I left this till today that is Sunday before I ask this question so that we, the body of Christ, can deliberate on it.

Last week, the entire media space was awash with the news of the sack of about 38 pastors by Living Faith Ministries Worldwide aka Winners Chapel.

Those who broke the news claim the pastors were sacked because they were not financially fruitful but Bishop Oyedepo, the General Overseer of the church, in a counter, claimed the pastors were sacked because they were not spiritually fruitful; they were not winning souls.

But does either of the reason justify the sacking of a pastor?

I ask this because before someone is called a pastor, it is supposed that there must have been some calling from God. A voice must have spoken to him. Like some inner prompting must have occurred that made such a person decide to answer the call.

Now, when that person decided he wanted to answer that calling under Winners Chapel, I’m sure some sort of screening occurs for all applicants and the successful candidates are subjected to some period of training.

At the training or during the training, the candidates, I suppose, should be made to understand the word of God better, understand the church’s tradition, philosophy and theology. But most importantly, the calling of the candidates is subjected to test to determine if they were truly called by God or if the voice they heard was that of Satan or the yearning for the material accompaniments that comes with being a pastor.

Now, at the end of the training period, successful candidates, who passed those tests, are consecrated as pastors. At this point, the candidate should now enjoy all the benefits of his office and some security of vocation being that his calling has been vetted.

In the Catholic Church, at the completion of your seminary training, you are ordained ‘a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek’. Nothing you do will ever make you stop being a priest; whether you are not financially fruitful or not winning souls.

Well, that’s the Catholic Church. But isn’t that the template that the training of pastors for organized religious institution like Winners Chapel should take?

Or do you think that God can ‘uncall’ the ‘called’?

Penguin is a bird of reason!

The sacking proved that God didn't call them rather they were employed to fleece the gullibles of their hard earned money in Jeeeeeeeeesus name and when they couldn't do so they were relieved of their duties to be replaced by more capable hands that will raise enough money for Oyedepo in Jeeeeeeeeesus name

How come the Bishop is willing to lose 38 souls the he has already won for not bringing/winning more more souls? What was the parable of the lost sheep all about?

This matter of sack has been overly discussed with even the supposed well trained Ministers ofthe Gospel, taking sides.

Brother, the sacked Pastors are can count their sack as a persecution and so move on. Truth be told, "any branch that bears no fruit shall be cut off" (John 15:1-2).

Please let's die this matter.

That’s it.

The action goes to demonstrate that what they have is a business enterprise and not a body of God under spiritual direction.

What of the parable of the single lost sheep? Why is the Bishop trading off 38 souls that he has already won?

How many of Jesus’ disciples did He cut off even Judas whom He knew was going to betray him?

The problem with you Pentecostals is that you read the Bible in piecemeal instead of reading it in pericope.

The danger of this is that most of the times you take some of these Bible passages out of context and fail to get the entire intended message.

The passage of the Bible you quoted was talking about how “the branches” must remain in him to be fruitful.

Even the particular verse you quoted, you cut it in half. If only you were sincere enough to read a little bit down, Jesus says “And anyone who is not fruitful, he prunes so he can be fruitful”.

Stop reading the Bible in piecemeal.

Sir, I am sad that today's church has been "invaded, infiltrated and some conquered". The level of untruthfulness in the church is damning. Most people are now hiding in the church to carry on the nefarious acts.

Only God knows those that are His.

Oyedepo does no wrong. Those sacked guys went they for a job and must have signed some paperworks before their engagement. I even that one of them disclosed that they were place on probation. If so, he has no case.

Sir, it is not true that some picked a verse to buttress a point.

On the matter of sack, I read one interview by one of the sacked Pastors that they were placed on probation. If that is true, then they must have signed some paperworks and agreed to terms. Thus, their failure to fulfill the terms necessitated their sack. This is also obtainable in government employ.

That's how Oyedepo decides to run "his church".

Of course! For many are called but few chosen.

But that's besides the point, as we all know the main reason the pastors were sacked was because they didn't produce enough tithes and offering/money, which is very unchristlike and wrong. Matthew 22:14.

Not surprised.

You're obviously ignorant of what it means to bear fruits according to the Word of God.

You thought it was a saying of the world that you've chosen to interpret it in worldly way just like most church leaders do.

Kindly look up the parable of the sower to get the actual meaning, so you'd stop spreading more ignorance.

The so called general overseers are into church business these days, all they are after for are money and women.
My Boss Evangelist Cornelius Benjamin doesn't charge for church programs when invited to minister in songs, he'll only ask to the organizers to pay us the instrumentalists and provide musical instruments only.
The video below is one of the church programs we performed at

Today, there are churches everywhere.

So many scammers have taken up the Bible claiming they have been called.

Do you still not see anything in that? And the fact that something needs to be done to arrest what has now become Church business?

You don't understand! Needless of all this. The sacked Pastors, according to one of them in another interview, they were placed on probation, which implies that they signed an agreement.

That's the way Oyedepo's Church is run.

This is the reason why so many pastors are in such a hurry to start their own ministries and churches.

Bishop oyedepo's sacking of the 40 pastors to me was a bit hasty and rash, but those pastors ought to have known the 'no nonsense' stance of Oyedepo before they were employed.

It's regrettable that they were sacked, but it's an eye opener that being called as a pastor doesn't make you immune to a sacking especially by a church called winners chapel.

The parable of of lost sheep had to do with Jesus Christ, the one and only sherpherd - John 10 vs 7 - 16 - searching for and finding His sheep, and not some man pretending to be sherpherd over God's sheep. undecided

Whenever you read the Bible, pay attention to context so you don't remain lost in the lies stored up in your heart. undecided

John 15 vs 1 - 16, clearly explains that the one responsible for the branches bearing the kind of fruit that God wants is Jesus Christ, the vine , and that God Himself, not man, prunes the branches. What this mean is that the relationship that exists between each branch and God is managed by God and God alone. undecided
Another message in there for you is that the fruit each branch is meant to produce is that of submission to and obedience of the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ, to which Jesus Christ declares in John 15 vs 14, that those who are of Him, His friends, are those who obey His commandments - do what He asks them to do. undecided

Was it not men that told you that to run such ministries, you had to be specially "called" of God? undecided

Was it not men that told you that these special calls and ministries you set up are somehow to glory & honor God? undecided

Jesus Christ never asked any of His own to run any ministry on His behalf. He never told men that they were specially called by God to run ministries on His behalf and He certainly never told any of His followers that running such ministries in His name were to honor God. undecided

The only thing that honors God is our obedience and this obedience of the teachings and commandments of Jesus Christ. All other things, including your callings and ministries are vain worship that are abominations to God and His Law - Matthew 15 vs 1 - 14 undecided
