I have long heard rumors about Igbo's being sidelined and not being drafted into a "fulanized" army. So I decided to statistically confirm if it's true.

According to statista.com, 15.2 percent of Nigerians are Igbo.

Therefore, I sampled 421 officers promoted by LT GEN Buratai on November 25, 2020.

My shocking observation,

62 out of 421 officers promoted have direct Igbo surnames. This equals to 14.7 percent of the promoted officers in the Nigerian Army. This is a very close call to the actual 15.2 percentage of the Igbo ethnicity.

So my question is this, isn't this military marginalization claim simply false?

NB: No Ethnic banters, no stupid comments. No unintelligent comments please.

Interesting. May I have the source of the list of 421 officers promoted by LT GEN Buratai on November 25, 2020.

Igbos are 15% of Nigerian population?
I.e 15 X 200 000 000/100
= 30 000 000?

I doubt.
We're more than that.
No, you are half the population.

Igbos are around 25%-30% of Nigeria's population..

Don't base you conclusion on the 5 SE states.. More than 10 million Igbos are residents out side SE and SS.. (There are up to 5millon Indeginous Igbos in Delta and Rivers State plus Igbo residents in other SS states.)
Check stats and don't make ambiguous claims.

Fulani boys in NL dishing out fake threads with fake data every day because they think every Nigerian is so gullible and lady to research anything.

You could have said Igbos were 79% of Nigerian army and 83% of Nigerian Navy. We will still believe you because we are all too lazy to verify anything told to us by a Fulani boy on NL.
Statists is more accurate than Wiki. And by the way, I ain't Fulani, I'm of Ibo origin and I like to factually confirm information. Anyway, just like you many Nigerians like to think they're wise but dumb in reality. Travel outside and see how normal people behave.

You did good research. I prefer these factual posts rather than tribal gossip we have here - Well done. However you seem to have lumped the South-south names along with the Igbo names.

There are a lot of Middle belt names that "seem' like Igbo names.

I can only identify 38 core Igbo names here

they're definitely more than 55 at least. I've lived in Nigeria a lot and know Igbo to a good extent. I didn't only identify the Igbo names I know the meanings but also the ones I've come across and the ones I can identify an Igbo ancestral phrase. Normally speaking, you many not think Obilor and Onoja are Igbo.

Lol, Obilor is delta Igbo or Anambra Igbo. Onoja is Igala ( usually given to people who had titled ancestors) However even with 38 we cannot really claim marginalization

There may even be more Ibibio people than Hausa but no one can for sure say...only quack numbers for political purposes

No be human being like me and you write that yeye statistics? I know you are only looking for people will visit your blog, thank your stars, I've done that..

But know it that, that statistics is from Kaduna media house.

Hausa are the third largest population we have in the country, behind Igbo and Yoruba..

In the entire NE, it's only in Bauchi you will get real Hasua speakers..
They are mainly found in the NW where there are also many minority tribes.

But in SE and SW you will get 97% Igbos and Yorubas respectively.. In Igbo case you can count millions of migrants in other parts of the country.
