I really don't know how they are charging some people, I have all the basic electrical appliances in my house including rice cooker.

I hardly finish 1500 naira token on my prepaid meter.

My brother told me that Ikeja electric distribution gave 20 unit for 1k and I still get 35 unit on every 1k recharge.

My question is why is some paying higher than others ?

NB the prepaid meter was done by NEPA official and I never bypass anything and I will never do so.

There are different kinds of traffic for different locations.

Wow. Where do you live that you pay 1k for 35 units?

I live in Abakaliki and 1k gives me 16.2 units. And this finishes within 3 or 4 says.

Re: How Do You Manage Energy Consumption At Home? by femiolorun(m): 11:26am On Mar 13, 2022
Start planning to go on solar system. Some area consumption is much, while some area they give them bill that is not more than 3 k if on post pay

sasview:
I am just curious with the disco tariff on energy consumption, if one is not careful the cost of buying energy will be competing with rent. I have seen apartments that share prepaid meter and all parties involved agreed to only use energy /light during the night or weekend, so they disconnect from disco during day.
I was like there could be a better way to manage energy consumption. If you have an alternative way pls. share and let's benefit from it.

I live in Nigeria but I am not controlled by Nigerian system.
My 4bedroom duplex is completely on solar, off national grid.
Being having 24hours uninterrupted power supply for 3years now
I don't have time for Nigerian nonsense

All the bulbs in the whole apartment IS LED energy rechargeable bulbs. When fully charged, I switch off from powerbox unless we need to put on the fridge, charge phones or watch TV (we seldom watch TV anyways) in the house.

During the weekend, bypass straight up!

Though I don't encourage people to do this...

Bypassing the prepaid meter is illegal but that's what we use at home. Only energy bulbs during the day then heavy appliances at night.
This saves a lot of money because we recharge when we wish to.
Just like chop 10k pay 1k.

This won't be possible if you have a jealous neighbor cuz they will surely report u.
Any you want steady power in Nigeria....smh. Ppl will not hesitate to buy fuel 3000 and use in 2 days but will complain when they use Electricity bill 2k for 2 weeks.... The problem of this country is the citizens.

Considering this option, I only need a testament that it is viable and reliable alternative, currently I spend average of 40k per month on prepaid with all caution to limit consumption and mostly not at home during the day.

There is no longer a subsidy on power it now sells @56.4 Per KWh is not funny for those who use most of this recent meter bear in mind that the weather is very hot. I have bought light of 26k this March, I am just praying this will last till the end of the month.
The only up side is that we have light up to 20hrs a day.
But since price of electricity keeps going up, I am more and more pushed to think of bypassing because I am looking at an average of 40k per month on electricity.
Another option is solar but I think that will be best if I do it in my own house not rented

35 units for 1k. Omo.

1k is only 15 units here o. Understandable because we are on the highest tariff. With electricity for over 18 hours a day, you can guess how much I spend monthly. undecided

Do you know that when you apply for a new prepaid meter for a house, and the house is owing, the Disco gives you two options:
1. Clear up the debt immediately
2. Incorporate the debt into the prepaid meter.

Most landlords go for the second option.

So most people using prepaid meter don't really know that they are servicing a debt each time they buy Electricity token.

What? If you do 40*12=480k that should get you 2.5kva with at least 2 batteries plus energy saving bulbs.
