sammyj490: My first question is if the graphic design does not work out as planned where will you run to? If you just finished University then you still have a long runway ahead of you to learn. Usually I recommend new graduates stay in employment for 3-5byears at the minimum no matter how harsh this may be. Use that time to learn a new skill like the graphic design you are learning and save up at least one year in expense reserve. The new skill and money in reserve will prevent you from being desperate when you go out on your own. When I finished school I decided to write ICAN. I did a thankless job that didnt pay as much as yours about 30 months within which I finished my ICAN and made a change. About 4 to 5 hours sleep per day with no spare money in my pocket after paying for ICAN exams and lectures. Today I believe I am better off for it. Embrace the difficult and challenging times, have a plan to exit it in a few years and execute on that plan. 1 Like |

Mcy56: Frankly I don't see anything wrong with a telecom company applying for a payment service bank licence. It's all about leveraging their digital capabilities and deepening financial inclusion. Even full scale banks are in some of partnerships with most of the telecom companies for customer acquisition and payment services. As a matte fact you can enjoy limited cash withdrawal services from even petrol filling stations using their POS. As per OAKPearl's point on their borrowing N400 or is N200 billion, which you quoted, there is also nothing unusual about that. This year alone, Union, Sterling and Stanbic IBTC banks have all borrowed monies from the public via commercial papers. I think it's all about choosing the best financing from the wide range of available choices. |

No share listed on NSE can have a nominal value greater or less than 50k simply because it is the law. In the days of private placements i.e. pre 2008, all of those companies had nominal values of N1 per share but post PP when they had to list, he split each share into 2 of 50k nominal value to comply with listing requirements. That MTN release is a bit confusing to me but if the nominal value of each share is 2k, what this implies is that they have to consolidate 25 shares to create one share of 50k nominal value to enable them list on NSE. Ot implies that about 816 million ordinary shares of MTN of 50k nominal value each will be listed. It can't be any other way. Only shares of 50k nominal value can be listed on NSE as of today. |

STOjo: Frankly to answer that question, I started reluctantly as a teenager under the tutelage of my father so I will discount those years that I bought basically what he compelled me to buy because na him supply the money. In the second phase of my investing life, I have made more than I have lost but have not yet doubled invested capital. Curious things I have noted from keeping detailed records on all trades in past 3 years are that 1. Just about 20% of my trade/investment go the way I plan it. 2. About 30% cause me serious losses. Before I used to hold on and hope for positive reversals but effective 2017 i just sell them off and move on. I can come back to them at a later date. 3. Another 30% to 40% are lukewarm. Neither here no there. Just coasting, sometimes dividend, sometimes non. 4. 10% to 15% are where I earned mega returns and frankly this was pure chance rather than any insight or tradeing strategy. Example for 2018 was Diamond Bank and i was just a couple of days short of selling before the acquisition news broke. 2019 case is Dangflour that I didn't sell just because it was in a special account in CSCS and just hadn't gotten round to moving it to a broker. So in all, just about 30%-35% of my trades make serious returns to offset losses or indifference from the other 65% to 70%. Strange but true. I trust there are experts here with more stellar returns and success ratios who can educate us. However as I go to third phase of my investing life, I have observed and developed nuggets which may or may not help improve return ratios. Will share later. 6 Likes |
