Health / Heart Attack, Stomach Ulcer +4 Reasons You Should Take Acidity Seriously! by phila123(m): 1:34pm On Jul 11, 2016
If  you are reaching out for an over-the-counter drug to treat your acidity, we aren’t telling you to stop right away. At times, too much GERD, burping and acidity pain (that happens in the upper part of your abdomen) might need immediate relief. And so, antacids become your immediate resort. But remember they are the best option for you when acidity is a one-time affair. If acidity is something that bothers you on a weekly or daily basis, it should make you worried to make an appointment with your doctor. ‘Remember antacids will only treat the problem symptomatically, it will not treat the underlying condition that triggers acidity. So it is important to get it checked with your doctor as acidity at times could also be a symptom of something more serious,’ says Dr Jay Kotecha consultant gastroenterologist, SVR Hospital, Mumbai. Here are some problems that could be the reason behind your acidity:
1. Cardiac problems: Now this is not an unknown cause. GERD and coronary heart disease or CHD have been linked for long now. People suffering from CHD are twice as likely to suffer from GERD compared to people devoid of any heart condition. This is more so as the drugs given to treat heart conditions can in one way trigger acidity and lead to reflux [1]. While this is one theory, remember acidity alone could make you prone to heart problems. ‘Repeated acidity could also be a sign that you might be suffering from cardiac problems which need treatment to control bloating, pain and GERD that you suffer from often due to the same,’ says Dr Kotecha.
2. Minor heart attack: There are times when one confuses a minor heart attack with acidity, and this is common occurrence these days. ‘A minor heart attack can at times present like a severe acidity and this could be fatal as one might not reach out for help in the right direction,’ says Dr Kotecha. In such a case it is important to know the difference between heart attack and acidity. If the pain from your abdomen also radiates to your left arm and jaws, probably an antacid won’t be able to help you. Also, if the pain gets you all of a sudden like early in the morning or sometime during the day when you didn’t indulge in a heavy or spicy meal, it could be a sign of heart attack.
3. Gall bladder stones: Pain due to acid reflux and that due to gallbladder stones are totally different. But most of the time the two are confused. Pain due to gall stones happens in the upper right quadrant of the stomach and at times radiates to the back or the sides. ‘Because acidity pains are similar to this that happens in the upper part of the abdomen, one might confuse the pain due to gallstones with acidity,’ says Dr Kotecha.
5. Stomach ulcers: These are caused due to a bacterial infection usually Helicobacter pylori or H. Pylori in the gut which erodes the inner lining of the stomach [2]. However, these are treatable when the symptoms are picked up soon, saving one from the pains and complications. However, one sign of stomach ulcers is acidity or pain in the upper abdomen followed by bloating, heartburn and uneasiness after having a full course meal. In fact, treatment of stomach ulcers is very necessary as the bacteria can predispose one to gastric cancer.
Here is what untreated acidity can do to you:
4. Unhealthy pancreas: ‘Most of the times it is thought that alcohol is the prime culprit that leads to deteriorating pancreas health. However, untreated acidity can also lead to the same due to inflammation and erosion of the inner lining,’ informs Dr Kotecha. When this happens, acidity might become a regular occurrence. And if you keep treating just the symptom by popping antacids, you ignore the health of a major organ – pancreas. It might be too late before you realise the damage.
6. Problems with the oesophagus: Untreated acidity can erode the oesophagus as the gastric acid strikes it often and the lining is acid-permeable. Also, there are studies that suggest that continuous usage of acid-suppressing medicines can make one prone to oesophagus cancer in the long run [3]. So instead of popping acidity pills it is better to pay a visit to a doctor to get your condition checked.
When to seek help to treat acidity?
Here are few signs that say your acidity isn’t just treatable with antacids, and you need to take a doctor’s appointment:
When it becomes a weekly or a daily affair
When you have pain after every meal
When the pain increases while you try to rest
When you have a bitter taste in your mouth and sore throat, yes these are a result of constant heartburn
When you experience too much belching and burping and there are growling sounds happening in your stomach

Nairaland / General / 2015 Election Cases: Why We Ignored Card Reader Reports – Supreme Court by phila123(m): 8:41am On Feb 06, 2016
By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

THE Supreme Court, yesterday, explained why it has not accorded any probative value on reports from Card Reader Machines that were deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, during the 2015 general elections. The apex court, yesterday, maintained that though the use of the Electronic Card Reader Machine for accreditation of voters was provided for in the Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the conduct of the 2015 general elections, it said the device was never “intended to supplant, displace or supersede” the Voters’ Register.

It observed that the issue had resulted to various Divisions of the Court of Appeal, giving divergent interpretations on election disputes that were brought before them by appellants. “True, indeed, the Card Reader Machine traces its paternity to the above Guidelines and Regulations. Regrettably, its probative pedestal in the vocabulary of electoral jurisprudence has generated conflicting interpretations from Their Lordships of the different Divisions of the Court of Appeal”, the Supreme Court noted.

•Card reader
A seven-man panel of Justices of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, made the position of the court on the matter known, while adducing reasons why the election of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State was upheld. According to Justice Chima Centus Nweze who delivered the lead judgment, “With the intervention of this court, in its recent decision in Shinkafi v Yari (supra), it is hoped that practitioners and all other courts will begin to appreciate the position of the said Card Reader Machine, and the Reports generated therefrom, in election litigation.

“Prior to the authorisation of its use by the Guidelines and Manual (supra), the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), in sections 49 (1) and (2), had ordained an analogue procedure for the accreditation process. As a corollary to the procedure outline above, section 53(2) of the said Act (that is, the Electoral Act) enshrined the consequences for the breach, negation or violation of the sanctity of the actual poll sequel to the consummation of the accreditation procedure in section 49 (supra).

“With the advantage of hindsight, INEC, pursuant to its powers under the said Electoral Act, authorised the deployment of the said Card Readers. “Even with the introduction of the said device, that is the Card Reader Machine, the National Assembly, in its wisdom, did not deem it necessary to bowdlerise the said analogue procedure in section 49 from the Act so that the Card Reader procedure would be the sole determinant of a valid accreditation process.

“Contrariwise,   from the Corrigendum No 2, made on March 28, 2015, amending paragraph 13(b) of the Approved Guidelines, it stands to reason that the Card Reader was meant to supplement the Voter’ Register and was never designed or intended to supplant, displace or supersede it.

“Indeed, since the Guidelines and Manual, which authorised the use and deployment of the electronic Card Reader Machine, were made in exercise of the powers conferred by the Electoral Act, the said Card Reader cannot, logically, depose or dethrone the Voters’ Register whose judicial roots are, firmly, embedded or entrenched in the selfsame Electoral Act from which it )the Voters’ Register). Directly, derives its sustenance and currency.

“Thus, any attempt to invest it (the Card Reader Machine procedure) with such overreaching pre-eminence or superiority over the Voters’ Register is like converting an auxiliary procedure- into the dominant procedure- of proof, that is, proof of accreditation.

“This is a logical impossibility. Indeed, only recently, this court in Shinkafi vs Yari, confirmed the position that the Card Reader Machine has not supplanted the statement of results in appropriate forms; hence, the appellant still had the obligation to prove petition relating to accreditation of voters and over-voting as enunciated in several decisions of this court”, Justice Nweze added.

More so, using the Ebonyi state gubernatorial dispute as an instance, the apex court panel noted that the Head of Unit, ICT Data Management at INEC headquarters, who testified as the PW-8 before the tribunal, explained that the Card Reader performed two roles, namely, the verification of the Permanent Voters Card, PVC, and the authentication of fingerprint. It observed that the witness, who generated a Card Reader Machines Report for Ebonyi State Governorship Election, had admitted that it was not a complete report covering all the details of Polling Units in the state as some Polling Units were not uploaded and thus not included in the report.

The witness said the report she tendered before the tribunal represented data that were successfully uploaded before the chairman of INEC gave an instruction for the server to be shut down. According to the Supreme Court, “Her trenchant responses, clearly, demonstrate that the Card Reader Machine Reports were neither inviolable nor sacrosanct as a host of intervening mischievous human variables could impinge on their reliability.

“Against the background of the testimonies of PW8, it is, actually, surprising, that learned counsel to the appellant chose not to utilise the Voter’ Register, to show the entire gamut of the voters, but rather built his case on what, in the unanswerable words of the lower court was an exhibit that was not accurate, sufficient and comprehensive enough to be relied upon in proof of the allegation of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended.

“That is to say that the appellant (as Petitioner) failed to weave his case on the Voters ‘Registers and a fortiori did not produce such registers because if he had produced them, their contents would have been unfavourable to the allegations he made in the petition and hence his decision to withhold them.

“Thus, the appellant laboured in vain in the spirited attempt he made before this court to have the findings of the lower court vacated. He was, indeed, attempting the impossible given the anaemic evidence he adduced. In my view, the lower court, rightly, affirmed the findings of the trial tribunal in this regard”. Besides, the apex court held that the appellant, Edward Nkwegu Okereke, who was the candidate of the Labour Party during the April 11, 2015, governorship election in Ebonyi state, could not lay credible evidence to support his case against governor Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The court said the case of the petitioner failed owing to “irreparable damage of the testimony of witnesses” that testified for him at the lower tribunal, who it said were “thoroughly discredited in cross-examination”. It will be recalled that though the Supreme Court dismissed Okereke’s appeal on January 27, it however reserved its reasons for doing so till yesterday.

Aside the CJN, other members of the apex court panel that also agreed with the lead judgment were Justices Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, Kumai Bayang Aka’ahs, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, John Inyang Okoro and Amiru Sanusi.

Health / 5 Common Reasons Of Female Infertlity by phila123(m): 8:24am On Jan 29, 2016
You wouldn’t know if you can make babies or not until you try for one. This is one reason you learn about your fertility very late in life as most pregnancies these days are planned after 30 years of age. ‘If you are over 35 and have been trying for a baby for more than a year without any results, it is best to contact a fertility expert,’ says Dr Shobha Gupta, Medical Director and IVF Specialist from Mother’s Lap IVF Centre, Delhi.
Here are few signs that could indicate that there can be problems in conception:‎

1. Abnormal periods
Abnormal or irregular periods is one sign that can point towards a woman’s infertility. A menstrual cycle that is too long (35 days or more) or too short (21 days or less) could indicate problems with ovulation. Sometimes a healthy diet, exercise and medication can regularise your periods and help you conceive.
2. Medical conditions
There are various medical conditions likeendometriosis, PCOS and tubal blockage that can reduce one’s chances of conception drastically. With a condition like endometriosis, where the endometrial walls start to grow outside the uterus rather than inside, it leads to painful menstruation. The cells grow, thicken and break down during every menstrual cycle. Since these disposed tissues have nowhere to go, over a period they get accumulated and form cysts that could obstruct normal function of the ovaries, leading to scarring and adhesions. In PCOS, small fluid-filled cysts are present in the ovaries that can lead to hormonal imbalances and lead to anovulation. In fact, PCOS is a major cause of infertility for urban Indian women. Tubal blockage or fallopian tube obstruction is again a prime cause of female infertility. Blocked fallopian tubes are unable to deliver the sperm and ova to the uterus for implantation and so conception becomes difficult. While most of these conditions can be rectified with help of a doctor, the sooner you meet a fertility expert, the better. Here are 10 everyday things that can make you infertile, beware.
3. Pelvic inflammatory diseases
These are infections caused due to sexually transmitted diseases that affect the female reproductive organs and affect conception. It can lead to irreversible damages to the ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes and other female reproductive organs. It is better to get tested if you had unprotected sex or experience any unusual symptoms like painful urination, pain during sex, itching and burning sensation.
4. Thyroid dysfunctions
According to Indian Thyroid Society,  about 70% of women with PMS have thyroid dysfunction and possibly results in infertility. Since the thyroid hormones regulate cellular functions, abnormal thyroid function affects ovulation and fertility as well. So get your thyroid checked while you are planning a baby. Here are five ways in which thyroid functions can affect your pregnancy.
5. Age
Women are born with a specific number of eggs, which declines with age – one reason doctors urge women to plan pregnancy early on. After a certain age, it becomes difficult for one to plan pregnancy naturally and might require the help of a fertility expert to get pregnant.

Romance / Women Are The Most Wonderful Creature by phila123(m): 4:40pm On Dec 02, 2015
Women are the most wonderful creature I have seen on Earth, but am yet to understand why some men are busy finding faults upon faults on them!!! lets look at them this way and tell me if am lying.
.
(1) Women are the only creature that can change their original surname just for the sake of love.
(2) They are most easiest
creature to convince.
(3)They are the only creature that loves from the bottom of their hearts.
(4) They are the creature that can prefer to go to bed with an empty stomach, just to make sure that their children feeds well.
(5) They are the only creature on Earth that cries very easily, just to expose their inward disposition.
(6) They are always awake even at the dead of the night just to make sure that their children are protected.
(7) They can even sell out their cloths just to buy food for their children, and also see them smiling.
(cool They are always ready to sacrifice their lives just to save the lives of their children.
(9) They are always in the kitchen inhaling the smoke without complaining, just to prepare something for their children and husband to eat.
(10) They are the only creature that can abandon their biological family and start up a new home with a stranger.
(11) Even when they are battling with the pains of pregnancy, yet, they are busy looking after their husbands and children. e.t.c . If you love your mother and you appreciate what she did and is still doing for you just take one minute of your time to type "I LOVE MY MUM"

Religion / Pope Asks Church To Move Forward As Gay Issue Overshadows Synod by phila123(m): 12:32pm On Oct 05, 2015
Pope Francis said Monday that the Church was “not a museum” but a place for progress, as members of a key synod on the family rolled up their sleeves for the first day of what promises to be a spicy debate.
Francis urged a spirit of ‘solidarity, courage and humility’ as the Catholic Church’s conservative and liberal wings began tackling hot button topics from communion for remarried divorcees to acceptance of homosexuality.
The 78-year old reminded red-hatted cardinals and purple-sashed bishops that the Church was “not a museum to keep or preserve. It’s a place where the holy people of God move forward”.
At the opening synod mass on Sunday, the pope had offered encouragement to both camps, defending marriage and heterosexual couples but also insisting the Church must have “its doors open to welcome all those who knock”.
In an apparent boost to those who would have priests take a more merciful and inclusive approach to homosexuals, he said the Church must not “point the finger in judgement” of others, because doing so would “betray its mission”.
But he has also said traditional marriage between heterosexual couples should be defended.
“The emotional intensity of the synod is amped up because of perceptions that the pope’s position is still a work in progress”, Vatican watcher John Allen said.
“Whenever topics such as homosexuality and divorce are on the docket, feelings will run strong,” he wrote for Cruxnow.
“What’s new now is a sense, however exaggerated, that movement might actually be possible. That’s elicited strong passions both from those who see such movement as desirable, and those who view it as alarming.”
– Work cut out for Francis –
The synod is the second and final round of a review of Catholic teaching on the family.
The gathering of 360 participants was overshadowed this weekend by the bombshell announcement by a Polish priest, Krzystof Charasma, an official at the Vatican, that he is a practising homosexual with a partner.
The Vatican’s ire — which saw Charasma fired from his post — contrasted with the news of Francis’s still close relationship with an old Argentinian friend and his gay partner, who were received and hugged by pontiff in the US last month.
“After his example, whatever the outcome of the synod it will be impossible for a priest not to welcome homosexual couples as the pope has… making them feel at home and gradually but progressively innovating Church mentality,” said religious expert Piero Schiavazzi in the Italian edition of the Huffington Post.
He warned, however, that bringing the synod’s opposing sides together on such issues was unlikely in the extreme.
“It would be easier to get Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama to agree… than cardinals Camillo Ruini and Walter Kasper,” he said, referring to a staunch Italian conservative and a German liberal said to be close to Francis.
Homosexuality is just one of a wide range of topics to be discussed at the synod, and some prelates have called for it not be included in the programme, according to Church sources.
Allen said the pope wants other threats to the family to be discussed, from “unemployment to war, environmental calamities, a culture of exaggerated individualism and consumerism, neglect of both children and the elderly”.
“In his mind, the synod would likely be a failure if it doesn’t get around to considering those topics. If recent experience is any guide, the pope may have his work cut out for him,” he said. Source vanguard
Nairaland / General / Mbah Stanley: Biography by phila123(m): 1:58pm On Sep 25, 2015
I'm Mbah ‎Stanley ‎, a Professional Blogger, SEO Consultant and certifiedWeb Designer/Developer.

You probably just landed on this blog and want to learn more about me? Well, the above statement is just about me. Let me just give a brief intro on how it all started.
The term "Blogging" was first expressed and introduced to me by a friend in 2009, but my first thought then was "huh, another time waster" and I forget about it at that moment.

In 2011, I came across the term "blogging" again and was thinking, what's this thing? Ok let me find out. After getting a brief idea about it, I was like WOW, this is cool, let me start with something. Then I started with an entertainment blog, wrote some posts and started designing the blog. After playing around with codes, I became much more interested in designing due to my love for "trial and error practice."I launch a Web Design blog (browsertrickz) in march 2012 and started keeping record of what I learn.
Within this relatively short span of time, I’ve learned a great deal about what works and what doesn’t. I have been fortunate to discover the impact of great design, networking and building community.

When I got the first comment on browsertrickz, the whole story changed. Aversion now turning into passion. I never knew someone can appreciate my work, I never knew someone can ever listen to what I have to say. This is what kept me going and more devoted, and I hope my writing may have help you in one way or the other?
