If u like say there are no Ijaw in Nigeria. Your frustrations remain with you.

I have reason to believe that there's no single Ijaw in Nigeria lol. Very strong reasons and I'm very serious. It's a catch-all term for people that live near water. The previous term was ORU which means the same thing. Most of the language is Igbo, Urhobo, Edo and Itshikiri.

But if a group of ppl call themselves Ijaw then they are IJaw so no argument about that. But as far as there being an Ijaw culture or even language, I'm not 100% sure. How can your native culture be a british top hat? Outside of that hat, everything else is Igbo derived.

It’s exactly this cowardly and stupid way of thinking that gives the northern hegemony the liver and confidence to ride roughshod over the rights and sensibilities of ALL southern ethnicities!

All the rubbish we’re witnessing not just in the south, but the entire country, will end the day the rest of you fools see this fight as a fight for the freedom of the entire south and not just IPOB or Igbos!

So if the entire South decide to be slave to the North, why not let it be so?
Why must IPOB use Igbos head to break coconut for the whole Igbophobic Southern ethnicities to enjoy? Who send una? Ubulu unu ezukwalu ezu?

When all is said and done, it may shock you that there are actually NO Ijaws in Rivers State! Every lie has its expiry date, and that revisionism and bullying of independent city-states to wear the Ijaw toga that you lot got up to during and after the uncivil war.....all that is about to unravel before your ogogoro red eyes!

Quick question: When Bayelsa State was created, why didn’t all those you now claim are Ijaw in present Rivers State agree to port over to the newly created Bayelsa with you lot!? Isn’t blud meant to be thicker than water!?
Oga I am an ijaw man from Rivers State have you seen any Riverine Subgroups in Rivers states who has deny being ijaws? Unlike the Ikwerres, the Etches and co who have told you to your face that they are not Igbos, yet you keep forcing your brotherhood on them. So what nonsense truth are you talking about?
There's no truth found in the average Igbo man when you talk, you talk according to your own accord which is lies that is your trade mark. Like i said, you better leave the ijaws in River's state out of your whatever cause we share nothing with igbos.

The very beautiful thing about the ijaw/ijoid speaking tribes is that they are united more than any other Ethnic group in Nigeria.
I recall Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's open statement during the boundary tussle between one of the Calabari sub-clans and Nembe. It was rumoured President Jonathan favoured one over the other, but he came out to make an open statement not to Nigeria but to his ETHNICITY making clear their oneness. He said he wouldn't want any of his ijo brethren to pitch him against another ijo brethren.
From the east to the west and even a little towards the hinterlands, the Ijaw people are one and not divided.

So wether you nairaland miscreants come online to say trash, it's left for you because your trash is just like a termite trying to disintegrate an igneous rock.
Our culture is rich and beautiful, our history is one full of pride and accomplishments.

YENAGOA – The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to join it as a defendant in the suit filed by four Northern elders seeking the exit of the South-East from Nigeria.

The joinder application was filed on behalf of the INC and its incorporated trustees by two legal practitioners, Dickson Sofiyegha and Temedie Peter-Great.

The four plaintiffs, Nastura Ashir Shariff, Balarabe Rufa’i, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman and Aminu Adam, in the originating suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/538/2021, are urging the court to grant their prayers to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate incidents of the Civil War.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly are listed as defendants in the matter.

The court presided over by Justice Ekwo Ekwo, on Thursday, adjourned to March 4, 2022, when the joinder application of the apex Ijaw socio-cultural organisation would be heard.

Among those present in court were the national president of the INC, Prof Benjamin Okaba, the national legal adviser, Bomo Tom-Fetepigi, national secretary, Ebipamowei Wodu, chairman of the INC, Abuja chapter, Ebizimo Okolo and other prominent Ijaw sons and daughters.

In October 2021, some Igbo lawyers had filed their application for joinder to enable them to state the true position of the people of the region whom they contended had yet to be represented in the suit.

Okaba, in a statement after filing the joinder, said that the legal action was in line with the resolutions taken by Ijaw people at the All Ijaw Summit held on December 4, 2021, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to decisively pursue and defend their right to self-determination through peaceful, lawful and non-violent means.

He said, “Any union or business partnership that perpetually fails to breed or guarantee mutual benefits must be restructured or discontinued to avoid liquidation. When the possibility of healing a cancerous limb is non-existent, the only therapy is amputation to save a life.”

On claims by some Biafra Republic promoters that Ijaw territory belong to them, Okaba reiterated that the Ijaw nation was never conquered even during the pre-colonial and colonial eras.

He said, “If the Ijaw nation must exit, the process shall be peaceful and would come only under the auspices of the Ijaw Republic. All secessionists are advised to take note of this.”

The INC, in an affidavit in support of the motion on notice deposed to by its national secretary, Ebipamowei Wodu, said it was aware that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had in its quest for secession included Ijaw-speaking areas in their geographical map for the Biafra Republic.

The 24-point affidavit read in part: “That I also know as a fact that the Map of Biafra has listed 25 provinces of Biafra which includes Ijaw speaking cultural groups / ethnic nationalities in Bayelsa, Delta, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and the Rivers States of Nigeria.

“That I know as a fact that at no point in time, both in the historical past and at present, has the Ijaw ethnic nationality ever agreed or resolved to be part of the Biafra Republic. The Ijaw National Congress hereby unequivocally reiterates that no Ijaw tribe or territory is part of or will ever be part of the Republic of Biafra.

“That I know as a fact that, in view of the foregoing facts, the reliefs sought in this originating summons will likely affect the rights of Applicant and indeed the larger interest of the Ijaw ethnic nationality who the Applicant represents in a manner that will be irreparable.

“That it is necessary to join the Applicant to this suit, to afford them the opportunity of asserting their right to self-determination from Nigeria, which is similar to the right being sought to be enforced in favour of the South Eastern States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to enable them to clarify/settle the controversy of the geographical territory of the Ijaw nation as against that of the Indigenous People of Biafra to avoid more disputes between the people of the Ijaw nation and the people of Biafra which is likely to arise should the Honourable Court grant the instant application based on the current status quo.

“That the Applicant is a necessary party as the instant suit cannot be fairly decided in its absence. Thus, the presence of the Applicant is necessary for the effectual and complete determination of a core issue before the Honourable Court; being the self-determination of the people of Biafra, at the core of which right is the issue of geographical territory over which the people of Biafra are entitled to have their self-determination.

“That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to this suit, in view of the similarity of the interest of the people of Biafra and the people of the Ijaw nation in gaining self-determination from Nigeria; and to enable this Court to settle this burning question of self-determination once and for all to avoid multiplicity of suits on the same subject matter of self-determination of ethnic nationalities from Nigeria.

“That it is also necessary to join the Applicant to this suit to enable this Honourable Court to settle the question of the geographical territory of Biafra and the Ijaw Nation once and for all to avoid or forestall a possible future litigation on the subject matter.”

The INC further contended that the refusal of the instant application would affect its fundamental right to a fair hearing, stressing that it was in the interest of justice to grant the application as neither of the parties was likely to be prejudiced by the grant of the application.

A group of people must have delineated boundaries before talking about self-determination. At least, the goons among Ijaw stated the Southeastern States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Can a statement in the bold applicable to Ijaw? Even if the case was about Republic of Igboland, it has a contiguous stretch from lower Benue to the Atlantic Ocean. Simply put, Ijaw does not have bit of a factor to become a country.

There was bight of Biafra ,before Nigeria
Before ,the Fulani seperated, Ndigbo from there sister communities, by the invaders ,from Futadjalon for there own ,economic interest, they have built a refinery in Kaduna, none in Igboland;they are planning to build another in Maradi, none in Igboland; Ndigbo believe in "Onye ahala nwaneya policy" Let us brake away from the Futadjalon enemies first, then we all can decide whatever we want; The gulf of Biafra have the richest deposit of mineral resources, not only crude oil -If you think that Ndigbo want yall ,because of your crude oil ,or water ways;Ndigbo have water ways (River Niger ,easily dredged to the sea;Imo and Abia have crude oil),and Igboland land have multiple mineral resources that are not crude oil.
Firstly, let us properly define Igbo land. It covers the entire Southeast “zone” as well as parts of Rivers(Ikwerre, Ekpeye, Ogba and Etche) ; Delta (Anioma); Akwa-Ibom(Ohaobu-Ndoki village), Benue( Ezza, Izzi, Ezzamgbo and perhaps Ulayi); Edo(Anioma related groups); Cross River (Isobo and Izii groups of Obubra) and Bayelsa( Osekwenike-Onyah axis). There are indigenous Igbo people in 11 states of Nigeria. I was tempted toB write this because since the agitation of Biafra went on overdrive, those opposed to the idea often remind the agitators that Igbo land does not have resources and will be unviable. Firstly, the idea of Biafra is not an Igbo one but somehow, the peculiar nature of Nigeria tends to project it in that direction. And secondly, even if we assume that Biafra is only Igbo land (which it was not), there are rich mineral resources within its boundaries which will put any assumption of an unviable Igbo state as unfounded. The issue is that we have failed even as Igbos to exploit these resources to propel the economic development of Igbo land and keep and grow capital in the area. The growing profile of INNOSON comes to mind. Some of the raw materials which are used by the automobile industry are found in abundance in Igbo land or other parts of the old Eastern region. But I am pretty sure that the company “imports” its raw materials from other parts of Nigeria or even beyond the shores of the country. Developing these resources will create employment, and foster economic growth and development of Igbo land. Igbo land occupies an area of approximately 42,000 km2 of area or about 4.5 per cent of the total land area of Nigeria (about 930,000 km2). I am not an expert on geology but this write-up is to reassure ourselves that the territory occupied by Igbos is not as “dry” as claimed by some people. The bulk of the mineral resources of Igbo land is concentrated in the geological area called the “Lower Benue Trough” which extends to parts of Cross River and Akwa-Ibom States. This geological zone is one of the most mineral-rich in Nigeria.
