The best thread I've come across in Niaraland for months now.

OP please do you have any material for child psychology that you can recommend?

Every one is just following his/her own template in raising children, reason we have uneven individuals within a society

God bless you OP

It’s so bad that an average adolescent spent a considerable hours of their day burying their heads in their phones doing what neither benefit nor profit them.

It's a multilayer level of decay that snowballed into what we are today as a people. I tell people, when you say corruption, it goes beyond stealing public fund.

This is a very enlightening piece. The education system in Nigeria needs to be restructured. Many gifted kids are languishing in the harrows of the poorly built system. A lot of curriculum taught to kids need to be scrapped off. I am against the idea of sending kids below four to school, children need to grow mentally before being shuffled off to school.

Also many secondary schools especially private ones encourage lazy students, they fail to build the students but rather they just help them scale through seamlessly and this comes to bite back when some start struggling with gaining admission into tertiary institutions. Some eventually go to private universities which is easier to get in, they continue with the secondary school mentality and end up graduating without breaking a sweat.

Public universities have their own faults too. I can testify to this, in my faculty the lecturers will teach you and expect you to churn out what they taught you word for word. They don't allow students to be creative, they don't allow them grow, they act like dictators. Also you can't challenge the system, if you want to voice out your opinion on something they will reprimand you and sometimes even punish you. During the covid 19 pandemic when we were doing virtual lectures these lecturers will skip classes, a lot of them will claim network issues and they won't even bother to hide their nonchalancy. They leave you to yourself and you have to figure out how to study the entire course outline yourself. They frustrate you and you can't even complain! These generation of lecturers were taught when Nigeria was still relatively better but we the gen x or rather gen z have to bear the brunt.

I know that this generation has its own fault, some might say we are too engrossed with our phones, we are unserious and "lazy" but I just want to say that all generations have their own issues. The general decay we see today in the education sector didn't just start with us, it was laid down by the previous generations and you cannot just expect this present generation to thrive in it.

Well since the fruit of education is not profitable and the youth are just there idol, so they will start generating a mind set that, when you stay alone a lot of ideal start, coming up, and that would lead to doing evil because you are looking for a quick wealth, and for that to happen you have to fraud someone.. and that is the era we are going right now.. and which is bad..

Even the analysis on nairaland alone confirmed it.

Wen threads hit front page most especially "family and politics sections", larger percentage of those who normally comment, hardly would you read critical responses that are of critical thinking and detailed analysis.

More reason they bombard romançe section to post jargons

If critical thinking is put to test in Nigerians, most Nigerians will know that the system control everything. The government, religion, education are the biggest scam in history.

The government and religion are the two biggest fraud in history, while people go to school to be brainwashed in order to be subservient to this system thereby making them a systematic robots...

Education is light though, but that should be self-education.

Why would I pay attention in class when I know that there would be no job after 4 to 5 years in school

How can you be consistent when a 4 year course metamorphosis into a six years course because of strike

Is not like we are dull it's just That there's no motivation even the small motivation wey person carry enter school has been killed by a wicked and very corrupt educational system

Hahahaha.

Grand mother will devolve the humans and make them more peaceful smiley smiley smiley smiley And then they can return to the sea, living a happy aquatic life.

Ignorance is bliss.

But i like the writeup, I agree, that time between 2 and 5 years in a child Life is important and it forms the introductory phase of the foundational development of the personality of that person.

This is why the almajiri system should be stopped, the northern children should be encouraged to go to schools.

At that Age the child needs the Emotional support of both parents, should not be left alone for long periods of time (absence of parents and engagement leads to more psychopathy).

I've had the same experience at both secondary and tertiary schools. Defining the experience as 'worrisomr' is the mildest way to put it.

I made a decision years ago, to be a part of my children's educational development. I created a time in my daily schedule, to review their academic activities by asking them as many questions as I could.

I also made conscious efforts to teach and get them internalize the fact that life is about solving problems. Creative thinking and development of problem solving skills have formed the basis of our daily learning in flexible fora created anywhere; on the road and at home

Kuriosmynd:
@ Writer it will be better you put the blame on government because government construct policy and implementation of our curriculum.
.
2. You blamed parents they force teacher to speed up cognitive development at a time between 2-5yrs when kids should learn through play, songs and curious questionings:

Again blame your government; because if a child doesnt get admission on time or graduates on time, remember years of ASUU strike, remember first four to five years is usually wasted by most graduate to find jobs cos there are no provision for jobs. So parents have to play the game of the system. And remember most recruiter won't recruit once u pass certain age..the bias is there. Parents have no choice.
.
Now u dwell so much on childhood development being paramount to forming or building critical thinking in a child till adulthood; Well, I will also say apart from that fact, our children spend six years in secondary schl which is also a very important stage in building confidence, public speaking and critical thinking; Now tell me, how do most nigerian secondary school fare in building self esteem of a secondary schl kids, in allowing them have a mind of their own, in stimulating their deep thinking skills? Zero!
Most secondary schl teachers are brute and unmotivated to teach let alone giving room for independent thinking or inspiring critical thinking skills in kids.
Then university years student are not allowed to talk, ask questions or protest in schl, how do u want them to have critical thinking and self esteem when u damage them with ur demonic university system?
.
I feel u can't blame those kids, much less their parents.
BLAME YOUR GOVT THAT HAS NO PLAN OR PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION THAT WILL BENEFIT THE KIDS IN THE 21ST CENTURY, OTHRR THAN GABAGE IN GABAGE OUT.
.
THANK YOU. THE VISION OF IDEAL EDUCATION AND MINDSET U ENVISAGE CAN ONLY BE ACTUALISED BY A THINKING VISIONARY LEADERS. BUT UR LEADERS ARE ONLY OUT TO DESTROY THOSE KIDS

Either you didn't thoroughly read this post, or you failed to digest it.
