NFF Considers Appointing Eguavoen Permanent Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation is considering the possibility of appointing Augustine Eguavoen permanent Super Eagles coach, reports Completesports.com.

Eguavoen was named to the post last month in an interim capacity after the NFF fired former coach Gernot Rohr on the eve of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.


The NFF later appointed Portuguese Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the three-time African champions.

Peseiro is expected to take charge of the team after the AFCON finals in Cameroon.


Eguavoen put himself in the frame for the job after guiding the Super Eagles to three successive wins in Cameroon.


“He is not in Cameroon because we have not signed a contract with him yet,” a member of the NFF executive council who does not want to be named, told ESPN.

“If he had signed a contract, he would have definitely been in Cameroon as planned.”

“We are managing the public trust. So we have to look at what the people want and we also know what we want as well,” added the official.

“What we all agree on is that we want the team to do well, to play good football, to make Nigerians happy and to win trophies.

“It doesn’t matter who the coach is, what matters is the objective. If that objective can be achieved with Eguavoen as we can see now, then why not?

“We removed Rohr because Nigerians were not happy with the play and we were not blind to see that we were not going in the right direction the way we were playing.”

so why make him an interim n why announce paseiro as the chosen man to coach d eagles if they ain't sure?
the same pinick dt said he doesn't want a local coach o, or he is scared of the disaster ahead if he goes ahead n gv the white man dt job after seeing the good works of eguaveon n the white man ends up failing like it happened to largerback, this time both pinnick n his foreign coach would be sacked.
a normal thinking country would avoid given this eguavon the job weather he wins AFCON or not bcox the change is glaring n its more safer than going for the "so called angel" we don't even know..

thats what everybody knows, even mourinho knows too bcox eguavoen av brought fresh air to the camp n this new change av given the fans hope by playing good football, we know watch eagles with happy mind unlike before...
but our NFF said dey want a foreign coach in worldcup, maybe African teams dt would play d worldcup with foreign coaches do receive a bigger match bonuses....just maybe.

If I was to be Eguavoen, after the tournament, I will continue my position as the technical director.

Better

What else do we need? No be improvement which Eagles have displayed in the ongoing AFCON.

First team to qualified conveniently into second round, the only team with 9 points I group stage.

We have only conceded one goal while scoring 6 goals.

Btw, the last coach to win AFCON for Nigeria was a Nigerian, who once played as a player to win the same AFCON.

Eguaveon currently having same qualities

SE will beat Tunisia on Sunday and I am so sure about it as these are my reasons
1) SE is the only team in the Afcon that has not conceded a goal from open play while Tunisia has conceded 2 goals from open play.
2) SE has scored against all it's opponents so far in the Afcon while Tunisia has scored against only one opponent which is poor Mauritius.
3) SE is playing on its home turf in Garouha because they have played all their games there and the home fans are behind them unlike Tunisia.
4) SE has scored first in all the matches they have played so far and Tunisia has not conceded first and won the same game in this Afcon so far.
5) SE plays the best Brand of football in the Afcon with a very devastating counter attack while Tunisia plays possessive football that in very vonulrable to counter attacks.
6) SE has the compliment of their full squad while Tunisia has alot of absentees for the game due to Corona virus.
7) SE has beaten a North African team already in this Afcon while Tunisia has been beaten by 2 west African countries already in this Afcon.
You see it will take a very big miracle for Tunisia to spring an upset on Sunday except SE experience a very drastic and unexplainable lose of form within this few days to the match......... Tunisia does not stand a chance against SE and you can take my word to the bank.

Well, they weren't sure about how Eguaveon would perform hence appointing him temporarily.

Even foreign coaches wouldn't have done better than Eguaveon's Eagles team current performance at AFCON which is making them to reconsider permanent appointment as the head coach

It will not work. The hype in the media seems to be preplanned to make way for Eguavoen. I have watched this man's team in 2005/2006 and I must say, it will be the same thing. What people have refused to see is that Afcon was even expanded and that means u will have weaker teams. Data has shown that Nigerian has always played her best football under foreign coaches - from golden 1994 to the 1998 team, even 1980 was coached by a Brazilian.

We never valued our own. Emotional sympathy will not give Austin NFF coaching job, he has done well so far and AFCON is at a critical stage now, he should continue with the same success rate and also get his politics right.

Let’s not be carried away, it’s still too early to decide. Let him win the Afcon then he can be the permanent coach who carries the Super eagles to the World Cup.

NFF are super corrupt. Useless unforward thinking bodies. I hope the FG totally stops funding them.

I remember how Eguavoen was sacked cos he came 3rd some time back. I hope such foolishness is not perpetrated again
