Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has explained why he was not in support when Maduka Okoye got his first call-up to the Super Eagles.

Udeze made this known in Tuesday’s edition of his radio show ‘No Holds Barred’ on Brila FM.

1xbit
According to Udeze, he kicked against the idea because Okoye was playing in the German fourth division at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

“I was against Okoye’s invitation to the Eagles back them,” the 2002 FIFA World Cup star began.

“I queried that how can a player in Division four in Germany be invited to the Eagles. But there was something Rohr saw that made him invite him.

“Now we all can see that Rohr was right after all about him.”

The 22-year-old shot stopper has since gone on to make 11 appearances for Nigeria, after making his debut in 2019 in a 1-1 draw against Brazil.

On Monday, he signed a five-and-half-year deal with Watford but will remain with Sparta Rotterdam until the end of the current season.

As at when the call was made, it was very questionable because the league was so poor and the said player wasn't setting it ablaze. OK, were we in need of a goal keeper, but just imagine handing Nwakali a call now just because we are in need of an enforcer. You see, the figure "9" will always have a different meaning when viewed from different angles.

yes of course but mind you that the kid wasn’t brought on to displace the former number

And before rohr invited him I believe he saw something in the lads game which him and his crew hv worked hard to polish

Well those who questioned the call, their fears were justifiable. That league was so low, and Maduka wasn't setting it ablaze. You think there would have been an uproar if it was a golie like Arthur Okonkwo or that boy from Austria who all play in better leagues at young a age?
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 7:38pm On Nov 09, 2021
I don't see how Rorh has been vindicated as regards bringing Okoye from the 4th division in Germany. Are we trying to imply that if he gave other young GKs that chance, they won't have made that progression? For me, he is young and has room to get better. He has been signed to Watford maybe he can make the progression up. But I don't get all this vindicatory remarks. That he is signed can prove to be a big step, but can also go the other way. Signing to a club is one thing, making the mark eventually is yet another. As far as SE is concerned, he still has a fierce competition in Uzoho, because one slightly better than the other either way you want to go. Neither of them are super, but they are young. If there is something Rorh is seeing in Okoye, I have not seen it yet. Signing to Watford alone does not necessarily mean Rorh saw something that I have not seen.

if those you mentioned were called up many here will kick against it

Moreover maduka was only invited for friendlies and I strongly believe that he did something right while training with the team that entered him to the heart of rohr and his coaching crew

His debut was against Brazil because of uzoho’s injury and since then have been working hard and his improvement is evident since he moved to the eredivisie and now the epl

It’s no easy feat man because with such rapid progression means he is good

Don’t forget last season he was voted his teams best players and best goal minder in the league as a whole

Taaa gbafuo, you better look my face and see say I no send you!

The problem with you and your company is that you have a bit of comprehension problems and until that is fixed any conversation with you will be a waste of time. Stop being too danm emotional and sentimental and argue like a man with some sanity. I have tried to explain my position with Azubike and Ndidi but your brain is too dense to understand it. But , for the umpteenth time let me say it again, you ffucking gaddem Nigerian without a working brain; I prefer a ball playing DM (Zuby) against a combative DM without of limited ball playing abilities. If this position offends you then you have some deep seated issues and I have nothing to do with it. You love Ndidi and you think he is the best DM in the world. Well , fine and good but I don't Ndidi style...how hard could that be to understand.

Please , do something useful with your life and stop being frustrated over who doesn't like Ndidi. I didn't call you names but I simply said I dont rate Ndidi because of his style and limited skill set.

Few days ago , people were here dragging Nwakali who is one of my favourite player but I didn't come in here to call people names. Abeg, learn self control and accept peoples opinion.

By the way , you weren't mocking me but making a fooll out of yourself.....you cant mock your god , you little boy! Go play with kids , biko. We are not equals and will never be....this is like a shoe shinner mocking Dangote....inukwam! Taa gbafuo...onuku Igala!
