One hundred percent. I had no doubt in my mind.

When Mikel pulled off this skill, Chelsea fans were shocked at his capability. He was never given the chance.

mikel always had that elegance in his game but was restricted by Jose and Chelsea

Mike growing up was too smooth on the ball with football intelligence beyond his age

He is blessed but never reached his full potentials

Mikel was just too relaxed playing for Chelsea

He feels he doesn’t need to do anything more or keep improving

It is not true. He hardly had the chance and the European coaches were wicked. A good example was during Chelsea's Europa League I think Semifinals. Benitez told David Luiz to play defensive midfield and wanted to experiment with Mikel in the creative midfield role.

Davild Luiz left his role and took the creative midfield role. Mikel had to sit to defend the team and criticised Luiz for that move after the game.

What did Benitez do? Punished Mikel by benching him in the final. If it was a White kid, it won't happen.

yes of course, Barca and other top European teams were waiting behind to pounce before the issue was resolved.

It was even reported that an agent met him with a large sum of money cash and promised more if he signed for an unnamed top club in Europe but he declined because then Chelsea hv been spending on him and his family back home

This happened when it was rumoured that he was kidnapped but was housed in London by Chelsea management

Brother shun, Chelsea really spoilt mikel with money and comfort even before he signed for them

As the football world celebrates Lionel Messi's 7th Ballon d'Or win, is it not high time we had done some introspection and asked ourselves why a nation such as Nigeria with its glorious footballing track record cannot yet boast of a single Ballon d'Or winner? In this article http:///s5d2ed7ea211130en_ng?link=1&client=news , i examine some key factors which have led to this sad situation and recommend some solutions to the problem.

Nigerians are mad by blaming Mourinho for mikel lack of attacking prowess. Mikel played under mourinho as as a dm for 2/5 seasons and if he wasn’t excited about his position, he could had initiated it to his agent and signed for another team after mourinho left. To me, mikel career is a success and no one can tell whether he would had succeed at manchester

Mikel was never our typical African jam body player until he joined Chelsea

Mikel then was more like a zidane, modric and pirlo type of player. Even with his lanky frame he was very strong on the ball, glides pass opponents with ease, sweet first touch with killer passes

It was mourinho that turned him into a gbabuo ya type of player cheesy

not exactly but mikel would hv been a top CAM in European club football
I did say without Zizzou's goals. I don't think Zidane showed the kind of potentials Mikel showed at 17 or the U20s. If he had like a Mancini, Pellegrini, Ranieri or even Klopp as coach, you would have been stunned at what he could have become. Mikel' vision is extraordinary. Just a coach who truly believed in him, maybe he would have been another african contender for the ballon d'or alongside Weah, Eto Fils and Yaya. Mikel wasn't the typical African agidi player. He was a ballet dancer, smooth, silky looks a bit languid but very strong on the ball, difficult to take the ball away from him. For me, his ability to pick out a pass and send out accurate defense unlocking passes was nothing else but a gift.
I think he was just too passive and docile, he no get ego like Yaya or small craze like Essien. I remember one video wey Onazi dey make fun of Mikel in dressing room cheesy, more like he was too soft, person need small craze for this life honestly. Most highly successful people dey get small craze and stubbornness, I think that was maybe what Mikel lacked. Just my opinion.

Chose to move to Turkey instead of fighting for a move in a top European side. Kanu Nwankwo, heart problem. Igeniwari George, killed by a stray bullet after scoring a hat trick.

Mikel couldn't leave because it was more of a Shittu deal than Mikel. Mikel could only leave when Shittu said go. Mikel leaving would mean a pay cut, which means a cut in Shittu's piece of the pie.

Years later, Ferguson made Mikel know he still wanted him but Mikel could not leave.

many thought it was during the u20 World Cup that Chelsea and United spotted mikel

Mikel immediately the u17 World Cup where the team then which comprised of Obasi ogbuke, bala, okoronwo, late issac success and Sarai crashed out from the group stage, already had so much attention on him and had his first trial with man United but the deal didn’t happen immediately before he was also invited to Chelsea for a trial as well

Even when both teams didn’t sign him then because he was still a minor fergie was informed by ex United player who was mikels team manager in Norway of mikel’s progress which prompted the scot to fly to Oslo couple of times to watch the lad play. After seeing mike play for lyn in few matches a contract was arranged which mikel signed happily. I think the sign on fee then was around 2 abi 4 pounds

Mikel did not want to stay in Chelsea. He knew he found a home in Manchester United. That is why when he came to Chelsea, he had a very bad start. Getting drunk and coming late to training. He was not happy. It was the likes of Drogba and Kalu that talked him out of it.

Yes, from his first trial with United he was made to already feel that he is a United player but just matter of time

Fergie and Roy keane loved him too much. Even I read then that Roy keane doesn’t take is slightly with others in training when ever they made a bad tackle on the teenager then

He was already loved at United and even when it looked like Chelsea were having the upper hand in fifa to sign him fergie was still in touch calling him often for him to change his mind

Even mourinho didn’t really veto the signing of mike but the owner who was trying then to bring in young talented players to the team from all over the world

The same way chelase snatched mikel from United was the same way they snatched arjen robbed from the Manchester based side too

I watched Ajagun's breakthrough in Shell Cup. He was the top goal scorer before the finals. In the finals, against Oinkrama grammar school, he scored a hat trick.

Even when he was in Keshi's U17, Keshi kept him on the bench for whatever reason. When we were eliminated in the first round, Keshi gave him a substitution chance to play and he played well. Had Nigerian fans shouting and capped it up with a brilliant goal.

But series of things happened like the Keshi incident, we did not get to see Ajagun shine. When Ajagun got a run in the NPFL, he claimed the golden boot. That guy was a special striker but one thing or the other, the world never got to see him in full gear.

I watched Kelechi Osunwa's breakthrough in the golden eaglets. After the selection of the U17 team for Trinidad and Tobago, there was a frienldy for them in Calabar.

Bright Stars of Port harcourt had won a tournament in Abuja with some scintillating displays. So they were selected for a friendly.

When the game started, Calabar stood still. What happened was the unleashing of a hitman. Kelechi Osunwa who was the highest goal scorer in Abuja.

I think that match ended 4-0 and Kelechi Osunwa stole the show with a hat trick. His last goal was memorable and they had to take some Bright Stars players to camp.

I had no doubt that if Osunwa had landed that U17, he would have become a sensation. That golden boot Sinama Pongolle won was Osunwa's. Unfortunately, he was slightly over age. I think he had just turned 18 and had registered in Uniport remedial program to prepare for jam.

The media clamped hard on him and he got dropped.

Even when Musa Abdullahi became coach of Dolphins, (he was the coach of the golden Eaglets of Trinida and Tobago U17), he signed Osunwa to Dolphins and the guy netted the golden boot.

Osunwa once said, I never played in a league were I was not the top scorer. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to do it in a European club.

yes of course you are right to a certain extend but what brought mikel to lime light wasn’t even the u20 World Cup but 2003 u17 World Cup where Eguavoen was their coach.

I followed the team in the competition and even as young as I was then I singled out mike to be a star in the future. I remember in the competition he scored a goal against Costa Rica abi Chile

Then mikel was a shinning light in the 3 games the team only played in the group stage. Another player that was very good then was Emmanuel sarki. The chukwueze we rate high today wasn’t as half as good as sarki was then. Ogbuke, issac success and okoronkwo where other decent ones in the team but amongst all mikel stood out

Kola anubi if am correct paired mikel in midfield

Denied by Nigeria, Osunwa turns Arab goals king

The name on the lips of football fans in the Arab world right now is definitely not the inimitable Saeed Al-Owairan, neither is it Rabah Madjar, Badou Zaki or even Mohamed Aboutreika, a more recent star of that part of the world.

It’s an unlikely name: Kelechi Osunwa, a Nigerian, a great goals scorer of repute, who plays for Al Ahly Shendi in the Sudanese topflight league.

The Nigerian striker stands tall as the record all-time highest goals scorer in a single season in the Arab leagues, after he notched 38 goals for Shendi, which erased Algerian Nacer Bouiche’s 36 goals record for JS Kabylie in the 1985/86 season.

Before now, the 31-year-old has never lacked as far as goals scoring is concerned, right from his time with the national U-17 team 15 years ago.

Numbers they say, don’t lie and Osunwa’s intimidating goals statistics would have many heads rolling.

In ending the season on 38 goals in Sudan, he grabbed five hat-tricks, six braces and seven Man-of-the-Match awards. His entire tally is now 137 goals in the Sudanese league, and this include 40 in 51 games in 2012, the highest all-time goals. He also notched nine goals in African club competition while at Al Hilal in 2005, a record at that time; and then another five at the African U-17 Championship in 2002, another record then.

https://punchng.com/denied-nigeria-osunwa-turns-arab-goals-king/

You can see, I did not even know, he was the highest goals scorer in the U17 AYC, breaking a record, before the world cup at Trinidad and Tobago.

He was a special talent. Unfortunately, things did not work out. Even when he was called to Super Eagles camp, he just wanted a chance. Kai. Osunwa.
