For some time now, Nigerian football has been in ruins. This is caused by the Football administrators we have in the country, who out of their ineptitude or sheer greed has made nigerians to groan in pain because of our football woes.
I supported Siasia to be given a chance to prove himself because of the sentiments the football pundits in this part of the world have raised about an indigenous coach but i always preferred a foreign technical adviser.
Now that Siasia has been tried and it did not work out, let us look at a foreign TA that knows this country like back of his palm, somebody who knows the temperament of an average Nigerian. Somebody that know the nooks and crannies of this country and can discover talents.
That person can be found in Maurice Cooreman, he has been here for more than a decade and knows our football. I know he can not rely on the foreign based footballers to achieve his aim.
Sports / Eriksson Enters Race For Eagles’ Job •i Can Coach Super Eagles -cooreman by omamokta: 1:39pm On Nov 01, 2011
A new twist has emerged in the search for a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles as former England and Manchester City Manager, Sven Goran Eriksson has been named as a new inclusion into the list of awaiting technical experts to be screened by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee members.

The NFF technical committee members are expected to meet today and nominate a successor to former gaffer, samson Siasia who was sacked last Friday.

The decision of the wise men which include ex-footballers and past soccer adminsitration will be announced on Wednesday to a waiting and apprehensive soccer fans.

Although four names have been touted to step into the technical adviser role of the Super Eagles viz: Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, Daniel Amokachi and Bruno Metsu however, Tribunesports realiably gathered in London yesterday through Erickson agent that the Swede has been contacted by the NFF.

Efforts by Tribunesports to get reactions from Nigeria prove abortive as the Chairman of the NFF technical committee Barrister Chris Green, merely said that it was an internal matter for the committee to decide who handles the national team.

Also speaking on Monday Night Football of the DSTV Cable Television, a member of the technical committee, Victor Nosa Ikpeba said that if there was a need for a foreign technical adviser, nothing would stop the NFF from going for an experienced and knowledgeable coach.

Meanwhile, KADUNA United head coach, Maurice Cooreman has joined the list of potential coaches to have signified interest in managing the Super Eagles.

Cooreman said "I have lived in Nigeria for more than a decade. I know the people and I know their football very well even though I am a foreigner. And I know what the people think concerning football too.

"But I no longer see myself as a foreigner in this country because I am part and parcel of their football now. I have managed several clubs and people know what I have achieved with them."

According to supersport, the Belgian coach believes he is capable of managing the Super Eagles' stars.

Cooreman also said his experience of travelling around the country on a weekly basis as an NPL coach gives him an edge of discovering new talents for the Super Eagles.

"I know over the years that the problem has been managing the national team players. That is why I said I know the players well and I can manage them well. I have seen a lot of players in the league who can turn out to be big players for Nigeria if they are properly groomed.

"And I know I can scout round the country and look for players that will complement the efforts of the foreign-based players. I have worked with some of the players now in the national team. Taye Taiwo was my player at Lobi, Austin Ejide worked with me at Gabros and others," Cooreman said.

On Stephen Keshi and Sunday Oliseh as probable Super Eagles' head coach, Cooreman believes both men have towering pedigrees in the game.

But the Kaduna United coach fears that both men might lack man-manage citing Keshi's row with Togo star, Emmanuel Adebayor.

"I have big, big respect for Keshi and Oliseh. They were very good players. Keshi has a very good pedigree and same for Oliseh. But coaching and managing go together and I don't know if they are ready to do this because the Super Eagles is a very different team.

"Remember Keshi had problems with Adebayor, who is Togo's biggest player. Keshi achieved the World Cup ticket with Togo but still he didn't show he can manage his players well," Cooreman told SuperSport.com.

Cooreman has won the NPL title with Ocean Boys and Enyimba while he led Kaduna United to win the Federation Cup in 2010.

He was also head coach at Gabros International FC and Lobi Stars.

Thank God for the shift, it would ve been a disaster. We had a depleted team, Osaze was not there, Mikel "had" injury, Enyeama has visa problem. Come to think of it, why is it that everytime Super Eagles has a match Mikel will get injured before the match and recover after the match and so on and so on. We need committment from these guys, else our coach should go for glory hungry boys. Up Super Eagles!
Sports / Botched Int'l Friendly: We Would Have Buried Eagles – Ghana by omamokta: 12:35pm On Aug 12, 2011
Ghanaians who came to London for the botched August 9 international friendlyagainst Nigeria left London writhing in pains as they were confident the Super Eagles would have fallen for the umpteenth time had both countries taken to the pitch at the Vicarage Road Stadium, Watford.

Few hours after it was confirmed that the game had been called off by the policefor security reasons, no thanks to the riots that engulfed England, some members of the Ghana National Supporters Union (GNSU) stormed the Watford Hilton hotel abode of the Eagles, where they exchanged pleasantries with their Nigerian counterparts led by Dr Rauf Ladipo.

One of the GNSU members, who simply gave his name as Koffi told Daily Sunsports that Nigeria was the biggest beneficiary of the events that led to the cancellation of the big game.
In Koffi's words: “We came to bury the Super Eagles in Watford. We “killed” your team way back in Brendford in 2007 when we beat you 4-1. We would have buried the Eagles today (Tuesday) in Watford.”
Koffi pointed out that the Black Stars were battle ready for Nigeria and would not have allowed the Eagles to win the game.

“We know Nigeria came here on a revenge mission, I tell you it would not have been possible today. We take every game against Nigeria very serious and we want to continue the dominance.” It would be noted that organisers of the friendly have fixed October 11 as new date for the botched friendly.

Sports / Eneramo Regrets Playing For Nigeria by omamokta: 11:36am On Aug 04, 2011
Sivasspor striker, Michael Eneramo, has expressed disappointment that he featured for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as an international player.

Eneramo has made 10 appearances for the Super Eagles and has scored thrice. The 25-year-old said after playing during the eras of Amodu Shuaibu and Austin Eguavoen as Nigeria’s head coaches he expects to figure in the plans of Samson Siasia.

“I’m not happy that after playing for Nigeria that I’m getting no chance at all again because I had the chance to play for Tunisia.

“I played for Nigeria when coach Amodu Shuaibu was in charge but I don’t know why I’m not being considered now,” lamented the big forward.

Eneramo had considered taking up Tunisian citizenship two years ago while on the books of Esperance in a bid to be eligible to play for their men’s national team.

But the former Lobi Stars man was convinced to join the Nigerian setup and made his debut for the Super Eagles in February 2009.

Since Siasia became Nigeria head coach, Eneramo like other strikers have not been considered for recent games of the Super Eagles.
Politics / Re: Al-mustapha: Ige, Adesanya Used After Abiola’s Death by omamokta: 11:14am On Aug 04, 2011
This guy should substantiate his claims with enough evidence, it is good we are witnessing something like this so that our leaders of the past, whom we presumed holy could be really ascertained. With a video clip like he claimed, everything will be bare.
Politics / Al-mustapha: Ige, Adesanya Used After Abiola’s Death by omamokta: 11:01am On Aug 04, 2011
Former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Wednesday continued his testimonies before a Lagos High Court in Igbosere, alleging that the late Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, and former Afenifere leader, Pa Abraham Adesanya, were “used” after the death of the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Bashorun MKO Abiola.

Al-Mustapha, in his evidence-in-chief before Justice Mojisola Dada, also said Adesanya led Yoruba leaders to the Presidential Villa to meet the then Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, in order to douse the tension generated by Abiola’s death.
Al-Mustapha, who is standing trial for alleged complicity in the murder of Abiola’s wife, Kudirat, added that though the Yoruba leaders were unconsciously used in the alleged murder of Abiola, they however kept quiet when they realised that they had been used.
He tendered a VHS video tape labelled “Abraham Adesanya’s Visit to the Villa” and requested through his lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, that it be played in the court but the judge objected on the ground that the court room was too stuffy and that she could hardly breathe as a result of lack of air conditioner.

The judge however said the video tape would be played Thursday at the continuation of the trial.
Al-Mustapha, in his testimony, also told the court that shortly after the sitting of the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission Report (aka Oputa Panel) in Abuja, he wrote an 11-page letter to Ige entitled “How You (Chief Bola Ige) Were Used in the Murder of Abiola”.

He said: “I was separated from Abiola and the late Chief Bola Ige was brought to the Presidency as a liaison to the South-west leaders and to bring people against our collective agreement which was to allow Abiola to go home. At this material time, monies were disbursed to a number of people negotiating on Abiola rather than allowing him to go home.
“I have two tapes which recorded both their (Yoruba leaders) coming into the Villa and their departure. When they came into the Villa to see Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, there are two cameras used, one for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the second was operated by my body guard attached to the Villa.

“When they arrived, they appeared angry and refused to grant interview. But when they were leaving, their countenances and statements changed. It was no longer about June 12 and Abiola’s matter; it was now the issue of state security and the need for the country to forge ahead.

“I was in the Presidency and was in the process of handing over to the new Chief Security Officer on the one hand and Abdulsalami on the other hand. I was briefing General Abdulsalami on issues of national security. I also drafted a 16-point agenda with Abdulsalami. Part of the agenda was Chief Abiola’s release from detention and short transition programme.
“Along the line, I was asked to hand over issues about Chief Abiola to late Chief Bola Ige. He (Ige) was appointed as a liaison officer between the Presidency and the South-west. Chief Ige continued to bring South-west leaders to the Presidency against our initial plan to let M.K.O Abiola go home or to be given his mandate within a short time.

“After the death of Abiola and during one of the visits by the Yoruba leaders to Aso Rock, this particular visit was led by Chief Abraham Adesanya. When they got to the Villa, they were visibly angry, annoyed and mad and refused to speak to the press men within the Villa.
“But when they were leaving, their comments were totally the reversal from the situation on ground in the country. They were very happy while leaving! The reaction and comments by late Pa Abraham Adesanya on the situation in the country at that particular time clearly put June 12 issue as secondary and they were saying that no matter what, the country must forge ahead.
“There were two cameras that captured the visit; one was for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), while the other one was for me. I stationed and instructed my bodyguard to capture the whole thing.

“That was one of the major reasons why Abdulsalami had to seize everything I had including documents, tapes and even my shoes.
“Whether Chief Bola Ige knew that he was used to murder Chief Abiola is another matter entirely because I wrote him an 11-page letter between June and July, 2001.”
Absolving himself of complicity in Kudirat’s death, Al-Mustapha told the court that his plight was due to the fact that he knew a lot about what happened at the time.

He said in order to nail him at all costs, soldiers who served under him as members of his body guards and Strike Force including his personal orderly were induced to give evidence against him at the Special Investigation Panel (SIP) set up to investigate the alleged crime.

The former CSO also tendered a letter with reference number NSA/320/5 dated July 8, 1998 (a day after Abiola’s death) allegedly written by Major-General Abdullahi Mohammed, the then National Security Adviser (NSA) and approved by Abubakar directing the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to release $200 million, £75 million and N500 million in cash.

The letter, which was read in the open court, stated that the money was needed following the sudden event of July 7, 1998 (Abiola death) in the country and due to influx of visitors from within and outside the country as well as for administrative purposes.
On how he got the letter, he said: “I was still at the Presidential Villa handing over property of the Presidency to the new Head of State. The secretariat where photocopy of the letter was made was the same secretariat that I headed as CSO to Gen. Abacha. I got copies from the memory of the photocopier machine.”

He said he was still in the Villa at that particular time and was in the process of handing over to the new CSO, adding that by virtue of his presence in the Villa, he was able to retrieve a memo from counter espionage photocopier machine signed by Abdusalami and the then NSA.

In the memo, Al-Mustapha said the CBN governor (then Mr. Paul Ogwumah) was directed to withdraw funds from the treasury. The memo was with reference number NSA/A/320/5 and was dated July 8, 1998 and was tendered and admitted as exhibit D12.
He said the publisher of Abuja Mirror and elder brother to the former Inspector General of Police (IG), Abadina Coomassie, also got the memo through a source in the CBN. He alleged that unfortunately, Coomassie was poisoned while planning to publish the memo.

Giving background to the massive withdrawal of money from the CBN, Al-Mustapha alleged that Abdusalami instructed the then NSA to raise a memo requesting funds and disguised as if the funds were meant to take care of visitors to the Presidency both internationally and within the country; to service presidential aircraft fleet and to take care of logistics of the soldiers in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Part of the money, according to Al-Mustapha, was used to appease South-west leaders and douse the tension that trailed Abiola’s death.
He added that after the approval of the memo, the CBN governor was specifically instructed on phone to bring the cash to Aso Rock.
The case continues Thursday.

If these Nigerian convicts know what these senators are planning for them, they should go for dry fasting. The prison inmates in UK are far better than most Nigerians that are not in prison in Nigeria. They are well taken care of, with good tattoos and good physique gotten from body building to while away time. In Nigerian prisons, how many of them are well fed to pump iron.
Politics / Tokunbo Prisoners: 16,400 Nigerians In Uk Jails by omamokta: 11:25am On Jul 28, 2011
Senators yesterday sang discordant tunes over the fate of about 16,400 Nigerians languishing in prisons across the United Kingdom (UK).

Some Senators wanted the National Assembly to pass a resolution which would compel the Federal Government to bring the prisoners back home as the UK Government spend £1.6m to feed the prisoners per day. Others countered that the nation’s economy cannot accomodate such influx.

This came up during the debate on a bill for an Act to repatriate Nigerian convicted prisoners serving various jail terms in the Common Wealth countries sponsored by Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN).

Senator Benedict Ayade told the Senate that “in the United Kingdom alone, Nigerians serving various prison term are 16, 4000 in number and it cost the UK government about 1.6 million pounds per day to feed them.”
Senate President David Mark expressed unhappiness at the number of Nigerians serving jail terms in the UK alone.

He said: “There are safeguards in the bill, but I am shocked to hear that there are 16,400 Nigerians in various prisons abroad, this is a thing not to be proud of, we don’t know the authenticity of the figure, but it calls for concern. The lesson is that we should improve our prisons for the purpose of reformation, it is not right to transfer the responsibility of reformation to other nations.”

Leading debate on the bill, which seeks to amend the transfer of convicted offenders (Enactment and Enforcement) Act, Senator Ndoma-Egba who sponsored the bill which was read for the first time on July 20, 2011 stated that the bill was to give effect to the Common Wealth scheme on convicted offenders between Common Wealth countries.

He added that the bill was seeking to amend the provisions of the extant Act by removing the consent and verification procedure of returning convicted prisoners to serve their term in Nigeria.
Ndome-Egba noted that the present Act is replete with some deficiencies that if not adequately addressed would jeopardize its execution, adding that it was the recognition of the inherent shortcomings in the extant Act that necessitated the need to amend it.

To effectively streamline the law, the Senate Leader insisted that Sub-section 5(1)(d) and Section 8 of the Nigeria Constitution, seeking the consent of the convicted offender and which has to do with the consent and verification of the convicted offender of the principal Act were to be amended respectively.

Senators opposed to the bill insisted that the financial implication of transferring prisoners back home would be too much for the country to shoulder. They also said that apart from the action being an infringement of fundamental human right of an individual, they also said that nobody would be convicted abroad especially the UK and would like to serve his jail term in Nigeria even if it was just a week.

The bill was however referred to Committee on Judiciary, Human Right and Legal Matter when constituted.

Sports / Nigeria Vs Argentina: Nigeria To Pay $1m For Withdrawal by omamokta: 11:28am On Jul 01, 2011
Organisers of the friendly international between Nigeria and Argentina on September 6, who are considering providing a chartered aircraft to fly the Super Eagles from Madagascar to Dhaka, have warned that Nigeria risk paying a compensation of around a million dollars if they withdraw from the game.

NFF secretary general, Musa Amadu had signed a contract with the organisers, but executive committee members are unhappy with the timing of the match, which comes just three days after the Super Eagles play Madagascar in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. “The contract provides for a compensation of around one million dollars if we fail to honour the game,” a top NFF official told KickOffNigeria.com.

“But they have informed us that they are willing to provide a chartered aircraft to help ease the discomfort of flying over such a long way to Asia.”
Nigeria coach Samson Siasia remains unhappy about the game, as are the majority of his squad.

This policy is a double edged sword, it all depends on the end you are, some will benefit positively and some negatively. To me the highest beneficary are the(1) married women (whether Abuja marriage or not)It will be a good time to married women who have almost lost their hubbys to night crawling. (2) DSTV, if all night crawling is stopped, all eyes will be on the TV especially DSTV. so far, i ve remembered only two beneficaries but the list of loosers is endless, let me name some, nairalanders can help me remember the ones i forgot. (1) The runs girls and pimps (2)Bars and Night clubs, (3) Breweries (4) Tobacco merchants (5) Entertainers/ Praise singers (6) Taxi Drivers (7) Filling Statons (8) GSM companies (9) Police etc (10) Short time joints. For Abuja Environmental and Protection Board, i dont know the side of divide they are in because there will be less work which is less pay(Chua Chua).

Atimes i wonder if the people those involved in issuing these orders check well before doing that, do they know how much we will loose economically, socially, psychologically and even politically. Abuja is the seat of the nation and one should not fear of any attack in the city, our security should be perfect here and stopping night life should not be a strategy of combating the security threat. It shows one thing, we are scared of the BOKO HARAM and this will embolden the sect. Very soon, they will dictate who stays in Abuja and who leaves. Too bad.

This according to the source (96.9 Cool Fm), was because there is a security threat. So we will all go to bed by 10.00pm. Its unfortunate.

Crime / Ndlea Raises Alarm Over Rise In Cannabis Cultivation, Consumption In Ekiti by omamokta: 10:26am On Jun 27, 2011
THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ekiti State command, has raised the alarm over what it described as the rise in the cultivation and consumption of cannabis sativa, known commonly as Indian hemp, in the state.

The Commander of NDLEA in the state, Mr Bamidele Akingbade, who raised the alarm in Ado Ekiti, while addressing newsmen, at the weekend said over five cases of mentally deranged persons resulting from the use of the substance were reported at the University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, weekly.

According to him, Ekiti was one of the states in the federation “known for cultivation of cannabis,” adding that over 400 acres of Indian hemp farm had been destroyed in the state since he assumed duty in Ekiti last year as the commander in the state and now.

He said it was worrisome that another 100 acres had just been discovered in parts of the state, saying “if this continues, there would be more lunatics on the streets and this would affect the future of our youths who are the leaders of tomorrow.”

According to him, “wherever cannabis is planted, it takes another 10 years to grow another plant there. So, we appeal to our people, especially those in charge of land to discourage giving out their land to people to grow Indian hemp.”

He also disclosed that the agency had arrested 34 suspects since last year when he assumed office for dealing in hard drugs, out of which 24 were prosecuted.

Politics / Fraud: Court Adjourns Case Against Bankole’s Brother by omamokta: 12:51pm On Jun 25, 2011
An Abeokuta Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday adjourned the case of fraud against Toyin Bankole, alleged the younger brother of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, to August 2, 2011.

The younger Bankole, alongside one Segun Baruwa, had been appearing in the court since January 2009 over the fraud allegation.

The police prosecutor in the case, Mr. Paul Etusi, had on January 15, 2009, told the court that the accused conspired to commit fraud by collecting money from one Modinat Odunlami with fake intent.

He said that the accused collected the money under the pretence that they would help their victim and her daughter to secure an overseas visa and admission respectively.

But at the resumed hearing of the suit in Abeokuta on Friday, the absence of the counsel to Toyin, Mr. Adedotun Akinmade, stalled the continuation of the case as the lawyer, in a letter addressed to the court, conveyed his inability to be present in court.

The counsel, who had, in the letter, claimed that he was indisposed, however, assured the court that he would be willing to continue with the case on the next adjourned date.

Politics / Another Bloody Army, Police’s Clash Averted In Lagos by omamokta: 10:13am On Jun 24, 2011
There was pandemonium at Obanikoro, Lagos Mainland, yesterday when soldiers clashed with policemen attached to the Lagos State Transport Management Agency (LASTMA).

Trouble started when a soldier riding in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) drove through the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane at about 8 am was accosted by the states task force on environment attached to the state government. BRT is reserved for LAMATA buses operated by the state government.

It was gathered further that the armed policemen and the LASTMA officials threatened to effect the arrest of the soldier who claimed he need the lane because he had an emergency to attend to.
According to the sources, “if they wanted to turn back they had the opportunity of reversing their vehicles and move back. But because they were soldiers and felt they could deal with the police they started coming and even threatened to disarm the police officers who attempted to tow the female soldier’s vehicle. They resisted it even when the officer pleaded with the officers .

“ While that was going on, the female soldier who drove a car marked SD 754 KJA attempted to operate the car by force but unknown to her, an iron spike was place in front of the car’s tyre, while the vehicle climbed it and got one of the tyres punctured.
As the car was being towed out of the BRT lane, the other soldier man, in a car marked KE 507 EKY came out of his car and successfully concealed his identity by removing the name tag on his uniform”.
The witness said that the officer acted irrationally, insulting the police officers and dared anyone to tow his vehicle, the attitude brought about a mild drama at the scene.

“ Because of his rudeness, the policemen who had earlier let go almost 10 vehicles being driven by soldiers who violated the use of the BRT lane to avoid trouble decided to tow the vehicle.
The Lance Corporal gave a headbutt to a police officer who was trying to drive his car.
The witness explained that efforts by the undeterred policemen to tow the vehicle was resisted by the corporal who slapped and brutalised the police officers at will, while the police were being careful to avert a re-occurrence of the Badagry episode.

He said ,“ As the struggle ensued between the Lance Corporal, some street urchins (Area Boys), who supported the soldier suddenly went wild, wanting to foment trouble but the police succeeded in arresting some of them who were hauled into the Black Maria.”
An eyewitness said during the ensuing argument, the soldier who was brandishing his identity card started making phone calls to his colleagues to come to his aid.
He said the senior police officer in the team ordered his men to arrest the soldier. According to him, during the attempt to arrest him, he put up a stiff resistance and the police beat him until he collapsed.
Daily Sun gathered that after the soldier had collapsed, the policemen revived him by pouring water on him.

The source said it was in the process of reviving him that an Army Colonel drove to the scene and arrested the soldier. Another witness, a driver at the Obanikoro motorpark who spoke on condition of anonymity said that few minutes after the soldier was taken away by his superior, other colleagues stormed the scene on a reprisal attack. He said as soon as the task force men sighted the soldiers, they fled, while others took to their heels. He said the soldiers who were not happy that the police and LASTMA officials escaped their wrath barricaded the road and were searching for either policemen and LASTMA officials to vent their spleen on.

However, it took the quick intervention of the Brigade Commander, 9th Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. Sanusi Muazu, who arrived at the venue to calm the soldiers.
Gen. Muazu, who described the skirmishes as unfortunate, said the Army was on top of the situation. He said the soldier who used the BRT lane had been arrested and that disciplinary action would be taken against him.

He decried the behaviour of the soldier, who took over the restricted BRT warning others to desist from disobeying the rules and regulations, stressing that no one is above the law. As at press time, uneasy calm still pervaded the area as residents and shop owners have shut down for the day. The popular Obanikoro taxi park was deserted by drivers and passengers for fear of possible return of soldiers, who had vowed to deal with the attackers of their colleague.

A similar incident occurred on Tuesday when bloodshed was averted at the same sport. About 15 vehicles were seized during an operation led by the task force chairman, Mr. Bayo Sulaimon, a Superintendent of Police. According to the source, most of the violators were members of the Armed Forces and para-military agencies.

Politics / Shehu Of Borno Denies Involvement In Killing Of Boko Haram Leaders by omamokta: 1:18pm On Jun 17, 2011
The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai, has denied involvement in the quelling of the 2009 Yusufiyya sect uprising in the state, which led to the killing of the sect leaders.

The sect, popularly called Boko Haram, had on Monday called for the prosecution of the first class traditional ruler for his alleged involvement in the killing of its leaders in the process of quelling the crisis.

A statement by Alhaji Zanna Laisu, Secretary, Borno Emirate Council in Maiduguri yesterday expressed surprise at the development. It said the response became necessary because of the serious concern and displeasure shown by the various communities, the good people of Borno emirate and the nation in general on the issue.

The statement said, “For the avoidance of doubt, at no time was the Shehu of Borno and the emirate council ever contacted or consulted by any authority within or outside the state on the breach of peace in Maiduguri in particular, and the state in general. The emirate council condemns in strong terms, all insinuations of its involvement or that of the traditional ruler. The Shehu of Borno, since his ascension to the throne, has continued to preach peace, harmony, stability and justice which are the greatest and well known heritage of Borno emirate since time immemorial.’’ (NAN)

Celebrities / Genevieve Nnaji Loses The Next Bond Girl Role To Naomie Harris by omamokta: 1:10pm On Jun 17, 2011
Contrary to the rumour spreading like fire in Nigeria that Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji is the next bond girl, the News Of The World (UK) has named the British Actress and Pirates of Caribbean star, Naomie Harris as the next bond girl.

The News Of the World which spoke to Naomie Harris is speaking with a louder and firm voice, not throwing out a rumour, so it seems like the deal is sealed and confirmed. Genevieve Nnaji is not the next bond girl, maybe next time but for now, let’s kill this rumour with the fact…

This is what the News Of The World wrote: PIRATES of the Caribbean babe Naomie Harris has jumped ship – and will shoot to megastardom as the new Bond girl. Naomie, 34, will be Daniel Craig’s sexy sidekick in the soon -to-be filmed new 007 movie.

The British actress was spellbinding as Tia Dalma, the grotesque witch in the second and third Pirate films. And her steamy love scene with Jamie Foxx in the Miami Vice remake proved she’s the right calibre for Bond.

Naomie, who stays superfit doing pilates and yoga, says: “I’m totally comfortable naked.”

Her mind’s just as agile – she graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in social and political science.

Londoner Naomie revealed she isn’t recognised in the street, despite her movie success. “I like that,” she says. “I’ve got one of those faces that people don’t recognise.” All that is about to change as she follows in the footsteps of gorgeous Bond girls like Ursula Andress, Jane Seymour and Halle Berry.

The plot of the new film, known only by its working title Bond 23, is being kept firmly under wraps.Judi Dench will again play M and Ralph Fiennes is in the running for a role. It is due for release in November 2012.

Politics / Ig: Boko Haram’s Days Are Numbered by omamokta: 12:40pm On Jun 17, 2011
The days of the Boko Haram sect are numbered in Borno State because the elections are now over and the security agencies will concentrate full attention on the sect’s members, Inspector General of Police Hafiz Ringim said in Maiduguri yesterday. He spoke at a ceremony at which Governor Kashim Shettima donated ten armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and ten Hilux pickup vans to the Nigeria Police Force on behalf of the state government. He said the donation was to help them beef up security in the state.

Governor Shettima, who handed the keys of the vehicles to Ringim at the Government House in Maiduguri, said the issue of internal security in the state was an issue of serious concern to him.

He said, “No responsible government will treat the issue of security with levity. We have expended a huge amount of money in ensuring our internal security but the fact is that all the investment cannot be compared with the pains we are experiencing as a result of loss of lives.”

He said the vehicles were meant to complement the efforts of the Federal Government. “I wish to extend my heartfelt condolence to the families of all the people that lost their lives in our trying moment. I also wish to call on all our people, irrespective of ethnic, political and religious differences to intensify prayers for peace to return,” the governor said.

In his response, the Inspector General said he was also worried by the “precarious security situation we found ourselves. This is unfortunate and unacceptable.”

Ringim said President Goodluck Jonathan had directed all security chiefs in the country to visit Borno and to ensure the restoration of peace in the state. “Now that the elections are over, our attention would be concentrated and I want to assure you that the days of the Boko Haram are numbered,” Ringim said.

Politics / Re: Mark Suspects Conspiracy Among Security Agencies by omamokta: 12:33pm On Jun 17, 2011
Its a fact, how come we have the police (Black and black, mopol, Anti terrorism squad, Anti bomb squad, CID), SSS, NIA and they could not get intelligent report(s) before this guy struck yesterday. Its rather unfortunate, they have to look inwards, some of them might be members of BOKO Haram. So this guy has been following the IG's convoy without the retuine of security men observing him, who told him the IG's movement. Something is fishing and the Nigerian police needs to be on top of the game if not we are inviting the soldiers.
Politics / Mark Suspects Conspiracy Among Security Agencies by omamokta: 12:19pm On Jun 17, 2011
Senate President David Mark has suspected internal conspiracy within the security agencies on the spate of bombings across the country.

Reacting to the blast that rocked the Nigerian Police Force headquarters in Abuja, Mark charged the security agencies to ‘look inwards’ in addressing the situation.

In statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, Paul Mumeh, Mark said people should cooperate with the security forces in bringing the dastardly acts to a halt saying “those who are committing these heinous crimes do not live in the moon, they live among us.

“I do not think that resort to killings or terrorism would answer our questions. The real answer lies in our ability to come together as a people and address our common problems.”

He expressed grave concern about the un-abating spate of bomb blast which he said was a threat to the security and corporate existence of Nigeria, saying, “No nation has ever progressed or survived in the midst of terror.”

Mark said no matter the grievances or anger in a man’s mind “resort to violence, terrorism or wanton destruction of lives and property cannot be a way out.”

The Senate President said that the security challenges called for synergy among all security agencies to bring the situation under control.

Mark sympathized with the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, and urged him not to be deterred but reinforce his operations in order to arrest the situation.

Crime / Re: My Friend Robbed By Police Men by omamokta: 12:08pm On Jun 17, 2011
The problem with Nigerian police is that there are a lot of bad eggs in the force, they recruit people with questionable characters. An example is one notorious boy during my secondary school days, every locker that were broken then were traced to him and his gang, the teachers' chicken were eaten by him and his gang, infact it was not hidden. He was expelled and he left to another shool where he finished. Then he graduated to break and enter. Lo and behold! when i saw him last two years, he was already a mopol corporal. You can imagine, are we not in trouble?

Being a cultist is a lesser crime than being an armed robber, good reasoning from a sharp mind.
