Thanks! Can't wait for you to come o! We all must encourage and support ourselves in this journey...honestly, it can be draining. I really give thumbs up to folks here that take time to guide people free of charge. I sometimes get irritated when I see those immigration consultants trying to exploit people cos they know better.

I really don't know much about the process cos mine was pretty straightforward but what I have been doing here in Canada is to help people settle, especially in the job side of things. The almighty blessed me to land a fantastic job within weeks of arrival (what some Canadians struggle to get) and I have since felt indebted to support others. I am in the HR/recruiting space here and I am very happy to connect with people on Linkedin for now, especially those that are on their way soon.

Please I will like to connect with you on LinkedIn too

If you have a Masters degree then next thing that would give you more points is PHD or taking French.

Thank you

Hello All,
I want to convert my proof of fund to dollars because of the way naira going downhill.
Should I stick to the old rate of 12960 CAD or the updated rate of 13 thousand something? I submitted last year with the old rate.

My POF was/still is a gift deed, since I obviously still need to add about extra 2 million naira to complete the money when changing it dollars, do I still need to explain that this extra top up is a gift deed or I should straight up just send my new domicilliary account balance to them shikena.
Should I use the CAD to USD conversion rate on Oanda and XE. I’m really cash strapped and the black market rate is crazy.
Please sorry for the plenty plenty questions abeg. I really need guidance. Many thanks!!!

We are back to square 1.

Hopefully they can focus on governance (read immigration) now.
The rest of the world has moved on, they should do same .Encourage high levels vaccination including booster shots and get back to work.

Be calming down and don't be like the indians whining up and down on Twitter. It's their country and their process. Y'all should cut them some slack. Canada has really helped the whole world, let's for once appreciate them.
While USA and some other countries were kicking out immigrants, Canada kept taking. Just be patient

My answer will be in 3 parts. It's just a suggestion o and I could end up being wrong.

1. If you are already post AOR and have excess money or can get additional gifts from family, then I'd advise you to convert to dollars. I suspect post AOR people are assessed on the POF applicable when they applied. No need to send an update if you were not asked.....my opinion.

2. If you are post AOR and you are cash strapped and no extra money anywhere. Just maintain the status quo. If they send you an ADR for POF, then you present you additional gift deed in Naira or USD.....If they don't, then they don't.

3. If you are pre AOR/ITA just begin the journey with dollars straight up......for exchange rate and blood pressure stability. cheesy

IMO FX rate only applies if you decide to keep your POF in Naira (the USD CAD rate is relatively stable compared to USD Naira). I honestly don't know what these VOs use.....some people say it's the Canadian Government website rate....I can't confirm or deny.

Thank you for your encouraging words. Honestly, we need more people like you, who have passed through this process and have started new lives over there to keep engaging those of us who are still behind.
I know it's not easy keeping up sometimes, especially while you're yet to be fully acclamatised and settled in your new found home, but it would be really nice if we could get that. Thanks, once again. smiley

Thanks bro for the kind words. Someday, it will be your turn to help folks settle here. I got loads of help when I arrived which really helped me settle fast. And it's also for the rest of us to return the favour... Including you guys here. I strongly believe the naija community will be even stronger soonest.

For you all asking to connect on Linkedin... I am more than happy to connect. However, I am not sure if its allowed for me to post my linkedin profile here. Perhaps, elders here can advise on that.

As for jobs connect, no be me they give work o.. Lol. But I know quite a number of recruiters here I can send profiles as referrals and even better for roles I am directly hiring for. Also, if we get connected on Linkedin and you apply for any role u see me and the recruiter are connected, I will be happy to help reach out to the recruiter. Some of them owe me one.

Also, part of what I take time to do is talk recruiting here in Canada to help new comers to understand the market. Below is a virtual session I recently jumped on last Saturday... Hope there is a thing or two someone can pick from watching the video. I am the light skinned dude in the video.

I don’t think it’s in your place to tell people how to feel or express themselves.
We keep acting like everyone has the same temperament.
I have my reasons for immigrating, some people have their lives on hold - can’t change jobs or even get married or start having children.

You could have started with the second part of your message but here you are telling me how to feel.

Do you know what people went to through just to get work reference letter from their line managers? What about the money saved in Naira and continually losing value.

Or are you saying those waiting from 2018 or early 2019 caught up in this pandemic bubble have no reason to vent?

It’s simple, all of these started because of Covid and then lockdown followed by travel restrictions which aren’t even there anymore.

People just want to know how to move forward with their lives - that’s all.

My friend gave up and moved to Germany while others are opting for UK Masters.

This is Nigeria, everyday it’s something new and i need to know what I am doing.

Hmm....I won't sha say anymore than you've said. No one can blame you for being expressive of your disappointment in the system. I had 470 last year just waiting for the next draw in April to grab my ITA which never came, fell to 465 in September and now on 459 with my perfect ielts result about to expire in a few months. If I say I'm not disappointed, I'm a liar but i refrain from talking so as not to go ballistic on any of those who come here to speak like they are Trudeau's classmates from his kindergarten days saying we are owed nothing. I'll like to rest my case here as I sense the anger hitherto holed up brewing again.

Hello All, Good day.

Please I have a pressing concern, I read electronic engineering but I’ve been working as a data scientist/Business intelligence analyst since I graduated from college. I also have a masters in computer science but the period since my masters isn’t up to 3 years. The person helping me apply says that my work experience must be Electronic Engineering based since it’s not been up to 3 years since I finished my masters.

The idea according to him is that you must have a work experience that corresponds with your education for 3 years. How true is this and is there a way I can use my Data science career as work experience?

I’m starting to think the whole stopping draws and shenanigans were merely political. What better way to show Canadians that they care about them? Lmaooo now that the elections are over, everybody should expect draws really soon.

Hello everyone

My BSc degree and Professional Certificate (CIPM) were evaluated by WES as "Bachelor's degree (three years) and Bachelor's degree (four years)". Is this how the WES report is for everyone with such profile?

While completing my IRCC application, there was no option of "Two or more degrees" as I see on the CRS Tools, I only saw the "Bachelors Degree" option and "Master's Degree or licensed certification" option. So, I picked "Bachelor's Degree" option for both at the point where asked the equivalent of my degrees as stated in my WES report .

But after submitting my application, my overall score dropped by 40 points as against the score I got when I used the CRS Tool.

Please I will appreciate your advice.

Thank you.

I guess you haven't solved this issue..

To be eligible for express entry you must have at least 1 year work experience but having 3 years or more work experience will increase your CRS. Your work experience doesn't have to be related to what you studied in school except you want to apply for Saskatchewan PNP. Also your work experience could be post first degree or masters degree, it doesn't matter. I'll advice you go through page 1 of this thread very well, do your own research because it's obvious the person helping you apply knows nothing!

To all those who wish to write BCS exams to boost their scores, I have good news: BCS now has an accredited training centre in Ibadan!

You can get in touch with us at Twim Institute.

If you don't know what BCS is or how (and if) it can help your Express Entry application, I made a very comprehensive video about the BCS HEQs.

People pay for these applications, they definitely owe people explanations as to why there is a delay in their service. Can't you see that this is all wrong ? Stop accepting mediocrity! People have their lives on hold, CRS points dropping left, right and center and you want people to be calming down?

If a fellow Nigerian is offering such bad service, would you say people should calm down, that it's their service? Won't you shout and give them a bad rating? Are you used to such bad service or it's just inferiority complex?

They owe each one of us a proper explanation why they put our lives on hold and I do not mean the Covid excuse, people have moved on from covid, vaccines are out.

Exactly my response to someone defending the indefensible on a post-AOR WhatsApp group yesterday.

"I guess you are used to taking sh*tty behavior. This is a symptom of an inferiority complex. They owe us an explanation despite the pandemic. What is wrong with some of us? Can't you see this is all wrong? Some of us are rendering services and we go beyond and above to make our clients happy. We plan for exigencies and even when we rarely can't meet deadlines we give feedbacks."

"I can't deal with my wife constantly checking for updates on our application. She wakes up every morning wearing that look of "God when". It's 5 months post-AOR and no update, no message, no nothing ... That is after going through OINP for close to 5 months. It's putting a strain on my marriage. We can't do a long time planning and someones think I should applaud them and also give them excuses. Sorry to say, that is dumb."

"You can say that again. We are not refugees. I have a good career here. IRCC needs to do better. The earlier we all agree and call this what it is, the better."

I later have to apologize for my choice of words in the first two comments. But then it's high time we stopped defending this gross ineptitude. They surely can do better than this.

But you are not holding Nigeria to account. Isn't the system there why you wanna run? You have energy for Canada only...they never forced or asked you to participate.

Good Day All,

Please my application in the Express entry pool was to expire on the 21st so I had to withdraw it to create a new application again. This I did today 22nd.

In filling the new application, the section where they ask if you’ve applied to Immigration Canada before, I said yes and when I input the UCI (Unique Client Identifier it says it’s problematic. So I had to say no.

My assumptions are that because I withdrew the initial application maybe it has been removed from their system.

Has anyone experienced this before ?
