Sports / Dortmund Sign Emre Can On Loan From Juventus With Obligation To Buy For €25m by olayole(m): 7:39pm On Jan 31, 2020
Juventus midfielder Emre Can have completed a loan move to Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.

The Germany international has moved to Westfalenstadion on a deal set to run until the end of the season, at which point Dortmund are obligated to purchase him outright for €30 million (£25m/$33m) if certain conditions are met.

With Euro 2020 just around the corner, Can has joined BVB in search for regular football, after being restricted to just eight Serie A appearances for Juve this season.

"I think the team has great potential and can win something," The 28-year-old told the media at his official unveiling on Friday afternoon.

"I am convinced that I can help them and can't wait to play in front of these fans for whom Borussia Dortmund is known all over the world for the first time."

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc added: "In Emre Can we get a German national player who can be used across multiple systems in defence as well as in central midfield.

"A player who brings in his technique as well as his technique and has a strong will to win."

Politics / Opay And Gokada Rider Protest Against The Ban Of The Lagos State Government by olayole(m): 7:25pm On Jan 31, 2020
The Lagos State Government proscribed the operations of Okada and tricycle riders in 6 local governments and 9 local council development areas of the state.

The Lagos Government, while directing security operatives to embark on total enforcement of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, also ordered that the riders must not ply 10 major highways and 40 bridges and flyovers across Lagos state.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, stated that all the government ever did was try to regulate the activities of these bike-hailing companies. This was in a bid to control some excesses associated with their operations.

According to him, he said “the Lagos government has not registered any company to come and be running Okada.

“He said the Lagos state government didn't license anybody to go and start running Okada because it is unfortunate that the rate at which people are dying, the rate at which people are being robbed on the roads, the Government is worried”

He also disclosed why the decision was taken to ban motorcycles in some parts of the state. According to him, there was an urgent need to do something about the number of accidents caused by motorbikes.

He, however, noted that the ban will not affect those using motorbikes to offer courier services. This is because they do not carry human beings. But there are recommended bikes that must be used for delivery services.

The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 is to be enforced on Saturday 1st Feb 2020. The Opay and Gokada Rider today Friday 31st January 2020 carried out a peaceful protest against the ban at Alausa Ikeja. They said they should be #RegulateNotBan

Health / The Effective Of Gardening For Mental Health Care by olayole(m): 4:29pm On Jan 23, 2020
Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as a part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for his or her flowers, foliage, or overall appearance; useful plants, like root vegetables, leaf vegetables, fruits, and herbs, are grown for consumption, to be used as dyes, or for medicinal or cosmetic use. Gardening is taken into account by many people to be a relaxing activity.

Gardens are good therapy. Scientific evidence supports what many people know instinctively - being amongst nature and greenery can help to lift the spirits and offer solace, even in moments of darkest despair and then there's the act of gardening itself. The workout of digging and hoeing, getting your hands within the soil or turning your attention thereto which is elemental and material. Gardening is often an exercise in mindfulness. It encourages us to interact with the world through our senses, bringing awareness to textures, sights, sounds, and smells and faraway from troubled minds.

There is a growing body of evidence that supports a link between gardening and emotional well-being. One population-based study published in 2016 demonstrated that participants who spent longer time in green spaces reported lower levels of psychological distress.

In the UK, a new pilot scheme launched by the Royal Horticultural Society earlier this year means GPs can now prescribe gardening to patients affected by poor psychological state and dementia.

Nick Groom, spokesperson for the mental health organization See Change and is living with borderline mental disorder was involved within the project, and says he was keen to bring "a touch of realism" to the endeavor. He was adamant that the planning aspects should accurately reflect the truth of living with psychological state problems.

"There's tons of dialogue about mental health at the instant but a lot of it is quite sanitized," he says. "It's focusing on the people who say that they have recovered and are in a good place but what we would like to urge across is that it isn't sort of a physical recovery - not such as you have broken your leg and you recognize that the plaster cast is going to be on for 6weeks. Recovery in mental health is extremely much up and down," he says. "In very many cases it's an extended journey and it can be a couple of steps forward and 20 steps backward."

Nick's own struggles can be traced back to the sexual assault he suffered as a toddler. For many years, he told nobody. "A lot of individuals, myself included, who have suffered childhood trauma, there are awful feelings of shame, guilt, blame that somehow you're inherently evil. When the behaviors of the mental disorder began to manifest, I just thought that I was going mad, or that I was mad, or that I was just evil. So I was trying to hide it up, trying to be normal and which really ate away at me," he explains.

When he did openly acknowledge the reality, telling his wife, children, and parents what had happened to him, it precipitated an emotional unraveling leading him into one among the darkest periods of his life.

Last Christmas, having been diagnosed with both borderline mental disorder and complex depression, he became a voluntary in-patient at St Patrick's Campus in Dublin. He was there for nine weeks and another nine again over the summer, during which era he began intensive therapy. "It's a dark thing to mention but it really was a tremendous time. I learned a lot about myself, learned about the condition, took outing for myself and got the support that I needed."

Today he is able to say that he is in recovery, but he's keen to stress that recovery is complex and lifelong and there is no neat solution at the end. "It's up and down. There are days that are very dark, and there are days when I think, 'Yeah, great, overall I'm in a far much better place than I was this time last year'. But you cannot put a time-frame on it. You cannot say this time next year I will be cured. It's something that I do know that I'll need to work on for the rest of my life and sometimes you only think it's just easier just to let it take hold of you," he says.

Politics / Nigeria Won’t Break Up In 2015 - Kumuyi by olayole(m): 7:12pm On Nov 26, 2014
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said that God will not allow Nigeria to break up in 2015.

He said that regardless of the political tension, insecurity and predictions that Nigeria would break up in 2015, the country would not be dismembered.

He spoke on Tuesday during a media briefing for the commencement of the Deeper Life Bible Church three-day crusade at Eiyenkorin in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He advised against utterances and acts that could divide the country, saying that God’s purpose is for Nigeria to remain united.

He stated that there would be life transforming encounters with God, adding that God would lift the burden of people during the crusade.

Kumuyi said, “Sometimes people misunderstood the power of prophecy and there are people who will make negative pronouncements. Pronouncements are not necessarily prophecies. Every utterance on Nigeria breaking up is a pronouncement made from observations and not prophecies.

“I believe those who made those pronouncements based on some things they see or feel should say ‘they feel Nigeria may break up’ and not that God said that. Because if God could hear the voice of only Moses and spared Israel and they still exist over 3,000 years after, then God loves Nigeria and would not allow it to break up.

“God has a purpose for Nigeria. When people talk of division, the truth is that once you start the process, it never ends. Once you say, ‘people in the North, go your way and those in the South, go your way,’ there are other people who will also rise up to say they too want to go their own way even within you. You know what happened in the 1960s; several sides will begin to be asked to go away but I know that God has a purpose for bringing Nigeria together and we shall remain one.”

Kumuyi also advised the electorate to elect leaders based on competence rather than on sentimental considerations.

He added that leaders should not be elected necessarily because of their religious or ethnic cleavages but should be elected based on their ability to deliver dividends of democracy and good governance to the people.

He urged the electorate to evaluate the manifestoes of political parties and politicians and vote wisely and rightly.

He also called on Nigerians to be committed to nation building, adding that the Federal Government and the security agencies should continue in their efforts to address insecurity and other violent crimes in the country.

He also urged Nigerians and clerics to continue to pray to God to intervene and bring an end to insecurity in the country.

The cleric also advised Nigerians to avoid destructive criticisms, adding that people should appreciate the positive impacts of their leaders and offer constructive criticisms.
