Politics / Square Peg In Square Holes by Olibaba: 1:22am On Jun 19, 2020
Square peg in square holes.

One plague that has since eaten deep into the fabrics of our society as a nation is engaging the wrong hands to manage sensitive positions that is critical to the development and economic growth of the nation.

This narrative will change, when the action Governor, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu engaged the services of Mr. Ibrahim Odunbomi to manage the effective operations of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency popularly addressed as LAWMA.

Saboteurs were visibly ruffled when the game changer, Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu decided to put the square peg in square holes by entrusting the agency into the hands of Mr. Ibrahim Odunbomi. It is no longer news that the treacherous games of the supposed Iron Lady and her cohorts have been exposed, what is news worthy and worth celebrating is that LAWMA is fast returning to its glory days.

Four cardinal factors were instrumental to the glory days of LAWMA as stated below
1. Decentralization of operations
2. Capacity building and empowerment
3. Waste sorting and management
4. Advocacy for prompt payment of bills.

The new leadership upon assuming office, returned to the drawing board to thinker on this components of growth and developed an improved version of effective service delivery. The result is what we see as our neighborhoods are cleaner, staff are excited to go to work, better informed on responsibility, financial leakages are blocked.

Mr. Ibrahim Odunbomi can be said to be a square peg in a square hole, who have gained the trust of communities across the state and should be encouraged to carry out the reformative policies towards repositioning the agency to achieving the fundamental objectives of it's creation.

Education / Understanding The Analytical Sections On The Gre by Olibaba: 5:13pm On Feb 02, 2016
You are welcome to NehemiahPrep Blog. Hope you did enjoy our previous posts, well today we want to talk about the different sections on the GRE but just in case you missed our last post on what you need to know about the GRE click on this link http://nehemiahprep..com.ng/2016/01/what-you-need-to-know-about-gre.html

Our focus today is on the Analytical Section of the GRE. You will be writing two essays in this section: Issue and Argument Essays for 30 minutes each. The analytical section will be graded by two readers and the grades will be ranging from 0 to 6, the latter, 0, been the lowest and 6 the highest. Let me secretly tell you this, if you are aiming the top schools in the U.S or anywhere in the world where GRE is required, then a 5.5 or 6.0 will be pretty good . But if your school is not like the Harvards of this world, then a 5.0 or 5.5 will be fine or better still check out what’s your school GRE Essay score requirement.

I need to also let you know how the average score is been calculated. As earlier said, two readers will read each of your essays and if we say one of the readers scored you 4 and 5 on the two essays and the other reader scores you 5 on both essays then your average score will be (4 + 5 + 5 + 5)/4 = 19/4 = 4.75 which will be rounded up to 5.0 (now you know you need to improve on your writing skills). Even if your average score was a 4.25, it will be rounded up to 4.5.

But if we ask ourselves what exact skills are the readers of your essays looking for? The question is simple, basically they are in look out for your fluency, command of English and lastly, organization skills. So if you desire a good score, you will have to improve on these basic skills. Let’s now consider these skills one after the other.

Fluency Skills

Fluency is how easily you can communicate your ideas in writing (yes writing! since we are talking about essays) or on paper. The way and manner you are able to use English language will determine your fluency level. If you are used to writing short sentences before now, you will have to step up to writing complex sentences and also learn to use vocabulary well enough in your sentences. These are what will make your essay weighty and attract good ratings from the readers.

Command of English Skills

Command of English skills includes punctuation, spelling and grammar usage. Let me quickly tell you this, you need not to be too worried about the spelling error(s) in your essay that is if it’s minimal as the two essay readers are not necessarily after your error check but in a case when it’s too much, then it will certainly affect you score. Additionally, NEVER abbreviate when writing your essays. NEVER!

Lastly your sentences must be grammatically correct and logical enough so they can pass your intended messages to the readers. To improve your grammar skills, there are lots of materials, including books, on the internet that can help you with that.

Organization Skills

If you know it and you cannot organize it well enough, then you don’t know it. Organizing your essays is key and a must if you are serious about getting a good score. Your thought process must be well-coordinated and flow through a continuous pattern. A new paragraph should well connect with the previous one making it easy for the readers to flow along easily.

Don’t jump from one thought line to another, allow it flow and connect because if you do, your essay might just become boring to the readers and I’m very sure you do not want that to happen. If you are struggling with organizing your essays, then try pick up books that can teach you good writing styles and before you know it you will begin to experience drastic development and improvement in your writings.

In summary, you can always improve on your essay and get a high score but you should also practice writing a good number of essays before your exam date. You can find list of sample analytical essay topics on ETS website, download it all for free.

Education / What You Need To Know About The Gre by Olibaba: 4:47pm On Jan 29, 2016
Basically this piece will focus on computer based GRE general test which is an exam administered by Educational Testing System ETS {hey.. calm down. Nobody will ask you the meaning of ETS in the exam} to measure three basic skills that you have acquired all your academy pursuit which includes: quantitative, verbal and analytical skills. ETS believes that the GRE score indicates your chances of succeeding in the graduate school or completing your graduate degree. In-line with this, many schools requires their applicants to take the GRE.
The GRE Computer Based General Test has five to six sections, which will always take the below format:

--------------------------One-Minute Break-----------------------------------

Section 2: Quantitative Ability {35 Minutes}

--------------------------One-Minute Break-----------------------------------

Section 5: Verbal Ability {30 Minutes}

• 5 sentence equivalence questions

--------------------------One-Minute Break-----------------------------------

Section 6: Experimental Questions {30 or 35 Minutes}

• A third quantitative or verbal section

TOTAL TIME: 4 Hours

Please note that sections 2 through 6 can appear in any order, so it’s not necessarily in the other shown above. Additionally, the experimental section could either be a quantitative or verbal question type but be sure that the experimental section will not count in your GRE score. As the name implies, they are just experimental questions for future purpose. However, most importantly you won’t know which among the sections will be the experimental section so focus on answering all the sections well to your ability.
In the next post, I will be talking about each of the sections in detail so keep a regular check on this blog.

Education / 7 Reasons Why Test Takers Fail The Gmat by Olibaba: 9:05pm On Jan 25, 2016
Over the years, the number of GMAT test takers has been on the increase but it’s very sad to see lots of them fail the GMAT. Well, the good news is, a good number still scale through with good score. I know you might be thinking how you could possibly be among those few or, you might properly be thinking about what an ideal GMAT Score could be? That will be a talk for another time. I will like also to remind you that the GMAT is one of the requirements for Top, if not all, Business schools around the world. So it’s worth the investment and dedication to get a good score too.

Let’s get back to business of why test takers fail the GMAT. I’m not going to sweet-talk you into believing the GMAT is simple to pass, but if you could prepare well enough for the GMAT, it’s surely a challenge you can overcome. However, if you do not prepare properly, then the GMAT may seem like a rocket science or lifting an elephant with one hand.

Why then do test takers fail the GMAT? Well you get to know some of the key factors why test takers fail the GMAT in a jiffy. Tighten your seat belt as I spell out the reasons to you. Happy ride!

1. Shallow Understanding of The Exam:
Most test takers rush into taking the GMAT with little or no information about the exam itself. Understanding the exam and what is expected of you is a good point to start from as this will shake up your mind from the assumption that the GMAT is not different from every other exams you have written in time past. If you are planning to take the GMAT sometime soon, reading up what the exam entails is a good point to start from.

2. Lack of Proper Preparation: The lack of proper preparation will generally yield a poor result. Please don’t fool yourself thinking luck will help out. Don’t assume you understand a topic when you don’t, it may hit you very hard. Some even choose favorite topics to focus on. If you don’t know, you better take note now that EVERY topic is important on the GMAT. Sharpen your skills in all.
If your preparation is not so good, expect a poor result too. They have never been any two ways to good score, so to speak, on the GMAT than adequate preparations. You may be heading for a disaster if you do a surface preparation for the GMAT. However, if your preparation is good enough, you are on the road that leads to success. Ride on!

3. No Prep Test: If you are serious about getting a good score on the GMAT, then you should take a good number of prep tests (prep test is a simulated test for the exam) prior to the real exam day. You may be wondering, what’s the importance of this prep test? Prep test helps you the following ways: firstly, it helps you to keep track of your progress as you study.
Secondly, it puts you on the hot spot which is very similar to what you will face on the test day. Thirdly and lastly, it helps to build your mental strength since the GMAT is more of mental than physical. Never take the GMAT without taking a good number of prep tests.

4. Maths Foundation Problem: Rusty maths foundation problem should be attended to before taking the GMAT. You had better treat that “root” before it grows into a tree that might be difficult to deal with. There is a popular saying that “a stitch in time saves nine”. You had better tell yourself the truth that you are maths-rusty and seek for help where it could be found. In the course of preparing my test takers for the GMAT over the years, I have meet quite a few who had wonderful first degree grades, but due to the fact that they barely do anything as regards college maths they gradually become maths-rusty.

5. Verbal Foundation Problem: That you speak English is not, and I don’t think either, a guarantee for success on the GMAT verbal section as some special skills may be required. You may need to unlearn, learn and re-learn some of the GMAT verbal rules. If you will need to dust some of your English grammar books, please do as someone said “what is worth doing is worth doing well at all. To strengthen your verbal skills, lots of practice will help a lot.
Even if you think you are good with the verbal section of the GMAT, please do yourself a favor by taking prep test to check your accuracy level. Whichever way, the verbal section needs your attention as every other section does.

6. Procrastination: Procrastination is a monster that we all must fight and possibly kill. One major factor I have noticed over the years in preparing students for the GMAT is procrastination. I will read tomorrow, I will study it next week when you can actually study today. Someone said “Today’s work today, tomorrow’s work today”. Never leave for tomorrow, what you can possibly do today.
This issue of procrastination is mostly common for the busy test takers, but not necessarily true. The truth must be told, GMAT is like a “lover” that demands your attention always or at least for the preparation period. Don’t also forget that, the more you procrastinate the less coordinated your study pattern will be. I will talk more about study methods in the next but last reason.

7. Wrong Study Methods: Lastly on this post, the way and manner of your study methods is a pointer to your performance on the GMAT. A well-planned and thoroughly-followed study plan or method is very important for success in this race. Some test takers have access to too many materials and by so doing they themselves get confused while studying, hope I’m not speaking your mind?
Some break their study pattern. What do I mean by this? When you study, let’s say Geometry today but couldn’t finish it up and the next time you open it again is a week after, you probably must have forgotten a large junk of what you did study the last time.

Hope you did enjoy this piece? If you seem to have any question or you need further clarifications please do drop a comment below.
