raumdeuter:Maybe it’s just my opinion but Buhari doesn’t seem to be tough on crime in the north, I remember when Boko Haram were being bombarded… the tool and his cohorts were saying they are killing their people. Havertz10:Being in complete control of your emotions. Not allowing yourself to be manipulated by others (lover, family, environment) to go against your own instincts or decisions. Of course there are exceptions. If someone is threatening your life that's a different argument that I'm not sure I need to explain |

Ibime: Lagos bubble is insulating many people from the reality of the situation. I've never been to the North. I've never even been to Abuja. All those places wey bandit dey terrorise are simply names I learnt in primary school as State and Capital. Kaduna might as well be a foreign country to me and millions of other born and bred lagosians. That's why even at the peak of Boko Haram and the Niger Delta crisis, nobody really feel am for Lagos. The whole country is burning and Lagos real estate market is booming, with some properties now selling for millions of dollars. At the same time that Boko Haram was plating flags and claiming entire LGAs, investors were pumping 100s of millions of dollars into building Pearl Towers in Eko Atlantic. Lagos na the last bubble, once e bubble burst like this, Omo.... there's no going back. 4 Likes 1 Share |

GloriousGbola: Last time I was in Lagos, I noticed this in our area. One particular corner of the hood is completely overrun by these guys. On Fridays when they pray, they takeover the entire road, literally spreading Thier mats on the road. You have to park and wait for them to finish and clear up before you waka pass. They've always been in the area, but never to this extent. During the Kaduna riots of early 2000s, they attacked some streets close to our house in solidarity, and then aradugbo combined with OPC had to take action and repel them I fear that if a similar situation were to occur in 2022, it would be a completely different story, and not just because of sheer numbers. OPC Is gone, and the community feel and organisation is also a thing of the past. Make everybody sha dey hold their side. 3 Likes |

GloriousGbola: Tinubu can't be president. Tinubu is viewed in the South South and South East even worse than the South West views/viewed Atiku - brazenly corrupt, nepotistic, greedy and covetous. An Osinbajo presidency would sell in the SS and SE for many reasons, including him seen as a unifying factor. Even the APC groups in the SS and SE are scared of trying to float a Tinubu presidency for fear of lynching. I could go on to give you reasons why Tinubu is HATED in both regions, and explicit reasons why he is hated in both Rivers and Akwa Ibom States. In details with references. If the Yorubas want presidency and support from the SS and SE, Osinbajo is their best shot. |

obainojazz: My thoughts is this. Insecurity and security just goes beyond rolling tanks and soldiers on the street. Na something dey make most rational people take to crime. Its a combination of many things which include Desertification, Economic structure, Poverty, Religious ideology, Political ideology, overpopulation. Some of them are intertwined and just sending 1m soldiers there or tanks wont stop a man who is desperate. Despite all the bombardment of the military, did they stop MEND and ND boys, did they stop Bandit or BokoHaram? Did they stop ESN? If you dont resolve the underlying factor you will kill everyone and nothing ill change 2 Likes 1 Share |

nihilistjnr: I was once like u till NYSC throw me go North go serve, it was then I saw the reality and knew a time like this will come one day. I served in the northwest when the region was peaceful but Boko Haram was controlling Local governments in the Northeast. The Unity school I served, Federal government had to bring students who had been displaced in the Northeast down to all unity schools in the northwest. Most of these kids have lost one or both parents, they've had their villages sacked. Omo! those boys have seen war, even their fellow students fear them cos their experience has toughened them and they even look at teachers in the eyeball without flinching. Tho the northwest was peaceful then, but I knew the peace won't last for too long considering the large number of kids who are out of school on the street doing almajiri with no skills at all. Imagine boys between the ages of 8 to 16 who have never been to school lurking around a canteen patiently waiting for u to finish ur food and they swoop on ur plate right in ur presence licking the plate with their tongues. On sundays they go about from one alhaji house to the order eating "sara" served them in large trays and they get few mint N10 naira notes to accompanying. I knew these boys would grow and be useless to the society with no skill or education. I know they will still worry those Alahaji's and their kids they are sending to unity schools and private schools. What I didn't know was that such time will come so fast and they will come for almost all of us like they are doing now. 1 Like |

DissTroy: I am sorry but the last two elections made it clear, all you need is the north and sw. Numbers in the SS and SE are symbolic but ultimately don't count. Tinubu has the SW locked down. He is actively toasting and building alliances up north. This is why even if anyone in lagos wanted to sort out the okada menace, they will not because that will be political ammunition for the opposition. Nothing will be done about okada until after the election Peter obi rat bleeped fashola on this when beggars were deported from Lagos to Anambra. Tinubu has seen this and will do nothing about the okada menace I am no longer a fan of tinubu, but the truth is unless he kicks the bucket like abacha, he is inevitable. nihilistjnr: Na Naija mentality be that. E no consign me if no be my area. If someone try hit Isle of Man, Dundee or Arbroath in UK, you'll see how the whole country will rise up and say we must defeat those people. An injury to one is an injury to all. Once any country write off any inch of its territory, that means the same can happen anywhere. The problem is our Govt is constantly trying to hide the scale of insecurity, and media don't even carry one-tenth of what's going on in the country to energise the Citizens to demand action. |

nihilistjnr: When they experience insecurity and poverty in their own hometown they flee to where its relatively safe and can get opportunity Lagos will inevitably suffer for the ruins in other part of the country This desperation is spreading to other parts of the country. When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s all the industry that employed people have almost folded up for different reasons. The population is increasing. The guys that were doing farming, artisans, factory work in the 90s they are now betting shop owners and Okada riders - thats for those that are honest, The ones that dont have the moral strain in them straight up go to crime I have heard of a couple of guys in my area who we knew growing up as mechanics and somehow troublesome, few years back I heard they have stopped mechanic work and are into full armed robbery The educated ones have gone into yahoo, the ones not so lucky to hammer have gone into rituals I was talking to a friend and we were discussing our time in OAU and he told me that all that route to Osun Ondo Ekiti is swarming with kidnappers now We are all abandoning the rot and decay in the hinterland to "hide" in Lagos. When there is no one of note to kidnap and rob in those hinterland what do we think will happen next At this time I dont even know if there is any politician that can resolve this. Whether its Atiku Osinbajo Tinubu or Barack Obama somethings just don turn sideways for this Naija 1 Like |

BlueRayDick: To be honest, the only hope left is if the southern leaders come to their senses and realise the answer is to split the country. Obviously the lines of division will be contentious and may lead to war, but it's clear Nigeria is too big and too unwieldy to function in any remotely coherent manner. Lugard's policies and actions have had horrific consequences for the country, and that amalgamation should never have happened. The north will never agree to go their own way, so a united secession front, as unlikely as it sounds, is probably the last chance Nigeria has. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Ibime: The media is muzzled under this admin. They cannot even call terrorists terrorists. They have to call them bandits. And too many people have their own goddam agenda. The same north being overrun by boko haram is chasing penal sharia. They are celebrating it. So what is the difference between them and bh other than method? Same thing in the east. I don't understand where they stand. They can see everything going on in the North, yet they celebrate ESN. Maybe the country should split 1 Like |

Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Ibime(m): 5:27pm On Mar 29, 2022 |
GloriousGbola: That's not necessarily incorrect. The bandits have no political ideology, they are pure profiteers. The nature of the insecurity in North East is different from North West. North West banditry is more disorganised and blended in to society, which is an even worse enemy to fight than a known enemy with known encampments who take territories you can fight over. |

GloriousGbola: Terrorists normally have an agenda or ideology. BokoHaram dont want Western education. ESN want their own country. What do bandits want? They are just like every criminal who needs money and turned on their neighbors to get it. If bandits were educated maybe they would be doing yahoo. But they dont have what it takes to scam so they do it the traditional way |

raumdeuter: In a way, i feel that Yahoo was a blessing to Lagos State in particular. Many niggas my age and older will remember how rampant armed-robbery was in the early 90s, to the point where robbers dey write letter to the whole street booking appointment like say na teams meeting. I remember those days going to school sometimes and fighting with other kids in the area to pack shell casings to play with. Yes Operation Sweep came and changed some things, but the cyber cafe era brought Yahoo, The first crime to offer big money with minimal risk. That Yahoo money has funded and propped up a lot of the entertainment and real estate sectors in Lagos, which has allowed the state to host the IDPs coming from other states as you mentioned. I suspect that all the aspiring criminals that would have first carried gun in 90s Lagos are enrolling in HK to learn format instead, and I think that's one reason why the crime rate in Lagos as bad as it is, is probably still not commensurate the the high levels of extreme poverty and unemployment that exists in that state. What happend when clients stop paying? I'm sure the Yahoo industry must close be hitting a saturation point by now. Omo na God dey save person sha 3 Likes |

Ibime: I see the banditry as the inevitable fall out of BH. Once some poor almajiri wretches have enjoyed money, power, their own harem of captured women and have been completely desensitised to violence and murder, they can transition easily from murder for ideology to murder for money to just murder for its own sake. And there is a giant pool of recruits. This is like a gold rush for them.Virtually Risk free. Since governments seem more concerned about negotiation and amnesty and deals 4 Likes 3 Shares |

raumdeuter:honestly I don't like thinking about Nigerian issues, it's depressing, that's why I prefer to use geopolitical alignment to hack it, if world order changes, maybe Africa can renegotiate a better life for it's people Social mobility is the only solution, people need purpose, youths of the past particularly in the north were ok hawking and doing petty trades, times have changed and they want better quality of life for themselves Unlike southerners that prefer to mock the government online and in gatherings, these ones prefer chaos, human capital investment is the only way, and their reproduction rates needs to be regulated but that can never get legislative approval As for igbos, I understand their plight, it's clear to all that they are being played, funny how in years leading to an election, there is chatter about giving igbo a chance to rule, I hate zoning policies but I can understand their sentiments, they are being played in a grand way, federal government always finds a way to national disgrace any igbo man with presidential political ambitions and the resources to make them formidable Their Lockdown actions are counterproductive, they wouldn't accomplish much, it's not like they dominate an industry that will cause federal inconveniences when they lockdown their cities in the name of biafra Shut down south south and federal government will come to the table to talk, if they want to achieve biafra they have to get united and plan, we talked about building believe in a local party and growing industrial influence internationally, that's the only route that wouldn't cost lives, right now they are just wasting their time and impeding growth with all these nonsense and violence 2 Likes |

GloriousGbola: Really? I don't think you've ever been involved in elections at such levels. Here's the number of registered voters per region as at 2019 released by INEC: NC:13.36 million NE:11.29 million NW: 20.1 million SW: 16.29 million SS: 12.8 million SE:10.06 million SE and SS: Combined is 22.86 million voters to SW's 16.29 million voters. https://www.pulse.ng/news/politics/this-is-state-by-state-breakdown-of-total-registered-voters-across-nigeria/4nr0720 SW has never voted one Presidential candidate since the 4th Republic. Never. Even when Obasanjo (a Southwesterner) was on the ballot. (Do confirm this.) SW vote is split. Tinubu has more opposition to his candidacy within the Southwest to begin with. The best shot the Southwest has of selling its candidate to secure the votes of the SE and SS is Osinbajo (and, to a lesser degree if he contests, Fayemi). The hatred for Tinubu is seething in the SS and SE, especially due to his utterances (and those of his loyalists) to both regions post-2015. Amaechi would rather die than see a Tinubu presidency. Akpabio would rather be decapitated than see Tinubu be the GCFR. And these are just a few APC heavyweights in both regions. The Southern candidates in both the APC and PDP would pick northern VPs so Northern votes would be split. Tinubu has consulted everywhere but he is avoiding consultations in the SS and SE. Ask yourself why? Osinbajo would easily fill stadiums in both, particularly in the SS. He's seen as the lesser evil, particularly from the APC corner.
There's a third force - a consortium of some sort. Their most recent meeting was on the 8th of March (this month). The problem is, the money bags of the third force are deeply entrenched in the system and are holding out their cards for opportunities, while the actual drivers who are also technocrats (though very influential) are not very big money bags to fund elections of these magnitude. Pat Utomi, Femi Falana et al are a part of that third force. A very small part. Formed in 2020. |

Havertz10: The biggest mistake the Igbos made post the civil-war was actually assimilating back into Nigeria especially Lagos, instead of staying put and continuing to develop their region in that spirit of Biafra, if not in the name. Now the financial elite are all tied to Lagos. The political elite are tied to Abuja. Even if there's grassroot support for the movement, the people who can actually fund the Biafra cause and effect this change have no incentive to do so. Afterall, even Ikemba that led Biafra to civil war came back to contest presidency of One Nigeria. Hindsight is a bastard, but my God just look how many opportunities were squandered... 4 Likes |
