Nairaland / General / Donald Trump Among “list Of Con Artists Still Living” Says Wikipedia by Ovasabianthony: 1:30pm On Jun 28, 2020
While organising materials for an article on Ponzi schemes, I came across this write up about Donald Trump on Wikipedia, which I thought I should share with you. It’s weird how the current president of the mighty USA can be listed as a con artist.

Have you ever encountered a con artist? A con artist, according to the Cambridge dictionary, is a person who deceives other people by making them believe something false or making them give money away.

Donald J. Trump was listed by Wikipedia among con artists that are still living. The brief article described how President Trump defrauded 7000 enrollees from 2005-2010 through now-defunct Trump University (sometimes also known as the Trump Wealth Institute and Trump Entrepreneur Initiative LLC).

The university was never an accredited institution of higher education, neither did it confer college credit, nor granted degrees, nor graded its students. Trump University used high-pressure tactics and misleading claims to sell three-to-five-day seminars billed as “retreats” to courses in real estate, asset management, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.

During the operations of the infamous university, Donald Trump advertised the Trump University saying, ‘At Trump University we teach success. That’s what it’s all about. Success. It’s going to happen to you.”

According to Stephen Gilpin, former professor at the defunct university : This wasn’t your average college student. Even though there were some of them that were young enough. These were middle-aged students and single housewives where their husband had passed away. Gilpin alluded that Trump was a con artist who pulled a fast one on people that wanted to make a difference in their life through real estate. He added that, “These people were taking their life savings or some cases their life savings or taking their retirements and some of them were even maxing out their credit cards to pay $35,000 to get that coaching, the infill, some retreats. You heard of Donald Trump and you thought, “real estate empire, self-made man.”

His clarification behind the con continued as Stephen Gilpin explained that when he came up from Florida for interview, he realised that no one among those interviewing him really knew real estate. He was later then to selected his pedigree as a professor to actually work as their inside house coach mentor. At that point in time, according to Gilpin, “It wasn’t totally honest what was going on…They’re sharks in the water and they’re just high pressured sales people…They were lying and through the students calling me in and telling me through the hotlines. That’s when we realized that uh oh. This is not gonna go far and it’s gonna go downhill.”

So, how did the court case end up?

Judge Gonzalo Curiel, in the Southern District of California on Monday, 9th of April 2018, finalized a $25 million settlement to be paid to attendees of the now-defunct real estate seminar called Trump University. Judge Curiel said, “This settlement marked a stunning reversal by President Trump, who for years refused to compensate the victims of his sham university.” He added, “My office won’t hesitate to hold those who commit fraud accountable, no matter how rich or powerful they may be.”

The Trump Organization spokesman said when the lawsuit was filed that he had “no doubt” Trump University would prevail if the case went to trial, but a “resolution of these matters” was a priority so Trump could focus on running the country.

Crime / How Lockdown Turned Me Into Yahoo-yahoo by Ovasabianthony: 2:17pm On Jun 25, 2020
The pandemic, I must confess, has turned me into a beggar and it’s really, REALLY serious. My job as a private school teacher no longer exists. Most private schools have stopped paying their staff salaries since pupils no longer attend schools and as a result, parents do not pay school fees. Most of the complaints and rant, about the government not assisting private schools, have fallen on deaf ears. Then I met Bobo.
Everybody knew Bobo is a Yahoo boy. He just bought a nice Prado SUV, rented a three bedroom flat and ‘tastingly’ furnished it, ALL IN THIS PANDEMIC O!
So, I approached the bros (Bobo must be like 20 years my junior). Money is a funny thing, shey?! Because of money, one small boy has suddenly turned to bros before my very eyes.
Bobo is a friend to a friend of a friend that knows one personal friend of mine. I was seriously eager to ask him, “Can you teach me how to do Yahoo-Yahoo?” Instead of asking directly, I rambled on and on and on. On how my blog wasn’t getting enough views. How things have become unbearably difficult. How the government ignored private school teachers….and so on. I just couldn’t brace myself to ask Tobi how he does online scam a.k.a Yahoo-Yahoo.

Bobo just smiled. He knew what I was driving at. So he asked, “Bros. You wan do Yahoo-Yahoo?” I was shocked by his bluntness.

“Ah-aah. Guy, try and be coded naa! I get laptop and I need original VPN. I get idea o! But how to start is my main problem.”

Tobi, almost laughing at my gullible insistence to secrecy, said he knew a guy who could sell original VPN for #4000. I repeated that my problem was how to start. He took my phone, opened the Facebook app, then searched for Rotten Tomatoes. He told me verified pages like Rotten Tomatoes have members from the United States. One can get acquainted with these people then secure a cordial relationship with them, before you know it they may eventually send you some dollars.

Mehnnn, that sounded like a long thing! I decided to give it a shot. So I registered with Rotten Tomatoes. I registered on other Facebook groups such as: Widows dating group, Single Parents, Divorce, Single Parents 40+, Senior Dating 50/60 . I also registered on several Facebook bloggers’ groups which I hoped would improve views on my blog.

By the way, I have been working pretty hard on my six months old blog. They say the secret to a successful blog is to churn out more engaging articles, get more traction on followers and voila! Money starts rolling in. Adsense would pay at least $100 every month, which is around #37000. That money can surely solve a lot of problems. But who am I kidding? My Adsense account barely bleeds up to $5 after six months!

Back to my Yahoo adventure. I never got far with Rotten Tomatoes. But the other groups were a hit. I was hailed and welcomed in several groups. One group, Single parents 40+, is dominated by South African women. I received 40 welcome messages from members of that group. Welcome messages popped up everywhere: Welcome king; Welcome sweety; Feel at home; You are welcome, may God give you the desires of your heart.

At this point in time, my thoughts of scamming just fizzled away. I didn’t have it in me to scam anyone. Meanwhile, I was enjoying a brand new ‘Yahoo’ world that just uncovered before my very eyes. A world existing through Facebook. A new world of interaction with people from across the globe – real people! And as a writer, I cherish such opportunities. Nothing beats the mystery laden experience in having a first hand experience from diverse people across the continent! The feeling is truly nostalgic.

Barely 24 hours after registering with these groups, I had my first Facebook video call through Messenger from a Philippino woman. I initially missed her call, so I tried calling back. Unfortunately, the missed calls went on for the next two days. Finally, on the third day I sent a message that I was available. In a twinkle of an eye, the call came through. My excitement knew no bounds. We spoke for barely two minutes and she said she needed to prepare herself dinner. I told her goodbye. Later on, the lady sent a message through Messenger apologizing that she was ashamed. I asked her what she was ashamed about. She told me I was too young for her because she was 60 years old. I placated her that age is just a number. We are now good friends on Facebook.

I know of a Nigerian scammer who would chat with 20 women at the same time! He claims he made up to $20000 through online dating scams. Now I’ve gotten to this point and, by the way, I use my original Facebook account that contains virtually 15 years of my life history. It certainly would be foolish of me to scam anyone because if ‘I try am’, EFCC may end up becoming my best friends for life.

Health / COVID-19 New Cure, Dexamethasone: Find Out Why U Shouldn't Get Too Carried Away by Ovasabianthony: 9:43am On Jun 18, 2020
On Tuesday, 16th of March, after six months and 8 million positive COVID-19 cases, a group of medical researchers from the UK’s Oxford University gave the world a breath of fresh air. They announced an amazing result from their clinical trial that dexamethasone, a widely available steroid, can help high-risk COVID-19 patients recover quickly. They claim that the corticosteroid reduced deaths by up to one third in severely ill COVID-19 patients.Scientists research into cure for COVID-19

The U.K. government has approved the treatment of patients with dexamethasone which costs just £5 ($6). Even The WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has hailed the announcement as good news. He has congratulated the UK government for the research saying, “This is great news and I congratulate the Government of the UK, the University of Oxford, and the many hospitals and patients in the UK who have contributed to this lifesaving scientific breakthrough.WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

“This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support.”

The World Health Organization is urging the public to be cautious about dexamethasone as information on its use as a treatment for Covid-19 is still in the preliminary stages.

Results from the RECOVERY trial at the University of Oxford were “very significant,” but it was only one study according to Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s emergencies program, who said that they have to “see the real data, the full data”. Dr Kathryn Hibbert

American doctors have urged caution over the findings emphasizing on the recent withdrawal of the experimental use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment. Dr Kathryn Hibbert, director of the intensive care unit at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital mentioned in the British journal saying, “We have been burned before, not just during the coronavirus pandemic but even pre-Covid, with exciting results that when we have access to the data are not as convincing.” Pandu Riono

Pandu Riono, a public health expert from the University of Indonesia, urged the public not to buy the drug for individual treatment.

“The drug cannot be taken carelessly,” Panji said that dexamethasone is not meant to be consumed regularly due to the risk of side effects such as a bloated face to internal organ damage. He warned that the drug must be taken on strict medical supervision.

World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also stated that dexamethasone is exclusively for “seriously ill and critical patients who can benefit from this drug clearly”. Justin Denholm

Justin Denholm, Associate Professor at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, said if you’ve only got mild symptoms like a runny nose or a sore throat, it wouldn’t be effective.

“This medication works by reducing inflammation..The sickest people – those in intensive care needing ventilators – those were the ones getting the most benefits from it.”

It is significant that the results for dexamethasone were found in a randomised clinical trial – where patients who had the drug are compared with those who didn’t.

Clearly, self medication is out of the question. Nigerians, who risk self medication due to their comatose health institutions, risk having organ poisoning when taken for a prolonged time. Dexamethasone appears not to help people with milder symptoms of coronavirus whose breathing are still manageable.

Dexamethasone vs Hydroxychloroquine

Previous drugs which were touted as cures for coronavirus have not been through this type of rigorous study before being declared beneficial. Recently, the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine was presented by French researcher Didier Raoult and promoted by the President of the United States. Observations clearly showed that hydroxychloroquine is associated with an increased risk of death in COVID-19 patients. Dexamethasone and hydroxychloroquine

The Oxford researchers who identified dexamethasone as an effective treatment had to stop the study of hydroxychloroquine due to a “lack of efficacy”. Hydroxychloroquine has been withdrawn by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of COVID-19.Madagascar herbal cure

Dexamethasone vs Madagascar herbal cure

The Minister of Health of Nigeria, Dr Osagie Ehanire has stated that the federal government of Nigeria is yet to receive a report from research centres about the efficacy of the recently imported Madagascar herbal cure.

According to Dr. Ehanire, “We do not have any information yet. We have given them to our research centres and they are working on them. None of them has reported back yet.

“The time it will take for all these researches is not what we know, but I think after a period, I will reach out to them to find out if they can give me an interim report.”

Without mincing words, dexamethasone has no effect on covid-19 infection. The drug effect is on the severe inflammation caused by the body’s aggressive immune body response which triggers violent reactions in the body. Another rumour debunked is that dexamethasone is NOT a vaccine.

Romance / Why Married Men Pretend To Be Single Online by Ovasabianthony: 10:48am On Jun 13, 2020
The beauty about beauty parlour gossip is that at times topics can get heated beyond the heat from the hair dryers.
Ladies’ favourite topic was in the air at the classic Phase 2 Unisex Saloon and Spa located at Isolo, Lagos. Women poured out their hearts as to why married men would hide their rings and pretend to be single just to go out with single ladies. Phase 2 Unisex Saloon
Madam Suzan Ikhisemoje, owner of Phase 2 Unisex Saloon and Spa, checked on Melissa’s hair, her regular client. She needed to find out whether Melissa’s hair was dried enough so she could come out of the hairdryer. Melissa was undaunted by the hum and heat from the dryer as she rendered her experience on the matter.
According to Melissa, Ugo had dated her for one month and, of course, he claimed to be single. One day, Melissa saw a lady’s picture on his WhatsApp but he claimed it was his elder sister who just got married. Then one awkward day, that same woman called Melissa’s number out of the blues. Melissa recorded their phone conversation. The woman even sent pictures of their wedding. With all the evidence, Ugo still denied that he wasn’t married!
Pouting her lips in disgust, Melissa hissed saying, “My sister, fear men o! Ugo would follow me to church and everywhere. He would call me like 120 times a day. Did you know he wanted to introduce himself to my family? Not until his wife called that day! But it didn’t end there. Three years after this nightmare, Ugo still called me to tell me that he loves me. Imagine the cheek! He sounded depressed. But after that I never heard from him again.”
It was Kehinde’s turn to speak. Her hair was rolled up but not yet time for the dryer.
Kehinde’s experience was back then in 2012 while still in school. She had asked this guy if he was married and he said no. But Kehinde had this hanging suspicion that he was not being honest.
So one day she decided to call him using a friend’s number. Kehinde said she was a customer of his wife who wanted to repay a loan the wife had given to her. Immediately, she heard the guy screaming in the background of the phone, ” Darling! Darling!! Come and talk to your customer.” Kehinde said she quickly switched off the phone. She later called him to ask him if it was worth denying his wife and children because of what he may never get. She never saw him again.
Suzan”s salon was now heating up with all this gossip. Julia, done with her hair, was enjoying the conversation. She decided to add her experience.
Julia met Michael on Facebook and they’ve been chatting for two months. That is, after lying that he wasn’t married and was seeking a serious relationship. “Imagine the daft, ” Julia howled, “he claimed to be single yet had a picture of a lady as his profile pics.” At first, Julia was like…, “Why would this man lie about his marital status or could he be divorced?”
Julia explained further, “I checked the lady’s Facebook profile and started chatting with her. She told me she was Michael’s wife and that he has three grown up kids! Na so church dismiss! I sharpily-sharpily sent a message telling him to go and take care of his family! Till now, Michael still claims to be single. This guy still claimed that his wedding was an arrangee wedding because of travelling. LIARS!”
Susan helped summarize the whole issue raised by bashing up men folks who hide their marital status. Hear her: Cheating husbands are demonic! They are malicious! They are toxic! They are the lowest creatures to ever walk this earth.
No sane woman would endure the thought of becoming a second fiddle. These crafty scumbag think they are smart. But they are just digging their early graves. They feed you with lies with stupid promises just to end in between your legs!”
As the ladies in the beauty salon bare their minds, the question still lingers: Why do married men pretend to be single online?
From Susan’s outburst, you would conveniently think the answer would be: sex. But sex therapists would tell you it’s more complicated than that.
It’s puzzling that a married man would lie and romance a young woman, knowing that such a relationship has no future. Why do they do it? And why are they so prevalent on the internet?
Married men, who make believe they’re single online, can be compared to men who are hooked on gambling.
Addicted gamblers would borrow money to use at the gambling table despite the fact that they’ll never be able to recover such money. So, you can imagine the mindset of such a man. Once he is into it, he wouldn’t care even if he was going to lose.
Pretending to be single online does require a particular mindset. Such a man must psychologically invoke a short-term mental attitude because he knows such affairs will not end well. What about his emotions? A pretender online must ensure he bottles up every feeling that would compromise his prank. Did you know that such a mindset is emotional torture and many may not be able to withstand such stress. Small wonder such elderlies who cheat end up kicking the bucket on top of their lovers.
Still, why do it? Why hide the wedding ring and go after single women, knowing you’re just going to break their hearts?
Mental health professionals have lots of theories on this issue such as early emotional abuse, neglect, too few good role models, too many bad ones. The stories usually involve early heartbreak—children starved for love and told they’re no good by parents who were treated the same way, and the cycle continues.
For men caught up in serially repeating one of these pathetic stories as reasons to cheat online, I’m sorry to inform you that the internet would simply let you fool yourself with a larger audience.
It’s pertinent to point out here that emotional insecurity that leads men into such crazy acts can be traced to their childhood. It’s important we teach our children to be careful with how they deal with people’s emotions. We need to teach the young ones that true relationships begin with honesty. True relationships do not dazzle like a diamond like stories in Disney and romance stories.
As parents, we need to do our part in curbing this scourge. We need to invest quality time heavily in the emotional makeup of our kids. We must ensure our children don’t go out into the world too hungry for love. Let’s show care and the true value of family bonding.

Health / Why China Must Pay For Creating COVID-19! by Ovasabianthony: 5:45pm On Jun 12, 2020
Believe it or not, “COVID-19 was manufactured!” This bold claim came from a group of Norwegian scientists and their claim is fully backed up by an ex-British intel head. The new study strongly points fingers at China that they are likely the possible origin of the virus. Their research supports the claims that Covid-19 is not of natural origins.

Virologist Birger Sorensen, who is part of the research team, discovered that the coronavirus’s spike protein contains sequences that appear to be artificially inserted.

This research has again beamed the searchlight on the hilly outskirts of Wuhan, the city at the heart of the coronavirus crisis, where the Chinese high-security biosafety laboratory is located and the cradle of the pandemic.

Chinese scientists made the world believe that COVID-19 likely jumped from an animal to humans in the Wuhan market. These Chinese doctors and scientists had encountered Covid-19 patients as early as November 2019 and did their job in promptly alerting the authorities. But Beijing clamped down on these scientists and their efforts to research the virus and notify the world. Beijing allowed a large number of its own people to move about, in and out of Wuhan, despite the government knowing of the dire risks; even after cordoning off Wuhan from the rest of China, it still permitted foreign travel which eventually led to the spread of the virus to the rest of the world.

Conspiracy theories of the virus originating from the Wuhan facility have now spread like Wild fire. But, at the heart of the conspiracies, begs the question whether it is possible to artificially alter the genetic makeup of a virus like the coronavirus?

A genetically modified virus is a virus that has been altered or generated using biotechnology methods, and remains capable of infection. Genetic modification involves the directed insertion, deletion, artificial synthesis or change of nucleotide bases in viral genomes. Genetically modified viruses are mostly generated by the insertion of foreign genes into viral genomes for the purposes of biomedical, agricultural, bio-control, or technological objectives. Yes, it is possible to artificially alter the genetic makeup of a virus.

According to Sorenson, “The inserted sequences should never have been published. Had it been today, it would never have happened. It was a big mistake the Chinese made. The inserted sequences have a functionality that we describe. We explain why they are essential. But the Chinese pointed to them first.”

The researchers found that the virus had been designed to bind to humans. They pointed out that COVID-19 has hardly mutated since it’s inception. This simply means that the virus was already fully adapted to humans.

Former MI6 head Richard Dearlove has supported the claim. He suggested that scientists may have been carrying out gene-splicing experiment, but rejected theories that this may have been for malevolent purposes. He insinuated that the release of the virus may have been an accident.

“It’s a risky business if you make a mistake. Look at the stories of the attempts by the leadership to lock down any debate about the origins of the pandemic and the way that people have been arrested or silenced”, he said.

The 300-million-yuan ($42 million) Wuhan lab was completed in 2015, and finally opened in 2018, with the founder of a French bioindustrial firm, Alain Merieux, acting as a consultant in its construction.

The institute also has a P3 laboratory that has been in operation since 2012.

The 3,000-square-meter (32,000-square-foot) P4 lab, located in a square building with a cylindrical annex, lies near a pond at the foot of a forested hill in Wuhan’s remote outskirts.

United States secretary of state Mike Pompeo later confirmed there is substantial evidence that the coronavirus originated in the Chinese state-backed Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The United States has now brought the allegations into the mainstream, with Pompeo saying U.S. officials are doing a “full investigation” into how the virus “got out into the world.”

Some scientists believe the virus originated in bats before being passed to humans through an intermediary species — possibly the endangered pangolin, whose scales are illegally trafficked in China for traditional medicine. Institute researcher Shi Zhengli, one of China’s leading experts on bat coronaviruses and the deputy director of the P4 lab, was part of the team that published the first study to suggest that SARS-CoV-2 came from bats.

But a study by a group of Chinese scientists published in The Lancet in January showed that the first COVID-19 patient had no connection to Wuhan’s infamous animal market, and neither did 13 of the first 41 confirmed cases.

In an interview with Scientific American, Shi said the SARS-CoV-2 genome sequence did not match any of the bat coronaviruses her laboratory had previously collected and studied.

Filippa Lentzos, biosecurity researcher at King’s College London, said while there is currently no proof for the lab accident theory, there is also “no real evidence” that the virus came from the wet market.

“For me, the pandemic origin is still an open question,” Lentzos said.

There are some indications “that could point to a potential lab accident from basic scientific research,” she said.

“But all of this needs considerable investigation for anyone to say anything with any certainty on the pandemic origins.”

David Heymann, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, also said there was no evidence about its origin but it is “closely related to a bat virus.”

“There are many theories of how humans could’ve been infected, and I don’t think any of them are able to be substantiated at present.”

The Trump administration has both praised China’s response to COVID-19 and persisted in blaming China for the pandemic, with the administration now wanting a UN Security Council resolution on COVID-19 to identify China as the source of the coronavirus.

President Xi has defended China’s actions saying that China as acted responsibly by releasing information such as the genome sequence of the virus “at the earliest possible time” and shared its experiences in attempting to control and treat the disease.

“All along, we have acted with openness, transparency and responsibility,” Xi said. “We have provided information to the WHO and the relevant countries in a most timely fashion.”

Professor John Yoo laid it bear saying, “The United States and other nations must hold China accountable not because of anger—though that sentiment is entirely justified—nor a desire for retribution. The world must make China pay in order to create incentives that will force it to improve its behavior. That may well demand measures that will force China to experience the full costs of its recklessness.’

Do you agree that China must pay the world for the COVID-19 pandemic? In what ways can China be made to pay if found guilty?

Crime / Yahoo Boy And His Mother Made Maga Pay, But Something Went Wrong by Ovasabianthony: 6:51pm On Jun 11, 2020
Yahoo boys have become very popular in Lagos State. The young envy them and because of crazy amount of money, even the elderlies adore them. This is a story about a Yahoo boy and his mother.

The timepiece on Bobo’s hands showed 11.15pm on the dot. A cloak of darkness had engulfed Alape Avenue as the street echoed in silence due to desertion. Insecurity during the pandemic has made everyone the wiser. Lagos State also had relaxed curfew time from 8pm to 10 pm.

The black gate to Mama Bobo’s residence was padlocked at this time. Bobo, in the company of three of his friends, stood in front of the gate and with his cell phone, he called his mother to come and open the metal gate.

Mother, son with his three friends gingerly strolled through the silent compound. Prying eyes from the front neighbour trailed five shadows walking away from his mosquito netted window. He shook his head and violently hissed in disgust and disbelief. How the heck would a 50+ years old lady indulge her son with such friends at this odd hour when everybody was already indoors for safety reasons?

The only noise that tore through the silence was the hoarse blare from the Tiger generator .As Mama Bobo and the boys approached their Boys’ Quarters residence, the noise from the generator must have muffled the neighbour’s angry thoughts as he quickly retired to his bed.

The gory scenario of Nigeria’s economic landscape has been further mired by the worsening activities of Yahoo boys also known as cyber criminals. The suffocating poverty, corrupt political leadership and a proliferation of internet service providers have provided the perfect breeding soil for the rising tide of global internet fraudsters. The “Yahoo Boys” phenomenon, despite the presence of law enforcement agencies, is ever on the increase.

Bobo Daniel Chukwudu, Damilola Ahmed, Felix Ndubisi and Karen Russell, at precisely 2am impersonated the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of an American Manufacturing Company. They succeeded in transferring the sum of $82, 570. 00 (Eighty Two Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy US Dollars).

As it turned out, the four Yahoo boys successfully played a fast one by sending an email from personal@managements-securemail-office-portal ordering the account department of the company to transfer the said amount.

Bobo, at 2am immediately woke his mother up for the beginning of celebration. One single phrase from her son sent the elderly lady into a fit of frenzy: MAGA DON PAY! Literally means ‘The fool has paid’. The other boys were already in celebration mode popping a bottle of champagne. The small Tiger generator continued blaring, masking off shouts of jubilation. The quiet darkness of twilight finally took over the poor suburban neighbourhood in Lagos State where four internet criminals and a mother had successfully received money via internet fraud.

Three months later, the five of them were arrested following a petition from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Armed with the petition, the operatives of the Commission immediately swung into action and arrested the boys and Bobo’s mother. She was arrested while withdrawing money from one of the marked accounts used in receiving the stolen money.

An investigator with the EFCC explained how the official email address of the American Manufacturing company was hacked which led to the transfer the sum of $82, 570.

After the charges were read to the convicts, they pleaded guilty to the four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences and were each sentenced to three years imprisonment.

The big poser is, “Would news about the conviction of an internet fraudster and his mother on a four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of $82, 570, ever deter mothers like these?”

I dare say, NO! Already, some see these Yahoo boys as heroes. Parents, who are driven by poverty, have become so shallow minded and greed driven to the point of encouraging their children into the dastardly art of thievery via the internet.

In sympathy to the boys who got caught, James, the neighbour who watched Bobo’s mother open the gate for Bobo and his friends at the beginning of this article, said that the youths perpetrating these crimes are not a bunch of lazy hooligans. According to him, most of these youths don’t have the opportunity, the means, the avenue and the resources to empower themselves. “If you wish to learn Carpentry,” he said, “you’ll be asked to dole out at least a #100,000 before learning. This is one reason why the youths are frustrated. The youths cannot protest because our corrupt leaders are protected by the police and army. In addition, the Nigerian economy is just too harsh.”

Kachi, Bobo’s close friend also added that there are no jobs in the country. “Even Bobo himself is jobless.” He said, ” Most of these boys are graduates and if the government hadn’t failed us, these young men would have been very productive growing the economy of the country.” He added that the fraudsters are emulating the bigger Yahoo boys who are the government officials.
