Hello people, i recently came across an advert shared by GOD is Good motors about a Stellas Digital Bank offering 15% per annum on savings....
I thought it wise to come Nairalanders to seek advise from the gurus.
Please has anyone used them for investments??

whatever you do, avoid standard chartered bank and their dollar mutual fund. You will never see your money again. it will fall beyond zero

Hmmm

Apparently capital is not preserved in dollar fund, but can it be this bad?

Send a mail to info@gtfundmanagers.com to access your account or call their CC (014481201 or 014481202). They're currently working on their platform but no idea of when it will go live. The best you can get is a statement of account.

Yeah I called and that's the response I got. Thanks for the link.

But Personally I thought it would make more sense to retain previous platform (easyinvest) until they had finished thier new one.

Your portfolio is not empty. It was only just moved. If you desire to know/see your account details, all you have to do is to mail the GT Fund Manager email add up there and it will be forwarded to you. Pending when they arrange their own app.

Hello House,

Was wondering if anyone has been able to use their AXA money market fund account as POF for tourist visa application or Express Entry POF. I’m considering moving some funds from a traditional savings account to the AXA MMF because of the higher interests. Was wondering if it’s accepted as a valid POF document for the two needs stated above.

I’m particular about AXA as I already use them but want to go all in. Thanks.

I just check my Stanbic IBTC Equity Fund (after a long time of not checking) only to find out that there have been losses. I checked just now and noticed more loss.

Would you advise I pull out my money or just watch it for some time?

That's an equity fund. The stock market is tanking right now. I think this is a bad time to pull out because you will concretise the loses.

Good evening Oga Ernie4life and EmmaSoft. I will be very grateful if one of you or other gurus in the house can kindly advise about Stanbic IBTC Dollar fund account. Is the Dollar fund just similar to "shares" where the accured profit made over time, is by way of appreciation in the unit price or should someone expects interest payments like in the usual naira dominated money market mutual funds account? Many thanks.

Please note that dollar fund invest principally in Eurobond hence it's price based that means there is offer and bid prices ie your fund is not guaranteed value can be up or down.

Interest doesn't accrue rather dividend is paid annually base on fund performance and to some extent dollar funds behave like shares there can be price appreciation or depreciation depending on what eurobonds is doing.

Dollar fund is advisable if you have a long term in view otherwise on a short term you may lose money if you can't wait when price is down.

A major positive side of dollar fund is hedging against inflation/devaluation.

The above explanation is for dollar funds generally not just particular to IBTC dollar fund.

Like Emmasoft said, it's invested in eurobonds, the coupons(interest) of eurobonds are paid twice a year, that is why most dollar funds pay dividend twice a year.

If the dollar fund is valued based on "mark to market" then you stand a chance of loss encroaching into your capital and also the chance of earning high returns, but if its valued as "hold till maturity" then your capital is safe.
This applies to all dollar funds.

I advise you confirm from the fund manager which method they use.

Many thanks to both Ernie4life and EmmaSoft for your explanations. It makes perfect sense why certain number of units were issued following each subscription. My dilemma is that there has been no coupon paid since initial subscription in December 2019. The unit price now (both bid and offer price) is now 1.33 as opposed to an average of 1.165 on subscription. Will I be correct if I assume the addition of the twice yearly coupon to the fund accounted for the current unit price of 1.33, or should the twice yearly coupon ought to have been paid as well to the account and should have reflected in the account balance? Attached is the Statement for your kind perusal. Many thanks for your usual support. Very much appreciated.

It's hard to say, usually when your interest is reinvested, it would reflect as additional subscription on your statement.

You need to first find out from the fund manager if any coupon has been paid since December 2019.

Yes but only the detailed statement works, it works better than your traditional bank account.
