It's a welcome development to us foresters, but I hope he has made other options available for the people of Nassarawa. Some of the reasons why this won't go well with the people are; The number of poor people in the North is on the high side including Nassarawa State. There are many villages in the state, so their main source of energy is charcoal or firewood Electricity is not stable in most part of the state. Other sources of energy are expensive. For these and other reasons, the ban may not be effective. |

Ban only on Newspapers? It will never work in real world. Why don't simply ask the people to stop eating food! What alternative do the people have or have you provided for them? Lunatics calling themselves leaders! |

You can make a solar stove and a super efficient wood stove with scrap material. You can easily find instructions online. Don't let these people worry you. |

I don't use charcoal but the question here is did they provide the people with an alternative when we all know that Cooking Gas and kerozene is a no go area. |

Rithner: The way the black man ended up with foolish people as leaders is still rocket science to me. It simply means an average blackman is an idiot. |

This is a good policy, but at a very bad time! Nigerian "leaders" can display cluelessness in their actions! If you can't make gas cheap, how do you expect the poor to cook? You can't expect compliance! Charcoal is the cheapest and, unfortunately, the dirtiest way of cooking. Banning it is a good idea, but not when gas prices are exorbitant and kerosene isn't cheap either. Charcoal is now going to be sold as an illegal drug in Nasarawa State. And this will in turn make it expensive, thereby making the lives of the poor there more difficult! Until the government addresses the high gas and kerosene price problems, it has no business banning charcoal! |
