Politics / Re: Combat Aircrafts Of The Nigerian Airforce (Photos) by oostin: 3:48pm On Mar 11, 2022
A lot of people commenting on this thread don't seem to understand the concept of combat/war.

Nigeria does not need as many aircrafts as Algeria or Egypt for example because none of Nigeria's neighbours poses a credible aerial threat to the country. We are actually on good terms with pretty much all our neighbours.

Algeria on the other hand has a very tense relationship with Morocco because of the territory called Western Sahara while Egypt borders a very volatile Middle East.

Most of Nigeria's threats comes from insurgents, terrorists, bandits, kidnappers e.t.c. who have no intentions of fighting a conventional war with the Nigerian military.

It therefore makes perfect sense that most of the aircrafts Nigeria is buying at the moment are aircrafts with ground attack capabilities which is what we really need.

You don't buy aircrafts to put them on display, you but aircrafts because you need them. I am sure when the need arises for some fancy MiG 29 Fulcrum we will get some of them.

They were in power for sixteen (16) whole years and didn't deem it fit to discuss restructuring.

Now they are out of power it has become convenient to discuss restructuring. Utter Rubbish!!!

Properties / Re: My Tenant Has Refused To Pack Out For Over A Year Now, Help Please! by oostin: 12:35pm On Dec 10, 2020
Get a good lawyer who would advise you on what to do.

Under no circumstance should you or the Police break into the property.

If you do that the tenant would sue for damages and would almost certainly win. Our laws and courts seriously discourage landlords from resulting to self-help in trying to evict tenants.

I'm aware that the Lagos State Landlord and Tenant Law of 2011 provided for damages of N250,000 against a landlord who results to self-help in trying to evict a tenant. I don't know what the current law states but there'll definitely be a provision for damages if you forcefully enter the premises.
Politics / Re: Reps To Increase Supreme Court Justices From 21 To 41 by oostin: 12:27pm On Dec 10, 2020
It's not the number of Justices that is the problem.

The United States Supreme Court has 9 Justices who serve for life and they're doing just fine.

The problem with the Supreme Court of Nigeria is that there are so many cases that get to the Supreme Court that have no business being there. It's preposterous that matters between landlords and tenants still get to the Supreme Court.

The Nigerian Supreme Court should mirror the Unites States Supreme Court and handle mainly constitutional matters and criminal matters involving the death penalty.

Of course this would require an amendment to the Constitution and some of our extant laws.

Politics / Re: Arthur Eze: ‘Obiano Is A Small Fry’ by oostin: 11:46am On Aug 17, 2020
OfoIgbo:
Arthur Eze should understand that Anambra is not Lagos or Edo.

Anambra is something else. In spite of all his money, and in spite of the fact that he's seemingly speaking in favour of the Anambra traditional rulers, he only managed to get just a few of them on his side, and I am sure a number of them are even turning away from him.

Even if Arthur wants, he can install Trump and the UK prime minister. That will not move Anambrarians into kissing his ass. That is the sort of politics he can play in Lagos. He wants to be the JAGABANdit of Anambra. Iyasikwa

OBJ tried to put Anambra in his pocket, and Anambra immediately went for his d!ck. Chris Ubah tried his bit in collusion with OBJ and still failed.
Buhari took a look into Anambra in 2017, saw the impossibility of pocketing Anambra, and rather fought to secure second place for APC. He was very happy with that result. Anambra is a no-go area for moneybags and dictators.

Thanks to Ikemba Nnewi who helped to massively fortify Anambra before he left to be with the Lord. Ikemba's efforts is the reason why Anambra will always be likely to elect the leaders that the people want. In 2021, people like Soludo and Maduka, will be the hot cakes for the gubernatorial seat. And there is nothing moneybags like Arthur Eze will be able to do about it. He can double what he gave Tony Nwoye the last time. It will make no atom of difference. He can relocate to Lagos if he wants.

The same Anambra state where Emeka Offor pretty much single-handedly installed Mbadinuju as Governor and Chris Uba installed Chris Ngige as Governor?

Obiano was also the anointed candidate of Peter Obi who pulled him out of Fidelity Bank. Peter Obi is the only one who didn't have a godfather.

The sad truth is that every state in Nigeria has its own godfathers. It's quite unfortunate but that's the way Nigerian politics is run.

Even Obaseki who keeps saying that Edo is not Lagos would also seek to install his own candidate as Governor if he wins the election in September.

He would refuse to hand over to Shuaibu because he would want someone he can control.

That's the way of Nigerian politics and no state is an exception.

Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Population To Overtake China’s By 2100 –University Of Washington Study by oostin: 4:41pm On Jul 15, 2020
Honestly your post does not make much sense.

On one hand the caption says Nigeria will overtake China and become the most populous nation in the world by 2100 and on the other hand you state in the body of the post that the study predicts that the population of Nigeria will be 791 million by 2100 making it number 2 in the world in that particular year.

China's current population is about 1.4 billion while India's current population is about 1.3 billion. That means that by this mysterious study Nigeria's population will grow by over 500 million within this period while the respective populations of China and India will reduce by roughly 500 million. How's that even possible?!!

While it is certainly possible for Nigeria's population to increase by 500 million by 2100, it's practically impossible for the respective populations of China and India to reduce by the same figure within the same period.
Sports / Re: Why And When Did You Start Supporting Your Favorite Football Club? by oostin: 8:51am On Jul 06, 2020
Basically I've always had two teams, AC Milan and Chelsea.

Started supporting AC Milan in 1988-1989 thereabouts after watching football Italia (Serie A was far and away the best league in the world then and AC Milan was the best team in Serie A).

Started following Chelsea in 1996 when my favourite player, Ruud Gullit, left AC Milan to join Chelsea.

Now I also follow Barcelona basically because of Lionel Messi.

Nice deal for Bayern munich, but bad deal for Manchester city.
Leroy Sane will be a perfect replacement for retired franck ribery.
And bundesliga will favor him as a German National.
This is nice business, the price tag is OK.

TV/Movies / Re: TSTV Loses Office Due To Debt - Premium Times by oostin: 11:25am On Jun 10, 2020
I honestly can't understand why Nigerians have not yet realised that this whole TSTV thing was a scam.

They were just fantasising without bothering to come up with a proper business model. How can you promise to televise all premier league matches on a subscription of about N5,000. Did they intend to steal signals.

Nigerians really need to understand a lot more about international businesses. The parent company of DSTV is a company called Naspers International which has access to tonnes of cash through its 31% shareholding in Chinese technology giant Tencent. At the moment it is very difficult to compete with DSTV at the premium content level.

TSTV should have followed the Startimes model by entering the market at the level where they broadcast regular content which is cheaper and easier to obtain and then work their way up the content ladder to the level where they can charge market reflective subscription rates.

Till date no one can state with certainty who the backers of TSTV are. Abeg make una shine una eyes well, well.

Politics / Re: Yerima Shettima: Northern Governors Have Turned Killings, Banditry Into Business by oostin: 10:14am On May 29, 2020
Sanchez01:
Some of these Northern elites deliberately stoked and sponsored terrorism in their region, not just for security votes but also on religious and highly political grounds.

Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, was sponsored and backed by some Northern elites to destabilize a non-Northerner's administration and to resist Western education, just so Shari'ah can gain recognition. Buhari was one of the most vocal clowns who supported the propagation of Islam and Sharia'ah through the Boko Haram sect.

First, it was the killing of Southern Kaduna folks just because they chose a different faith and perhaps resisted El rufai during the guber. Then seeing that Boko Haram had kept our military boxed, they found a need to invent a mobile militia that would move around the country and wreck havoc for expansion sake.

The irony of it all is that Buhari was voted by some based on his antecedent with the Maitatsine uprising. Today, not only has he failed but has also turned the once-powerful Nigeria Army that was the cynosure of West Africa; the same that wrestled South Africa from bondage into a boy scout group. Our soldiers are not only poorly treated but under-equipped to tackle the insurgent head-on.

Chadian soldiers now command more respect than the Nigeria Army while crime has become hydr-headed more than ever. We judged wrong. Sinzu money is not interested in the welfare of Nigerians other than borrowing money from the IMF and World Bank or take to begging on Twitter.

Some key Northern players are greatly profiting from the chaos in the North and the only way to curb it in the South is to put up regional security outfits to defend themselves because Buhari's scorecard has shown that he is a failure, most importantly on security.

If I remember correctly Mohammed Yunus was killed by the Nigeria Police in 2009 during the administration of the late President Yarádua which was before the time of President Goodluck Jonathan.

But I do agree that the bulk of the violence in the North is politically motivated.

She is a Christian and a middle belt woman, Buhari would keep her on Acting Capacity till he finds a muslim core northerner like he did with Onoghen and DSS boss

.
The President does not have the constitutional powers to appoint a substantive President of the Court of Appeal.

He must first receive the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, appointment the person recommended by the NJC then send the name of the person appointed to the Senate for confirmation as the substantive President of the Court of Appeal.

Must we be overtly sentimental about everything?!

Why in acting capacity when she is the most senior?
She is acting because the NJC has not yet sent its recommendation to the President as is required by the Constitution.

I'm sure when the NJC sends her name to the President for appointment as substantive President of the Court of Appeal, the President will send her name to the Senate for confirmation.

But hey, I think I need to remind us that the Second Niger bridge was commissioned as Public Private Partnership Project.

What that means, as I remember president GEJ saying then, is that once the govt pays it's counterpart fund for the project, which Jonathan did, the project will go on irrespective of who is in power.

That's the truth they don't want us to remember.

Are you for real?!! Goodness me you guys make me sick.

If Jonathan paid the full counterpart fund then why was the project abandoned?!

First of all, did an Arbitrator mediate over the proceedings at the mediation centre? Secondly, was there an Arbitral Award? If there was an Arbitral Award then get a lawyer to institute proceedings in court to enforce the Arbitral Award.

If there is no Arbitral Award then get a lawyer to serve him the necessary notices (in this case a Seven Days' Notice of Owner's Intention to Recover Possession) and thereafter evict him from the premises through the Magistrate Court.

Please do not under any circumstance try to evict him forcefully from the premises. The Lagos State Landlord and Tenant Law provides for damages to be awarded to the Tenant in a situation where the Landlord evicts him forcefully. It used to be N250,000 in the 2011 Law, I'm not sure how much it is now.

In 1994 perhaps the worst genocide Africa has ever known was committed in Rwanda where over 800,000 people out of a population of just over 7,000,000 were killed. It was caused by hate speech.

Between 1939 and 1945 over seventy million people were killed during world war 2, a war which is often described as the deadliest conflict in human history. It was caused by the hatred spewed by Hitler and his goons.

Hate speech is not and can never be free speech. We really need to be very careful with out utterances as Nigeria and Africa in general can not survive another Nigerian civil war.
