Thank you very much for this. But in reality, I have no land to my name and little money in the bank. I'm a freelancer. And sometimes I go to my dad's office to help him in his business. (He has a manufacturering firm) I want to say I volunteer at my dad's firm and he will be the one sponsoring my entire expenses. He has a lot of assets I can show, but I have none. In this my situation, how do I construct a good SOP for avoid the "Personal asset and Financial status" issue, considering the fact that I have none? I just need an idea of how the SOP would look in my case.

You can get your dad to gift a property to you out of love and affection he has for you and he has irrevocable power over the asset. This will aid your application as per the "Personal Assets and Financial Status"

Please I have asked this question before and I’m yet to get a reply. Can I use a PgCert to pursue a Masters degree? What I have seen so far for the course I want to study (Human Resources Mgt) is mostly PgCert. Is it a waste of time studying for PgCert instead of PgDip? I need answers please.

Thank you sir. about the second question I am just asking that is it possible to change program without any effect from both school and IRCC. there is possibility of my supervisor probably taking away my graduate research offer of 18k initially attached to the phd

1. Speak to the graduate coordinator of your program.
2. McGill is not a very small school that will take this stuff lightly if you don't come with your 'A game'. You could lose your student status, and I will probably advice you to get an alternative while in Canada before submitting for a change of program.
3. Except of course you took a loan of over 50 million naira, I am sure you would be able to pay back while doing your PhD. You can get more Fellowships(and other source of funds) and side jobs.

I will strongly advice against your decision to switch to masters. It might be seen as misleading, and I think this issue started happening in the US some years ago, where Nigerians get masters and don't continue with PhD even though that was their arrangement with their advisors. Getting students to hire is not easy, and if you do what you plan to do, just know that your advisor might never take another Nigerian again. Please, we must learn to put Nigeria's image in consideration when making decision abroad.

Best of lucks!

@Frankrobbn1 @justmellow please help me
I am about applying for visa but the statement of account I intend to use is that of my Dad but the problem is my brother has applied with this same statement since October and hasn't gotten response. Now he has moved on with his business and I just want to apply. If I use this same account, won't it raise questions or affect decisions on financial status. Please help

Thank you.

Frankrobbn1:

Your sister in Canada can sponsor your studies in Canada. However, its highly advisable that you must demonstrate tangible family ties like properties, registered business and investments in your name to prove to the visa officer beyond every reasonable doubt that your incentives to return back to Nigeria far outweighs that of CANADA. Your ability to provide adequate ties to Nigeria determines your application success.

Real Truth, nice one. Congratz, wishing safe trip ahead. Pls what documents did you submitted? And how many months did it take the embassy to grant your visa application. Also I need to ask if you applied with college admission or uni. It will all end in praise Ijn. Waiting for Your response. Thanks

I applied during the heat of Corona so my processing time may be very very strange to many of you!

April - CAQ
JUNE - APPLIED
JUNE - Biometrics
June - AIP
JUNE - medical request

Then the wait started (deferred my admission to September this year)

The wait was depressing and the most uncertain time of my life coz I wanted to rent my own place and start my life but, I just kept on praying and believing

OCTOBER - in end sars Protest ground I got BVL
October - PPR
November - Sent my passport to Lagos VFS office ( what a mistake)
December 3 2020 - MY STAMPED PASSPORT TOUCHED MY HAND!

I applied to Concordia University, Montreal Quebec!

I uploaded ONLY the document they asked in the cic website... ONLY THOSE 6 things, in “client information” I uploaded my statement of purpose and my letters from sponsor!

Is GOD THAT DID IT!

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I intend to apply for a study permit and travel with my 4-year old daughter who turns 5 in October, my husband is not traveling with us. I got admission to NSCC for a Grad Cert in Event Management.
I read on the IRCC website that a minor applying from outside Canada would need a study permit even though they are accompanying a parent. I also read on this forum that a child was not allowed to board the airplane because the child had a visitor's visa and the mom had a work permit.

"Visa offices processing temporary residence applications made outside Canada by minor children who want to study in Canada should consider them as students and not as visitors, even when they are accompanying a parent who is authorized to either work or study in Canada. In other words, a study permit is required, unless they are exempt from requiring one pursuant to Section R188."

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/guidelines-on-minor-children.html

In filling the forms online, I have to upload a letter of acceptance from the school for my child as well as fill the IMM1294 form - I don't have a letter of acceptance because my friends in Canada told me that the School Board assigns kids to schools close to where they are living and I have not secured accommodation yet.

For those who applied with child(ren), please how did you go about this? I am confused. Please help!

I am just hearing about this.
Recently, I helped in an application which involved 2 minor children. Their father was for student permit and they and their mother accompanied with visitor visa application and they got their visas. They are scheduled to travel in a few weeks to come. So it is so strange hearing children must apply for study permit even while accompanying parents who are going as students. Perhaps it is a new rule. Let's wait for others to respond too.

I believe you can pursue a masters degree with a post grad cert. If your gpa is high, please apply for a masters degree, if not consider a graduate cert or post grad diploma. I also would say that a grad cert is not inferior to a graduate diploma or a masters degree. If you still have doubts, there are many youtube channels that compare these programs and may provide you with more information as it did for me. Also, i advise that you focus on the course modules and co-op options to determine which program or college that’s best for you.

3. paying back means not money all through that period becos my tuition per year is 20k cad aside living expenses of 10k cad
my supervisor is a Nigerian I only think he might want to withdraw the 18k graduate research offer which i dont mind although i pray he understands
Please other gurus i await your contributions too. Thanks
