Chelsea wing-back, Victor Moses is confident that his side can make Arsenal to leave empty handed this season by wrapping up a domestic double on Saturday.

Moses was speaking at Chelsea’s Cobham Training Centre on Thursday.

The Super Eagles forward noted that Arsenal, having lost out of the Premier League top four this season, would want to win something for their fans, but maintained that Chelsea are still hungry for more.

He said, “We came back to training on Tuesday and we want to get ourselves ready.

“It’s going to be a very hard game for us on Saturday. Arsenal are a good team with good players that can win them games.

“But we’re just concentrating on ourselves at the moment, working hard in training and hopefully we’ll go and do the job.

“We’ve got the league title and they’re going to want to win because they missed out on top four.

“We’re going to try and stop them because we want the double. We don’t feel any pressure.

“If he [Antonio Conte] says Arsenal are the favourites, then… I don’t know, but we’ve got good players that can win us games.

A federal judge has tossed out two life sentences for D.C. sniper Lee Boyd Malvo and ordered Virginia courts to hold new sentencing hearings.

In a ruling issued Friday, U.S. District Judge Raymond Jackson in Norfolk said Malvo is entitled to new sentencing hearings after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that mandatory life sentences for juveniles are unconstitutional.

Malvo was 17 when he was arrested in 2002 for a series of shootings that killed 10 people and wounded three in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, causing widespread fear throughout the region.

His accomplice, John Allen Muhammad, was executed.

Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Morrogh, who helped prosecute Malvo, said the Virginia attorney general can appeal Jackson’s ruling. If not, he said he would pursue another life sentence.

Ajax manager, Peter Bosz, has slammed Jose Mourinho’s tactics, after his side were beaten 2-0 in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored for the Red Devils, as they sealed a return to the Champions League.

But Bosz believes the way Mourinho set up his team, made it difficult for Ajax to play their usual way and made the match boring.

“High pressing was difficult because Man United only played long balls and didn’t take any risks in the build-up. I think it was a boring game. There were no chances from both sides,” Bosz said in his post-match press conference.

British police say a 44-year-old man has been arrested in Manchester in connection with the suicide bombing at an arena in the city that killed 22 people.

Greater Manchester Police said the man was detained Friday night in Rusholme, an inner city area of Manchester, “on suspicion of offenses contrary to the terrorism act.”

A police statement didn’t provide any details about why the man was arrested, but noted that the department’s investigation of Monday’s bombing after an Ariana Grande concert was “fast-moving.”

The man is one of nine who is being held for questioning in England following Monday’s attack. Two other people were taken into custody and then released.

American singer Ariana Grande says she will return to Manchester for a benefit concert to raise money for attack victims and their families.

A suicide bomber killed 22 people and wounded scores of others minutes after Grande’s concert at the Manchester Arena ended on Monday night.

Grande tweeted a statement that says “I’ll be returning to the incredibly brave city of Manchester to spend time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families.”

She said details are still being finalized and she will “have details to share … as soon as everything is confirmed.”

Grande also said “my heart, prayers and deepest condolences are with the victims of the Manchester attack and their loved ones.”

The police chief in Manchester says there has been an increase in reported hate crimes since the suicide bombing at a pop concert in the city.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Ian Hopkins said Friday there is no place for discrimination and hatred in Manchester and urged people to report any incidents.

Hopkins said he has reached out to faith leaders to try to calm the situation.

He also says there has been a lot of progress in the investigation, but much work remains to be done.

Hopkins says 12 locations are still being searched.

The mother of Martyn Hett, who was one of the 22 people killed in Monday’s Manchester suicide bombing, says she feels no hate or anger toward the suspected attacker. She’s taking solace knowing her son died doing something he loved.

Figen Murray said in an interview Friday that the 22-year-old British man named as the bombing suspect doesn’t deserve her energy.

Murray says: “I’m staying with my positivity for Martyn, and that’s what I hold on to.”

Hett, who was 29 years old, was believed to have been at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester Arena with a friend.

His mother says she treasures a selfie a woman took with her son at the show and the woman’s message that “he loved being there” and “really enjoyed himself.”

Murray says, “You know he died, and his last moments were experiencing what he enjoyed, so that’s you know…”

Hett had a large social media following and was remembered for taking to Twitter to promote his mother’s stall at a craft fair after she told him that no one was buying anything.

A British train company says that a station in Manchester damaged in Monday’s bombing attack will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Northern rail said Friday that Manchester Victoria Station “suffered structural damage that still needs to be properly assessed and repaired. Until the work is completed, the station will remain closed.”

The station directly links to Manchester Arena, where a British man of Libyan descent exploded a suicide bomb that killed 22 people and wounded scores of others after an Ariana Grande concert.

Northern Railway says train services “that would normally run into Manchester Victoria are unable to do so,” meaning “significant disruption” for trains in and around Manchester.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has told former President Olusegun Obasanjo to desist from accusing people of corruption in Nigeria.

He declared that “Obasanjo that I know does not have morals rights to accuse anyone of corruption because he eats and sleeps with corruption.”

Governor Fayose, who described the former President’s claim that some church leaders in the country were not only encouraging corruption but also celebrating people with questionable sources of wealth as hypocritical, said; “If anyone must accuse the church in Nigeria of
promoting corruption, that person cannot be Obasanjo because he presided over the most corrupt government in the history of Nigeria.”

The former President Obasanjo made the accusation in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday at the 2017 Convention Lecture of Victory Life Bible Church International while speaking on the theme, ‘The role of the church in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.’

In a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose asked: “Where did Obasanjo get the stupendous wealth he is parading since he was a pauper before he became president? Where did he get the trillions of naira that he deployed to his failed third term bid “How can Obasanjo, under whose tenure Nigeria witnessed Halliburton scandal be sermonising about corruption?”

He said it was during Obasanjo’s reign as president that governors were made to donate N10 million each to the building of his library, adding; “Isn’t compelling State Governors to make donations to the personal project of a serving president part of corruption?”

Maintaining that Obasanjo was the father of corruption in the present day Nigeria, Governor Fayose asked: “Who introduced politics of Ghana-must-go bags to the National Assembly?

Nigeria has been named among 18 countries, whose banks have been attacked by North Korean hackers to get funds for sponsoring its nuclear programme.

Cyber security firm, Kaspersky, made this shocking revelation in its latest report.

According to the report, this could be regarded as the biggest bank compromise in history.

The huge amounts of stolen money North Korea pilfers is likely being spent on advancing its development of nuclear weapons, two international security experts told CNN.

“This is all for their nuclear weapons and missile programmes. They need this money for building and researching more ballistic missiles,” said Anthony Ruggiero, a senior fellow for Foundation for Defence of Democracies who specialises in North Korea.

The company’s report, which it presented this week at a cyber security conference in the Caribbean, claims it found evidence of the same hacking operation launching attacks on financial institutions in Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, and Uruguay.

Recall that as at October last year, Nigerian banks lost over N8 billion to electronic fraud within two years.

Data provided by the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) show that there was a spike in phishing attacks, email scams and spam messages targeting corporate bodies, individuals, financial institutions and banks’ customers across the country.

According to the statistics, these cyber attacks have hiked by 635 per cent from 1,461 in 2014 to 10,743 in 2015.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which was scheduled to hold today.
JAMB registrar, Prof Is’haq Oloyede, said in a statement: “Meanwhile, the Mock Examination earlier slated for Saturday, April 8, 2017 has been put on hold.

“This is because the appropriate rehearsal and test-running of the new system has been substantially achieved. The plan was to trial-test the readiness of our facilities and address the challenges that may likely confront the main examination.

“The Mock Examination remains free for willing candidates, even the fee due to the CBT centre Owners are being paid by JAMB. No cost to the candidates

“At this moment, we have realized that the plan to hold this Mock Examination was good for us. We are now in a better position to achieve better than we would have done without this trial testing. This is why the exercise is at no cost to the candidates.

“It is our strong conviction that this exercise is an experience for us. Our systems analysis has revealed interesting findings that will engender a seamless and successful 2017 UTME exercise.”

JAMB has also postponed the UTME exam till May 13 and 20 .

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, says that David De Gea did not play against Sunderland on Sunday, because of a “little problem”.

The Spanish goalkeeper was left out of the match day squad for the Premier League clash at the Stadium of Light and was replaced by Sergio Romero.

Rumours are circulating again regarding interest from Real Madrid, but Mourinho insists that the decision to leave the 26-year-old out, is down to a minor niggle.

“David has a little problem,” he told Sky Sports.

“He hasn’t travelled. Normally Sergio plays in the Europa League and that is next Thursday so that’s not ideal for him at all.”

De Gea has been an ever-present for United in the Premier League this season and Mourinho is hoping the keeper will be fit for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Anderlecht and a crunch clash with Chelsea next weekend.

When asked if the problem is a long-term issue, Mourinho replied: “No.

“He’ll be ready for the next fixture.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has told Manchester United that he is not at the club to “waste time”.

He challenged the Old Trafford side to show ambition if he must stay for next season.

The Swede is in talks about extending his contract for another 12 months, although he has an offer to move to the Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that 800,000 candidates have registered for this year’s United Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), since the sale of forms began on March 20.

This was revealed by the board’s Head of Information, Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday.

Benjamin explained that the introduction of the Remita mode of payment, has improved the process of acquiring registration documents.

“This measure has doubled the rate of the registration as over 800,000 candidates have registered.

“I want to assure all candidates that are desirous of registering for this examination, will not be left out.

“We are working hard to ensure that no Nigerian child is denied of his or her right of advancing in education.

“What we are doing currently is for the benefit of not only these candidates, but for the entire Nigerians.

“We do not intend to extend the registration deadline as we are sure that all of the candidates will be duly registered,” he said.

Registration for the 2017 UTME is scheduled to end on April 19 and JAMB has warned that there will be no extension.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho said while he is not angry with the assistant referee for adjudging Zlatan Ibrahimovich’s decisive equalizer against Everton on Tuesday night as offside goal, the replays should have been used to judge if the goal was legal or not.

Ibrahimovich’s goal was disallowed after the assistant referee raised the offside flag to the amazement of the Portuguese gaffer.

Replays afterwards showed the diving header as goal while the linesman had ruled otherwise.

After seeing the tight decision by the linesman, Mourinho said the video replay would have been used to judge the legality of the goal.

He told the BBC after the match, “We scored two legal goals but I tell you with a smile on my face because I am not upset with the linesman.

“A really difficult decision for him, only video assistant replay could help this.

“After pressure, after pressure, after pressure the goal finally arrived and at least you don’t have the feeling of defeat.

“They were taking off attacking players and putting on defenders. They were inviting us to attack but they can do that because [Romelu] Lukaku is so powerful he can be dangerous.

One of the major factors of how your credit score is calculated is your capacity. This is the ratio of credit used to the amount of credit that is available. This accounts for 30 percent (almost a third!) of your credit score. For example if you have 5 credit cards with a $1000 limit and you have 3 of them maxed out and 2 of them inactive your capacity would be at 60 percent, $3000 of your $5000 total credit limit. This is not good in the eyes of the lenders and your credit score would suffer because its ideal to be at 10 percent of your capacity.

Remember a credit score is a formula measuring your ability to pay back your debts and obligations. If you have a high capacity and little room left for your maximum then your ability to pay back your obligations is viewed as more limited.

So in the example above, lets say you decide to close the 2 inactive cards for whatever reason. Nowadays, the credit card companies will charge a fee to inactive cards so a lot of people are now closing their inactive accounts. Well unfortunately, they are killing their credit score. If you are maxed out on three cards and you close the other 2, guess what, you are now at 100 percent capacity because your total credit limit is now $3000 instead of $5000. I know from personal experience this will cause your credit score to plummet.

My advice ? Don’t close your inactive cards. Use them once a month, maybe for gas, or treat yourself to a latte from Starbucks. Then pay them off immediately so you don’t incur any interest. Do what you can to pay off the cards that are maxed out, or at least get them down to where your balance is under 10 percent of the limit. If you can, try to transfer the balance to a lower interest card, so it can save you a few bucks on the interest. This strategy is sure to improve your credit score because capacity is a major factor, and if your capacity improves, your score improves.

Asking your bank for a credit limit increase on some of your cards isn’t suggested nowadays, this is a strategy that old credit repair people recommended but in today’s economy with the credit crunch, it prompts an account review, which for some quirky reason, may cause the banks to LOWER your credit limit. This would damage your capacity as well.

You are already disciplined enough to not spend on two cards. You are unique in today’s credit crunch world, use your discipline to your advantage, don’t close your accounts. You will be doing more harm to your credit score than good.

Paris Saint-Germain have open talks with representatives of Alexis Sanchez, over a possible transfer in the summer.

According to RMC, the initial discussions have taken place between the two parties and they quote an unnamed ‘confidant’ of the player who said, “Alexis is sensitive to the Parisian interest and the PSG project.”

More talks have been scheduled to hold this month.

The Chile international will have one year left on his current contract with the Gunners at the end of the season and manager Arsene Wenger insisted last week, that he is confident Alexis and Mesut Ozil want to stay.

Chelsea are also interested in Alexis, but Arsenal are not ready to sell to a direct Premier League rival and would rather sell him abroad.

President of La Liga, Javier Tebas, on Monday confirmed that they will investigate Barcelona B’s 12-0 win over Eldense in a Segunda B fixture.

Barcelona B were 8-0 up after the first half, of the match played at the Mini Estadi on April. They went on to score four more in the second half.

“We are going to look into it because the Eldense board have asked us to and the result at half time was out of the ordinary,” Tebas told reporters in Spain on Monday.

Super Eagles and Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has said his passion for football caused him to disobey his father who did not want him to take up professional football as career.

He also said he skipped schooling to live his dream of making it big playing the round leather game.

Ndidi made this revelation in an exclusive chat with Leicester Mercury.

He said: “My family was not really into football. My dad wanted me to go to school, not play football.

“My dad watched it on the television but he didn’t want me to play football. He is a soldier, but he didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps, he just wanted me to go to school.

“I did miss out on some school because of football. When I moved to Nath Boys academy, then I started to miss out on some of my schooling.

“My family hasn’t been over to see me play yet. They only see it on TV.”

The ace midfielder further reminisced how his joining Nath Boys Academy took him to Genk in Belgium.

Ndidi said: “I remember kicking a ball around as a child, but I was not in any training or anything. I just had a very small ball and I just kicked it around by my home.

“I was 14 when I joined Nath Boys Academy. We played in a competition and a scout from Genk was there. I was 16 or 17 when they came in for me.

“I was offered a trial at Genk and the president of Nath Boys came with me to Belgium for the trials.

“It was very different to what I was used to but before that I had been travelling with Nath Boys and we played in a tournament in Portugal. We had played against Hull City and Celtic, so it wasn’t completely new.”

The Senate on Wednesday suspended Senator Ali Ndume for six months for raising false allegations against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye through order 14 and 15 at plenary last week.

The suspension follows report of Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges which recommended for his suspension for one legislative year.

Ndume who was immediate past Senate Leader had called for the probe of his colleagues after a publication in national dailies reported that “the Senate President, Bukola Saraki bought SUV bullet proof Jeep worth N370 million without paying it’s Custom duties.”

The motion he raised also called for the investigation of Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi East Senatorial district who allegedly did not graduate from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria as claimed by an online newspaper.

The plenary presided by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu as Saraki had to step down since he was involved for fairness discussed extensively and having weighed options resolved that Ndume be suspended.

However, the committee in its report exonerated the Senate President and Dino Melaye, pointedly concluded that suspension of Ndume was appropriate to serve as deterrent to others.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has said he would be happy if Zlatan Ibrahimovic decides to leave the club at the end of this season.

The Swedish striker is in talks with United over a contract extension, having signed an initial one-year when he joined last summer as a free agent.

Ibrahimovic has enjoyed an impressive debut season in England, scoring 26 goals in all competitions so far.

“I am just calm and waiting for the decision,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“If the decision is for him to stay and he is happy with that, we are delighted with that.

“If his decision is to leave and try to find a different challenge, I will be also happy for him.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced its resolve to abolish Computer Based Test, CBT, method for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, due to low computer literacy level of candidates.

The board said it has in collaboration with a private institute resolved to set up dedicated UTME centres for visually impaired candidates in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018.

Registrar of the board, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, disclosed this in Kaduna on Wednesday, saying the board would not revert to the old paper and pencil mode, but an eight-keys device.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Strategic Planning Retreat on Monitoring and Supervision of 2017 UTME in Kaduna, Professor Oloyede said the eight-keys device would eradicate the challenge of computer illiteracy and phobia for mouse by some candidates.

According to him, “From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode, we have noted the challenge of computer low level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse. This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode.

“In order to ensure equity and level playground for all candidates taking Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight keys without the use of mouse.

“All the candidates need to do is to press the letters A,B,C,D for responses to questions and keys: P, N, S and R representing; previous question, next question, submit and reverse, respectively.”

Speaking on the new arrangements for the visually impaired candidates, the JAMB Registrar said, Digital Bridge Institute in partnership with the board had agreed to set up three dedicated centres in Abuja, Lagos and Kano in 2018, adding that, the board will support the centres with necessary inputs.

He explained that ahead of 2018, when the project of dedicated centres would come to fruition, the board has reached an understanding with the association for the blind persons in Nigeria and blind students in Lagos that an abridged approach would be used for the 2017 UTME.

He added that all prospective blind candidates would be invited to three centres in the country for special assessment in their subjects of choice and relevance to their desired courses and programmes.

Professor Oloyede while addressing the participants, most of whom are external Supervisors and other stakeholders drawn from various tertiary institutions and education sector, said all concerned stakeholders must take UTME as their own and make it a project.

The JAMB boss said, “It is not enough for Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) to visit examination centres with sirens and large entourage of government functionaries with very little impact to show for their participation, other than to be under television camera lights and beamed same to the whole world, yet, the outcome of the examination is laced with stories of examination malpractice. This time around, the major players with requisite integrity, intelligence and appropriate knowledge of the assessment would be fully engaged to actively participate in the supervision of the examination.”

FC Barcelona has expressed “surprise and indignation” at FIFA’s decision to hand forward Lionel Messi a four-match international ban for verbally abusing a match official in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Chile last week.

Messi was suspended, with a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,160) by football governing body’s disciplinary panel and is due to miss three more of Argentina’s remaining four World Cup qualifiers after sitting out the 2-0 defeat against Bolivia on Tuesday.

According to FIFA, the Argentina captain was guilty of “having directed insulting words at an assistant referee.”

But his club, Barcelona has come out in defence of their player.

Barcelona said in the statement, “FC Barcelona expresses its surprise and indignation at the ex officio action by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee by suspending the player Leo Messi following the FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture between Argentina and Chile.

“The club considers the four-match suspension finally imposed on the Argentine player to be unfair and totally disproportionate.

“Finally, FC Barcelona wishes to reiterate its support for Leo Messi, an exemplary player in terms of conduct both on and off the pitch.”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, set up a committee, whose objective is to resolve the perennial rift between the executive and the legislature.

The committee will be chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Other members of the committee are all ministers who were at one time federal legislators, as well as the Senior Special Assistants to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang (Senate) and Samaila Kawu (House of Representatives).

This was revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who briefed State House Correspondents on the development.

“The executive is also concerned that the relationship between the two arms of government is not as smooth as it is supposed to be.

“In any democracy, it is a continuous struggle for balancing between the executive and the legislature because each of them is a creature of the law.

“Just today (Wednesday) at the Federal Executive Council meeting, the issue was discussed and a committee is already working on ensuring that we resolve all these outstanding issues,” the Minister said.

The Senate had rejected Buhari’s nomination of Ibrahim Magu as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) twice.

It had also summoned the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ali to appear before it.

A mortuary attendant with the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Mr. Muritala Raimi was on Monday ordered to be remanded in Agodi Prisons, Ibadan for allegedly stealing a human skull, among the corpse kept in his work place.

Raimi, 57, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and misconduct.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared before Magistrate Akanni Monsurat.

Although the court granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, one of who must be a member of the family, the accused was yet to meet his bail conditions as at the time of filing this report.

It was alleged that the accused was arrested after he had allegedly decapitated the remains of the yet to be identified corpse.

He was said to have concealed the decapitated head in a bag and attempted to move out when he was caught by security guards on duty.

When it dawned on him that his secret deal had been blown open, he allegedly attempted to run away but was later rounded up by the police and taken to Yemetu Police Station, Ibadan before he appeared at the court.

The charge sheet signed by a Superintendent of Police, Adeniyi Odebiyi, reads in part: “That you Muritala Raimi, aged 57, on the 15th May, 2017 at about 05: 30pm at UCH Ibadan in Ibadan magisterial district did steal human skull inside UCH mortuary and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 3 of the criminal code cap 38 vol. 11 laws of Oyo State of Nigeria.

“That you Muritala Raimi on the same date, place in the aforementioned magisterial district did misconduct with regard to corpse by decapitating a corpse deposited at UCH mortuary and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 242 of the criminal code cap cap 38, vol. 11 laws of Oyo State”.

The matter was later adjourned to May 5, 2017 for further hearing.

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has been banned by FIFA for four games, over a foul-mouthed rant at a match official.

The decision was communicated to the Argentine Football Association, just six hours before their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Bolivia today.

The incident happened during the Albiceleste’s 1-0 win over Chile, in which Messi scored the winning goal from the penalty spot. The Barcelona superstar was adjudged to have used abusive language towards an assistant referee during the match.

Messi has been fined 10,000 Swiss francs (£8,100) and will also miss World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay, Venezuela and Peru.

The next game he will be available for, is the final match against Ecuador.

“This decision reflects the consistent case law that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has applied in previous and similar cases,” a FIFA statement reads.

Four South American teams are guaranteed a place at the World Cup. A fifth country can also progress, by winning an intercontinental play-off tie against a team from Oceania.

Argentina are currently third in the regional table, two points ahead of Chile.

The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has appealed to Yoruba elders to in the interest of national unity restrain from giving ethnic coloration to the unfortunate crisis that erupted in Ile-ife, Osun State recently.

ACF described the clash between some Yoruba and Hausa traders as criminality that does not know ethnicity or religion.

The Northern socio-cultural group in a statement in Kaduna on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Muhammadu Ibrahim, noted with dismay, accusations by some Yoruba leaders that the police report on the clash was biased, as the suspects paraded by the police were alleged to be mainly Yoruba.

It cautioned that disagreement between individuals or groups of persons that were regarded as ethnic or religious tendedd to deepen hatred and division among Nigerians, stressing that elders known for their wisdom in settling disputes should not fan embers of divisions among their followers.

According to the statement, “After the unfortunate clash that happened two weeks ago at Ile-Ife, Osun State between some Yoruba and Hausa traders, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in our reaction condemned the killings and called on all and sundry involved to eschew bitterness and imbibe the spirit of accommodation and tolerance.

“ACF commended the prompt action taken by the Security Agencies, the Osun State government and community leaders to restore peace and normalcy in Ile-Ife.

“ACF also called on the various communities that have lived together in peace and harmony over the years to always exercise restraints in their utterances on such sensitive issues that might snowball into crises with reprisal consequences. Our position was widely published in both print and electronic media.

“Unfortunately, subsequent events after the preliminary investigation report of the police into the Ile-Ife crisis, there have been accusations by some Yoruba leaders that the police report was biased, as the suspects paraded by the police were alleged to be mainly Yoruba.

“ACF’s position in this regard is to appeal to the respected elders of Yoruba not to give unnecessary ethnic coloration to the unfortunate Ile-Ife clash as criminality knows no ethnicity or religion.

“Any slightest disagreement between individuals or groups of persons that are regarded as ethnic or religious tend to deepen hatred and division among Nigerians. Elders are known for their wisdom in settling disputes and not to fan embers of divisions among their followers.

“ACF therefore, once more calls for restraints among the various community leaders and urge them to document their grievances and channel same through our known legal process of addressing such grievances, rather than making provocative and inciting statement capable of creating disunity.”

The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, says it has commenced sensitization and mobilization of people on the pattern of “Biafra” referendum that will commence soon.

MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, in a statement he issued in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, over the weekend said the referendum was the methodology for the actualization of Biafra which will happen soon.

The statement reads in part: “The referendum will determine our future existence as an indigenous people’ and undo the British enslavement policies of the Ndigbo.

“The Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has started mobilizing and sensitizing the people of Biafra on the need and pattern of the Biafran Referendum that will commence soon.

“We see it as the need of the hour, as every self-determination struggle had its methodology. The non-violent Biafra struggle and restoration urgently and earnestly demands the long awaited referendum.

“MASSOB, Biafra Peoples National Council, BPNC, and other pro-Biafran groups have resolved to thwart and undo this British enslavement called marital union that will never work again.

“We have also resolved to work in unity of strength, cohesion and one accord pursuant to achieving a resounding referendum exercise that will determine our future existence as an indigenous people.
