When you're speaking in tongues, you begin to suddenly speak in another new language which could mean God want the message to be hidden from others around such as, the the tower of Babel or God want you to speak to someone who doesn't hear your original Language except the sudden new tongue you're speaking which was what happened at the Pentecost.

I think everyone is right, depending on how u choose to approach the topic.
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe he was simply trying to say that according to biblical records,diverse languages originated from the incident during the construction of the tower of Babel & which no other account predated.

The only issue here in my opinion is that we will be second guessing him since he cannot clearly communicate his thoughts and ideas across to his audience. Such deficiency makes him appear mentally unfit for the exalted position he seems to occupy.
