Politics / Re: "niger-delta" Does Not Exist? True Or False. by ow11(m): 10:11am On Nov 06, 2010
EzeUche0:

I disagree. Only Delta and Bayelsa state can be considered part of the Niger Delta geographically speaking.

Delta - a low triangular area of alluvial deposits where a river divides before entering a larger body of water;

The river Niger empties between Delta State, Rivers State and Bayelsa State. Not the other states that you mentioned. The other states that you mentioned have rivers, but they are just tributaries.

I would at this point assume you know what alluvial deposits mean. The Niger delta deposits (speaking about the 3rd cycle of deposition) began in the Tertiary (~65 million years ago) around the areas surrounding Onitsha and NE Edo state. It has progressively moved southwards and today the deltaic alluvial deposits are currently being deposited offshore.

If you want to be scientifically correct then yes you have to include these states as they currently have outcropping deltaic deposits. The tributaries of the Niger-Benue river  can be found in Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Ondo and Akwa-Ibom. These rivers are salty due to tidal actions of the ocean. So in all, even with an absence of oil, these states overlie the delta.

Rooney's wages was used as a metaphor in that sentence to mean higher wages. Even Arsenal players don't earn that! However NPL players should be comfortable with between 200k and 400k if people actually paid to watch games. As it stands, I don't think the pay is horrible. As they also get winning bonuses and if they play well in Africa, they even get more bonuses.
Politics / Re: "niger-delta" Does Not Exist? True Or False. by ow11(m): 9:39am On Nov 06, 2010
@Ezeuche

Actually the states that are underlain by the delta in Nigeria geographically speaking are Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Imo, Abia, Anambra and Part of Edo states.

Any other thing is just politics and misrepresentation caused by lack of an understanding of what a delta actually is.

This is the sort of nonsense that we call politics in Nigeria. Killing and maiming in the bid to land at the free money oil and gas promises once in power. I sympathise with his family members on their loss.

On the flip-side, a few people may not shed a tear for the late Paago as he had a inglorious reputation during his days as a Law lecturer at RSUST in PH. He was fingered by a couple of students as a man who saw no problem with p***y for grades. Whilst he had a chequered past, it is a sad story that our country has now become as dangerous as a war zone where each day you wake up is indeed a miracle.
Sports / Re: Nigerian League Fan Thread: Enter D Place N Know Every by ow11(m): 1:14pm On Nov 05, 2010
Most of the overaged morons we have in the NPL want Rooney wages for their piss poor performance, casual approach to games, bone crunching tackles and poor marksmanship.

They deserve what they earn and if they want £250k, they should play like Rooney.

Naa, it can't be fact. It is an urban myth I heard on skysports because a lot of EPL managers are ex-defenders meanwhile the greatest managers (Ferguson, Michel) were ex-strikers.

However, Keshi edges this one on experience in my opinion.

Sports / Re: Eagles, Black Stars May Miss CAN 2012! by ow11(m): 6:37pm On Oct 30, 2010
I would pick Keshi on experience. SiaSia hasn't done much other than two Silver medals with overage players but Keshi 'possibly' scouted for and got players that has given Togo a big reputation in Africa.

He was a defender and his change in tactics ( Mali V Angola) was pitch. Brought on a quick winger(Yatabarre) and let him play off the Angolan CBs. This confused them and in their bid to keep up his speed opened them up and Keita flogged passes that rescued that game.

He is still prone to some mistakes like what he did in the 2nd game as Mali coach but i think his experience in coaching two full national teams puts him ahead of Siasia.

Both coaches are disciples of Arsenal-like footie and whoever NFF picks would not do badly. A 5-year contract should be handed out and if that coach doesn't win AFCON 2015, he should be sacked!

  These names you just named weren't stabbing/shooting people at 16, they could have gone worse within months/few years, unlike these ones who have started using guns/knife at this age of their life, what is likely to become of them if they get to Anini and the names you listed's age range?

Btw: except a child without parents, it's very rare to find a child of 15/16 outside in Nigeria around 11pm, not because it's not safe for them, but because their parents can't go to bed without making sure the kids are all inside.

I see. You must be living in another Nigeria because Homeless children exist in Nigeria. Most of them are called Area boys and Almajiris. They sleep under bridges and in buses in the motor parks and yes, they stab people and fight. Osisikankwu didn't learn how to shoot a gun last year as did Soboma George who had a reputation in his secondary school days

You really need to visit public secondary schools in whatever town you live in and ask students to give you gist. Stop living in a bubble.Nigerian youths are violent and many of these cases go unreported. I bet you probably never heard about the murder in FGC PH in the 90s where a fellow student drove a screwdriver into a rival's ear.

Nigerians have only perceived morals and our press DO NOT report a lot of stories due to many reasons which I would not list BUT I would ask you to do yourself a favour and get informed. Visit Motor parks at 5.30am and see youths waking up. Don't assume they came from a house, stop and ask them where they slept and it would surprise you. These children have homes and sometimes do not return because they have nothing to eat at home.

Besides, many of the gangs of London kids are the poorest in the country and poverty riddled areas are usually strewn with violence (Nigeria is no different neither is the US) which is probably why you have no idea how depraved the country you live in actually is.

I guess Osisikankwu, Shina Rambo and all Vikings, Eiye, Maf men, Bucket boys, were raised in London. This is really sad!

Apparently in some eyes, Nigeria is an epitome of morality when compared to the UK. Since gang crimes, murders, drug addiction and alcoholism has a higher occurrence rate in the UK than in Nigeria where stories about ritual murders, assassinations, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape are made up by the western press to make Nigeria look bad!

I WILL never raise my children in Nigeria where we can live behind high walls even though the crime rate is very low and the police are one step ahead of the criminals

Dreams!

I wonder when Nigerians would leave this mentality. So this rabid Ijaw group want to replace the Hausa-Fulani as oppressors in their thoughts. It is a shame that rather than think about progressive methods of building our communities and country at large, people are seeking how they will dominate others to their own detriment.

The 'North' have dominated for almost 50 years to their own detriment as only the elite are rich and the crushing poverty of the ordinary folk stinks to high heavens. That said, this article could very well just be mischief to upset ethnic champions with an unashamed feeling of superiority based upon one's parent's place of birth.

- Mend release a threat for an attack 4days before the attack.
- Ukah was arrested in SA few days before the attack as their leader, based on the warning issued by Mend.

After the Attack.
- Mend issued a message claiming responsibility for the attack.
- President exonerating Mend from the attack yet still holding Ukah responsible, charged to court for an arrestmade based on the Mend prior notice of an attack which finally took place.
- President and co claiming Ukah is an Ex mend member, as such his statements can not be taken serious.
- The same president invited Mend ex-Mend member who exonerated Mend from the attack after a coffee.
- The statement of the Ex-mend member invited for a coffee by the president is believed to be truth, but the statement release by another EX member of Mend is lies.

Please can someone explain to me all these like am a 4 year old boy, maybe i would understand it better.

IBB is no saint but if this is how he also killed Delegiwa, MKO, and others am really beginning to doubt all the allegation.

GEJ should jst do us one favour and shut up his mouth. The power does not lie again with IBB that we will say he is gonna obstruct the justices. The power is in his hand now. He should conduct a proper investigation and bring to book who ever is responsible for the attack. Not going up and down talking rubbish as if it is a primary school fight we are in. I hate Men who have in their possession both yam and knife but still whine of hunger.

Politics / Re: Niger Deltans: This Is Your Chance! by ow11(m): 6:49pm On Oct 06, 2010
This 'President is from my village' mentality is what is finishing us in this country. We are attacking Ciroma and Babangida because they cry zoning yet we are somehow playing that same game on this thread.

GEJ is a member of PDP. The party that has unleashed evil in this country (Odili, Alao-Akala,Daniel, Ohakim etc) and even though he is from the SS, his competence should be our main aim.

I can't vote for a man because he is from my village! I will only vote a man that can produce a blue print to change the lives of the ordinary Nigerian for good. GEJ in PDP surrounded by the hawks there cannot do so. Danjuma is his chief advisor and his atrocities are well documented!

I would rather vote for Ribadu in this election than GEJ or any other PDP candidate. Although I would rather have him win the PDP ticket rather than IBB or Atiku (Given that they may rig the elections again).

Ovamboland:

Even if we suddenly have correct leadership from this moment onward and they start fixing our educational system and building infratructure we need at least the next 40 years of consistent effort to be anywhere near being a world power.

For example converting the railways to standard guage and building the East-West line, Niger-Delta railline etc will take at least 8 years, building a support industry for the rail system needs another 15 years. Mind you no world power lacks these things, no be for mouth.

Building a gas power plant needs at least 3 years for a 500MW capacity costing roughly $500million, a coal fired plant needs 5 years to complete. Our installed capacity is hardly more than 6,000MW while a world power like China has 622,000MW USA has 1,075,174MW. Is it possible to build anythging close to these in 10 years? angry
Is there any example of any country that prayed and power plants appeared in a day or week of fasting?

We need to wake up from the religious sedation wear our work boots and gloves and get dirty fixing our country.

Practical answers to proclamations. The OP will probably tell you how God made the sun stand still and split the red sea. Hence, Power plants and Rail lines will appear overnight!

This same Bishop proclaimed in Shiloh 2002 that 'Nigeria will be to Africa what the US is the world in 10 years'. . .direct quote! Whether he meant in terms of invading other African countries or having the largest African market is another story. I would assume he meant in terms of being an industrialised nation BUT at least this proclamation is not vague and cannot be bent. In 10 years time, we can judge this his gist but personally I don't believe him and think it is impossible!

You are sounding like you know what is going on BUT you can't tell the young men Late Soboma George paid school fees for and the women he paid for shops for that he is greedy. Many ex-MEND militants have sympathisers in their neighbourhood because they did provide for their immediate communities. Your argument should be they didn't do enough.

@ndu_chuks

Whilst we are using heat seeking missiles to smoke out MEND, we also need same to smoke out Boko Haram and proper investigation into the various religious riots in the north and punish the murderers.

All Nigerians have a lot in common and can live in harmony if we unpack our things and build this nation together. We have the resources (Human and Natural) to build a viable country where muslims in the north can practice Islam and shari'a without causing any harm to southerners and southerners in return respecting the sensitivities of Islam to work well with them.

Back to the issue at hand, I am quite happy that people have realised that ex-generals are NOT the solution to our problem. Whoever wins in 2011 should be wholly supported to drag us out of this mess. We cannot continue to blame our problems on ethnicity. Individuals should be held responsible for their actions and breaking up is not a solution either.

MEND leaders should be arrested for this act and any accomplice should be invited for questioning.

Many MEND commanders were loyal to Odili in the mid-noughties and this blast somehow reduces GEJ's popularity. . .

MEND really gave itself a self-inflicted wound with this one. I suspect Jomo Gbomo or Cynthia Whyte will come forward and deny this in the coming days angry

An RPG into the executive box at eagle square would have been a different story. Instead the cowards chose to kill and maim ordinary Nigerians.

@ow11. Can sleeping separately be a
solution for married couples who
have different sleep schedules,
illnesses or snoring partners? Dont you think that the way you sleep at times could determine how loud you'll be while sleeping?

Yes, sleeping separately is a very easy solution to some personal problems like ill-health for example. You can't tell me partners sleep in each other's arms for 8hrs every night?

Snoring is NOT caused by only Head or Neck positions during sleep. Anything from Sleep apnoea to oversized neck to even perennial catarrh can cause a person to snore. The causes of snoring are well documented on the internet and you can read up to update your knowledge. I find it rather strange when people consider snoring a habit rather than a health condition.

Sleeping is as important as eating for a human being and jeopardising one's health because of the need to satisfy 20th century ideas of a happy matrimony is I dare say silly. Couples only began to sleep in the same beds when the industrial age began and cities began to develop. In Pre-colonial Nigeria, women had their own huts in their husband's compound.

Even with this so called bond formed when you share a bed, divorce rates are at the highest since mankind learnt to tame fire. Sharing a bed was borne out of economics rather than the need to be intimate and has since become the norm and as such people often mistake separate rooms as a sign of absence of intimacy. This is a rather simplistic approach I have to admit.

@InesQor

I do not agree with your postulation that continental drift began after the flood. Continental drift is the reasons we have mountains and valleys and Gen 7:19 says the waters covered the mountains except you believe the drifting began as soon as the flood waters began to rise. undecided Continental drifts are also the cause of formations major basins across the globe and the oldest rocks are not of the same age in passive margins or foreland basins across the world.

Local floods that happen today do not wipe out civilisations like Noah's flood did and I tend to want to agree with most of nuclearboy's stance on the matter. I believe the flood happened as it is described but is largely restricted to the known world in ~3500BC.

God's covenant of the rainbow says 'Never again shall I cause floods to destroy all flesh, ' This is relative because everyone in the known world of Mesopotamia died in ~3500BC and floods have never hit that region in any magnitude like what we find in SE Asia or parts of Africa and Central America.

@chinedumo

Local floods occurring today do not destroy all living things within their vicinity and as such cannot be equated to the flood that Noah survived from.
