the better. Though like I mentioned, usually for promising relationships.

Personally, I believe that a secret being shared is barely still a secret. Many a time, we share secrets to people we feel we can trust and confide in but then often times some of these people we feel we can confide in could also have others they feel they can confide in. If you couldn't keep what you referred to as a secret then what makes you think they can? In that case, we could say, a secret shared is no longer a secret.

But anyway, I do understand the feeling of wanting to get a secret off your chest sometimes by sharing it with a trustworthy other. In this case, there are lots of factors that should be put into consideration before bringing all your dirty linens out in the open.

These other factors are so simple, a good number of them we are pretty much aware of, but we only just don't consider them often. Probably because we are most times blindfolded as well as quick to trust.

7 important factors to consider before sharing secrets in a relationship

1. Your relationship with them

Sometimes some people don't even care to put the relationship they have with the other party into consideration before letting the cat out of the bag and littering the whole house with the cat(I could have stopped at letting the cat out of the bag LOL.... well bite me.... but you get the point).

Anyways, there are some people who are in the habit of trusting so fast without considering the fact that they hardly even know the other party. The types that meet someone today and before the following day, you can draw their family tree down to their ancestry.

Oftentimes(well more like all the time), It's better to define your relationship with someone properly. Be sure you have a close relationship with them and you know them well enough before telling them things that could be regarded as secrets or confidential except you are filing a medical form and something like "how many times do you have sex daily" is a secret to you(LOL, but you get my point).

2. Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the state of keeping or being kept secret or private. It's obviously a state of having another's trust or confidence; entrusted with secrets or private affair. Well yeah take it or leave it, after properly defining your relationship, this is still the number one factor to consider before sharing a secret with just anyone. Can you confide in them? Do you trust them? Can they keep secrets or do their mouth leak?

One of the ways to identify someone you can't and shouldn't trust easily is they are very fast and comfy to tell you other people's secret. If they can comfortably do that what makes you think they can't comfortably tell others yours. You might be thinking they just trust you. True but well it doesn't always work like that.

On the other hand, there are people who could tell you secrets about themselves easily but when it comes to someone else you could hear them say something like "it's someone else's secret, not mine, else I would have told you" now that's confidentiality. In that case, it might not be that they don't actually trust you but then, someone else trusted them not to leak their secrets. In other words, Trusting them to keep it confidential irrespective of who they are talking to.

It's one thing to share your own secret but another to share someone else's
- DollyMchottney

3. Maturity

How matured are they? Of course, you would agree with me that maturity is a very important factor to put into consideration before revealing your secret. Some people are so immature not to mention talk so much that they can rat out anything without due consideration. And of course what of situations when feelings and relationship change? How mature are they?

You may trust your friend, he/she can keep your secret safe anytime, any day. But that is the case where you guys are in good terms. What if you both have a serious misunderstanding, at this point, it only takes maturity to keep your secret safe. If the person is mature enough, then you can be sure that all confidential information of yours is safe. To be safe you have to first be sure that he/she is mature enough to keep them undisclosed and safe even when you are both not in good terms or are fighting or whatever maybe the problem.

4. Security

Some pieces of information are better not disclosed if the security of the receiver of the information will be at stake. It gets me crying when people die after certain information have been disclosed to them and they probably disclose it too. I mean, If the security of a person is going to be threatened by the disclosure of information, I see no reason why it should be revealed. Personally, I prefer not to know things about people that threaten their lives because it may put mine at stake too.

5. Will it hurt someone

I did mention security earlier in terms of if receivers life or the discloser is at stake. Well, this point in question takes a little bit of a different dimension in terms of will it rather hurt or affects someone physically, mentally or emotionally? Or something that could affect how others treat the person.

Well, there are some really delicate secrets that when shared could actually emotionally hurt someone but we might not see it in the same light. Probably because it doesn't seem like much of a secret to you but could be to them. These are things that are a little delicate to the other party and so at the end of the day, we have to actually consider it and be sure it wouldn't actually cause any form of hurt to the other party.

6. The personality/character of the second party

This is another important factor to consider before sharing secrets. Just like I mentioned earlier, For instance, if you know your friend talks a lot when he is drunk, I think it will be wise to keep certain things about yourself to yourself. You can have a close friend that talks too much, he/she always tell you what people do. If those persons informations. are not safe, why will you think yours will be safe too. Your friend may not have the intention to hurt you (of course he is your friend) but his character and personality still remain the same. So, what can I say, wisdom is profitable, put it into good use? Regrets are bad.

7. Is there really need

Sometimes this is also a question we also need to ask and actually consider at the end of the day because you'd agree with me that the moment we weigh our pros and cons and ask ourselves if somethings really need to be said, we'd realize that most of the time they don't actually need to be said after all.

We realize it's not bothering us, it's delicate and most likely not even necessary or called for and often times we might not even be totally comfortable or feel safe with the other person knowing, then what really is the essence? Is there really need?

If not, then isn't it best just keeping it to yourself if indeed it's a secret. On the other hand, if you are in a position where there seem to be needed, then that's much more understandable.

Nairaland / General / Fear Indeed Has An Element Of Importance by Oghogho0(m): 2:23pm On Feb 27, 2020
Fear indeed has an element of importance

I won't be wrong if I assume that you can't stop wondering about how fear has an element of Importance. Believe me, Fear is indeed important and if we choose to flashback on our lives, we'll see one or two occasions where fear did help us.

We've already established in the article 10 must know secrets about fear that fear is an emotion. Emotions are feelings which are gotten not from the 5 sense organs but associated with the nervous system.

These emotions can be negative or positive. Whichever it may be, it's as a result of what's going on in our life. Positive emotions are all we need to become a better version of ourselves, while negative emotions goes a long way in reducing our confidence etc. Fear, which happens to be one of those negative emotion is an exception.

My thoughts on fear importance

I'll always prefer to see fear as a defence mechanism for the future e.g being scared of an upcoming exam or interview. This fear will make you want to do what's necessary so you can come out victorious at the end of the day.

Using my life as a case study, fear has been a push for me to learn new things and excel in areas I always thought I was far behind. Better put, fear of the future has been the push.

When is fear irrelevant?

Fear happens to be important when there's something you can do to better the situation. When one happens to be scared before an exam i.e fear of failure, fear can be a very good drive to push you to read. However, after the exam, fear is irrelevant. Your fear won't change the outcome of the result. All you need at that point in time is faith. Which I like to call the positive equivalent of fear.

What I'm trying to say is "what you are afraid of is not yet a reality". This fear can only be a driving force when you are still in a position to change that reality. However, if that reality can't be changed by you; being afraid is a waste of time because it won't be channelled to make you productive. This is where you are advised to stick with faith.

Fear and pain relationship

Fear happens to be the emotional equivalent of pain. Pain is a sign that you need to withdraw to prevent further damage. For example, is the pain you feel when you place your hand on a hot object that enables you to withdraw it and prevent further damage. Same applies to fear, Fear makes you cautious in whatever you do. A little fear is important to reduce overconfidence.

Final thoughts on fear importance

Lastly, fear gives a sense of direction. When you are afraid to embark on something, you weigh both outcomes i.e success and failure. in order for you to overcome your fear, you must have seen the joy of success been greater than the grief of failure. This is a sense of direction as to where you are going to.

While I won't advise you completely try to eliminate fear in your life, I'll recommend you learn how to deal with it. This will go a long way in boosting your confidence and also make you see fear as one of those things in life.

Summary

The fact that fear happens to be one of the numerous negative emotions doesn't mean it can't play an important role in someone's life. It gives you a sense of responsibility i.e inducing preparation, reduces overconfidence, gives a sense of direction, to say the least. In our daily lives, I'll advise you also draw positives from other negative situation and emotions. These will go a long way in making you a better person.

Health / Can You Build Muscles Or Lose Fat Through Home Workouts by Oghogho0(m): 12:47am On Feb 26, 2020
Hi guys in this segment I'm going to quickly talk about  “can you build muscle or lose fat through home workouts”

Firstly we're going to talk about the benefits and negatives of working out at home.

So, let's jump into it.

what are the benefits of working out at home

1. There's no membership fee.
2. eliminate some travelling to the gym three.
3. It's more convenient.

So if you've just had a hard day's work and you haven't got time to go to a gym it might be more convenient for you to workout at home

4. there's no queuing to use gym equipment.

So for example, if you're at the gym; there's been many times where you might be waiting to use a particular machine and you have to wait for someone to finish that sets and reps. And all you want to do is get your exercise done and leave the gym as soon as possible.

Now what are the negatives of working out at home

1. you need to use your imagination to maintain interest in your training.
So this is very important this is a key point and I'll get back to that later on in this article.

2. It can become demotivating Training alone

3. you're likely to be better suited to equipment at the gym.
And what I mean by this is there's going to be equipment at the gym that might isolate muscles better than a particular exercise at home.

4. there's no social aspect(some)
and I put some in brackets because some like to be by themselves and get their workout completed as quickly as possible whereas others like to take their time and speak to people. That might be a negative working at home for someone like that.

Now, going back to that point I said about having a good imagination of being at the gym. You've got to be inventive with your exercises. This brings me on to this example of a push-up.

So here I've got a guide guiding wide grip push up. He's trying to train triceps. And he doesn't know what to do once he's reached his goal. He's doing 12 - 15 reps easy And he's just doing it over and over again every day working out home whatever it may be.

So what does he do? What can you do? This is where you've got to implement the progressive overload principle into your session guys as well. You've got to do it if you're at home as well. So you've got to make it more difficult and more demanding on the body.

So you get a response rate to stimulate protein synthesis in order for you to grow if you want to gain size but if you're trying to lose weight you want to look to get your heart pumping as fast as possible. Stuff like training is very good for that because getting your heart pumping as fast as possible and then having short breaks help you burn fat really quickly.

But moving back on to how can you improve in exercise or progress to a different exercise. If you're training triceps and if you find then you're getting to 12 - 15 reps of that and you're finding it easy after a few weeks. Well, what you do then is simple. you can decrease the rest period you can up the exercise. Change the dynamics of the exercise for your benefit.

It's all about you benefiting from it to suit your needs guys. whatever your goals may be whether it's to lose fat or build muscle you need to exercise to benefit you. So there are many variations you can do of different exercises.

It's all about implementing that progressive overload principle in order to get the best out of your sessions at home. So if you're going to work out at home, you make sure you invent it with your exercises and make sure you push yourself to limits where you know you're going to make progression quickly and efficiently.

Health / The Importance Of Sleep As Part Of Fitness Routine by Oghogho0(m): 8:54pm On Feb 25, 2020
Hi guys. In this segment, I'm going to talk about the importance of sleep. So you guys probably all understand how important it is to have your rest days as part of your fitness routine.

Have you guys ever considered how much sleep you get every day can affect your overall performance?

Well, sleep is important for both mental and physical health helping you relax, destress, and repair your body. But if you don't get enough sleep your workouts can be affected.

And that's why you see the top athletes get more sleep than others because they're working so hard. So, they need to repair their body for similar amounts of time so they don't injure themselves. It's great injury prevention, believe it or not.

So getting that extra hour at night or having a nap in a day can really help improve performance as well as keep your body in the fittest possible state.

Being active during the day and making sure you have a good night's sleep can also boost your energy levels for the next day allowing you to continue with your normal routine.

However, without sleep, your energy levels will be heavily reduced and this can build up over a period of time if you're not getting enough sleep. It can really affect how your body works and how it functions throughout the day whether that be at work or at the gym.

So, make sure you have a fair amount of sleep depending on how much you work during the day guys. Getting enough sleep allows your glycogen level in your body to increase and this would then be built on to the glycogen from your food that you eat and glycogen is important for many reasons.

Such as for your stamina and keeping your body in healthy shape, but then your body can truly suffer as glucose would turn to energy. And when you need energy when working at the gym and you don't have it then you know your workout can be hugely effective and your motivation can also be hugely affected and your workout can go upside down.

In summary, Sleep helps:
1. Improves recovery.
2. Increase glucose level i.e important for stamina & keeping your body healthy.
3. Improves performance.
4. Keeps your body in the fittest possible state.

So sleep is needed to help your brain concentrate. It helps in recovery from fatigue when at the gym or during workouts.

Here’s an example of why high coordination is very important.

If you're tired you won't perform to the best of your abilities. This means that you won't get the satisfaction from working out, making it highly unenjoyable and that’s something you don't want to do but if you get enough sleep you can help prevent this.

Don't let it get to that guys. I'm telling you to improve your quality of sleep. You need to make sure you're getting at least eight to nine hours which is a recommended guideline. I recommend at least getting a minimum of eight hours to help you carry out your activities for the next day.

Health / 15 Health Benefits Of Drinking Water That You Didn't Know by Oghogho0(m): 2:52pm On Feb 23, 2020
The importance of drinking water cannot be overemphasized. This article is focused on answering questions such as What are the benefits of drinking a lot of water? What happens when you drink lots of water? Can drinking water heal your body? Why is water important to humans?
Water Constituents in the Human Body

Do you know that your body accounts for 60% of water? Water is a major constituent of various body parts and is present in the following amounts:

Brain and heart – 73% water.
Lungs – 83% water.
Skin – 64% water.
Muscles and kidneys – 79% water.
Bones – 31% water.

It has been found that humans are capable of surviving without food for a reasonable amount of time but can barely survive without water for only 2 days. Water has been referred to as the “elixir of life” as it is the cornerstone that allows human existence and survival.

15 health benefits of drinking water

To function properly, all the cells and organs of the body needs water. Water is extremely pivotal or pertinent to human health. Here are manifold reasons why water is pivotal to us humans.

1. Drinking water lubricates the joints.
2. Drinking water forms saliva and mucus.
3. Drinking water helps in the transport of oxygen.
4. Drinking water boosts skin health and beauty.
5. Water has a major effect on brain function, spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.
6. Drinking water helps regulates body temperature.
7. Water aids Digestion.
8. Drinking water prevents kidney damage.
9. Water aids the respiratory tract.
10. Water aids in the maintenance of blood pressure.
11. Water maintains homeostasis.
12. Drinking water helps control calories.
13. Drinking water keeps the muscles Energizes.
14. Drinking water prevents constipation.
15. Water helps prevent headaches and migraines.

Brief explanation below.

Drinking water lubricates the joints

Cartilage found in joints and the disks of the spine contains around 80% water. Long term dehydration can reduce the joint’s shock-absorbing ability which leads to joint pain. water is necessary to help prevent joint friction. Synovial fluid lubricates and cushions the joints and cartilage surrounding them, keeping bones from rubbing together.

Drinking water forms saliva and mucus

Saliva helps us digest our food and keep our mouth, nose and eyes moist. This prevents friction and damage. Drinking water also keeps the mouth clean. Consumption of water instead of sweetened beverages can reduce tooth decay.

Drinking water helps in the transport of oxygen

It delivers oxygen throughout the body. Blood consists of more than 90% water and blood carry oxygen to different parts of the body.

Drinking water boosts skin health and beauty

With proper dehydration, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorder and premature wrinkling. Your skin contains plenty of water and functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. Hydration improves dry and wrinkled skin.

Water has a major effect on brain function, spinal cord and other sensitive tissues

Adequate water intake helps cushion the brain, spinal cord and other sensitive tissues. Dehydration can affect brain structure and function because your brain is strongly influenced by your hydration status. It is also involved in the production of hormones and neurotransmitters. Prolong dehydration can lead to problems with thinking and reasoning as well as a loss of memory. Studies show that even mild dehydration (1-3% of body weight) can impair many aspects of brain function.

Drinking water helps regulates body temperature

Our body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Because our body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it's important to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. Water that is stored in the middle layers of the skin comes to the skin surface as sweat when the body heats up. As it evaporates, it cools the body. In sports, it is said that when there is a water shortage in the body during sporting activities, the individual is made vulnerable to heat strain but having enough water in the body reduces the risk of heat strain.

Water aids Digestion

There's no concern that water will dilute the digestive juices or interfere with digestion. In fact, drinking water during or after a meal actually aids digestion. Water and other liquids help break down food so that your body can absorb the nutrient. So, it is advisable for every human to drink at least 1 or 2 glasses of water after every meal.

Drinking water prevents kidney damage

Water also acts as a prophylactic measure for kidney damage. Your kidneys do an amazing job of cleansing and ridding your body of toxins as long as your intake of fluids is adequate. The kidney regulates fluid in the body and water is a fluid. So insufficiency of water leads to kidney damage.

Water aids the respiratory tract

The airways of humans need it. When dehydrated, the airways are restricted by the body in an effort to minimize water loss, this can make asthma and allergies worse. Drinking-Water helps you Breathe Easier. It helps to thin the mucus lining your airways and lungs. Dehydration can cause that mucus to thicken and get sticky, which slows down overall respiration and makes you more susceptible to illness, allergies and other respiratory problems.

Water aids in the maintenance of blood pressure

Lack of water can cause human blood to become thicker, increasing blood pressure. Water intake affects blood pressure in two ways. First, when you don't drink enough water your body attempts to secure its fluid supply by retaining sodium. Sodium is your body's “water-insurance mechanism.” ... So, one of the best ways to lower your blood pressure naturally is by staying well-hydrated.

Water maintains homeostasis

Homeostasis requires that water intake and output be balanced. The kidneys can adjust the concentration of the urine to reflect the body's water needs, conserving water if the body is dehydrated or making urine more dilute to expel excess water when necessary. Your brain communicates with your kidneys and tells it how much water to excrete as urine or hold onto for reserves through the posterior pituitary gland. When you're low on fluids, the brain triggers the body's thirst mechanism. Naturally, you are meant to comply with those cues and get water in order to balance your body's fluids.

Drinking water helps control calories

Research has shown that drinking lots of water have been added as one of the major points in dieting. Its seen as a strategy that enables one substitute water which is very vital to the body in place of high-calorie beverages and all sort of coloured drinks that we find ourselves taking in between meals.  Food with high water content tends to look larger, its higher volume requires more chewing, and it is absorbed more slowly by the body, which helps you feel full.

Drinking water keeps the muscles Energizes

Adequate water intake has a way of keeping us energized all through the day. When cells don't maintain the fluids and electrolyte balance, it can lead to constant muscle fatigue. Hence, the importance of water to the muscle. People who exercise are advised to drink water more often than not and at regular intervals. It helps boost performance during strenuous activity. If we do not stay hydrated, physical performance could suffer.

Drinking water prevents constipation

Adequate Water intake also prevents constipation by maintaining normal bowel movement which aids things flowing along your Gastrointestinal tract and also preventing the Colon from pulling water from stools which in turn result in constipation.

Water helps prevent headaches and migraines

You often find yourself easily feeling headache when you are dehydrated. Dehydration can trigger headaches and migraines in some individuals depending on the type. Drinking water can sometimes help relieve headache symptoms, especially in people who are dehydrated. Staying hydrated helps you become more alert, composed, and focused, ultimately improving your productivity.

Health fact: humans can only survive 3 to 4 days without water.

Health / Health Benefits Of The Nigerian Local Rice by Oghogho0(m): 2:20pm On Feb 23, 2020
It's been said on the news that lots of sellers have laid complains that sales of the Nigerian local rice are not as fast as that of foreign because lots of customers look down on it.

"Local rice is always the second choice in their budget. They feel reluctant and sad when I suggest they buy Nigerian local rice. They are even ready to pay more for the foreign rice,” a popular seller known as iya ibeji at ipata market says.

There’s a common debate in Nigeria about which is better between Nigerian local rice and foreign rice. This argument always heats up when the Nigerian border is close i.e. there is prevention for the importation of rice. Nigerians normally do everything possible to get foreign rice or go on rice fast.

I believe that lots of Nigerians are not even enlightened as regards the health benefits of their very own produce. If we were more enlightened about the health benefits of our local rice, I believe we would gradually learn to embrace it more often than not. So  If Nigerian local rice isn’t as bad as it seems, what're the health benefits of the Nigerian local rice?

Nigerian locally grown rice also called unpolished or brown rice usually offers a lot when it comes to health benefits and it contains un-adulterated nutrients good for the body. These nutrients include carbohydrate, protein, fats, vitamins and minerals, iron, selenium, manganese etc.

One major Nigerian local rice is ofada rice. It is short and has brown stripes before cultivation without chemicals. Though not valued because of its local nature and unique smell, it is a perfect substitute for people who are not supposed to take white rice

Health benefits of Nigerian local rice

1. Aids digestion

One of the nutrients present in Nigerian/local rice is fibre. This rich fibre content helps in the digestion process thereby reducing and preventing digestion disorder.

It has about twice the fibre content of regular white rice. This high-fibre content plays a significant role in our digestion process. Contains two types of fibre: soluble and insoluble fibre.

The soluble fibre helps in retaining food in the stomach by slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach and gives a sense of satiety for a long period. This gives fullness after a meal, prevent overeating and weight gain.

While the insoluble fibre also known as cellulose is indigestible and has less transit time through the body. That’s why you can eat a very large serving of salad, which is almost all fibre and still eat very few calories.

2. Controls blood sugar and diabetes

Does this because of the presence of soluble fibre. Due to the cellulose and fibre content of Nigerian local rice, it is recommended for calorie management in health conditions such as diabetes.

3. Rich in carbohydrate

It has high carbohydrate content making it one of the carbohydrate food sources in Nigeria and also provides adequate energy because of its calorie content without necessarily causing weight gain.

4. Good for the bones

Due to the magnesium contained in Nigeria local rice, it helps in the bone structure and also helps in the absorption of calcium. The presence of magnesium in Nigerian local rice also helps in the maintenance and improvement of the nervous system.

5. Helps Curb/Prevent heart problems

The local rice is properly enriched with magnesium and selenium which are two important nutrients that are necessary for protecting the heart from cardiovascular-related diseases. So also the low saturated fat content is vital for the proper conditioning of the heart.

In addition to all this, Nigerian/local rice helps in reducing sleep disorder, has anti-ageing property, good for pregnant women, fights cancer, protects the heart, boosts your immunity, prevents constipation, perfect baby food etc.

Here are a few reasons why you should eat Nigerian/local rice instead of white rice

1. 3 times vitamin B3 as white rice
2. 10 times the vitamin B6 as white rice
3. It has twice the manganese and phosphorus as white rice.
4. 4 times the vitamin B1 as white rice

Education / 5 Types Of Goals That Will Help Take Your Life To The Right Direction by Oghogho0(m): 12:43am On Feb 22, 2020
We keep talking about goals in productivity either in the form of how to set goals or how it can be achieved. Hardly have we taken time to discuss types of goals. Before you go about setting and achieving that your goal, why not read along on the types of goals you can set.

First and foremost, let's take a look at what goals are.

Goals are often about anything in life, as long as it's something you set to realize within a timeframe. There are different types of goals you'll set to form your lifestyles better. for instance, you could set a goal to buy the latest iPhone at the time the year ends. To achieve this goal, you'll need to set smaller goals like saving 100 dollars every month or 30 dollars every week.

Funny enough, these goals can leave one blind to the reality on ground. How? some might ask. Your relationship and family might be lacking; for students, it might go a long way to affecting your academics; Generally, it might harm all other important areas in one's life.

To put things in shape and hold your lifestyles on track, the following are the forms of goals you must pay attention to and set. They will assist you to grow in your productivity, achieve incredible success, and live a balanced life.

Categories of Goals

All the types of goals we are are going to deliberate on as we proceed, all fall under one of these categories of goals. These categories are all time-based.

Nothing else helps you to invest your time wisely more than time-based goals. These can be in the form of short term, long term or lifetime goals.

Short term goals

These are goals that are short compared to all other categories. In reality, it's not as short as it may sound ( usually a span of 3months to 6months ).

They are often referred to as stepping stone goals. The reason behind that name is owned to the fact that it's usually cumulation of short term goals that lead to long term goals.

Short term goals are goals that you start right away. Examples of short term goals are:

Lose 10 pounds of weight in one month.
Increase income by 40% over the next six months.
Take 5 online mini-courses in 2 months.
Save up some money to enjoy a vacation later in the year.
Read a book every month.
Write two blog posts a day.
Save 20 dollars daily.

These stepping stone goals are what keeps us motivated to set higher goals and achieve them.

Long term goals

These are goals intended to be achieved in the future. you don't just wake up one morning and start chasing long term goals if there are no stepping stone goals already laid down to take you there.

It normally takes more than a year to achieve these goals. It's only the achievement of short term goals that will lead to success in these long term goals.

Some examples of long term goals are:

Graduate from college.
Save for retirement.
Have my own business.
Obtain a doctoral degree.
Land your dream job.
Buy your own house.
Get a promotion.
Change a career.

Long term goals connect you to your bigger purpose and give you a sense of direction. Achieving long term goals also brings lasting results. Imagine being able to buy your dream home, you will enjoy it for as long as you want.

Also, it leads to life goals. You can call it a stepping stone to life goals.

Lifetime goals

Lifetime goals are the bigger goals one wants to achieve in his/her lifetime. It keeps one satisfied with a life well spent.

It is tied to one's talent and passion. Most times, financial benefits are not motivators to achieve these goals.

Take a young evangelist, for example, his/her lifetime goals may be to win nothing less than 1million souls before his/her death.

Like Apostle Paul said in the Christian bible:

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

You can feel a sense of accomplishment all over it. That's how it feels when one achieve his/her lifetime goals.

Some examples of lifetime goals include:

Become country President at 40.
Become a TV Host, host the top hierarchy in the world of Politics, Business, Sports and Entertainment before turning 35.
Climb Mount Everest at 65.
Travel to all countries of the world before age 55.
Buy and develop a 100 hectares of land in Africa as retirement home and farm.
Stay fit and run the marathon at 80.

Setting these goals is usually not a problem. However, achieving it depends on how successful in other areas of your life that are important to you.

Types of goals

These are usually life-based goals and they all fall under the time-based goals explained earlier.

In other to achieve all-round success, it is paramount to set goals in all areas of your life. Failure to do so will see you attain success in only the areas you did set goals. That's why most people who attain financial success often miss out in other areas of their life. They just set financial goals because society has mistaken financial success for all-round success.

These goals range from Relationship goals, Academic goals, Career goals, Financial goals etc.

1. Academic goals

These are goals that are not necessarily needed by everyone.

They are normally goals set by someone at any level of formal or informal education to be able to attain a certain degree.

However, these goals are based on the level ones in. A child in the primary stage of education won't have the same type of goal with one in the tertiary stage.

Some examples of academic goals are:

Reading Skills Improvement.
Improving Math Skills.
Writing Skills Improvement.
Improving Focus & Concentration.
Improving Listening Skills.
Progressing to the Next Grade.
Learning extracurricular skills, like swimming or piano.

2. Career goals

Career goals are the most important goals in your professional life. However, one has to continually set these goals to get to the peak of his/her career. It can either be business goals for those into businesses or your job goals.

It falls under lifetime goals and it reflects your professional vision.

Examples of career goals are:

Earn a higher Degree or Executive Certification.
Become a Consultant in your field.
Rise to top management cadre within 5 years.
Increase your job performance metrics.
Find a job with better staff welfare package.

3. Financial goals

Financial goals are the goals we are accustomed to. Taking your career goals seriously often helps out too

However, these goals are in regards to savings, spending and investing. Balancing them accordingly often leads to financial success

Examples of Financial success include:

Paying off debt.
Saving for retirement.
Building an emergency fund.
Buying a home.
Saving for a vacation.
Starting a business.
Feeling financially secure.

4. Personal goals

Personal goals are goals you set for your personal development. It encompasses many other types of goals such as health and fitness goals, skincare goals etc.

These are set goals for the sole purpose of making you a better person in what you do, and also to let you live a better life. Nonetheless, it goes a long way in encouraging and motivating others around you.

Some examples of personal goals are:

Develop a habit of gratitude.
Stop procrastinating.
Wake up early.
Develop emotional intelligence.
Walk for 30 minutes a day.
Avoid foods with high cholesterol.
Keep a regular bedtime.
Quit smoking.
Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.
Moisturize daily.
Exfoliate regularly.

5. Relationship goals

Relationship goals are goals set to maintain a healthy relationship with the people around you. Be it family, friends or foes.

Examples of relationship goals include:

Eat more veggies to have a healthy family.
Create a weekly/monthly time out.
Have a daily family devotion/meditation.
Volunteer to do some chores for your spouse.
Find time for fun.
Understand each other.

Balancing all the aforementioned goals accordingly and achieving them often leads to all-round success. This is what we should all strive toward.

However, do well to make your goals S.M.A.R.T

What are S.M.A.R.T goals?

S.M.A.R.T is an acronym used to represent Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound (or Time-related). A goal that is not SMART is nothing but a vague goal and such can be hardly achieved.

Setting SMART goals begin with knowing what you want to achieve and what it takes to achieve them. Taking your goals through the SMART process can help you refine your ideas and redefine your goals.

SUMMARY

Going about your daily life without either setting goals or working towards a set goal is a failure on your part. Examine your life daily and locate areas where things can be better.

popular and well-renowned philosopher, Socrates said:

an unexamined life is not worth living

Examining alone is not the aim. Go ahead and set goals to make things better and work towards achieving it.

These goals cut across all areas of your life be it your health, fitness, career, business, academics, relationship, family, finances etc.

Start with the short term goals, which is a stepping stone to the long term goals. Failure to do so will prevent you from achieving your life goal you've always thought about all your life.

Lastly, setting goals will be a futile activity if the goals are not SMART. Make your goals SMART and you will find that achieving goals is not as difficult as they seem.

lol, elaboration is needed
Education / Dealing With Fears: 10 Genuine Ways To Deal With Fear by Oghogho0(m): 11:04pm On Feb 21, 2020
After getting to know secrets about fear, it's advisable to know the most effective ways to deal with fear.

Fear is an emotion; emotions are signal, not a conclusion. They are indicators on how you feel about a particular situation or experience. The fact that you feel afraid doesn’t mean you have been defeated. It’s just a way of making you know the situation of things. And also, for you to feel the sense of urgency in dealing with the situation.

You must be wondering if fear really is an emotion and emotions are signals, what then is the information that fear is trying to give?

Fearful emotions exist in different levels; from low levels of concern and apprehension to intense worry, anxiety, fright, and even terror. Fear serves a purpose, and its message is simple.

Here’s the big secret, fear is simply the anticipation that something that's going to happen soon needs to be prepared for. The trick is to either prepare to cope with the situation, or to do something to change it. The tragedy is that most people either try to deny their fear, or they wallow in it. Neither of these approaches is respecting the message that fear is trying to deliver, so it will continue to pursue you as it tries to get its message across. You don't want to surrender to fear and amplify it by starting to think of the worst that could happen, nor do you want to pretend it's not there.

10 Genuine ways to deal with fear

The message fear is trying to give is so simple so also is the solution to fear simple. Don’t stop reading now as we prepare to unveil the things you must do to deal with fear.

1) Know Yourself & Know your Fears

Try to learn more about your fear or anxiety. You can try setting yourself small, achievable goals for facing your fears. You could carry with you a list of things that help at times when you are likely to become frightened or anxious.

Get specific about what exactly you’re afraid of. Pay attention to the pictures you have in your head about the situation. What is happening in them? What are you really scared of? You can't deal with what you don't even know. Some people are just scared, they don't know what they are scared of. Become an observer of your Innerspace, know yourself and know your fears.

2) Accept yourself but don't accept your fears

After knowing yourself and knowing your fears, the next step is obviously accepting yourself for who you are but intentionally choosing not to accept your fears. When you accept your fears, you settle and decide to get comfortable with them rather than try overcoming them.

You can come in terms with yourself about your fears and understand your anxiety but knowing them as well as knowing how they affect you doesn't mean you should embrace them and welcome them or accept them as who you are. You are not your fears. Only when you believe you can overcome them, only then would you be able to.

3) Learning About your fears

Learning about your fears can also help you in dealing with them. How then do you learn about them? You could do this by reading about them & inquiring. Reading a good book on your specific fear and learning more about it can open new doors on how you can get rid of it. You might even be able to seek the opinion of others who might have had or have the same phobia as you. Then, get their opinions on how they tackled it.

4) Deal with it at its early stage

Remember, the best time to handle an emotion is when you first begin to feel it. It's much more difficult to interrupt an emotional pattern once it's full-blown. The idea is to kill the monster while it's little. Deal with it as soon as the action signal makes itself known, and you’ll find yourself being able to quickly handle virtually any emotion. So always keep in mind that the earlier you deal with your fears, the better. Else, it could get the best of you.

5) Always remind yourself of previous fears you overcame

Most likely you must have had fears that you probably didn't want to face but were forced to and luckily you overcame it. In the process of dealing with your fears in the early stage, you could use these previous experiences as templates and hope to get through the present and future. Always dwell on the brighter memories rather than the bad ones. And with this, you can always remind yourself that if you could do it before, you can do it again.

6)  Push yourself & do it more

Always learn to remind yourself that every time you don’t allow fear to keep you from doing something that scares you, then you are making yourself stronger and less likely to let the next fear attack stop you. If you are afraid of flying, why not try flying more if you can. Because the more you do, the less it scares you.

We would all agree that most of our fears are things that at some point or the other we might still be forced to face. So why not just get accustomed to it now than later because it's always better now than later. The more we always remind ourselves of this, we would always be more willing to give it a try. Push yourself much more with this daily i.e handling your fears and facing it head-on

7)  Always face it

It is human nature to avoid emotions that scare us.  Who wants to walk directly into what promises to be a painful experience? By continually avoiding looking at the ‘boogeyman’ within, you become hostage to the monster.

Moreover, how long do you think you can hide and shy away from your fears? forever? Certainly not. So why not just face it. Mind you, facing your fears here doesn't involve going into the lion's Den because you are scared of lions. Hey, Daniel didn't leave his house to go and have some good time with the lions inside their Den(lol).

Facing your fears here means if you know you are scared of public speaking then try to accept speaking more often. Only then would you slowly get used to it as well as overcome it. Most times when I fear things like this I lowkey tell myself "what's the worse thing that can happen after all? if it happens then fine" so I am prepared for the worst even while hoping for the best.

Fears are just fears that are created by our imagination to make reality seem scarier than it is. When you take action and face your fears, they become weaker.

cool  Deflate your worst fears with humour

Why not trying having a little sense of humour and joking about those things you're scared about. When you do, you tend to reduce the fear you have for them.

For instance, what are some ridiculous worst-case scenarios that might happen if you accept an invitation to deliver a speech to a large crowd? 'I might pee in my pants at the podium',  'I will be arrested for giving the worst speech in history'  and before you give the speech you could probably announce to the crowd that they should please not arrest you. People would probably laugh and you would most likely reduce your tension and be more at ease. Same applies to other scenarios you might find yourself in.

life is too short to be too scared and too serious. Why not live, love and  laugh it off - DollyMchottney

9) Mastering Calmness

Mastering the art of being calm could help to keep you in a relaxed state in most situations. Learning to be relaxed and calm helps us a great deal in moments of anxiety when we can barely think. But when calm we are able to think better in order to proffer a solution.

Learning relaxation techniques can help you with the mental and physical feelings of fear. Also, it can help just to drop your shoulders and breathe deeply.

10) Positivity

Just as "With pessimism comes limitation",  so also "With Negativity comes fear"

So if our negativity can increase our anxiety, what do you think our positivity would do? The opposite, right? Instead of thinking of the worse that your fear could result to, why not think of the best and be motivated by your optimism.

Using the same public speaking as an example. I earlier said most times I usually whisper what's the worst thing that could happen? people would laugh at me? so? would I die? But then look on the brighter side. What's the best that could happen? for this, isn't it worth a try? Then Go for it.

Even if it doesn't go as planned or as you might have anticipated, still be glad and applaud yourself for trying. When you realize that failure is not the end of the world, you become free and will be able to deal with and overcome your fears.

THE SOLUTION:

Review what you were feeling fearful about and evaluate what you must do to prepare yourself mentally. Figure out what actions you need to take to deal with the situation in the best possible way. Sometimes we've done all the preparation we could for something; there's nothing else we can do—but we still sit around in fear. This is the point when you must use the antidote to fear: you must make a decision to have faith, knowing you've done all you can to prepare for whatever you're fearing, and that most fears in life rarely come to fruition.   (Anthony Robbins)

Education / 10 Must Know Secrets About Fear by Oghogho0(m): 10:39pm On Feb 21, 2020
Introduction to the secrets about fear

Many often grow up feeling something is wrong with them or probably begin to have a little low self-esteem because of a feeling called fear. Well, do you really think you are the only one who has got a fair share of it? I guess not.

We all have a fair share of fear. It's a natural feeling though. Some people are easily more frightened than others but then we all experience fear at some point or the other in our lives. So no one is really totally fear-free because deep down we all have something we are afraid of or afraid of losing. You are not alone, feel free to take pleasure in that.

Fear is one of the most basic human emotions. It is programmed into the nervous system and works like an instinct. From the time we're infants, we are equipped with the survival instincts necessary to respond with fear when we sense danger or feel unsafe.

Well before learning how to deal, tackle and face our fears head-on, there are certain facts and secrets about fear that we need to understand

10 Must know secrets about fear

Fear influences reality

Back then when I was little, I had problems walking in the dark. When there’s a standing object around, probably a standing fan and cloth hung on it, it distorts the true reality and what I now see is a man standing all because of fear. This is where it becomes tricky. I often think that the imaginary person is there to cause harm.

That’s where the problem is, why must I think that I’m about to be harmed? why didn’t I think that the person is coming to do something good whatsoever to/for me? Guess what! The problem is not in the room but in the fear already present before entering the room. This example might be trivial but that’s how it works for big issues also. When you allow your fear to take control, it influences the true reality and then give you more reasons to be afraid.

Fear cannot be completely eliminated

Just like I illustrated earlier, we all have an atom of fear. So also we would always have something we are afraid of or afraid of losing no matter how fearless we seem to be because we are humans.

The truth still remains that fear cannot be completely eliminated. Nobody is fearless, just that some persons are too fearful. Don’t be too fearful to take action, rather your fear should only make you careful not restrain you.

Fear has an element of importance

How is it possible when we were taught to always be brave and not be scared of anything. also, we were taught to shun fear and face problems head-on.... how then is it necessary? Well, it can be the voice of reason, caution, and practicality that serves you well at times. So it is not a total enemy because sometimes fear enables us to consciously make some wise decisions.

Personally, I think fear is very necessary in life, yeah!  it puts you to work if you really don’t want to see the worst happening. For example, if you are afraid of what your future will look like, that can trigger an uncommon zeal in you to avoid a bad future.

Fear can be inherited

Surprised? Well, don't be. There is considerable evidence in humans, derived largely from studies of adopted children, and identical and fraternal twins reared together or apart, that a tendency toward anxiety and fear is a heritable trait.

So, fear can be passed down from parents to offspring without even realizing. However, Fear and anxiety are influenced by many genes; so there is actually no such thing as a simple "fear" gene that is inherited from one generation to the next.

Rather, The genes controlling neurotransmitters and their receptors are all present in several different forms in the general population. The particular combinations of these different forms that we receive from our parents will predispose us to respond with greater or lesser degrees of anxiety to events in our environment.

But the degree to which our lives are affected by this inherited predisposition will depend to a very large extent on our individual histories.

Fear can be learned

Fear is a universal survival mechanism

Phelps said in her talk. “Some of the most important things we can learn in life are what situations and events represent danger or threat. In humans, this type of information is often communicated through social interaction.”

Fear can be learned through direct experience with a threat, but it can also be learned via social means such as verbal warnings or observing others. Phelps’s research has shown that the expression of socially learned fears shares neural mechanisms with fears that have been acquired through direct experience.

Resisting fear strengthens it

Learn to embrace your fears sometimes without allowing it to get the best of you. Because the more you resist & deny your fear, the stronger it only becomes. Understanding and embracing your fear is actually one of the ways to tackle your fears.

The goal is not to get rid of fear, as you don’t have the power to make this happen. But you do have the power to change the way you relate to fear.

Fear makes us pessimists

There is a very interesting behaviour that people usually display when confronting a tough situation. Most people tend to look at the most negative possibilities when they are dealing with a new situation. We tend to look at all the worst-case scenarios, but rarely imagine the best-case scenarios.

Fear makes us think that something negative will happen when the future is indeed a misery. Become comfortable with not knowing what the future holds, so that fear won't rule you.

Fear Limits You

With pessimism comes limitation - DollMchottney

This is where fear can be limiting. It’s almost impossible for you to pursue something if you think that the outcome will be negative.

Of course, fear can be a good thing like we've earlier mentioned, but it should not incapacitate your ability to think clearly. Fear triggers an interesting phenomenon in us. We start to see and imagine things that are most likely not going to happen.

Often times, we want to do something or achieve a certain goal but due to fear of failure, our zeal gets crumbled and we find ourselves being limited by our own fears. You haven't even tried and you feeling what if I fail? shouldn't I just manage/settle with what I already have? Now, that's fear and that's a limitation.

Fear can't be avoided

Some times as a means to deal with our fears we try to avoid them. Well, you don't exactly deal with something by trying to avoid it. So rather than trying to conquer fear in general, we're going to be working on developing a healthier relationship with it which involves facing it head-on.

Fear can be dealt with

Deal with fear for what it is, do not amplify your fears, do not justify them, they are not yet real. Don’t give fear powers that it does not have naturally. Fear is an emotion; it is better we leave it that way.

So, don’t make the mistake of running from your fears, they are part of life. Life and fear exist together. It will never leave until dealt with.

Education / 6 Simple Changes That Will Make Your Brain Work Better by Oghogho0(m): 3:08am On Feb 21, 2020
In the quest for personal development and self-growth, we often emphasize on other areas of our life, leaving out the most important part of our body "the brain".

The brain is one of the organs in the human body. Though it's not the largest, it's the central organ. It is responsible for the coordination of all parts of the human body.

It controls most of the activities of the body be it processing, integrating, and coordinating the information it receives from the sense organs and making decisions as to the instructions sent to the rest of the body.

So, Even as you step out to the gym to train your muscles to keep fit, or you visit your physician to make sure your health is intact, it is also advisable to train your brain daily so it doesn't dwindle.

Lack of this proper training is what is responsible for brains that are not sharpened, poor mental performance, and loss of memory as we age. This is not supposed to be the case, the human brain is supposed to keep improving as will age. Read along, I'll explain what I mean by that.

According to the great philosopher, John Locke:

Man at birth is at a state of tabula rasa

In short, a man at birth knows nothing. As we grow, we continually learn at a very fast rate between infant and teenage age. The knowledge acquired during this period is very much and it shows in how sharp our brain is at that time.

A stage comes where we don't learn new things compared to what we do before. An accountant will sit down all day repeating the same task for years, same goes with a lot of other professions. As the learning process reduces, the sharpness of the brain reduces too. They have a direct relationship.

This has made humans have a curve where they know nothing to where their brains are better off (not even close to its peak), back to the know-nothing stage. only a few have had a straight line curve between age and a sharp brain. If you ever take your time to study them, you'll find out they improved their knowledge every day of their life till they eventually kicked the bucket.

Some numerous changes and habits can be cultivated that will make your brain work better. However, we'll be looking at just 6 so we don't bore you with an unnecessarily long article

6 Simple Changes That Will Make Your Brain Work Better

Let's take a look at the simple changes that will make the brain work better:

Eat a brain-boosting diet

Any balanced diet is good for the body or brain. However, if you wish to boost your brain better, I'll advise you to take more fish, fruits and vegetables. Also, dark chocolates goes a long way in boosting one's brain.

Commit to a physical exercise

As well as helping your physique by keeping you fit, physical exercise also keeps the brain healthy.  It increases oxygen to your brain and reduces the risk for disorders that lead to memory loss, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

However, exercises should be moderate. It's not a punishment. Except you are training hard for a competition (sports), I'll advise that 20mins of exercise is ok for the day.

Avoid stress

Try as much as possible to stay away from things, situation, people, an occasion that will stress you.

Stress can come from inadequate sleep too. The brain is also meant to rest, and it does that when you rest. Quit stressing your brain. instead, you work, then give it time to rest and then resume. It will be more effective that way.

Spend time with loved ones

Spending time with loved ones often reduces the stress on the brain. When you are relaxed, joyful, and happy, the brain tends to be on its best behaviour too.

It's even a form of rest for the brain as I explained earlier. Whenever you have a chance to spend quality time with a loved one, even if your body is not willing; for the love of the brain, don't miss such an opportunity.

Talking with others and engaging with your loved ones helps you think more clearly, and it can also lift your mood. This will help reenergize the brain.

Clear the mind

Spending time with loved ones is one of the ways you can clear your mind. Other ways you can go about this, is to exempt your self from any mental activity for a particular time.

Like taking a stroll in the neighbourhood, going to the cinemas etc.

Continually learn something new

The world is dynamic, why be any different?

Continually repeating one task or event doesn't give the right boost required for your brain to get better with age. Seize any knowledge you come across. If you don't come across any, seek them. Be mentally active. As usual; even if you are active, always take a little break to relax the brain. it's an organ, it needs rest too.

Watch this powerful video that will reveal to you how far your brain can grow even as you age
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMZCghZ1hB4&t=684s

Even as we go about training the brain, it's important to know how the brain works. By this I mean, one has to know the right path to take to make sure the brain retains the right and important pieces of information.

How to make the human brain Remember more

The human brain remembers more when:

1. Thinking in pictures and colours.
2. Making connections between ideas.
3. Creating association with existing knowledge and information.
4. Categorizing information into groups, chunks and related segment.
5. visiting https://www.prettylifestylez.com/category/blog/personal-development/ daily

Summary

In as much as most humans tend to lose their brain sharpness as they age, doesn't make the declining path the brain takes with age right. There lots of ways we can retain this sharpness. Examples are eating healthy foods (most importantly fish, fruit and vegetable); exercising regularly and moderately, avoiding stress, relaxing the mind, learning something new etc.

I also gave a few hints on how to make the brain work best. They include; thinking in pictures and colours, making a connection with an existing idea, visiting this blog daily etc.

Health / 5 Working Steps To A Healthy Permanent Weight Loss by Oghogho0(m): 1:16am On Feb 21, 2020
One of the biggest single problem people have today is overeating and becoming overweight. It’s easier to overeat and become overweight than to eat less and attain some permanent weight loss.

From statistics, more than 60 per cent of Americans are officially overweight, and more than 30 per cent are obese. Obesity is being more than 30 per cent of the normal weight. There is arguably no area in which self-discipline is more necessary than in getting your weight under control and then keeping it under control for the rest of your life.

Diets don’t work

What these mean that no matter how you starve yourself to lose weight, you’ll most likely get the weight back as soon as you eat. Reasons being that we all have a metabolic rate i.e. the amount of energy used by an animal per unit of time. This metabolic rate is set over the course of your lifetime by the amount of food you eat to the amount of exercise you do to burn it off.

People diet and lose weight with the idea that as soon as they dropped a certain number of pounds, they can reward their self by overeating. That is to say that they use the idea of filling up on food as the reward for losing weight in the first place.

It will be more profitable if you reward yourself with gifts that do not involve food like buying clothes that fit your new look, by going for vacations with family and friends and placing a bet with a friend that you’ll retain your weight loss for at least a year.

We all have a set point, that is where your weight is set like a thermostat and to which your weight returns no matter how you diet. To lose weight permanently, you must reduce your set point. This can be done by a gradual process of permanently changing the quality and quantity of what you eat without intending to go back. Remember, if you are overweight, it has taken you many years to get to where you were today. Be prepared to invest a lot of time getting back.

5 Working Steps to a Healthy Permanent Weight Loss

Below are a few steps to be taken for permanent weight loss:

Be ready

Losing weight is a decision and you should be ready to go extra miles to achieve this. Just like all things, consistency is key and this also requires mental readiness and preparation because losing weight requires time and effort.

Set goals

There is no standard to weight loss. Whoever is losing weight knows the setpoint he wants his weight to be. This is you setting goal to what you will weigh and maintaining it forever if need be. When setting goals you also need to keep in mind that they have got to be safe and realistic goals. Setting goals enables you to have a perfect layout of what you're aiming at or hope to achieve.

Monitor yourself

Just like everything, it is a gradual process and one can monitor his/her improvement. The best way I normally recommend is using clothes. You can easily know how far you’ve gone by how well your clothes fit you or don’t fit you. You could also try weighing yourself from time to time. Monitoring yourself enables you to keep yourself in check as well as Instill self-discipline.

Exercise

The role of exercise in weight loss cannot be overemphasized. The main key to weight loss is burning as much calories as possible and exercising is the best way to doing just that. Exercising also helps increase metabolism as well as lean body mass.  Some great choices for burning calories include walking, jogging, running, cycling, swimming, weight training, interval training, yoga, and Pilates. Many other exercises can also help boost your weight loss efforts.

Eat moderately

This is healthy eating by getting a variety of food in moderation and not making any food forbidden. Eating a moderate and varied diet can help with weight loss, weight control and help you stay healthy. Moderation, however, is a subjective term. Still, guidelines can help you take in a reasonable amount of food. You just need to pay attention to them.  Also, don’t go overboard on food that does not support weight loss.

These foods include:

Sugar

Eliminating the intake of sugar helps in losing weight permanently and helps to enjoy high levels of health and energy. These simple sugars should be avoided and they are contained in candy, cake, pastries, soft drinks, canned food and all other forms of sugar that people consume in large quantities every day. You require no additional sugar to enjoy superb levels of physical health. Simply by eliminating all sugar and its products from your life can make you lose as much as one pound per day.

Salt

Eliminating salts will go a long way to helping you lose weight. The more salt in your body, the more your body retains water to balance your system. If the reverse is the case, you can drink as much glass of water as you need and take them out as they refresh your body. Reduce your salt intake today as the majority of the food we take already contains salt and there is no need to pack additional salt in meals.

White flour products

There is no food value in white flour product. They are inert substances from which all nutrients have been removed. These meals include bread, pasta, buns, rolls and anything else made with white flour.

Some Types of Alcohol (Especially Beer)

Alcohol provides more calories than carbs and protein, about 7 calories per gram. Drinking alcohol in moderation seems to be fine and is actually linked to reduced weight gain. Heavy drinking, on the other hand, is associated with increased weight gain. So If you are trying to lose weight, you may want to consider cutting back on alcohol or skipping it altogether.

The bottom line is to reduce your intake of highly processed foods and take more proteins because it is the most important macronutrient when it comes to losing weight. Not only will it help you lose weight, but it also helps you avoid re-gaining weight if you ever decide to abandon your weight loss efforts.

Health / Drinking Water Health Benefits : 15 Health Benefits Of Drinking Water by Oghogho0(m): 10:00pm On Feb 20, 2020

Education / 5 Highly  effective Time Management Principles by Oghogho0(m): 8:56pm On Feb 19, 2020
  Introduction to Time Management Principles

We are so hooked up with so many activities in a day that we sometimes feel 24hrs is just not enough. I don't know about you but I do know I get that feeling from time to time. Like there is so much to do but so little time to get things done. While some others complain about how slow time is moving, most times I am left with great astonishment and a little wonder because I just can't relate.

So, sitting in my room pondering on why this might be. I came up with the conclusion that I probably lack proper time management. Come to think of it, we all have the same 24hrs but yet some people are doing the most and achieving a whole lot while some others are sitting around the corner whining on how time is just not enough. Should we whine or should we change it?

Time is a created thing. To say 'I don't have time' is like saying, 'I don't want to' – Lao Tzu.

In a scenario like this, I trust Nigerian parents, they would be like "those who are achieving a lot with the same 24hrs do they have two heads?"(LOL). Well, I'm positive that we can all answer that. So I say that to say this; What's the difference? And the answer is pretty simple - TIME MANAGEMENT!

Of course, I am pretty sure the word is not new to anyone. The same way it wasn't while hearing it in a seminar I was opportune to attend. What would I gain if I don't share some important points with you?  But before properly going into Time management and its principles, we need to understand what Time is. Because just as they say;

When the value of a thing isn't known, abuse is inevitable

So do you know what time is and its value?

WHAT IS TIME?

Time is the passage of seconds, minutes, hours, days, years, etc. It is the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues (in other words - duration). It could also be defined as a  nonspatial continuum that is measured in terms of events which succeed one another from past through the present to the future.

In Africa, time is probably seen as a sec, a min or an hour after an agreed time. The popular term for this is known as "African time". Well, this is wrong and this mentality has made many of us abusers of time because when a program, event, or even class is set for a particular time, we believe it would most likely not start at that time. This is where time mismanagement starts from. Well, you need to understand that time means what it says it means, there's no other definition.

What is Time Management?

The ability to weigh your pros and cons is management. While Time management is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific activities, especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. It is the ability to choose your sequence and succession of events by yourself within a certain period.

Why do you want to manage your time?

We begin to want to manage our time when we have come to understand the value of this time. Because this value is what determines how we live and run our lives.

THE PRINCIPLES OF TIME MANAGEMENT

Time operates within certain principles. And when you follow a certain principle, no matter who you are, it would work for you. Even if you don't believe in it but you sincerely follow a principle properly, it would still work for you.

The easiest way to be a success is to follow the principles of successful people

1. The Pareto Principle

80/20 rule

The Pareto principle is also known as the 80/20 rule. It is based on the ideas of an Italian economist called Vilfredo Pareto, whose observations were initially based largely on the distribution of wealth. In other words, he saw that 20 per cent of people owned 80 per cent of the wealth. The remaining 80 per cent control only 20 per cent of the wealth. Over time it was realised that the same principle could be applied to many areas.

You are probably wondering how this got to do with Time management. Well, it's simple. In terms of time management, this principle goes further to explain that you can accomplish 80% of your task with just 20% of the time available. Which also means that 20% of the things you have to do can take up to 80% of your time with poor activity allocation and poor time management. The Pareto analysis is an easy but time-intensive method to manage your time and improve your productivity.

Prime Time

In line with the 80/20 rule is the idea of ‘Prime Time’. It is found that not only do 20 per cent of your efforts account for 80 per cent of your results but also that your best efforts occur in 20 per cent of the day. In other words, most people are found to be somewhat inefficient for 80 per cent of their time. If someone is found to have a time in the day that is more productive than other times, this is when they should carry out their priority work and this is the time of the day they should protect themselves against distractions and diversions.

2. The 90/10 & 10/90 Principle

90/10 rule

According to this principle: 10 per cent of your activities will account for 90 per cent of your results. This in turn also means that If you have a list of ten items to accomplish, only one of those items will turn out to be worth more than the other nine items put together. Sadly, most people procrastinate on the “vital few” and busy themselves with the least important 90 per cent, the “trivial many,” which contribute very little to their success.

To apply this rule, First, take a piece of paper and write down ten goals. Then ask yourself: If you could only accomplish one of the goals on that list today, which one goal would have the greatest positive impact on your life?

Endeavour to work on those important goals. It doesn't necessarily mean you must abandon the other 90% but rather you could either delegate or automate it but just accomplish the biggest task 1st and allocate little time to the trivial least important many.

10/90 rule

This principle means that the first 10% of the time that you spend planning and organising your work before you begin will save you as much as 90% of the time in getting the job done once you get started.

Take cutting down a tree for example and you spend 10min in sharpening your tool, it might seem like a waste of time but rather it's a saver of time because the sharper your tool, the quicker your work.

So always take out time to plan first before you start or begin to jump into activities because when you do, you save time. These rules are basically about planning, when and how you do your work.

3. The Bank Balance Principle

The same way you have financial budgets, you should also have time budgets. What happens when your bank account is empty? it means there is no money available right? So, determine what time is available and allocate its use in advance. This principle tends to simply teach us how to develop a time budget.

4. The Limited Resource Principle

This principle brings to light the fact that time is a Limited life resource just like money. There are no 2 ways about it, what you put into it is what it return to you just like Garbage in Garbage out. Hence the popular phrase "Time is Money".

5. The Forced Efficiency Principle

You often hear people say " I wish I had more time" when they feel overwhelmed. When you consider something to be important to you, you find time for it. Now you would probably be thinking ' does it now mean that most of the things that you want to do are probably not important because if they are you would create time for it?' Well most likely or you've not prioritized them or just mismanaging time because if they are, you would most likely create time

You wake up very early in the morning & get ready for an 8 am class or work, not because you want to but because you believe you have to. Now think about it; If you can meet deadlines set for you by someone why can't you meet the deadline set for yourself. This principle is simply saying 'Set Deadlines for yourself'.

There is never enough time to do everything but there is always enough time to do important things with the time available. To succeed with proper time management, some time management skills would be required.

Romance / 5 Strategic Things He Says When All He Wants Is Sex by Oghogho0(m): 8:24pm On Feb 19, 2020
The male species oftentimes crave sex that they are ready to go the extra mile to get it. They are willing to tell you the sweetest of lies and much romantic nonsenses just to have their way.

However, if you're are an intelligent young lady, you would most likely know from the start where he is heading to.

Things He Says When All He Wants Is Sex

1. BABY GIRL, YOU ARE SEXY

A smart lady with brains needs no prophet to tell her that this is not a compliment but a strategy to get her emotions giddy. When a man says you're Sexy, that simply implies that he sees you as sexually attractive and been sexually attractive you're nothing more to a great extent than a Sexual Object. When he says you're sexy, that Implies that most likely he has X-rayed every single part of your body from the crown of your head to the sole of your foot in the Sexual laboratory of his mind.

In his thoughts, he has stripped you naked via the machinery of his eyes,  and jumping into bed with you is his next goal. Pardon me to say, only naive and ladies with low self-worth would accept such a compliment after all he is just expressing his thoughts...Yes! thoughts of vandalising the private pearls in between your legs.

2. EVERYBODY IS DOING IT!

Aunty this is the most senseless lie you could ever hear from an uncle. The lie that everybody is doing it. everybody is doing it? Why didn't he join the Armed robbers in his street! Everybody is doing it? Why didn't he join those who are begging at the junction? How come it's your vagina he wants to come and do. Let no man fool you that everyone does it, and even if everyone does it, not you. Tell him I'm not everyone. Am Me & I won't do it.

3. WHO CARES ABOUT BEING A VIRGIN SELF?

Well, some people do! Often, most men use this strategy just to make light of the fact that they are intentionally trying to get in between your legs. if after selling you everybody does it strategy fails to work. Now they intend to mock the fact that you're either a virgin or you have chosen celibacy till marriage by saying nobody cares. Well, some people care. Knowing fully well that once he drills that precious pearl of yours,  he is going to disappear into thin air running after his next prey after all he has won the bet on you.

4. IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL HAVE SEX WITH ME

This strategy is often employed by those in a relationship. And a statement like this from a guy tells you where his priority about the relationship lies. Sex! When he begins to disturb you with this national anthem, just know you're in a relationship with an slowpoke whose manhood has been set on fire from the village. If he loves you, he won't disturb you about making love to him. Making love to someone does not equate Loving Someone.

5. YOUR REAL SHAPE WON'T COME OUT UNTIL YOU START HAVING SEX!

This is often the strategy employed by some young guys when they discover a particular girl has low self-esteem about her body build. Common victims are those with small boobs and small bum. They lie to them that once they start having sex with them their boobs will shoot out and their bum will be like Kim Kardashian.
Well, my sister have sense oooo, because what makes most girls fat after they start having sex is not the sex itself but the side effects of the contraceptive pills most for them use.

Now that you know, I don't expect you to fall prey to any man with the above-listed strategies.

Truthfully, I must tell you these are not the entirety of their seductive arsenals, but this is a start in withstanding their seductive prowess and maintaining your dignity.

Else someday, they will discuss you over a bottle of beer and laugh the hell outta you.

Health / Things You Never Knew About The PUD - Peptic Ulcer Disease by Oghogho0(m): 11:51pm On Feb 18, 2020
Have you ever had this burning sensation in your stomach, and it radiates towards your chest and your back? and it mostly occurs when you've not eaten? well, you're most likely experiencing what I like to call the PUD. Well, what does PUD mean?

It's an acronym that stands for peptic ulcer disease. Peptic ulcer disease is not your regular stomach pain, shocker, it's worse. It's one of those diseases which you classify as an auto-immune disease(disease condition in which the body fights against itself).

Things to know about Peptic Ulcer Disease

The first thing you should know about PUD, is that the stomach secretes gastric acid (hydrogen chloride), don't be scared we all secrete an amount of this acid, and it helps in digestion of food and destruction of infectious microorganisms that have been ingested when eating or drinking.

There's also a membrane layer in your Stomach called the gastric mucosal layer, this layer in combination with hydrogen bicarbonate secreted by the body, called the mucus-bicarbonate layer, protects the stomach from the gastric acid... don't worry just keep on following.

As important as this gastric acid is in digesting food substances when there's no food in the stomach, it tends to digest the mucosal layer because this mucosal layer is proteinous too.

Normally, this gastric acid and mucosal layer are in equilibrium, that means they are formed in an amount that compliments each other. However, in some disordered cases, the gastric acid is secreted at an amount much more than the mucosal layer formed, and this denatures the mucosal wall.

This gives rise to painful injuries in the stomach. When spicy foods are taken; the salts, pepper etc in your food or the hot tea you take, it stimulates the nerve exposed in those injuries, and causes the painful sensation that we feel... I hope you get this.

Imagine pouring salt in an opened injury, or putting pepper or hot water. it'll be painful right? That's the same reason you get this stomach pain when you eat that spicy food. The breakdown of the mucus-bicarbonate layer is called ulceration, while the disease condition is called a peptic ulcer.

Risk factors for Peptic Ulcer Disease

These are factors that enhance the chances for you having a peptic ulcer.

They include;

1. Smoking and alcohol consumption which are the major causes of peptic ulcer disease.
2. Improperly managed stress can also cause an ulcer.
3. Medical conditions like gastritis, Crohn's disease, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney failure, infection with Helicobacter pylori, etc are also risk factors.
4. Some drugs are also risk factors for peptic ulcer disease. The most common class of drugs are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Panadol and ibuprofen. Other drugs include oral corticosteroids, bisphosphonates, etc.

Treatment and Management of PUD

Drugs for the treatment and management of peptic ulcer disease are readily available.

So all you need to do is get to a physician, run some tests, and get your prescription. The most important way to manage the disease is by lifestyle changes i.e. certain habits should be stopped such as smoking, alcohol consumption etc. Also, keep the environment clean to prevent infection from Helicobacter pylori.

Hope you've learnt something?

Health / Hypertension -the Silent Killer by Oghogho0(m): 6:26pm On Feb 18, 2020
What comes to your mind after reading the heading? Something that kills without you knowing about it? If this was your thought, then you are on the right track. Not to worry, there are a lot of ways to reduce the power of this “silent killer” be it a hitman, assassin, hypertension, diabetes or death.

Is death a killer? I have no idea too

What is this silent killer? This silent killer is known as hypertension. The reason why hypertension is also called the silent killer is that it’s asymptomatic at the beginning (i.e. the symptoms wouldn’t show at the beginning), so you might have hypertension and may not know about it.

What is hypertension? Okay, before I continue, there are some keywords I think you should know;

KEYWORDS IN HYPERTENSION
Blood pressure
Systole
Diastole
Blood vessels
Lumen

Do not be worried about these big words, I would explain them in the easiest way.

Okay, let’s go. I hope we all know what the blood is, and we know that the heart pumps the blood to various organs in the body. So how does the blood get to the organs? They get to the organs through the blood vessels (veins, arteries, capillaries). Think of the blood vessels as transport buses, the blood as their passengers, and the organs (brain, liver, kidney, etc.) as their destination.

Now, the blood vessels are like pipes, like the pipes in our houses, but they are way smaller in size and cylindrical in nature. These vessels have a hollow passageway within them, this passageway is called the lumen (try not to forget this, it is very critical in explaining what hypertension is).

So, this blood passes through the lumen in the blood vessels to get to their destination. Diastole and systole are phases in the beating of the heart. Systole is the period of contraction of the heart. This contraction enables the heart to pump out blood into the blood vessels. Just imagine the systole phase doesn’t happen ehn? The person is gone oh.

Okay, back to track. The diastole is a phase in which the heart relaxes. This relaxation allows blood to flow into the heart and undergoes some processes (would be explained in another topic) and pumped out again.

WHAT IS BLOOD PRESSURE

Now, what is blood pressure? Wait, before I answer the question ehn, I want to clear the air of a contradictory statement that has been on a while. blood pressure is not hypertension, I repeat blood pressure is not hypertension. If blood pressure is hypertension, then everyone would be hypertensive. Blood pressure is the pressure that the blood exerts on the blood vessels, as it moves through the lumen of the blood vessels. Do you understand?

This blood pressure is expressed as a ratio of the systolic blood pressure to the diastolic blood pressure.

With this, we can now fully define hypertension.

WHAT IS HYPERTENSION

Hypertension is a sustained increase in blood pressure i.e. sustained high blood pressure, that’s all.

In hypertension, the lumen decreases in diameter thus there is a smaller passageway for the blood to pass through. So, the blood has to apply more pressure on the walls of the vessels, so that it can pass through successfully. When this increased pressure becomes persistent, it leads to hypertension.

This blood pressure has a normal range, from 120/90 to 130/90  is normal for an adult, but when it increases to 140/90, then that’s when the trouble will start. At first, when it gets to 140/90, you will not experience any symptom, and that’s how it’ll be until it increases to about 180/100. This blood pressure level is called a hypertensive emergency. At this stage, the patient will start to see signs of organ damage such as blurry visions, kidney failure, fatigue, tiredness, confusion, headaches, etc. I hope you are following?

RISK FACTORS

There are some factors (called risk factors) that make an individual more likely to be hypertensive. They include; stress, excessive alcohol consumption, age (from 40 and above, few cases include younger individuals), excessive salt intake, obesity, race (studies have shown that Africans are more likely to be hypertensive than Caucasians), using tobacco, weed, too little potassium in your diet, physical inactivity, genetics.

SOLUTION

If you find out that you’re hypertensive, no problem, there are a lot of drugs that can be used to manage hypertension. Funny enough, they are not even expensive. So, meet a doctor, run some tests and get your prescription and please complete your prescription.

Those of us that are not hypertensive (having a normal blood pressure), are not exempted oh. Watch the food you eat, exercise regularly, eat fruits and check your blood pressure regularly.

There is some automatic sphygmomanometer (the machine used to check blood pressure), that you can buy and check your blood pressure at the comfort of your home.

HYPERTENSION MANAGEMENT

Hypertension is not a disease, it’s a circulatory disorder, so it cannot be treated but it can be managed. This means when you start taking your anti-hypertensive drugs (drugs used in the management of hypertension), the blood pressure is reduced to one that you can live with, without having organ damage but the blood pressure isn’t brought back to the normal blood pressure level. Hope you understand?

Well, I guess you’ve been educated on hypertension, so get yourself checked today, at the nearest clinic, to know if you’re hypertensive or not and do well to take the necessary measures.

Here's what the world health organization has to say about hypertension

Religion / 3 Mind-blowing Similarities Between Faith And Fear That People Don’t Know by Oghogho0(m): 1:00pm On Feb 18, 2020
FAITH and FEAR

Fear and faith are two words that do not exist together. Faith drives away fear, so also, when there is fear then faith is far away. Though I still don’t know if there is a point of equilibrium where fear and faith exist together but I’m pretty sure the existence of one tries to stop the existence of the other.

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FEAR AND FAITH

1. What you are afraid of and what you believe are both not yet the reality:

The things you are afraid of have not come to pass yet. So also the things you believe. For example, you want to invest in a business, if you are afraid of the fact that you might be catfish, or you might make a loss, all those are still just imaginations and they only exist in your mind. So also if you have faith that the investment will yield profit, or you believe that your business associates are not scammers, it also only exists in your mind. Even the Christian bible defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.

2.    Both have the ability to bring to reality what it entails:

Fear and faith both have the ability to come to pass, but that depends on who wins. Most times fear usually wins because we usually make the mistake of thinking of the worst that can happen not knowing that our mind has chosen the path of fear.  Job said in the Christian bible that what he feared the most has happened to him.

Here is the trick, when you are afraid of something, it kind of influences your efficiency which will affect your result. That is why people who lack self-confidence always have results that always tend to further reduce their confidence until they finally meet a psychologist who now imbibes faith in them to drive away fear. So also is faith. What you believe is what works for you. The only issue with faith is that without work, it will not come to pass. But in a case where you have worked already and expecting a result. then all you need is faith.

Know that when faith wins you win.

3.    They both have the ability to grow:

Fear and faith have the ability to grow if you feed them. If you feed your fear it grows and conquers you. But when you feed your faith it grows and makes you a conqueror. If you watch the movie “Home Alone” the little boy was always afraid of the basement. Anytime he goes there he usually sees something (to him a ghost or something) moving towards him and he usually ran away. So, he tries to always avoid the basement. But when he was home alone and he had to use the basement, as usual, he saw something moving, and when he told it “Shut up” and guess what? It stopped. At that point, he has stopped the fear feeding on him.

Even if you don’t know how to grow your faith, that's no problem, but don’t feed your fears. Because it feeds on you.

Romance / Are Relationships Really About Compromise? by Oghogho0(m): 12:42pm On Feb 18, 2020
what is compromise? Here @prettylifestylez, we see this as settling for something when you'd rather take something else. is this what a relationship is about? having to settle for something else because your partner wants that else?

modern times has brought us to an age where true healthy relationships have lost their meaning and have become something different from what it was truly intended for. Advancement in technology has given us social media which has presented the notion that the ultimate base for relationship is to compromise. is this a healthy belief because it's held by a large group of people? no! it isn't.

In the most real sense, true friendship- not a casual acquaintance or selfish friendship, both persons who are joined together heart and soul is the foundation for all successful long-term relationships. if you're reading this and you're probably seeking a partner in a relationship, it's pertinent and highly important for you to know this.

most people make all the wrong decisions and go into a relationship for all the wrong reason and in the end, you hear them say that relationships are about compromise. there's an iota of truth in this but if this is the totality of the foundation of any relationship, it is bound to fail. this is because both partners in the relationship would realise in the long run that one gives in to the others wants and compromises his/her own more. he/she is bound to get to a limit and would feel he/she is giving more than they receive and ultimately the relationship ends.

this is why it is important for a relationship to be founded on the mutual friendship between partners that share similar levels of purpose, motivation, interests, values, views, dreams and personality. so in the long run, while others are compromising to be happy, they are both living and growing happily without a different point of views that lead to compromise.

would love you to air your view. leave your comments below on what you think about the effects of compromise in a relationship.
