Business / Re: Nigerians And Their Copycat Mentality by OIbhagui(m): 7:05am On May 31, 2013
Acidosis: Why can't people create their own idea?? Must we copy one another?

So many great ideas have been copycatted by many people.

Take noodles for example, we now have over 10 producers. Even Dangote self join... Must they copy indomie? The funny thing is they all come in same style, same taste, same pattern & some even use the same colour of pack!

Close-up faced the same fate. The worst is "Morning Fresh!" Everywhere we go, we now see green liquid soap! Everybody don turn Chemist overnight.

Where were these guys before Morning Fresh came to the market?
Its so painful cos it seems Morning Fresh would soon be a thing of the past. Its so obvious in their new pack while trying to convince their customers as regards the advantage over the common liquid soap.

Even on the internet, most Nigerian bloggers do not have ideas... Its all about;
Akpos
Tonto Dike
Unclad photos
(same trends everywhere!)

Someone introduced sliced bread many years ago, and till today its the same format. Its all sliced bread everywhere..

No one is ready to think but once you come out with your idea, they're so ready to shut your door.

Where are the real entrepreneurs?? Where are the great thinkers??

Enough of this copycatting!!!

My friend, I feel you intently. I was born Nigerian; I'm still Nigerian. I hate Nigerians with all my soul. I've said in countless fora that the problem of Nigeria is the Nigerian people, some of whom happen to be in government. The problem is not the government itself.

I am an original thinker in all ways, and you can not fathom what hell I've seen being like that and being in Nigeria. You know what they do when you ask them for help on this new idea you have? They tell you they don't have money. They even try to put obstacles on your way all because that's not how "they do it". Who is "they?" Just go ahead and succeed and you'll see how quickly they'll have money to copy you and invest much more and try to kick you out of the idea you laboured for.

Do you know EVERYTHING you see on the earth today was once existing only in a human mind? I know the history of technology and I know the mindset of ppl in those societies at the cutting edge of human progress...and I also know Nigerian mindset. I truly regret being identified as a Nigerian. I had no choice though

Thx man; that was a thoughtful contribution. This guy is also just a student and not a professional doing it to live on. It was my intention to engage him further after the website is actually done for real. I can not count the number of things I have done for people because it gives me the opportunity to practice my new skill and makes me happy someone has actually benefitted from my work.

He did put up a 1-page site with my domain name but the content isn't mine. There are other ppl here he collected money from and I'm amazed none of them is coming out to say anything.

I'm discussing with a friend and it might be possible to trace him and his address through the bank account I paid him into. I will have to spend more money but if I can get him for the fraud of 3000naira, it will prevent him from growing up to steal billions from Nigeria. I guess that's when Nigerians get to complain about their leaders; they don't know the leaders started somewhere and are encouraged by society.
Business / Re: Fraudulent Website Designer:hamziwhiz by OIbhagui(m): 1:22pm On May 29, 2013
idlaw2k3: Is that N30,000 or N3,000?

you shouldn't expect to get much from someone who claims that he can design construct a website for N3ooo

If he has registered the site no need fighting with him just be content to collect the cpanel's user name and password. I will help you out from there.

Thx man. You see there's always a million things ppl aren't aware about. While your Nigerian bigmen are stealing public money that their grandchildren can not squander to finish, Bill Gates is spending his own earned money pro bono to help cure diseases and backwardness in far away Africa. So you can not predict the intent of a person who makes a good offer.

When people talk about stuff in their field, they tend to forget that not everyone is so conversant with what goes on in their own world. I am not a website guy. Somebody makes a clear offer in English that I understand and one way or the other I am the one to blame for taking it up when they decide to be dubious? Sorry but that is Nigerian wisdom and the country is worse off for it.

I have asked him to give me ownership of the site which is my business name so I don't have to worry him but he doesn't respond. He has held my business name hostage on the internet. It seems I was wasting too much money on phone calls hence this approach.

He comes here; let him come and defend his honour if he has one. The name I gave is his handle here
Business / Fraudulent Website Designer:hamziwhiz by OIbhagui(m): 9:41am On May 29, 2013
Hi Nairalanders, if you were to read my previous posts, you'll know to what circumspection I hold Nigerians. However I think there are a few good ones here.

I cannot count "Hamziwhiz" amongst them. He has proved to be the typical Nigerian, trying to defraud people of even little pennies and proud he's smart. He asked ppl to pay 3000naira for a basic website since last month. After a half-hearted attempt at creating something with the name I gave him for registration, he has basically stopped anything wrt the website. Of course, trust Nigerian fraudstars with their sophistry; there's never an end to excuses.

He now has possession of the name of my registered business that I opened a website for, purchased with my money. I know a few others responded to his advert. What are those in my position doing to get this boy? What are your experiences?

This guy's number has been switched off for days now

I visit my own site as a stranger having no other control over the site

My few contents have not been put. In other words I did not put a word showing on the site

Seems to be the guy is now having more customers than he can actually handle. Pls others what are your experiences?

I think it might be a budget way to get a website; but no one will give away 3000naira for nothing
Business / Re: Top Ten Private Jets Owned By Wealthy Nigerians And How Much They Cost by OIbhagui(m): 7:31am On Apr 23, 2013
Religion has damaged this country fundamentally because your ability to think properly is the first place that is destroyed by religion. There is a clear statistical link between the rise of poverty in Nigeria and the rise of materialism churches. You can check the Corporate Affairs Commission and the UNDP data for Nigeria from 1985 to today.

The "good deeds" described here is interesting as it is the same "good deeds" that prevails in poor Muslim societies which people refer to as feudalism and which is responsible for Northern Nigerian backwardness. The Catholic Church has been in existence continuously for 2000 years (the only institution to do so) and has the largest congregation of any singular institution in all of the world. It has priests in the deepest jungles of the world (have you heard of Rev. Fr Dennis Slattery?); it has more earnings than some countries, YET the Pope has neither a private jet nor a helicopter but borrows same from the Italian government. Maybe your pastors of materialism should take a cue from that.

I don't want commenting on national issues anymore as the generation that will understand me has yet to be born in Nigeria, but let me part with this quote:

Belief in the soul is a matter of faith,
not science. For the believer,
evidence is irrelevant. For the
scientist or skeptic trying to talk to a
believer, discussion is futile.

Investment / Re: Investing In Startup Vs Buying Shares? by OIbhagui(m): 11:55pm On Mar 24, 2013
There are many business possibilities in Nigeria but as in every other thing, our evil ways don't let us make progress. Trust and honourable conduct is non-existent and so you try to do everything yourself so that a potential partner or investor doesn't shortchange you somewhere along the line. We are always looking over our shoulders because we know that we also are out to cheat others. You're considered 'smart' when you're able to cheat someone instead of being ashamed you're betraying normal human trust. Why do you think foreigners don't want to do business with us except for cash and carry?

I've had and still continue to have business ideas but I won't share; better for someone to arrive at same than for me to introduce someone because I need help only to find them take the whole idea and throw me away. I just want out of this country because we can never progress with out evil hearts
Education / Re: 2013 Federal Government Scholarship Awards For Nigerian Students by OIbhagui(m): 11:35pm On Mar 24, 2013
While they even tried to offer a scholarship at all, I must say they're silly. How do they expect a needy person to get into university, sponsor themselves and do that well for the first year before they give them 180k. Is it exclusive of school fees payment? A decent government will identify potentials from secondary schools and encourage them.

Nigeria is in a much better condition in terms of opportunities compared to when I was at this stage ('90s). Nigeria betrayed me and I'm sure there are many like me. I'm still suffering as a result

Nigerians are mostly a people without a sense of history who only live for today... but they're very good in arguments and trading insults so I will not give my verdict on this. People, please spare a few months and read like 20 books only on the events of 1966-70 and read some antecedents and tell me what you think after then.Problem is, most people are already prejudiced by the time they grow up and start to want to read anything about history. This life is truly unfair and unguided by any being, human or not.

I agree with you 100%.Are you in Lagos? Pls check out and join The Intellectual Society on Facebook. I also do favour having an alternative to Nigeria as I've suffered too much here; but my attempt made me lose everything I had on earth remaining hope and abilities which are innate.

I do not believe in the interpretation of the God that Nigerians do, pitching me against everyone I know. In a conventional sense you would say I don't believe in God. I have been a ''born-again'' as a boy between 1985 and '87 and I am very familiar with the bible. I am also a student of history and current affairs. I can tell you that if there were no observance of any religion in this country, the country would not be as bad as it is at the moment. Only a hypocrite would not agree that the islamic religion is a threat to world peace, progress and harmony. But the reason for that is not just found in the tenets themselves. The tenets of christianity is also just as bad. Problem is that at the time christianity was at this barbarous stage, man had little means to wreak as much damage on the world as we do today with advances in technology. So they did their worst until they realised that it couldn't work that way. Do you realise the kind of power the Pope had for over 1000 years until recently? Christians today largely do not follow the letter of their religion; if they did, they would be like muslims. I'd like to remind you that there are other religions in the eastern civilizations that I respect. They have as many adherents as christians or muslims but they're peaceful.

The only hope for this country can only yield some fruits if we start now and in 30-50 years' time we would see the dividends. But guess what: we've refused to start! We're still arguing that that's not the way. The way out is education. 90% of our universities should be shut. They're actually causing us problems because the ignorant and narrow-minded people they churn out then get an impression that they're wise. They contribute NOTHING to the true development of the nation. We should focus on primary and secondary education for the masses and with an emphasis on teaching them how to think. You have in the 21st century access to unlimited knowledge on the internet if only you use it.

There is NO western education. That phrase is invented to discourage people from educating themselves and thereby freeing themselves from mental slavery under which they're subjugated. Similarly there's no Islamic education. It is an oxymoron! How can you educate someone by asking them to memorise a gigantic book filled with your dogmas. If Mohammed were to start his religion today, the laws that they'r committing suicide for would be different(e.g stoning of human beings, cutting of hands and feet with swords). So how is that divine? The very essence of education is to be able to free you from being beholden to any dogma. I have been unfortunate in my life but there are two things I am still grateful about: 1: I was born in a christian/non-religiously active environment in which case I could afford independent thought if I so desired(my family is now also caught in the miracle craze of the moment in Nigerian christian religion), 2: I was born into a country where the english language is used, hence it was a lot easier to access the knowledge I have. It by no means applies to everyone, please don't forget that. You criticize aspects of your religion in some muslim countries you pay with your freedom or even your life; officially sanctioned.

I have contacted some known names in Nigeria to help me make my message known to Nigerians but they did not respond. I am born into a poor and ignorant environment and I have no real friends because no one really truly understands me. That's the kind of price you pay when you know too much in an ignorant environment. I could write 10 books on the problems of Nigeria and the world and it would not be enough to fully express what I feel.

There are people out there my friend who know things and are unknown and are even suffering physically. I'm sure you're not one of us.

I weep for this country because I can see this is the best we've got. We do not even understand the issues we fret about. Somebody please help me escape from this country once again. I can give my advice from afar and if you don't take it, at least I don't suffer with you. I've only got one life which has been in limbo for almost 40 years because I was born here.

I've reflected a great deal about life and the world. I really have no cause to blame caucasian racists -- and I have been their victim. The black man has been a blight on the human race. If I didn't know myself very well, in addition to a few other blacks I have read about, I would concur that we are indeed born inferior.
Politics / Re: "All Tribes Are Guilty In Destroying Nigeria - Stop Blaming Northerners" by OIbhagui(m): 11:29pm On Mar 15, 2012
Most Nigerians are guilty of destroying Nigeria in their own small way. It is rooted in a wrong value system in this country which cuts across tribe. All over this Nairaland I've got to say, its all tribe and tribe and insults being hurled everywhere with little exchange of knowledge or evidence of intellect. I believe it is representative of the Nigerian society.

Politics / Re: Why Did Military Not Develop Nigeria Like Their Counterparts In Other Countries? by OIbhagui(m): 4:58am On Mar 14, 2012
All ''development'' that you notice is actually a physical manifestation of the development of the mind long ago. Unfortunately you try to copy the physical that you understand. Nigerians do not realise how backward we are. In the contents of our minds, we're still over 2000 years behind the West. Where are our philosophers? What theories have they expounded? Don't we still attribute all happenstance to religion and a God? Do you know that Archimedes lived centuries before Jesus, and his works contributed to our inventions in the maritime world? The Greeks have been developing the concept of democracy since before Aristotle which is before Christ. We just wake up and buy stuff from others and we think we are at par with them. Do you know that it is people who invented the concept of money? Let me add that there is no ''western Education''. The west only discovered many markers to human progress first. If you want to make progress you have to take much of that route too.

Our society is made up of very very small people with a very simplistic and ignorant concept of the journey of human development in history. It is that lack of enlightenment that makes them steal money and assess all human worth and achievement in terms of the money made as a result.

My own frustration is the very fact that we have not even started the process of enlightening our society. God knows I could write 10 books on the stupidity of the underdeveloped nations of the world, mostly black and Arab nations and it will not be enough but I am too lazy to write and lack the incentive. The ''leaders'' you're expecting to do miracles are a product of your society. They are you and me. The SYSTEM in place will not allow a person with a view radically different from the prevailing one in the society to ever get to power; and if they do by some act of miracle, they will still fail because the society will fight back. My own small family is tired of me since nothing I say is in their world of experience and I am a pariah. How do you ever think I will fare in a group that doesn't even have any attachment to me.
Politics / Re: I Am Yet To See A Nigerian In Nigeria by OIbhagui(m): 4:12am On Mar 14, 2012
There is something like a Nigerian and I am one. I hope to be some other nationality in the course of my life as the burden of being a Nigerian is too great at this point in time. A Nigerian is a person who has no tribal loyalty and is more likely to be born and raised outside his parents' state of origin. My refusal to accept that I have a state of origin has brought me great scorn from within and outside the state of origin people themselves. As always, I repeat: the problem with Nigeria is the Nigerians themselves
Politics / Re: Pointers To Know We Are Not Moving Forward by OIbhagui(m): 4:40am On Mar 13, 2012
Darui: All your signs seems to be caused by the present administration.I wonder.
Now, what exactly do you recommend as the solution?

You really want to know the solution? I will give you the solution: the PEOPLE of the country should come out and force the political class/oligarchy to remove all the financial benefits in holding political office. Also they should remove discretionary action powers of executives to appropriate the country's resources. They have named almost everything in honour of people still living and of the last 50 years(no sense of history and the future).

The West insist on democracy because they know that what the people make of it is their problem; so if the people have democracy and decide to use it by living in the way their forbears have been living for centuries, then that's their problem. The PEOPLE of Nigeria have refused to realise the power that reside in them are are more interested in backstabbing and badmouthing their fellow man. They are so caught up in their religion and ethnic identity and seem to be ready to rather die than change. President Kennedy once said that no country can ever rise above the level of education of its people(not Ph.D's on paper).Enough said!

^ May God bless you for adding the last one. Religion is the means by which we make excuses for our personal failings. However, all these factors enumerated here are actually branches of the problem. The root is actually a lack of enlightenment. We do not know what education is. Much of what we call education is actually training. Please join The Intellectual Society on facebook where I'm trying to gather the few people with good intellect to form a club where we practice how to give presentations and manage stage fright while broadening our knowledge base. I'm almost 40;up till today I have not met one person in Nigeria who has my outlook. But I know there are a few others like me also suffering in silence in this country. More on the facebook page

...and this is the debate after 51 years of independence! Does anyone realise that every Nigerian has been forced into boxes which frankly some of us refused to belong to? As a result of the refusal to belong to a box, you've made our lives a misery in this country. I'm sorry for all of you. The moment I get the next chance, I'm out once again. Frankly I am more likely to hold elective office in a country whose citizens are of a different RACE than it is for me in Nigeria as so structured by the likes of many of you.

The problem of Nigeria is the people who live in it; the government is but a part of the people.

I'm not interested in idle talk and argument on fora; I want to do something as I have specific things that if given a chance, I will do and ameliorate the situation. But I don't.

I have no connections, and indeed don't even have any money so how would I get into the homes of Nigerians via electronic media. Please read this piece I wrote in 1998 and '' The Guardian'' didn't even have the decency to acknowledge receipt. I've been frustrated by all the efforts I've made to affect the discourse in this country. I'm a scientist and historian and a general reference guy myself.

Corruption was done in hiding in Nigeria before Babangida's government which overthrew the most anti-corruption government in Nigerian history. Babangida legalised corruption and made the non-corrupt the object of scorn in Nigeria.

Governments in this country hardly affect the citizenry on a first hand basis; but Babangida's government destroyed my life directly, in addition to that of millions, so poignant when you imagine the government it overthrew.

A single man can change society, and Babangida did change this society, for the worse.
