No, we don't need a National conference to build roads and roads are been built though not enough and the reason government at all levels usually give is that there's not enough funds to build as much roads and infrastructure as they would like. That's why a lot of states and local governments are calling for more funds to their respective constituencies and popular wisdom have also called for the decentralization of power which will mean that states and local governments will not rely on Abuja for their daily bread. Instead, they will seeks ways to generate funds internally using their God given resources for their citizens instead of going to Abuja to get their own share of the national cake. Decentralization if one of the things that will be discussed at the National conference.

I've been reading "WHY NATIONS FAIL: THE ORIGINS OF POWER, PROSPERITY AND POVERTY" by Daron Acemoglu & James A. Robinson. They surmise that in most countries the small elite group which controls political power, uses it to control the economy to benefit themselves. Most countries that have developed did so by evolving inclusive institutions and policies that make prosperity possible for all citizens. So, citizens have control over the elite that control the economy.

England changed when parliament whittled down the power of the monarchy and created policies to empower citizens to prosper. The industrial revolution followed through innovation by citizens. Dubai which runs a monarchy has transformed because the elite have a conscience.

Nigeria's government is taking steps towards organising a national conference now. This gives cause for cheer, but there are questions on my mind.

1. Do we need a national conference to build good roads, schools and hospitals etc?

2. Sadly I have seen utter wretchedness in the living conditions of Nigerians in recent times.

3. Will the Nigerian elite class have enough conscience to create a Nigeria where all citizens can equally prosper ? It doesn't matter whether they are military or civilian, or belong to different political parties.

4. Will this elite class which has frustrated previous conferences and annulled elections execute our decisions this time?

5. Does the Nigerian populace have the enlightenment and guts to whip the political class into line when the elections come?

6. Will the outcomes of this conference, if any, ever become our reality?

7. Is there a way for citizens to shift the balance of power so they have control over the politicians?

8. Or should we encourage the conference to hold and pray that God should hijack the direction somehow?

9. Do all constituent parts of Nigeria really want development to happen?

An operational assets is one that is required for the day to day activties of a business which add values to achieving desired daily output. Infact, it is one the business cannot do without to function. For example is a taxi driver needs a car as an operational asset. He doesnt go out to buy a tractor parked on a farm and tell his accountant that he purchased it as an operational asset for his taxi transport business.
Madam Oduah's explanation for N255 million waste doesnt hold any ground. I believe Nigeria's public finance and accounting lack creditability. Or else, how can one explain the volume n magnitude of corruption in the public sector.

Those Yaba guys are criminals and theives. Do not let them harrass you. They have no right to arrest you even if you are on the wrong side of the law. It has gotten to a stage where they now know my face and that of my boss at work because we always take them to task. I have rescued a driver from their hands last 3 weeks and they had to leave the driver alone.

The issue here is that a lot of us do not read our constitution and do not know our rights. Always have a copy of the traffic rules in you car and throw it at there face any time they want to harass you.

Don't ever answer them or hand over your car keys. They are crooks who have been set up by the local govt chairman to raise illegal money. If you notice, their mode of dressing, visage and carriage are no different from that of touts and criminals.

Lastly, as a driver in Lagos, it might be wise to cultivate a lawyer as a friend. If you have money, install cameras in your car, you never know when it will come in handy.
