Politics / Jimoh Abrahim Dumped PDP For APC by Olascodonk(m): 7:07pm On Aug 28, 2020
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim has declared the party dead in Ondo after joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ibrahim stated the strategy he used to revive the PDP from death would be deployed to destroy the party in the October 10, governorship election.

The business mogul, who spoke when he officially joined the APC at Igbotako, Okitipupa local government area, said the PDP and its candidate, Eyitato Jegede, would lose the election even if they spend all resources at their disposal.

He said he joined the APC because of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s giant strides across the state, particularly his efforts at the resuscitation of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, which he alleged was abandoned by the Mimiko administration for eight years.

According to him: ”I do not want to sound proud but I revived PDP in this state. I know how I revived the party and I am going to use the same strategy to kill the PDP.

“I have received the broom from our party chairman here. This night, I will do something. I will give the PDP its poison. I know how I revived the party. I will poison the party to death again.

”I have tried not to talk about the ZLP. I pray we will not suffer in this life. Where is Zenith Labour Party in this state?

“The painful thing is that Agboola saw a golden opportunity and missed it to join the train of betrayers.

Politics / Re: 774,000 Jobs: Keyamo Speaks After Senate ‘Drama’, Says Recruitment Not Suspended by Olascodonk(m): 9:02pm On Jun 30, 2020
KEYAMO VERSUS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

National Assembly: How come that a Federal Government programme expected to gulp N52billion is being shrouded in secrecy?

Hon. Minister Keyamo: It is not shrouded in secrecy. Representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), youth groups and market women are all on the selection Committee.

National Assembly: We won't accept this from you. You should have privately submitted the program to us for vetting before taking certain steps. That would have enabled us have an input on how the programme should be implemented.

Hon. Minister Keyamo: No! Your powers under the constitution do not extend to that. You cannot control the program as to who gets what. That's the function of the executive arm of govt. Anything to the contrary will be tantamount to challenging the executive powers of Mr. President.

National Assembly: You're always speaking big grammar. Wetin! Okay, come let's go behind closed doors and conclude the meeting.

Hon. Minister Keyamo: No, sorry! I'm not ready to do anything in secret. You've already publicly questioned my actions. Let me also defend myself publicly.

National Assembly: You are disrespecting the authority of the National Assembly. Are you to tell us how to conduct the business of the National Assembly? We insist you come with us to the secret room.

Hon. Minister Keyamo: I'm sorry I won't go to any closed-door meeting with you. You have already raised some fundamental issues before the media. The media also needs to know how it is addressed. We are in a democracy.

National Assembly: Then you can leave our premises, if you are not ready to discuss in secret with us.

Hon. Minister Keyamo: Why are you asking me to leave? If we are truly fighting corruption, then all our actions should be open to public scrutiny.

National Assembly: What do you know about corruption? Are you to teach us about the war against corruption? Look, if you are not ready to go into a closed-door meeting with us, you can as well pack your things and leave.

Hon. Minister Keyamo: Yes, I'll rather uphold the provisions of the constitution and leave your premises, than have a secret collusion with you. Goodbye.

National Assembly: Really? You think you're smart, right? Okay, we shall see!

Hahaha! My people how una see this one? You castigate a man in public and the man wants to defend himself. But you suddenly say, no! His defense must be in secret. If you wanted a secret deal with him, why did you have to first impugn his capacity and integrity in public? Haba!

Politics / Why We Disengaged 500,000 N-power Beneficiaries FG by Olascodonk(m): 7:17pm On Jun 30, 2020
The Federal Government of Nigeria has given reasons for disengaging 500, 000 (comprising batch A and B) beneficiaries of its N-Power programme.

N-Power is a programme designed by the Nigerian government to address the challenge of youth unemployment by providing a structure for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development while linking its core and outcomes to fixing inadequate public services and stimulating the larger economy.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the need to provide opportunities for new beneficiaries informed the decision to disengage the batch A and B beneficiaries of the scheme.

“In 48 hours, over 1,000.000 young men and women like you submitted their applications on the portal in their bid to gain an opportunity of participating in the N-Power Programme.

“That opportunity will be denied them if we do not create the space for them to take part,” the minister noted.

She added that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had thrown a big challenge to the economy just as she urged the affected enrollees of the scheme not to see the federal government’s action as punitive.

“The COVI D-19 pandemic has thrown up huge challenges that have impacted us negatively across the spectrum from our health to the economy and taken a serious humanitarian toll on lives…

“….the Nigerian economy, like most economies around the world will require a boost to recover from the economic effects of the pandemic.

“This is the major reason why we have commenced enrolment of Batch C, which is providing opportunities for more Nigerian youths to gain skills for employability and entrepreneurship.

“It is also providing a pipeline of skilled workers to help rebuild the economy post-COVID 19.

“So, the transitioning and exit of Batch A& B, which begins today, June 30 and which terminates on July 31, is not a punitive action.

“It is rather a proactive intervention to help upskill your brothers and sisters and assist them further along on their journey through life.”

The minister expressed delight that some members of the Batch A and B of the scheme, which started in 2016, had gone to set up businesses at their various communities from their savings accrued from the scheme.

“At the last count, over 109.823 beneficiaries from Batch A & B have gone on to set up businesses in their communities, underlining and highlighting the impact and imperative of the N-Power programme.”

The federal government, on the 26th of June, began the enrollment of batch C applicants of the N-Power scheme which is part of the four social investment programmes established in 2016 to tackle poverty and hunger across the country.
