It's not the masquerade stole or vandalized what they said; but his followers and other street urchins who used the opportunity to perpetrate their devilish deeds or hone their kleptomaniac skills. |

@emma2999… Don’t be so conclusive, for the fact that some Yoruba scumbags deal in illegitimate does not portray all Yoruba Bereau de change as untrustworthy. Mind you Hausas can dupe you too. 1 Like |

@damola1… I feel u, but never forget that different people with different experiences. I have exchanged dollars for local currency more than 50 times in Yaba and they were all predominantly Hausas and trustworthy, also because I went straight to their offices. If you mistakenly go to Broad street behind the resurrected Savannah Bank and you don’t talk to Hausas and decide to meet the Yoruba Agbero boys a.k.a area boys, bros, believe me your money is gone. How do they catch their preys? If Malam changes for $1 to 120 naira, they would make it 125 naira so that you will be happy to transact with them, collect your money and change it to fake or given at rate way below expected. After they asked you to leave and you think Police or anybody will rescue you out, you are on your own. A lot of street orchins in Lagos Mainland are doing this for living. You will always see them behind Savannah Bank stroke CMS bookshop. |

Ten kings and ten reigns own this world; one person cannot rule this world forever! Take care of your kids, Prez Obama told Y'all! I think 2face is not hungry for fame, he's got it and hungers like Timaya, Naeto C and others want to shine too. He needs to take the back exit or hit the door before he got booed again. It's time for babysitting for all his 3 dozens' kids. Thank God you are not in America, where you gonna be put on child's supports. Luckiest fool! |

@bawomolo, I didn't want to respond to this post, but when I read the Oyinbo Gala seller; I guess I just got tired with his antics about us, which I think is rude. He says Hausa gets the menial work, majority of the people I Lagos that dig suck-away toilets and remove the solid faeces are predominantly Yorubas. And that is the dirtiest job I have never seen in my life. They know you are looking at them and they have slogan "Owo igbe ki run" that means faeces’ money doesn't stink! Then I got mad when swipe us about Tinapa and I gave him the right answer: Socialism failed and capitalism is bankrupted nobody is perfect! |
Nairaland / General / African Americans: Why We Hate Black Immigrants In America? by okokomeji: 3:10am On Jun 21, 2009 |
The reason I wrote this short observation erupted from the YOUTUBE interview clip with Hakeem Seriki a.k.a Chamillionaire. The link is right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucMKF8eXyHc&feature=related Chamillionaire says in the clips that his parents are both from Lagos, Nigeria. Then, people started rambling and yelling with their comments; “he was stupidity he needs to come correct that he’s a Nigerian.” He is a Nigerian and never hide it, despite he had never visited Africa; but sometimes if you want to stay on top of your game in anything that reflects Black People in America (either sports, hip-hop, or education), the black folks always want you to be pure African American. They also lashed out Nasiru Oludara; they contend because His Surname is Oludara and definitely must be a Nigerian. Chamillionaire is a Nigerian, his daddy is Yoruba from Egbaland in Ilugun asa-lu and his mother is Igbo of deltan/benin origin. While Nas’ daddy adopted the name (Oludara)to feel a sense of security about African root and have greater connection with it. The same thing goes to 2pac (Amaru Shakur) does not mean he was from Africa. They all just embraced Africa culture that was part of the movement in Harlem, NY to seek solace and have succours against white oppression in those days. I don't care where you from as much as you black or fair skin, we are all Africans. In America, color is a barrier to what you can achieve in your life except if you do extraordinary to go beyond expectations either by scientific or sports breakthroughs. If you claim you are from other country and you want to stay on top of your game you are gone. See what they “The Game did” to Tony Yayo, if not for 50 cent that's so powerful behind him. Why? Because he's from Haiti. The same thing to Tyrese and Fat Joe(Puerto Rican). Black Americans won't care if you were born in America, they will call you illegal immigrants. I pray Charmillionaire off -the-chain again; because now he's got a lot of haters hanging on now since they hear his parents are both from Nigeria. They are not going to like him anymore except for some his die- hard fans. Black Americans think they won the battle for freedom by themselves, they forgot that it was collective battle of the whole world. Especially, the black poets, writers and musicians in Africa; the likes of Fela Anikulapo, Desmond Tutu just to name a few. The other factor that helped them to win this battle is America precocious appetites to spread democracy, and every country its went, meant with rebellion. Chinese, Russians most because of communists and socialists criticized America the ways it treated its black folks. Black Americans don’t have problems with Europeans, Chinese, Scandinavians and Mexico trooping into USA; but just don’t want any blacks around the world to compete for jobs in America. Jackson 5 wants to build a resort center and slave museum in historic port of Badagry in Nigeria, the black Americans started crying and clamoring “ Hey Jackson 5 don’t do it, we ain’t know Africa for good” or are you crazy? They forget that blood is thicker than water and no true trace of heritage than its providence. Africa is their root and providence! You see ruins in Greece on summer vacation; you spend billions of dollars to see great wall of China “where they point at you as inferior race;” you tour India temples where they view you as lowest slaves of Indian hierarchic pyramid and visit ancient Egyptian temples where they despise and detest anything blacks. They claimed the ancient goddess “queen Nefertiti” and ancient black god “tutankhamun” are both whites now. Even, the former Egyptian president in 1974 ‘Anwar Sadat, despite his blackness claimed he was not black but Arab. When I asked African Americans where would they like to visit, if they happened to travel abroad?, They would either tell you China, Rome, Greece and Egypt. Then, I would ask, why not Africa; they said Africa stinks. I think we need to start appreciating our heritage and Africa as our continent.

My FAULT! I pasted the wrong link, this is the correct link where he talked shitz:http://seaninnigeria..com I think to most people in Nigeria because of our paranoiac nature might think, he's a spy. I never had the feeling that he was a snitcher, I believe he's just doing his research. @Poster Or Sean J whatever you called yourself. Due to your wrong observations you made here: http://seaninnigeria..com @Poster. I need to take a swipe back at Oyinbo researcher: mind you Gala is made from pure beef and is by all standards better than hotdog that made with ordinary corn bread and pig. Matter of fact, I will take three Galas over ten hotdogs. Two, in Nigeria; we have not gotten there and we shall be there in time of road networks. Our early plans for road networks did not include hold-up resistant mechanism such as ramps, interchanges and so so so. It’s only in Nigeria you will come across a road that stretch up to 5 miles without any intercept overhead bridges. There is nothing bad hawking across the roads, but if causes so much hold-up or go-slow; then it might be prohibited in that direction. Third, gibberish talks like only Hausas that do the menial jobs is complete hoax and baloney. And drawing an analogy that like never seen white folks washing dishes in NYC, garbage! Lagos is no man’s land just like NYC. There is even more credibility to Lagos than NYC; YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FIRST CLASS CITIZEN TO QUALIFY FOR MANY OPPORTUNITIES. You don’t do you don’t eat unless you have inherited a fortune. I have seen many Yorubas from village doing that kind of menial jobs too; it’s never been peculiar to only one tribe. In Lagos, I have watched dishes in restaurant, washed feet at Kajola market and did bricklayer. I still made it through education, because I did not let those struggles and backdrops weaken my carrier ambition. Many people with menial jobs have built many houses in both Lagos and their villages; that is just the definition of menial jobs so far it pays off at the end of the day. The only similar analogy for both NYC and Lagos is they are both no man’s land. I have seen it in Lagos or Nigeria, NYC or USA where many indigenes lived wretchedly and foreigners lived stinky rich. Especially, often when I see poor white people, I used to wonder if you can’t make it in your country where would you make it?. Fourth, by lampooning the idea of transforming Tejuosho MARKET into a modern mall; also drawing reference that it doesn’t reflect Africa is absurd. @poster. He says : “This is a mock-up of the new Tejuosho market in Yaba, which burned down in late 2007 and is currently being rebuilt to look like this. It shows that the Lagos authorities equate "market" with something akin to a Las Vegas shopping mall. I am no architectural critic, but I can tell you that their vision for Tejuosho market does not reflect Africa or Nigeria in any way imaginable. Except those do look like banana trees in front.” Oh, snapped! The reference above shows your groundwork of vulgar ignorance and obvious stupidity. Get this straight; modernity is not a peculiar yardstick of any region, country, nation and continent. After all, civilization started in Africa: Mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut was built for Egypt’s only female pharaoh (1472 – 1457 BC) was a perfect prototype of Lincoln Memorial in Washington --- They both served the purpose to immortalize notable leaders; Many of the Pharaoh palaces were prototype of White house in Washington; And you called Opa Oranmiyan or Oranmiyan stick or staff which was found in Ile-Ife was also a perfect prototype for National Monument in Washington: It was built to commemorate Oranmiyan warriors and National Monument serves the same purpose to honors military in USA. Just to name a few; but you need to stop your chauvinism or bourgeois and be objective in your research. I wish you good luck! Finally, @poster: I want you to rescind this statement. “Time will tell whether it becomes "the pride of every Lagosian" or a white elephant, like the huge Tinapa project in Eastern Nigeria that was billed as "the next Dubai" when it opened last year and now apparently sits empty.” I am taking my point from comment drawn on Tinapa, I urge you to retract that statement; you are not in position to judge anybody. Err is human, socialism has failed and capitalism is bankrupted so nobody is perfect. Tinapa might be moribund to today, I promise, it will be buoyant and be among the world’s top resort destinations in future. |

@Biina, You are damn right, I would rather take a horse-whip than getting 120,000 volts taser off my butt. Lol But the problem is our system is already messed up and we need only the supreme God intervention to solve our problems. Not lord like Jesus or Anobi Muhammed that we praying in their names everyday can solve this for us; because both faced side-by-side at very end of our problems, if one solved for us the other dogged it out back. I support everything step Fashola takes to make Lagos a Mega city in this 21 century; but state government needs to fulfill promise by relocating the traders to the designated sites. @poster, Check out the Ikeja Village master's plan, it was never supposed to be a market place, it's all started all of a sudden, nobody taught it would grow to that extent. It's a residential area and just put you in a position with those who have family houses over there who now have to walk 7mins to their houses where they used to park at the front of their houses. And the residents can't come home anything after 9 pm anymore, because of rampant armed robbery; some traders stay late at night to carry out their nocturnal crime ways. Personally, endorse the prevalent transformation of local market to malls, this reduces crimes anyway. Because many people's experience with markets like Alaba, Odo and Owode idi iroko has been so traumatically. In ODO market in Ladipo, Mushin. If armed robbers still your car and take there, before two minutes you won't recognize your car anymore; they have mechanic, panel beater and so on. Let's say your car is jeep and worth 6m naira, they would only give you token money for 200k naira, because they know you cannot take it back. If you have no numbers written on your car, they would remove them and sell separately; but if you have numbers all over your car, they would remove the glasses and put them in grinder to crack them away. They would put all the body parts in incinerator to remove all the paints' job and refile and paint them back to re-sale as spare parts. In Owode Market, you can buy any type of guns you want at a cheaper price and they refurbish stolen cars too. Why am saying all this is I want state government to have additional oversight on our local markets, they left unchecked and that increases crime rates. Just like a barber that got caught with two guns like four weeks age in Mile twelve market. |

I AM 100% AWARE THAT PEOPLE AFFECTED ARE THE IBOS. IBOS SHOULD TRANSFER THIS COMPUTER VILLAGE TO EAST --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we go again, the Odogwu of Ikeja makes less than 10m naira per month and the same thing goes to Eze of Alaba Market makes less than 50m naira every month. If you wish these people to go back east where they would be less competitive; they would just curse you out that "u ain't no good." Why our people want to be protected by law but failed to live by law? Thus, I must urge the state government to expedite the relocation process, if it has not been done yet. Thereafter, anyone who doesn't want to comply with state's law can leave. We all go abroad and see how strictly they uphold and abide by laws. . |

It goes both ways, it might be fault from either husband or wife. Many girls out there don't how there true colors until you get marry to them. Majority of the things they tolerate before will become a taboo once you married them. On husband's side, he might be a tightwad or womanizer, all this stuff might be obvious to fiancée during courting; but she doesn't have choices other than lean with it. |

If by naija standard, the wife will cost u like 30k per month for the one that like to cook at home and 50k for the one that like fast-food. In America, straight out of naija girls are less demanding, it might cost you just $500 every month; because she would surely lost apetites for fast foods ranging from Taco bells, MCDees, Burgar Kings, Ryans, Apple Bees, Popeyes, chinko's foods and Co. If you want naija girl in Akata's disguise that will cost you at least $1500 per month. First of all, they don't drink water, you might need to stack soft drinks to quench their thirstiness and all they eat is fast foods; then you need to pick two convenient days out of a week for chill-lastin' maybe at any preferable bar (Wild Wings or Red Rooftop) or club (Hush, Pure and Dreams) |

Lagosians start with mumbo jumbo craps again. Some people might go ahead and say he's not Oyinbo; he's one evil spirit from Odo Iyalaro in disguise. This same notion had during pre-colonial eras. If CIA wants to gather facts about Nigeria, I promise wil never come in person and will only tip-off "Olofofos or snitchers" among you to reveal every last one of your secrets. Thus, don't take the fact that he might be a spy, but I doubt it will happen in the common people or average Nigerians' areas. |

There is nothing wrong with rewarding our past leaders, when the opportunities come alive. Thus, the purported pension’s packages are too cumbersome for the executives at the expense of tax-payers. In a society, where majority lives below 80 per cent poverty line, I think such exercise would be preposterous. If that could have been one house just in Lagos, and two cars with just one security guide, I guess would not even raise eyebrows like this. I need to take a strife at Deputy Governor Bucknor. At age 70, you still seem to be greedy, the same altitude that made you back-sit from the front-sit. I may put it straight with you; they don’t spend money in heaven though. God of nowadays doesn’t take long to wrath, that’s what happened when you woke up and the house at Ikeja that you took kickbacks money to build was razed by conflagration. Remember, evil that men do will live long after them. Then, she said Fashola did not do anything order than planting trees for beautification.”How would you know since all you want , is status quo.?” Leave Fashola alone oooo MAMA 70’s; we support that man ja re ooooo. Another whip at whinny Michael Otedola, you are a disappointment to our society especially Yoruba group. Ha ha, ha ba! If not for greediness, you could never be gone broke in your life anymore. Why still crying over spilt milk? If you really care about people, how many foundations you setup for the needy from the money you stole. The only achievement is making your son achieve the second Nigerian to be on forbes richest billionaires. I think if anyone from past leaders needs help from government you definitely not one of them. Let me shower encomium on Pa Jakande: I have known him to be a man of timbre and caliber, with unbiased competence and perpendicular integrity. Pa J’s achievement is still second to known in Lagos. This is an elder statesman that dedicated his life to the course of the poor, with a generously uncanny mindset. He lives in Ilupeju estate, where he has been living before he became governor and still lives there up to date. I remember, he came to a slum part of Shomolu, Lagos; just to campaign for a councilor to be. He never got scared, he works freely for his good deeds; unlike those fools who steal money and buy houses in Ikoyi and got scared just to visit their common constituency or will never allow poor persons to handshake them. |
Romance / Re: Is Age A Barrier In A Relationship by okokomeji: 6:47pm On Jun 04, 2009 |
To me age will always be a barrier. Any girl starting from 18 should not date a guy that took more than a decade from him. That is just my opinion; I know it won’t count anyway. Then, for ladies starting from 35 upward you can date anybody; because by then you should have been an alumina in any relationship with vast experience and coupled with certificates in all. There, age is nothing but numbered. Nigerian men of these days, on the other side; so greedy with anything in skirts. If you are grown-ass man and being greedy toward grown ass woman is good. The result is on the opposite, towards our young female kids. Some grown men have lost great respect in society; for switching conscience and humility for greediness by messing with young female kids which they called sweet sixteen. @post. “Someone mentioned that in Europe and America grown women tend to date young adult men.”?, Yes, it’s true! Because women have higher rate of empowerment and most of them due to their wealth and quality; they find it harder for their suitable husband and at the end of the day-have no choice but to take what comes on their way. The premise of my argument is: let’s empower this generation of young females and point to them that they are not sex-slaves anymore and can also be epitome of success in society too. Go to school, strive hard to achieve and be comfortable with what you got. You don’t have to cross the line in order to be successful. I went to Airport hotel one day, at the parking lot; I saw about 25 University young female students, the oldest should be 21. They formed a queue and coordinated by a grown-fat- pot-belly man which I guess would be in Mid 50’s, giving the young girls the tags to each room that every one of them would go. Don’t get it twisted, pedophiles are everywhere in the world; but many societies have stricter laws against them. For example, if you are being caught with sweet sixteen in America and you are grown ass adult; I bet, you will be registered as sex-offender and your ass going straight to jail. But in Nigeria, it’s a source of pride and respect among affluent, politicians, Obas, military, pastors, Imams, Babalawos and others. |

Since nairaland is changing most of my curse words, I may remove some little curse words. @Oxone. I am looking for that jerk-ass “Kosovo.” He made me start all my expletive cursing and slur. He was like; don’t go against Oba’s edict, because Oba has gun and vituperative cursing for anybody that goes against his will. This is not the era where you would be doing wedding and Oba would want your bride and send his slaves to ambush or waylay. And if the groom gets to fight, Oba would send him out of town or kill him. Tell them not anymore. The river had surged and new school of fish had been produced. what has palm kernel got to do with death & bad omen? I bet you KOSOVO will never have concrete answer for you. He just chooses to blatantly and blindly support Oba’s edict at the expense of common man. @Kosovo. Pretty saying: Because we want the dumb and deaf mother to hear words that is why we talk about her to the face of her kid. Being Oba’s dog, I want you to tell to Oba’s face; no weak decree and permanent edict can be founded except the labors that promote the will and happiness of common man. Don’t deprive anybody the means of their livelihood. Freaking jerk! I fed the mutherfucker with sad words; I know the bitch ass might be in one corner crying by now. Nonsense! |

Politics / Re: To Rescind Federal Character & Quota System: What Are The Merits And Demerits? by okokomeji: 11:31pm On Jun 02, 2009 |
I think it should be looked into, because mediocrity has surpassed excellence. It's deprived the right of experts and gives nonentities the power and opportunity to be relevant. |
Politics / To Rescind Federal Character & Quota System: What Are The Merits And Demerits? by okokomeji: 11:24pm On Jun 02, 2009 |
Abolish quota system Tuesday, June 2, 2009 The Federal Character principle which gave rise to quota system in Nigeria was established to solve the problems of inequality and marginalization as expressed by certain parts of Nigeria. Among other reasons for introducing the quota system were because of differences in the socio-economic development of different parts of Nigeria. Secondly there were disparities in the levels of educational developments in different parts of the country. Some sections of the country (North) were alleged to be educationally disadvantaged, while some regions (South) of the country were acclaimed to be educationally advantaged. More Stories on This Section advertisement Therefore the past leadership of Nigeria thought it wise to introduce quota system so as to bridge the gap. The federal character principle was adopted during the 1977 Constitutional Drafting Committee. It became part of 1979 constitution of Nigeria. From this point in our nation’s history, the questions of merit or competitiveness among Nigerians were set aside in place of quota system. This system has hindered development and it defiles all logic. How can a nation make progress when their best cannot occupy their due positions because we are practising quota? We cannot move forward as a nation by putting round pegs in square holes. From the time of incorporating the quota system into the Nigerian law books till date, the federal government has used it as a policy instrument in recruiting people to all federal government establishments like the armed forces, police, ministries, federal government owned universities etc. Because it’s in our statute book, the various state governments and all local governments’ use the quota system in their various appointments etc. Merit, experience and hard work do not matter if quota system is in use especially when it comes to appointments. Its contrary to what Max Weber (1864-1920) said, that employees should be hired and promoted based on merit and expertise. We choose mediocre in place of merit. The use of quota system has brought about intense lobbying each time there is vacancy to be filled. Thisday newspapers of 25th April 2009 online version reported that President Yar’Adua has become “sick and tired” of high level lobbying from all corners for the replacement of Inspector General of Police who is due for retirement soon. This is the result of quota system, were merit can be set aside in filling a vacant position. Quota system means injustice as far as am concerned. Apologies to its beneficiaries. The mere existence of this charter in our law books means that the country has been established on the paths of injustice. This concept of quota system will certainly prevent the best from emerging in all circumstances. America was established on freedom, equality, human rights and democracy. They live by it and they also export it to the whole world. Quoting the former President of United States, late John F. Kennedy, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty”. Because America is a free a society, the emergence of Barack Obama as the United States President became possible. In the United Kingdom, there is the equal opportunities act. Based on this act, United Kingdom employers makes appointment on merit by a fair and open process. Employers treat applicants equally regardless of your ethnic background, origin, religious belief, gender, sexual orientation, disability etc. Since Nigeria started the federal character/quota system the country has retrogressed. I want to be proven wrong, but I believe that the spirit of federal character/quota system gave rise to the zoning formula adopted by most political parties, example PDP. This same zoning formula contributed immensely to the emergence of the former president Obasanjo. I will leave Nigerians to make their judgement on the administration of Obasanjo. My own assessment on them is that they performed very poor especially with conducting elections, power supply, road maintenance, health system, fighting corruption etc. The same zoning formula which is a brain child of federal character/quota system gave rise to the emergence of President Musa Yar'Adua. It will be better for Nigeria to have credible leaders who will discharge their duties effectively from one section of the country, than what we are having today. Nigerians will benefit more if leaders who will deliver on dividends of democracy emerge from a particular state or region. Choosing leadership based on zoning is completely wrong. This concept of quota system has done more harm than good. Therefore this is the time to abolish quota system or quota system will abolish Nigeria. Quota system laid down the quest for the scramble and looting of our nations resources. People, groups, politicians, contractors etc lobby for positions all because quota system has replaced merit. When people, politicians, regions or states do not get positions they start shouting of marginalization. When they succeed, they loot because they feel it’s their turn. Patriotism and national interest do no longer exits in Nigeria due to this policy. Quota system encourages tribalism and division. This twin evil makes peace and love to be difficult in a country like Nigeria. Just recently, it was on the headlines that Nigerian Senate was boiling over the distribution of 60 billion naira voted for constituency projects. Aggrieved Senators accused the Senate appropriation committee leadership of being discriminatory in the sharing of projects among the senatorial districts. This accusation of being discriminatory in sharing projects can also be attributed to quota system or federal character. This is despite the personal interest of our senators. Quota system is like an evil which was left unchecked. This evil was tolerated and encouraged by the Nigerian leadership. Quoting Late Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of India, “Evil unchecked grows; evil tolerated poisons the whole system”. Quota system has poisoned the entire Nigerian system. The aim of introducing quota system should have been achieved by now which is well over 30 years. Therefore I strongly advocate for its abolition. I use this medium to call on the President to start the process of abolishing this system. It has done more harm than good. Since we are clamoring for constitutional review, let’s remind ourselves on the need to remove this from the books. Greater part of our problems can be traced to this system. Hoping that the Nigerian authorities have taken note. May God bless Nigeria. Vincent Akuta writes from Leicester, United Kingdom. |
