Why should one work as a teacher?

Kai you are very ignorant. Even the guy in question is just like every other skill-less, unproductive and unenlightened graduates Nigerian universities produce every year. The problem is not even teaching. I earn more than half a million naira as basic salary and twice my salary on my monthly lessons. Do the math, e go shock you. If you don't have the right skills and technical know-how you can't thrive in any industry. Same applies to teaching. Let him go and acquire how to teach Cambridge subjects and build his experience in a Cambridge school. Then the sky is just the beginning. No be everybody must learn tech, Teaching pays if you know the way.

Most of those schools are base in island.

Yes in Lagos most are on the Island. However, Cambridge schools are becoming common on the mainland Lagos too...look around Ikeja, Maryland, Festac/Satellite town, Surulere etc. Remember one important factor that precipitates Cambridge Schools, is the cost of the exams. Hence, the main reason why you find the notable ones in a highbrow area. You can't expect a school with a tuition of 9million naira a session to be situated in Ajangbadi....Another thing, take a que away from Lagos, Cambridge schools are also scattered around big cities in Nigeria. Port, Abuja etc. The idea is to go where the money is because the money will never come to you unless you take these giant steps. I remembered when I left youth service, having known that I was heading into teaching, I had to leave my family house on the mainland and went sqautting with my married sister on the island because of the prospect of finding a better paying teaching job. Today, I bless God for that singular decision.

Education / The Secret Of Success In The Teaching Industry. by perezski(m): 7:14pm On Jul 10
As we herald a new teaching transfer window, I will like to sensitise some upcoming teaching professionals in the house. Truely information is all the paraphernalia you need to beat Sapa and propell your teaching career into the right trajectory. I repeat, this is to those amongst us who still don't know how massively lucrative the teaching job could be. Oya let's go there.....
1. If you are a starter in the industry(fresh grad, less then 2yrs in the field etc), please find any school within your proximity or targeted location/city/state where they run the Cambridge Exams/curriculum e.g CAIE, Pearson Edexcel etc please note that emphasis are on the exams. These schools, at your starter level, must not be a registered Cambridge School(where Cambridge exams are written), Non-registered Cambridge schools still write Cambridge exams via British Councils or partner with other registered schools. The nitty-gritty here for you as a teacher is to build that subject-curriculum experience that will pave way for greater opportunities ahead.
2. If you find yourself in a hybrid school, Our infamous British or Cambridge/Nigerian Curricular schools, please place your priorities on mastering the Cambridge Subjects within your professional purview.
3. Go for CPDs and PDQs but these should be secondary as compared to finding a school that runs the exams because no amount of money you pay for these qualifications will best equip you with the mastery of subjects than the on going experience you gather from teaching these Cambridge subjects.
4. If you are in the Humanities(cus I am) please drop your Nigerian subject-knowledge mentality behind. In fact discard it completely, I mean subjects like commerce, Government, Social Studies,CRK, Civic Education they will never earn you money. Replace your hold of these subjects with Business Studies, History, Global perspectives,Sociology, Religious studies and to mention a few other Cambridge subjects. Remember these are the subjects in Humanities, Champions-league schools will demand for when you have equipped yourself with a couple of years of experience in these facet.
5. Do not despise your humble beginning, especially when you are learning how to teach these subjects. Most of these small schools that run these Cambridge exams might offer you peanut at these stage but look after the bigger picture, you are building an immense intellectual capital and profile for yourself. Give it 3-4 years after u have produced 2 to 3 IGCSE sets then your confidence level for those Champs league schools will be astronomical. I remember recently a close colleague refusing a 650k basic salary offer from one of the Champs League schools in Lagos after 3weeks he received another offer of 750k offer which he finally considered. Trust me guys, we all started our journey similarly. No Nigerian University or college of Education will teach you how to become a successful Cambridge teacher.
6. My last bullet.....There is no Nigerian-EXAM school that can pay you up to 500k basic salary as a subject teacher. Compare the school fees and cost of writing exams between Nigerian-exam schools and Cambridge-exams schools in Nigeria. The answer is glaring and even visible to the blind. Use your head young shall grow and remember time and tides wait for no man. We are now in the era where informed teachers are making it big-time, challenging the pathetic stereotypes that our rewards are in heaven. Wake up and join the bandwagon.

NB: Champions League schools are fully inclined Cambridge Schools in Nigeria where tuition for a session begins from 9million naira and above. Schools like BIS Lagos, Daywaterman, Charterhouse Lagos, Regent, Riverbank, Grange etc.

Well this OP is ill-informed or not informed at all. If only you knew how financially rewarding teaching job is . Most of you guys are so primitive with your mentality towards teaching. Hence end up teaching in a backward private school that runs Nigerian curriculum, despite your Bsc or BEd and whatever qualifications you have you don't take a simple approach towards empowering yourself with teaching skills and curriculum that pays Nigerian teachers satisfactorily. Op do you know how much Cambridge Schools in 9ja pay their staff? If I say Cambridge school not all those quasi- British/Nigerian hybrid schools or the wannabes. I mean schools like Regents, CIS, BIS and loads of others spread across Lagos,Porthacourt and Abuja. These schools only need your experience in any of the Cambridge IGCSE/Edexcel subjects and gbam, you could be earning as high as 500k monthly as your net. Instead of you bastardising teaching, go and repackage your self and your thinking process. With these range of salary some guys in the Maths and Science department even run Homelessons that pay them close to 400k aside from their salary. And please don't tell me these schools are not for every teacher. If you equip your self with the right skills and knowledge, these kind of jobs are for you overtime and you don't even need to japa if you know what you are doing. Over!

Buhari's regime was saturated with northerners in top govt positions. He never cared nor the northern lots complained about the marginalisation within the space of appointments. But this is why Yorubas are differently unique. Tinubu will have all n sundry inclusive in different capacities in his government but you can't ignore the fact that 60% of his core loyalists are his kinsmen, which will ensure more Yoruba appointees than other tribes. Hence, this can never still be compared to hoaw heavily sectional Buhari's dispensation was.

1) I don’t need the full gist

2) Any staff of mine that talks to a customer like this will be summarily terminated.

This CEO needs to go to:

1) Anger management classes and

2) Customer service boot camp.

If you have an irate customer, you don’t blow like an untrained chimpanzee, you treat it as per modern customer service protocol and then you terminate the relationship.

I’ve seen full fledged agberos with better control and disposition.

My opinion.
on this position you are wrong. You think humans are machines with no emotions. There are scenarios where the most educated and refined professionals with all your purportedly well behaved corporate training fiddlesticks will lose it, not because he/she is insane or lacks etiquette as you remarked but because there is always a degree of work related stress or pressure everyman(which includes the most corporate professional with all manner of etiquette) would condone before he/she unleashes the other human side which is sacrosanct to everyone. I have seen bosses' boss, managers, proprietors, most timid employees, coaches, footballers lose it completely and damned the consequences in order to set things straight not because they are vulgar, erratic or uncultured as you would interpret their actions. The problem with people like you is you think everyone should absorb verbal abuses, customer nuisances and bullies just to save face(corporate or business wise), which is not bad but I repeat to a certain degree or limit. Please don't be slave to work learn when to call shit.....Quit. Over!

That's the mistake some if you make when associating and tagging Iranians as Arabs. Please always get your facts right. Iranians are not Arabs they are Persians. And also quite different from other Arab nations by Islamic orientation or denomination. They are Shi'ite and most Arab nations are Sunni Muslims. In fact they are not even a member of the Arab league and even hated by the Saudi Regime just like how Kaduna government and your president have scores to settle with the Shi'ite Muslim in Nigeria. Over!

Striking Israel will be the most stupid thing Iran will ever do now.
Iran should form alliance with other Arabs countries including those in Africa before embarking on any thing

@ OP tell me what exactly is wrong with teaching. Only if you know how much we(IGCSE certified teachers) earn in the Metropolis of Abj and also some parts of Lagos, you will appreciate what you have and begin to develop your skills, experience and certifications in the teaching industry. Try find a Cambridge certified school where they write IGCSE and major in the British curriculum and ditch all these archaic and dated private schools with WAEC n NECO orientations. Since u said u are academically sound i want to believe u can teach one or 2 IGCSE subjects with a sound knowledge of these subjects overtime. With these done, big Cambridge schools will definitely require your services with nothing less than 200k or 250k as a starter and with some other juicy packages under your terms of condition of work subject to your negotiating skills. As i write this to you most certified Cambridge schools pay nothing less than 300-400k monthly to someone with mininum of 5yrs teaching experience especially in Abuja(still subject to your negotiating skills). Teaching has swiftly gone beyond the traditonal 9ja black board or white board learning styles to the use of wholistic digital learning tools and other 21st century learning techniques that are fun and creative. All these are easily learnt and acquired if u find ursef in certified cambridge schools. With patience and perseverance you will get there. Do not consume yoursef with the defeatistic mindset that its impossible to get to these schools without connections and pls always tink outside the box. If you are a 2.1 degree holder or 2.2 teaching and earning less than 100k after 4-5 years in the same profession, you definitely have a problem. Today, teaching jobs have lots of opportunities where if you know you know.....when u tap into it u thank me later....

Quite pathetic the nature of our Private schools but not in all cases. You see most guys delving into private school teaching jobs are so poorly informed, enlightened and bedeviled by the typical Nigerian youth mindset of not thinking out of the box. Its all about desperation for most, hence they get subjected to slave-drivery. You see teaching job in Nigeria has transmogrified into another level, only if you are equiped with the right knowledge, skills and aptitude before you can be proud of private teaching profession. Well, what am i saying, i am a certified Cambridge History and Sociology teacher, who teaches in one of the eyebrow schools in Abuja. Guys some Cambridge private schools in Nigeria have transformed into a whole new level. These are schools adhering to international standard of treatments towards workers. These are schools that pay from 250k upward depending on your negotiation skills. Now, how do you get employed into schools like these? Your Bsc, is just a formality. Find a way into a private school that runs British IGCSE curriculum, begin to acquire certifications on your preferred subjects(PDQ) and getting Cambridge certified on your subject. Build ur experience on this path and the rest na opportunities beyond opportunities...... I teach in a school where tuition for a term is 1.5m. I didnt start here, guys i built myself into this status. You can too especially if u love teaching. I am proudly a certified Cambridge teacher and my next target is teaching in Bahrain. No time!

NYSC / Re: Getting A Job After Nysc: How Long Is Too Long? by perezski(m): 6:05pm On Apr 12, 2018
Well everything depends on having a plan right before you graduated. Personally, i have always loved teaching or lecturing, as in, my level of enthusiasm for teaching is quite astronomical. In fact when i was in school, during my break(s), i made sustainable cash by teaching Govt, English and even Accounting(but my strength was GOVT) at tutorial centres for WASSCE and UTME respectively. As soon as i left service i had already set a salary scale in my mind for my self, as a starter in the teaching industry. Hence, i sought for my teaching job in a perceived highbrow area in Lagos, precisely, Ajah. N as a reminder i emerged with a 2.1 in Sociology Uni of Ilorin(Mad department). I had a strategy then(2014), i wrote like 5 application letters, officially enveloped with my attached CV(This strategy is now obsolete, if u follow my story). I had it in mind to visit 5 big schools around Ajah axis n drop my stuff. My confidence level was at its climax or apogee. Consequently, the first school i stumbled across(After doing some feasibility study by asking old residents around Ajah about the highest standard schools in Ajah in terms of salary), i enquired if there was a vacancy for my subject. Luckily, there was. I remembered telling the security that the job was mine. Dude smiled at me like see this Otondo"u sabi how many people don apply for this job". Fast forward, met the Principal n he told me to drop my CV n come back in subsequently 2 hours from then. I insisted i want my interview then n now.(this was a strategy to instill confidence for the job n show my tech-know how of the job). Immediately a micro-teaching was staged for me(deep down i knew the job was mine). I nailed the interview and the Director of studies later came to discuss salary with me. We finalised at 55k for a start(My target was even 50). I knew i needed to build an experience in a big school. So, i started humbly but with an ambitious mind. Fast forward to 2018. Since my first school, i have acquired Skills, training and certifications and today i am a certified Cambridge IGCSE History and Sociology Teacher. I have taught in two schools in Lekki. But my breakthrough came when i was referred to one of the biggest schools in Abuja( Now teaching has gone Digital with massive opportunities and great remuneration even bigger dan most multi-national coys in Lagos). I now go for international training in the UK and to mention a few.......So guys, especially young graduates who are intrinsically motivated to teaching, PM me i give you tips on how to go about it and i hope my epistle helps some graduates or unemployed youth out there. It's all about the mindset. Dont give up!

Pls guys my EOD 2003, 4plugs was scanned with the following results P2649,P0331,p0341. The problems i had with the car started when it overheated and i had to change the top gasket according to my mech. Now i observed after changing, my car doesnt fire well, whenever i start the car, it shoots heavily, or when i am driving and trying to accelerate further, it sometimes shoot and the engine will stop in motion while the ignition is on. So it was scanned and my electrical guy said he needed to change some of the injector sensors, which he did and the car, if switched on while on park and accelerated, it now raises beyond 3 at the accelerated point on the dash board. Now the thing is my car still jerks on motion and the electrical guys said i should change the gear box sensor. Guys, gurus pls i need professional help or a recommended Honda service centre in Abuja.
