KDF Kismayu Operations Making West Uneasy, AMISOM Component’s Trying Sabotage

Strategic Intelligence News (by David James)

Recent events in Somalia and the latest reports by AMISOM point to a strategic change in the union of the outfit which has shown lackluster until KDF stormed Southern Somalia.

According to Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete, it is only after KDF went to Somalia in October 2011, that the possibility of peace besides Ugandan forces advanced outside Mogadishu were made in Somalia.

KDF Set in motion events that have brought hope to Somalia.

South Somalia’s Juba regions and vast border regions bordering Kenya have been Al-Shabaab military bases, militant training grounds, economic hubs, banks, logistics, armory, besides bomb making and suicide bomber training centers.

KDF has since then destroyed these strategic military assets of the militants cutting them off from their economic lifeline, troops and military supply lines, food, medical, and most importantly their source of revenue.

This stymied Al-Shabaab capacity to reinforce defenses in Mogadishu and other East and Northern regions of Somalia allowing Ethiopia and most notably Ugandan contingent operating in Mogadishu for almost a decade.

This how Uganda forces who only controlled the presidential compound in Mogadishu by blood managed to get a reprieve besides since end of 2011 throughout 2012, made gains outside Mogadishu.

AMISOM Components Sabotage

In Mid 2012, Kenya chief of defense forces General Karangi explained the delay in KDF advance to the last areas under Al-Shabaab command accusing some components of AMISOM as desperate for a piece of Kismayu.

AMISOM has nearly wrecked Kenya defense forces operations in Somalia after KDF was absorbed in the outfit.

Strategic Intelligence confirmed KDF troops in Somalia were not supplied with essentials by AMISOM which is funded by the United States through UN.

To keep KDF in health, Kenyan Generals flew to South Somalia with helicopters-loads of essential supplies besides promising these problems would not manifest again.

General Karangi and General Kasaon responsibly handled the problem with very high level of professionalism. Defense headquarters agreed that the KDF top brass regretted re-hatting into AMISOM.

AMISOM Denounce Ownership of Air and Sea Borne Assets Attacking Kismayu

AMISOM in mid September 2012, directly attacked Kenya defense forces by denying that KDF air-force and naval force were not part of AMISOM assets.

Earlier in September 2012, Ugandan Generals also confirmed that they would not help Kenya Defense Forces operating near Kismayu alleging that KDF did not help them in Mogadishu.

The 3-Ugandan helicopters that crashed in Kenya were bound for Somalia and could have been used in aerial attack operations between Jiliib and Mogadishu and hopefully Kismayu.

KDF has superior and more capable helicopters such as the night hunter Harbin Z9W which locks and fires a rocket at a target 7 kilometers away.

Vital intelligence on tunnels, routes, and secret facilities used by the Al-Shabaab in the South and in Kismayu have been kept away from KDF.

Already, KDF boots are operating outside Kismayu airport and the West of the seaport while a mechanized battalion is surrounding the city just 30 miles outside Kismayu.

Special operations forces from the KDF are launching hit and run operations targeting high value targets such as command centers, bases, and defensive positions in city edges causing mayhem and mass pullout of Al-Shabaab from Kismayu.

Kismayu has fallen to KDF and anytime it will be cleaned and pacified, KDF military intelligence has reiterated.

Impact of Kismayu Fall to KDF

KDF is arguably the only military in the world to manage pacifying Somalia from scratch whereby, they have used equipment and a budget that is way small compared to the West’s mega budgets that end up in loss of life and damage of economies.

KDF winning the urban warfare in Afmadow and Kismayu signals a significant strategic capacity in both leadership of the army and the ability of its soldiers to execute their war strategy expeditiously.

The UN has started warning KDF to prevent loss of lives in Kismayu while AMISOM has started denying KDF air and naval assets to operate under its banner.

More West analysts feel KDF glory in Somalia ridicules the Wests super-armed army, modern technology attack jets and helicopters, laser guided missiles, and hefty budgets that have rather brought down economies and brought more misery to countries like Libya, Iraq, and Afghanistan than any good.

Kenya Defense Forces Has Kamov 50 Attack Helicopters

March 19 | Posted by David James | Intelligence News, Military Intelligence

The Kenya Defence Forces have acquired a very powerful and battle effective gunship helicopter from Russia, the Kamov 50 -Hokum single pilot jet-like gunship armed ground attack helicopter.

According to defense analysts Kenya defense forces are testing 4-units of the Hokum, Ka-50 gunship helicopter which is dreaded for its speed and precisions.

The intimidating, highly versatile and fast Kamov Ka-50 “Black Shark”, NATO reporting name ‘Hokum A’, is a deadly support attack helicopter.According to Israeli intelligence, the Ka-50 is ideal as the special forces’ support helicopter while the Mil Mi-28 will be used by KDF as the main army’s gunship.

The acquisition of the Kamov-50 Hokum by KDF was advised by Israeli defense whose Israel Aerospace Industries developed a tandem-seat cockpit version, the Kamov Ka-50-2 “Erdogan”, to compete in Turkey’s attack helicopter competition, a very succesful venture with Kamov.

Kenya Army KDF Achievements in Somalia Dwarfs Major Armies Capabilities

Quote  Posted by David James | Geopolitics, Intelligence News, Military Intelligence

Kenya Defense Forces have excelled where American troops failed to make a foot hold on territory. American troops invaded Somalia but were killed.

Ethiopian forces with logistical and military facilities support from the United States gained ground in a week but pulled back in frights as they were attacked and Killed by Islamic Courts troops.

No foreign army has managed a foothold in Somalia but Kenya Defense Forces have and this achievement is not going down well with powerful countries such as the US and Britain.

KDF is using a unique strategy to fight and win. They eliminate the enemy, scout, and police the liberated area besides bringing in local administration to assert its authority in the liberated area. Two KDF has TFG forces doing the policing and scouting work.

The purpose of this strategy is to preempt insurgency and guerilla rebirth. Interestingly, Kenya defense forces help demine the liberated areas, de-militarize, arrest elements of enemy, and most importantly, seal the liberated area besides ensuring arms are confiscated.

This ensures Al-Shabaab does not regroup and regain ground. The strategy paves way for lasting peace and social integration.

Military intelligence shows Kenya defense forces are using logistics as a weapon to win the war and sure, they are.

Al-Shabaab have ran away from the south and now are regrouping far north near the Ethiopian forces. Al-Shabaab has killed several Ethiopian troop but have been pushed out of Baidoa.

Of course, they are now worried and disorganized after losing leaders, equipment, and troops to KDF. This means KDF has done the dirty work for Ethiopian troops and AMISOM in Mogadishu.

Kenya Police First in Africa with Eurocopter AS350B3e Helicopter

http://www.defencetalk.com/kenya-police-first-in-africa-with-eurocopter-as350b3e-helicopter-39609/

The Kenya Police Air-Wing is expanding its airborne law enforcement and crime prevention unit with the delivery of a Eurocopter AS350 B3e Ecureuil helicopter.

Kenya’s selection of the AS350 B3e, which is the enhanced version of Eurocopter’s successful AS350 model, follows an open and competitive tender won earlier this year by Eurocopter Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd, the Group subsidiary in charge of Southern Africa markets.

The new helicopter, which was handed over to the Kenya Police, in Nairobi will be dedicated to police law enforcement and crime prevention missions including anti-poaching, anti-terrorism operations. It will also be deployed in search & rescue, casualty evacuation, personnel transport and various other civic protection roles.

The Kenya Police Air-Wing is the first African customer for the AS350 B3e, which boasts several enhancements over previous AS350 variants, including an uprated Turbomeca Arriel 2D turbine engine allowing better take-off performances while decreasing maintenance costs.

Range and payload was a primary consideration in selecting the AS350 B3e as the Air-Wing required a helicopter capable of patrolling both the dense built up area around the major cities, Nairobi and Mombasa, but also to cover smaller towns and communities spread over large areas.

Kenya has a land area of 580,000 km2 and a population of nearly 39 million residents. It has a diverse geography including a long Indian Ocean coastline. Inland, the terrain varies from savannah grasslands to forests, mountains and even dessert regions. The Police Airwing’s choice of Eurocopter AS350 B3e aircraft was based on their superior operational capability and its proven rugged reliability which will enable it to operate in the Kenya’s variable conditions which range from equatorial humidity at the coast to hot and dusty in the arid regions.

Over the past decade, the AS350 B3, with its outstanding capabilities, has become the reference helicopter for airborne police units in the Sub-Sahara Africa where law enforcement agencies in Angola, Namibia, Botswana and South Africa have also selected them.

The powerful, high-performance AS350 B3e is designed to carry out the most demanding missions in the most extreme weather and geographical conditions. Its exceptional lifting capability, high endurance, extended range and fast cruise speed make the AS350 B3e the leader in its class. The popularity of Eurocopter’s AS350 in a law enforcement role can be attributed to its ability to meet all of a police flying unit forces’ main requirements.

The AS350 B3e is a member of Eurocopter's rugged and proven Ecureuil family. Some 5,000 Ecureuil have been delivered in 98 countries for some 1,600 operators. These aircraft have cumulated more than 21 million hours.

*An AS350 B3 climbed to 3,000m / 9,900ft in 2mins 21sec and made a world record landing on Mount Everest.

Established in 1994, the 100% owned subsidiary employs 80 people to generate an annual turnover of over 300 mZAR through the sale of the complete range of Eurocopter products and services in Southern Africa. The continuous endeavor to better service its customers, led Eurocopter Southern Africa to move in 2011 to bigger and better premises in Grand Central Airport, ideally positioned midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria in the heart of the economical capital of South Africa.

Kenya Army Ups Air Defenses With SA-11 BUK1M SP-SAM from Russia

http://intelligencebriefs.com/?p=1451

Kenya acquired the SA-11 BUK1M SP-SAM missile system used against high-performance aircraft and cruise missiles in an effort to preempt current threat posed by Ugandan air force.

Uganda recently acquired SU-30MK2 Flankers, superior fighter aircraft from Rosoboronexport, a Russian state arms company dealing with the SU-30 aircrafts.

The acquisition of the BUK1M missile defense system is a strategic step in preempting threats on Kenyan territory besides harnessing air defense capacity.

According to Russian security experts, the SA-11 BUK1M (GADFLY) is a medium-range, semi-active, radar-guided missile using solid-rocket propulsion that provides defense against high-performance aircraft (SU-30MK2, among other types of flankers) and cruise missiles.

Kenya Air Force May Have Acquired 8 Israeli F-15 Strike Eagles

http://intelligencebriefs.com/?p=1393

8 New jets have been acquired and delivered to Kenya. According to a senior officer in the Armed forces of Kenya, ex-Israeli F-15 strike eagle fighter jets were delivered at Laikipia airbase, the KDF’s main air defense facility and the largest in the East and Central Africa.

The acquisition may end speculation about the harnessed procurement of a new air force fleet to out-phase the old F-5 fleet.

Kenya is eying Saudi, Israeli, and US F-15 fighter fleets owing to the fact that the three countries besides Japan are the largest users of the highly priced fighter jets.
